Politics / Re: Buhari Set To Cancel Strategic Chinese Direct Investments In Place Of IMF Loans. by Kainene77: 9:56pm On Apr 17, 2016
OreMI22:

That is exactly why the western powers wanted Buhari. He really can't see through the economic slavery designed by the west for Africans.

The economic partnership with China has really given the west, IMF and world bank a lot of sleepless nights.

The next move is to sign the economic partnership agreement(EPA) with Europe and completely kill manufacturing in Nigeria.

Well, we shouldn't blame Buhari but ourselves for what befalls Nigeria.

Why would it give them sleepless nights?

Do you people really think that they have no problems of their own and actually worry about a country that is run down and about to face a humanitarian crisis if sensible measures are not employed?

Do you people really think that the Chinese will join you in your bitterness towards the West when China is sensible enough to maintain good international relations around the globe? Do you really think that the Chinese are as myopic and simple-minded?

Do you still feel like the giant of Africa even though the Naira has been depreciated and will soon be devalued (there are hardly reserves to defend it) and even though poverty is on the rise? Do you really think that you are more important to China than the USA and the EU altogether with member states who are currently leading economies and global players par excellence?

BY THE WAY, the IMF has got 188 member states - China is a member too - so who exactly is having sleepless nights - the 188 member states including China?

What kind of a NONSENSE thread is this?. It is not a criticism, it is not in support. It just annoys. IMF loans and Chinese strategic investments exist for different things. IMF loans are to support currency or fiscal regime or to provide guarantees to countries who want to take commercial loans. Some Chinese loans come with equity investments , some are low interest loans targeted at supporting you when you buy Chinese products or you patronise a global technology they are expanding into like high speed rail.

Nigeria should have a portfolio of options and Buhari is exploring them all.

Thanks. Qualified contributions are a rarity on this forum.

You missed the point on what it means to have a true African mindset.

In that regard I'll like to know where you come from so I explain further.

You mean you have not explained it yet.

The true African mindset would be where the west have no influence whatsoever on an African mind. Like, Russians, Japanese, Chinese. True independence.

The West has had a lot of influence on Russia, Japan and China and continues to do so.
Russians have turned away from communism toward a capitalist system.
Japan is the co-founder of the IMF that you all so despise.
The Chinese elites want democratic reforms based on the models in the West.

Likewise, these countries have and continue to have an impact on the West.

It's called globalization, you can flow with it or fight it but you won't stop it.

And I still don't know what the "true African mindset" is. undecided

I'm working on that one. You'll hear about it pretty soon on this forum.

I can't wait.
Politics / Re: Tribe And Religion Aside -who Do You Know That Can Make A Better President by Kainene77: 8:45pm On Apr 17, 2016
Tribe and religion can only be put aside in the political decision making if the education system empowers people with the necessary skills needed to make decisions based on thorough research, knowledge, logic and profound understanding. Until then ........... forget such questions because without proper education people can only rely on their sentiments.

The root cause of corruption in Africa is that the model of brainwashing education left us by colonial powers doesn't allow the education of elites with true African mindset. So, the politicians loot and siphon off our monies to Switzerland, London, USA, all still to profit the west.

Explain to me what the "true African mindset" is.

How many times have you heard a traditional African ruler stole money?.

Serious question? undecided

There's a clear correlation. We deal with China and we don't have to depend on the west for any thing. We'll be free from IMF and world bank Trojan loan.

You mean, you want to depend on China instead on the West. I can't blame you. The scars of colonialism are still visible.

Yes, Africa can trade among itself and isolate the rest of the world once we've done an our homework.

What homework?

Problem is dealings with the west had never been to our advantage. And be informed, all third world countries and more would cut off from the west. It's a question of ''when'' not ''if''. Africa would trade among ourselves!.

They would have been to Nigeria's advantage if Nigeria's leaders hadn't looted the funds and loans they were given and if they had made the necessary structural reforms. Simple!

