7 Ways Entrepreneurs Can Invest in Themselves

Most Entrepreneurs spend so little time thinking about boosting their personal skills and strengths, remaining focused on their work, they often don’t know where to start.

I have a few suggestions on how you can keep making investments in yourself, even if you’re an overwhelmed entrepreneur. Here are seven:

GO TO SCHOOL
Few things do more to enhance both your credibility and intellectual capacity than higher education. The learning environment itself can provide new connections and spark creativity. There are incubators offering specialized training now in every city.

Finishing your degree or starting a new one can make a big difference and just about every school has a part-time or returning student or executive program.

TEACH
A school environment is just as powerful if you’re teaching. And, like an advanced degree, being a teacher confers a great deal of credibility. Teaching also forces you to know what you’re teaching at expert level, confront and consider new ideas and explain things in new ways.
If you’re an expert in something, reach out to community learning programs or colleges in your area and get in the classroom.

ONLINE PROGRAM
While the online learning environment is still buyer beware, more and more very credible institutions and incubators are offering online courses and programs. It’s possible to earn certifications in a variety of business-related subjects from places such as Harvard or Stanford or any number of Universities.
Even if you’re just exercising your mind or staying up-to-date on current topics and trends, it’s a good investment.

READ UNRELATED THINGS
If you’re a reader, make sure your reading list includes topics that are unrelated to your business endeavors. Read crime thrillers or romance novels or theoretical physics – whatever will distract you from your hour-to-hour obsessions.
Giving your mind a break will inspire creative problem solving and invigorate your work when you return to it.
Just a few hours a week of reading about ants or Adam Ant can make a big difference.
If you read all business books or things in your field, you’d absolutely get sick of it. Taking a mental break allows you to really focus on business when you need to

PHYSICAL HEALTH
Among the biggest oversights entrepreneurs make is neglecting their physical health. If your ability to work is the most essential thing to your business success, it makes no sense to risk it. I know how hard it is, but get to the gym, make good health and diet choices. Take vacations. As with all these suggestions, staying healthy is an investment in your business – it may help to think of it that way

CO-WORKING
Consider moving yourself and your business to a co-working community. The collaborative, entrepreneurial spirit of shared ambition and sacrifice can be intoxicating and empowering. By co-locating, you’ll find mentors, partners and different-thinkers – all of whom can add to your personal growth and strategic creativity.

NETWORK
Join organizations and attend events. Most people view networking as opportunities to advance their businesses. But they are just as important in building personal connections – assets you can take with you from project to project or business to business. Investing in networking and getting to know your network personally will increase your personal reach and capacity.

CareerProductivity Tips:10 Tricks To Get Things Done Faster, Better, And More Easily by Kangol99(op): 9:59am On Apr 29, 2016
We all want to get stuff done, whether it’s the work we have to do so we can get on with what we want to do, or indeed, the projects we feel are our purpose in life. To that end, here’s a collection of 10 hacks, tips, tricks, and mnemonic devices I’ve collected that can help you work better.

1.Most Important Tasks (MITs): At the start of each day (or the night before) highlight the three or four most important things you have to do in the coming day.  Do them first.  If you get nothing else accomplished aside from your MITs, you’ve still had a pretty productive day.

2.Big Rocks: The big projects you’re working on at any given moment. Set aside time every day or week to move your big rocks forward.

3.Inbox Zero: Decide what to do with every email you get, the moment you read it.  If there’s something you need to do, either do it or add it to your todo list and delete or file the email.  If it’s something you need for reference, file it.  Empty your email inbox every day.

4. Wake up earlier: Add a productive hour to your day by getting up an hour earlier — before everyone else starts imposing on your time.

5.One In, One Out: Avoid clutter by adopting a replacement-only standard.  Every time you but something new, you throw out or donate something old.  For example, you buy a new shirt, you get rid of an old one. (Variation: One in, Two Out — useful when you begin to feel overwhelmed by your possessions.)

