PoliticsKiti 2018: How Fayose Has Maltreated Us With N150 Irregular Salary – Monarch by kantin(op): 4:57pm On Jun 15, 2018
A traditional chief in Ekiti State, Chief Wale Alade, has criticized Governor AyodeleFayose for allegedly maltreating members of the traditional institution in the state.

Alade, who is the Aro Afobaje of Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, expressed dismay that traditional chiefs earn as low as N150 per month which is not even regular.

He disclosed that they were owed nine months salary arrears, adding that he got his N700 salary for September 2017 five days ago.

Alade described the July 14 governorship election as an opportunity for the chiefs to reject poverty allegedly unleashed on them by poor welfare under Fayose’s vote. He said the chiefs were mobilising to vote against Fayose and his anointed candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola because of their plight.

Addressing a press conference in Lyin on Thursday, Alade described the alleged maltreatment of Obas and chiefs by Fayose as “shameful and very annoying.”

He explained that the traditional institution enjoyed better treatment under the tenure of former Governor Kayode Fayemi through regular payment of salaries, release of N450,000 security allowance to each community and special health mission for Obas, chiefs and their families.

He said: “The way forward is for us to vote him out and put somebody who is responsible there. We need a governor that will respect the leadership of our communities.“We need a governor that will respect the traditional institution, the Obas, their chiefs and other community leaders.

“This is what we want our people to do; we are mobilizing ourselves and we are going to vote him and his candidate out.“It is very shameful and annoying that we have a governor who calls himself a chief, the Apesin of Ado-Ekiti, maltreating us.”

Alade added: “It is frustrating to be paying us N700 and still be owing nine months. Speaking on behalf of myself, I am embittered that as a community chief, I am earning N700.“The one I collected four days ago was September 2017 salary; N700 for the chiefs in various communities in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, the local government of Fayose, who happens to be the current governor.

“He paid September 2017 and we are having outstanding arrears of nine months despite the annoying salaries we are collecting from the government now.“There are some of us who are collecting as little as N150 in a month, those who are in ‘Elegiri’ category. At times, they collect, N100 and at times, N110. These are facts that can be verified in our various communities.

“Even the Obas, are they paid properly? Are they given what they are supposed to have? This is the situation we are suffering and when you see us wearing beads all around, you will think we are having money.“

Politics2019: Fresh Crisis Hits PDP As Party Elders Dump Party For SDP by kantin(op): 2:48am On Mar 03, 2018
Three former ministers are leading an exodus of top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after efforts to heal the wounds of the last national convention of the party hit the rocks.

Ex-Information Minister Jerry Gana,ex-Education Minister Tunde Adeniran and ex-Niger Delta Minister Godsday Orubebe are moving to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) which is merging with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Peoples Salvation Party (PSP) to form a formidable party ahead of next year’s elections.

More chieftains of the PDP are expected to join them, The Nation gathered yesterday.
The Olusegun Obasanjo-inspired Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) is in talks with the SDP to work together.

The likes of Gana, Adeniran and Orubebe, all founding members of the PDP, are still displeased with what they see as the hijack of the party by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and others during the party’s last national convention.

Adeniran was defeated in a bitter chairmanship election by Wike’s candidate, Uche Secondus.
A high powered committee headed by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State to reconcile the aggrieved members could not help the situation.
The aggrieved party chieftains launched into a marathon meeting/negotiation with the leadership of SDP on Thursday night in Abuja for a merger.

The meeting ended early yesterday with the the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the coalescing group at Ladi Kwali Hall in Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.
Joining Gana from the PDP are a former Military Administrator of Katsina State, Sen. Joseph Akaagerger; a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe; Chief Mike Oghiadhome, who was a former Chief of Staff to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan; ex-Governor Saminu Turaki of Jigawa State; and ex-Minister of Defence, Dr. Olu Agunloye and a former Deputy Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Dare Emiola.

Also teaming up with SDP are a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Junaid Mohammed; Sen. Bassey Ewa Hensaw; a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olamide Oni; Supo Shonibare (South-West Zonal chairman of SDP), Hon. Dipo Olaitan (a former leader of the Alliance for Democracy in the House of Representatives); a former Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Kehinde Ayoola; Amb. Yemi Farounbi; leaders of the Middle Belt Forum; Mr. John Dara; the leaders of the National Intervention Forum led by Dr. Tafawa Balewa; Amb Bejide; Shehu Gabam who gave the vote of thanks.

