The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) said Computer-Based Test (CBT) would be used to conduct examinations for applicants of the 2015 recruitment into the service.

Mr Chukwuemeka Obua, the Public Relations Officer of the service, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.

Obua said this was to prevent a reoccurrence of the 2014 recruitment where a stampede was recorded at various centres across the country due to large crowd of applicants.

He said the CBT would also be used to conduct the examination in order to test the computer literacy level of applicants.

He said this was a basic requirement for employment into the service.

“ This is the process that will be adopted for the recruitment in order to prevent the reoccurrence of the past incident. Four or five computer centres will be designated in each state of the federation.

“ Applicants will be divided according to these centres and they will be communicated online individually the date they are required to sit for the examination and the location in order to prevent over-crowding in centres and cases of non-applicants in attendance,” he said.

The spokesman said the CBT was a global trend accepted and used worldwide to conduct examinations.

He said the device was chosen to prevent the rigours associated with paper-based examinations.

He said that applicants would not be required to bring any writing materials; rather, they would only need their password which was the registration number to log into the computer, answer the test and submit online.

Obua said after the test, successful applicants would be contacted individually and asked to report to designated immigration offices across the country where they would be further examined.

“ At this stage, we will do the physical examination to check the height, presence of any physical disabilities and general state of health of applicants to ensure that they are fit to carry out their duties when employed.

“  Documents of applicants will also be reviewed during the examination after which successful candidates will be contacted online informing them of their acceptance into the service,” he said.

NAN reports that applications for recruitment into the NIS which commenced on Feb. 9 closed on March 22.

Nigerians are very funny. Instead of name calling y not get yourself prepared for the next opportunity. Faan this faan that but at least the process is better than what we are used before. Many people that doesn't know the minister or the President were successful yet we are here criticising government as if we can do better. Please commend the process and pray that other parastatals including state government should emulate instead of compiling names of their cronies

PROCESS FOR SHORTLISTING

Values guiding the process: Transparency, Openness, Equity, Fair Treatment

Below is the process being implemented for the shortlisting of candidates.

All applications were pre-screened for Aptitude Test against the established criteria that was designed and advertised. The total shortlisted were 36,657. This includes candidates from the hard copy applications as well as online applications.
A unique log-in name and password was created for each shortlisted candidate to be used for the Aptitude Test. This incorporated the unique ID created for each candidate at the application stage,
How targets were set and allotted to states:
For the AGM we targeted 20 candidates to be shortlisted for the one headcount.
For all other positions we targeted 6 candidates to be shortlisted per head count.
The total target shortlist for each job was allotted to States based on the Federal Character spread.
All 36,657candidates were notified via text messages and email with their log-in to go online and take the test. Testing was conducted on two websites.
Once the results were collated, they were sorted according to “job applied for” then sorted again for percentage grade.
The list of candidates who scored 50% and above were extracted and analyzed into three groups:
70% and above
60%-69%,
50%-59%.
The top performer list (70% and above) for each State is shortlisted first starting with the highest scorer until the State’s lot is filled.
If the State’s lot from step (7) above is filled, then there is no more shortlisting for that state for the job.
If the State’s lot from step (7 ) above is not completely filled then the next best group (60%-69%) from that State is shortlisted starting from the highest to the lowest.
If the State’s lot from step (9) above is completely filled then there is no more shortlisting for that state for the job.
If the State’s lot from step (9) above is not completely filled then the next best group (50%-59%) from that State is shortlisted for that job.
If after step (xi) above, a State’s lot is still not filled, the remaining lot is allotted to another state in the same geopolitical zone (starting with the State with the highest performance in that zone) until the lots completely filled.
If the lot for a job in a geopolitical zone is not completely filled, it is allotted to the highest performing state in the region of the country.
If the lot is still not filled at the regional level, it is then thrown open to be filled by another region in the country until the lots are all filled.

Not all the processes listed were followed. Below are the exceptions!

Shortlisting for the AGM DMU position

The total target shortlist for AGM is 20 candidates. It was not possible to divide this into 37 (States plus FCT) or to share into six geopolitical zones, so these rules were followed:

Sort for the top scorers. Find the top 10 for each geopolitical zone.
Allot one slot per State (No State is to be allotted more than one slot).
Ensure that the slots are spread equitably between geopolitical zones based on top scorers for each state.
Ensure that the spread is even between North and South.



Shortlisting for Security Cadet, Assistant Fire Superintendent, and Assistant Security Superintendent



The minimum score for these positions was lowered to 40% to accommodate non-degree holders who had to take the same test as degree holders for the levels 8 and above jobs. (These jobs allowed for minimum of NCE or OND educational qualifications).



All other shortlist processes described above were followed for these group of jobs.



3. Additional shortlisting of high performers not included in the above shortlist was conducted. High Performers are considered as candidates with 70% and above.

OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION

Shortlisting will continue until the final physical fitness test or until the target shortlist is met for each State. Where necessary, we will start another round of testing for States that are not meeting their target.
The impact of the selection process is that candidates that scored high (70% and above) may think that they should have been shortlisted. They may not have been because someone else in their State that applied for the same job scored higher. This was addressed by the additional shortlisting of the high scorers.
A candidate with a lower score from another state may have been shortlisted for the same job because that candidate is the highest scorer for that job from his/her State of origin. This is in line with the application of the Federal Character rules.
A candidate with a Master’s degree applying for Security Cadet, Assistant Fire Superintendent, or Assistant Security Superintendent is considered over-qualified and may not have been selected.

Says who? He is dam koret. I just got bk to PH from Enugu. All applicants with da below sms nature were al bursted out of da academy in Enugu within a twinkle of an eye. It was like a dream ...oooo. Da below sms natured was tagged cloned by FRAUDSTERS, courtesy FRSC and FAAN officials:

I got confused after i had already done interview and awaitn accreditation. Anyway, I am bak to my base. Life continues..........Were people also bursted in other centres?? //?

Stop confusing people here. U r not the only one that got that sms on 16th. I know of people that were successful including accreditation. Besides Enugu center was not the only place the pft and interview was conducted for that category of invitees. U may have been thrown out for some other reasons. Many people were successful. The panel of interviewers and faan officials could not have been so idle to be wasting their time on candidates that were not supposed to be there.

That is not correct. That ur credentials were not checked doesn't mean the sms was not genuine. Some candidate's name were not in their data base used for the exercise because there were not initially shortlisted. They collected credentials of those that have successfully completed the interview and promised to rectify their record. Remember the sms was checked at the gate before they allowed you in. Some with fake sms were detected at the gate and refused entry.

The first was test invite, d 2nd was on my re scheduled test and 3rd ..'kindly attend...' who is fooling. Its unfortunate that Nigeria is a country where nobody takes responsiblity. Let FAAN and their data managers hide there face in shame if there system was hacked. If were in enugu u will feel plight of guys dat came from far distance cos FAAN unseriousness. Unless u can convince me that the multitude paid the same person. I begggg, make i go office jareee. Am not desperate. Nigeria Youth must live to tell this ugly stories-from immigration to FAAN and still counting. See thousand of cadets at FRSC Academy Udi, come to think of it, how did they get the job and ehen was it advertised cos i was reliably informed that their camping started november last year. Is FAAN try to say that paying for job is a new thing in Nigeria assuming that this helpless guys indeed paid for one. Nonsenseeeee

Many people went through the process smoothly despite having not been shortlisted. I advise you read faan post on the overview of the recruitment so far