6.Brainstorming: The act of generating dozens of ideas without editing or censoring yourself.  Lots of people use mindmaps for this: stick the thing you want to think about in the middle (a problem you need to solve, a theme you want to write about, etc.) and start writing whatever you think of.  Build off of each of the sub-topics, and each of their sub-topics.  Don’t worry about whether the ideas are any good or not — you don’t have to follow through on them, just get them out of your head.  After a while, you’ll start surprising yourself with some really creative concepts.

7.Ubiquitous Capture: Always carry something to take notes with — a pen and paper, a PDA, a stack of index cards.  Capture every thought that comes into your mind, whether it’s an idea for a project you’d like to do, an appointment you need to make, something you need to pick up next time you’re at the store, whatever.  Review it regularly and transfer everything to where it belongs: a todo list, a filing system, a journal, etc.

8.Get more sleep: Sleep is essential to health, learning, and awareness.  Research shows the body goes through a complete sleep cycle in about 90 minutes, so napping for less than that doesn’t have the same effect that real sleep does (although it does make you feel better). Get 8 hours a night, at least. Learn to see sleep as a pleasure, not a necessary evil or a luxury.

9. 10+2*5: Work in short spurts of 10 minutes, interrupted by 2 minute breaks.  Use a timer. Do this 5 times an hour to stay on target without over-taxing your physical and mental resources. Spend those 2 minutes getting a drink, going to the bathroom, or staring out a window.

10. SMART goals: A rubric for creating and pursuing your goals, helping to avoid setting goals that are simply unattainable. Stands for: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.

Have you learn one or two tricks from this post? Then Rebroadcast/share with your friends.

PoliticsFulani Herdsmen Killings: Soyinka Slams Buhari by Kangol99(op): 7:52pm On Apr 28, 2016
Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, yesterday, slammed President Muhammadu Buhari, over what he described as his government's seeming inability to contain the violent activities of herdsmen across the country.
In his address to the National Conference on Culture and Tourism, Soyinka said the President Buhari-led government was yet to come up with an articulate solution to tackle the menace, reports Premium Times.

This came as Fulani herdsmen on Monday unleashed terror on Ukpabi Nimbo, a community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing dozens of people.

The attack came weeks after a similar wave of violence by herdsmen in Agatu in Benue State. Soyinka said: "I have yet to hear this government articulate a firm policy of non-tolerance for the serial massacres that have become the nation’s identification stamp."

"I have not heard an order given that any cattle herders caught with sophisticated firearms be instantly disarmed, arrested, placed on trial, and his cattle confiscated.

The nation is treated to an eighteen-month optimistic plan which, to make matters worse, smacks of abject appeasement and encouragement of violence on innocents.

"Let me repeat, and of course I only ask to be corrected if wrong: I have yet to encounter a terse, rigorous, soldierly and uncompromising language from this leadership, one that threatens a response to this unconscionable blood-letting that would make even Boko Haram repudiate its founding clerics.

"When I read a short while ago, the Presidential assurance to this nation that the current homicidal escalation between the cattle prowlers and farming communities would soon be over, I felt mortified. “He had the solution, he said.

Cattle ranches were being set up, and in another 18 months, rustlings, destruction of livelihood and killings from herdsmen would be ‘a thing of the past’. 18 months, he assured the nation. I believe his Minister of Agriculture echoed that later, but with a less dispiriting time schema.

"Neither, however, could be considered a message of solace and reassurance for the ordinary Nigerian farmer and the lengthening cast of victims, much less to an intending tourist to the Forest Retreat of Tinana in the Rivers, the Ikogosi Springs or the moslem architectural heritage of the ancient city of Kano.

In any case, the external tourists have less hazardous options.” Recalling with nostalgia how he – in the company of the late Segun Olusola – journeyed across Nigeria in the pre-war 60’s, mostly out of curiosity, Soyinka said: "But now, would the young adventurous set out to visit the mystery caves of Anambra and its alleged curative pools from mere interest? "They would think twice about it. It is not merely arbitrary violence that reigns across the nation but total, undisputed impunity.