Africa will isolate itself from the rest of the world? grin
And you think that you will create a utopia when Nigerians are not even able to respect other tribes within their own borders?

Below is list of countries that had by-passed the world bank and IMF offers and made currency swap deals with China. South Africa is already there, Nigeria would join soon. The whole world is looking east not west!.

So what if they have swaps with China? Tell me something new.

This's a clear proof African governments are being held hostage by the IMF and the world bank.

I don't see any correlation between the swaps and the being held hostage. You don't make sense here at all.

No victim mentality over here at all, but fact mentality.

So, what we're saying is for all the reasons you mentioned above, we want to cut ties with the west. We want to try China.

Who is we? grin grin grin

By the way, the USA along with some other Western countries are your top export destinations. I wouldn't chop off the hands that feed me.
Luckily, you are not running the country.

And nobody said that you can't have bilateral relations with China if you have them with the West. It's a globalized world. Educate yourself some more.

Stop being naive! Trade and diplomatic relations between two states doesn't necessarily imply friendship.

A question for you wise one: does the U.S trade with China? I believe the answer to that is 'yes'. Yet China has no pretensions about the U.S as her number one enemy. Does that answer your question.

Where did you get that from? grin grin grin

And one more thing, when I used the term "the West" I was not referring to the U.S alone. I included all Western countries and their institutions of oppression (and neo-colonization) like the IMF, World Bank, NATO, etc.

You are aware of the fact that the IMF consists of 188 countries - Western and non-Western with China being an influential and active member, don't you? The Yuan has just been included into its reserves.

Really?.

Haven't the west been doing that since 1425 when the Portuguese first arrived?. Someone has claimed to be helping you for over 500 years and we're still poor?. And all we do is get poorer while they get richer?.

The Portugese promised you to become rich? grin
The colonialists who purchased slaves promised you to boost your economy? grin grin grin

For your information, they're rich because we're poor. And we're poor because they're rich. All we need is find our own ways of solving our problems and western economies would collapse naturally.

The reason NUMBER ONE in this day and age why Nigeria is poor is because their own people / leaders mismanaged the abundant natural and human resources.

Africa has given more help to western nations, and still do.

They help the West but they can't help themselves? What an irony!

Drop that victim mentality, it will empower you and your country.
Politics / Re: The Time To Be A Patriotic Nigerian Is Now! by Kainene77: 7:09pm On Apr 17, 2016
Do you think that the deal with Nigeria makes any difference on the world stage with the Naira having a lower value than it officially has? Please!

The IMF accepted the Yuan to its reserves long before Buhari travelled to China.

Exactly!.

This is what scares western powers more than anything. I wrote that in a previous thread.

Western nations does not want a situation where one good idea from one African country spread to other third world countries. Because, that's how colonialism ended. Freedom from colonialism began from Lord Kwame Nkrumah is Ghana, and immediately Ghana got her independence it spiraled into a domino effect, and within a couple of years every other African nation fought for her freedom.

Western nations are scared and literally fighting for their survival now, not Nigeria. They're scared because once Nigeria figure out how to solve our current economic impasse, it would become a model for other third world countries to by-pass the IMF and world bank's exploitation. This's the real reason they don't want us act outside of the IMF or world bank control, and it's the real reason the neo-colonialist Ms. Christine Lagarde is frequenting Nigeria.

Keep it up Africa!.

Western countries have a huge interest in prospering African economies for many reasons:

1. They would have more markets to sell their products.
2. They would have safe countries to invest in and thus profit.
3. They would have to worry less about illegal immigration.
4. They would have to worry less about war torn regions giving birth to terrorism.

And the list goes on.

Buhari Economic policy is very sound and Pragmatic

The truth is dat this Buhari govt actually had d most well defined economic policy in d last 10years. A good acronym to define and sumarise Buhari economic policy is DOTE ( Diversification Of The Economy)

Several African countries, Nigeria included were recommended to diversify their economies in the past by the "evil West" among others. Their leaders said they would do so when times were tough but stopped when times got better (oil price went up). This is nothing new. Let us hope the president will stick to the diversification when times get better this time around.