Impunity evolves and becomes integrated in conduct when crime occurs and no legal, logical and moral response is offered.” Narrating his experience with cattle herders, right at his doorstep, recently, he said: "I returned from a trip outside the country about to find that my home ground had been invaded, and a brand-new ‘Appian way’ sliced through my sanctuary.

“That ‘motorable’ path was made by the hoofed invaders. Both the improvised entry and exit are now blocked, but interested journalists are invited to visit. "In over two decades of living in that ecological preserve, no such intrusion had ever occurred.

I have no idea whether they were Fulani or Futa Jalon herdsmen but, they were cattle herders, and they had cut a crude swathe through my private grounds.

"I made enquiries and sent alerts around, including through the Baale of our neighborhood village. There has been no repeat, and hopefully it will remain the first and last of such invasion. What it portends however is for all thinking citizens to reflect upon, and take concerted measures against.”

The Nobel laureate noted that herdsmen are among humanity’s earliest known tourists and must be taught a culture of settlement with their hosts. His words: The leadership of any society cannot stand idly and offer solutions that implicitly deem the massacres of innocents mere incidents on the way to that learning school.

"For every crime, there is a punishment, for every violation, there must be restitution. The nomads of the world cannot place themselves above the law of settled humanity.”

ONE THING THAT SEPARATES A BUSINESS THAT THRIVES AND A BUSINESS THAT DIES

The Big Truth is that

'SALES IS THE LIFEBLOOD OF EVERY BUSINESS'.

THERE'S ONLY ONE THING THAT SEPARATES A BUSINESS THAT THRIVES AND A BUSINESS THAT DIES...

Can you guess what it is?

It’s not social media.

(When someone files for bankruptcy, they aren’t claiming “I didn’t have enough Facebook fans” as their reason why).

It’s not connections.

(Sure, a connection may open a door for you, but that same door can also be slammed in your face).

It’s not tactical or technological nonsense.

(Tactics and technology that work today will not work tomorrow). And it’s definitely NOT “more cowbell.” Heh. So what is it?

It’s the ability to generate MORE sales.

Not just any sales, but profitable sales.

Because, as billionaire investor Mark Cuban said, “sales cure all.”

Here’s why: More sales means more money. And more money means, you can do what you love, help a tremendous amount of people, and make a comfortable living for yourself and your family.

The best part? You can CONTINUE DOING IT. Many people have this mistaken view of sales, and that making more sales is inherently selfish.
And I understand.
I used to feel that way too.

After all, more sales means you get to line your pockets.

But the truth is, more sales allows you to do what you love… and STAY doing it. And that’s the KEY.

If you’re in the business of helping people with coaching, consulting, or information products, the only way for you to STAY in business is by generating profitable sales.

Because those sales will give you the reward you need to stay motivated. It will also give you the revenue you need to invest in your business to ensure you’re helping the most people to the absolute best of your abilities.

The BIG question is: How can you start generating more sales TODAY?

Once you get the KEY to generating more sales. Take Action to Grab it and Keep to it for continuous and constant Sales.

Remember 'SALES IS THE LIFEBLOOD OF BUSINESS!'

Investment7 Streams Of Income Of Millionaires by Kangol99(op): 7:00pm On Apr 26, 2016
7 STREAMS OF INCOME OF MILLIONAIRES

but I have to warn you to read to the end where I reveal the single biggest secret to actually becoming a millionaire....

1. Earned Income - Money that you earn by doing something. For e.g. the money that you make in your job, the salary you get by working for someone else.

2. Profit - Money that you earn by selling something for more than it costs you to make. For e.g. Businesses selling their goods at a profit, whether at the retail or wholesale level, as distributors or manufacturers.

3. Interest - Money you get as a result of lending your money to someone else to use, e.g. putting it in the bank, lending it to the government in the form of buying Treasury Bills etc.

4. Dividend Income - Money that you get as a return on shares of a company you own. For e.g. the dividend that most companies announce at the year end. Typically you will have to own shares to get dividends.

5. Rental Income - Money that you get as a result of renting out an asset that you have. For e.g. This will be a house, or a building.

6. Capital Gains - Money that you get as a result of increase in value of an asset that you own. For e.g. when you buy shares at $10 and sell them at $11 - the $1 is capital gains, or if you buy your house for $200,000 and sell it for $220,000 the $20,000 is your capital gain.

7. Royalties - Money you get as a result of letting someone use your products, ideas, or processes. They make all the revenues, they do all the hard work and you get a small percentage of what ever they earn. For e.g. if you have a Subway Franchise - the royalty you send to Subway for using their processes, their logo, and marketing etc.

But the truth about how millionaires make their millions is a little different from what most of us imagine.

Most millionaire won't have all of these 7 income streams - in fact most of them wont even have 1 income stream. They will have a fraction of 1 of the income streams mentioned here. For e.g.

Warren Buffet is a Billionaire - but he doesn't make most of his money from all 7 of them. In fact he became a millionaire by using income stream 6 - Capital Gains.

But he didn't get in to capital gains on everything - but specialized on a very small thing, Capital Gains of companies in the stock market.

Then by constantly honing his skills in valuing companies and investing in them - he was able to become a millionaire, and then a billionaire.

So focus on what you can do right now from one of these income streams. Then become the best you can in a small niche in that income stream. The more you can do this the better you will become and the faster you will become a millionaire.

EducationMy Worst Experience Being Broke As A Student - #14 by Kangol99(op): 2:18pm On Apr 14, 2016
I can remember being so broke at a point in my life I never knew I would live to see the coming years.

It was a very rough time for me and not that I am okay presently as I desire but I never pray to ever be taken back to that time.

I had actually gone through a lot of brokenness, most especially as an undergraduate, but this one was on EasyBlaze, it was faster than me and I could not meet up with the basic things of life.

Being broke sometimes is actually part of being a student, but mine was different as sometimes I would have to eat Eba as breakfast and not with stew, but with beans I bought from the food vendor. To make it last, I would make the Eba so much so as to sustain me till the following day. Once the Eba was on ground, getting the beans wasn't much of an issue.

I could always get that on credit and promised the woman to pay the following day, but that would be the last time she would see me for that week.

I had seven vendors I worked with then, and I would always rotate my patronage from then on credit. When I buy from Iya Yodi on Monday, she would be of the opinion I had gone on Hajj as I would nowhere to be found for the rest of the week.

Same thing applies to Basic, Iya Rafia, Eat n Bellefool, Standard, Iya Sultan and Mama Agba.

They all knew me as a loyal, credit man. But you know what, they loved me because I was so young and cute they just took me as their kid. I was this kind of Independent student then. I never always wanted to bother my peepz at home.

Though my monthly allowance was always regular, kudos to Baba Sanya for that, but you know now. It would never be enough for you as a student. At a point, I began to go about with my special spoon anytime I wanna visit a friend.

They know me, I had this kind of soft knock. So when they suspected I was the one at the door.

They hid whatever meal they had. I remember visiting Wale at a time and he had hid his meal under his bed, totally forgotten about Kuku, the cat he had as pet.

It was so unfortunate for him that Kuku was right under the bed when he hid his meal. We gisted for some time and when I noticed he had nothing, I left. He later confessed to me in school how his pet had eaten the food he hid from me.

This never disturbed my Academic performance, I wondered how I was able to cope. But I just always passed without having a CO throughout my stay on campus and I left with a 2.1.

I got a turn around eventually when I began organizing tutorials for kids in Secondary and Primary schools.

And it was a very good decision I made then as the kids in the area made me their mentor and always looked up to me for both moral and financial assistance. They all called me Uncle SY, not even realizing I was just some few years older than majority of them.

School was fun and I will still be letting you guys know about I got tear gased in my first ALUTA EXPERIENCE on Campus, and My Soujourn to FUTA in search of true love. LOVE YOU ALL.