I had a discussion with my boss last week. He was asking me what has moving to America positively done for me. I did not hesitate. I told him that it was EXPOSURE. He did not understand. He said that he thought that i was a graduate before moving to America and because of that i was exposed. I told him that i used to think that way too until i moved there. There is a big big difference between education and exposure. Nigerians lack exposure which is why the mindset remains the same since independence. It is one thing to read about something, it is something else to experience how things really work. Nigerians have a long way to go.

Well, not everyone who travels benefits from exposure in such a way. I guess, it is your personality, education combined with exposure that made you reason the way you do now. So take some credit for this positive development of your mind and mindset. wink

Yes, Nigerians have a very long way to go.

Just because they want to criticise they start telling lies around, I know all they want is for them to see Nairn going down day by day, anything to reduced pressure on Naira would never be a good thing to them. This is the copy of UK doing the same

The Naiara is already down and has been depreciated by the harsh economic realities. The value is being held up artificially. Devaluation would only reflect its real value and as it is traded on the parallel market.

Nothing disgusts me more than the sudden negative press from the west coz Nigeria is trying to take her future in her hands.. They tell you africans and her leaders, despite having a great deal of resources in their possesion, lack insight, hardwork and determination to develop their countries but You will be surprised at the amount of work being put in by this same accusers to keep the african continent backward and underdeveloped..!!

Pathetic Neocolonialists!!

I understand your concern, but I'm tired of the shenanigans of the West! The fact that our government came up with this bold step has given me renewed hope, that someone somewhere is thinking outside the box. And get one thing very clear: the West has always been the enemy (albeit a veiled one), they even have their agents within our ranks! We've put up with their condescending postures and subtle threats for much too long, it's time we put our faith elsewhere.

We are not declaring war on the west, but we should be free enough to choose our allies.

Kindest regards.

Nigeria is free to choose its allies as much as they want. Who is stopping Nigeria from doing so?

And how is the USA your enemy when it is your top export destination?

That is not what they are telling you. They see what you all don't want to acknowledge. The mentality of Nigerians cannot make it work because of corruption. It does not matter what great policies you put in place, corruption will destroy it. Just because western economies do it and it works for them, does not mean it will work for Nigeria. For example. The western world has refineries. So does Nigeria. Do the ones in Nigeria function? Nigeria has roads. So does the western world. Are the roads in Nigeria pliable? The western world has power generating means. So does Nigeria. When last did you have 24hr uninterrupted power supply? Nigerians have good ideas but lack the knowledge, will, or virtue to make anything worthwhile work. Corruption is the bane of the country.

It was the same with the structural adjustment programs (SAP). They worked in some regions but mostly failed in Africa. Not because the USA or the IMF wanted to sabotage African countries but because Nigerian leaders didn't implement them like they were supposed to do. Then they told their people that the West deceived them and Nigerians actually believe it.

The only mistake that the IMF made with the SAPs was to trust that African leaders can be trusted to implement them in an efficient way.

I deliberately added the last part to see if you would get it and you don't. You said the west has spies in our ranks as if that is new. Germany has spies in the U.S and the U.S has in Germany. That does not stop them from being allies. My point is Nigerians act too naive in world politics. Every country is selfish and will not do anything unless it furthers it's self interest.

Exactly but because Nigerians are too lazy to do some thorough research in order to gain a profound understanding of world politics and economics they will repeat what everyone else is saying over and over again and that is "The West is evil. They don't want us to develop."

Now they look to the Chinese as their saviors and in a few years they will blame the Chinese for their shortcomings when the Chinese do what every sane government should do, pursue their own self-interest and do business as usual.

Nigerians are too naive because they are too lazy to study complex realities and would rather make simplistic statements that explain the world to them in black and white because this is easier to understand.

The blame the IMF and the Chinese are expanding their power of influence there.
They hate on America but America is the top export destination for their products.

I taya o.