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae is a stalwart of the SDP.
Although ex-Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and a former Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu were part of the preliminary talks, it was unclear why they were not at the signing of the MoU.
A highly placed source in the group said:”As a matter of fact, Mantu propped up the name of a party which should be included in the merger but it was rejected. He attended the initial meeting but by the time the MoU was signed, he was not there.

“We are hopeful that he will be at our subsequent meetings. Some of our leaders are suspecting that Mantu may chicken out because he has been begging Adeniran and Gana not to leave PDP.
The MoU entered into by the leaders was obtained yesterday by The Nation.

Jointly signed by Falae (for SDP) and Prof. Gana (for Movement for a New Political Order), the MoU reads in part: “Whereas on the 12th Day of February 2018, a joint resolution was adopted at Sheraton Hotel Abuja, for working together to ensure the emergence of a new and credible political order to deepen democracy, good governance and genuine development, with peace, security and social justice. The said meeting also unanimously resolved to build:

a)a restructured, balanced equitable and truly functional Nigerian Federation:
b)a humane, free, seIf-reliant and democratic society;
1. c) a dynamic, productive, transformed and sustainable economy;
2. d) a just, fair, egalitarian and peaceful nation
3. e) a land of bright and full of opportunities for all Nigerians; and
4. f) a national culture of raising good leaders through effective mentoring;
“Whereas, it was also agreed that the proposed movement shall be directed, driven and defined by such core values as: 1. Justice, fairness, equity and progress; 2. Democracy, good leadership, good governance and sustainable development; 3. Transparency, integrity, truth and honour; 4. Accountability and zero tolerance for corruption; 5. Respect for human dignity, human rights and sanctity of human life;; and 6. Peace, security, harmony, cooperative solidarity, within the rule of law; and 7. International cooperation for a common humanity within a secure and peaceful order.

“Whereas, the movement further resolved to be inspired and motivated by the ideals of social democracy, with great emphasis on: the triumph of social justice; the nobility of human dignity; the harmony of fairness and equality; the power of working together in solidarity; the excellence of good governance, driven by good leadership; the wisdom of reforms and transformation far beyond mere growth; the horror of poverty, demanding eradication; the dignity of prosperity; the imperative of democracy and the security of peace with justice

“Whereas with due reference to these objectives, core values, and ideals, a Strategy Committee was mandated to search for a suitable, popular, meaningful and widespread platform, with a name that already resonates with the people and to make appropriate recommendations; and
“Whereas, the Strategic Committee, comprising representatives from all the six geopolitical zones of the Federation, have met and submitted their report, unanimously recommending the adoption of Social Democratic Party(SDP) vehicle by the movement for a new political order:

“Therefore, we hereby resolutely agree to: (a) Fuse together into one political form; (b) adopt the Social Democratic Party(SDP) as the political vehicle for the fused political formation; (c) Convene a non-elective convention for Saturday, 14th April, 2018; (d) authorize the National Working Committee to serve as the Interim Management Committee until the said convention; Set up a National Steering Committee of 12 members to guide the Interim Management Committee during the transition period; Raise a Constitution Review Committee to consider all necessary amendments to the party constitution.”
Speaking with our correspondent last night, Dr. Junaid Mohammed said: “Those involved in SDP are the Peoples Redemption Party(PRP), Peoples Salvation Party(PSP), the Social Democratic Party(SDP) and some elements of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). It was like a merger but we do not want to call it so because the All Progressives Congress(APC) has destroyed the concept of merger.

“I am an optimist, I believe SDP will make a great impact. The main reason I want to be associated with it is because it is ideologically driven. Even it was not ideologically driven before, it has to be ideologically driven.

Asked if some governors and National Assembly members have subscribed to SDP, Mohammed added: “It is not compulsory to have governors or members of the National Assembly in a party to succeed. There are about 65 to 67 parties thereabout in the country. In terms of electoral performance, most of the parties are not on ground. The two parties which have led the country are not doing well. They have impacted negatively on the economy and our political life. A three-party or a four or five -party system will be better.”
A top source in the SDP said: “The SDP has been approached by the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) which has been founded by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. We are hopeful that our ongoing talks will be fruitful.

“We share common ideals with the CNM on how to move the nation forward.

PoliticsIgbo Is Most Foolish Tribe In The World. Uwazurike by kantin(op): 11:01am On Feb 05, 2018
Founder and leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, has described the Igbo as foolish.

The MASSOB founder insisted that Igbo may not become Nigeria’s president because they only fight for their pocket.

Speaking with Punch, Uwazurike recalled how Igbo was pushed aside after forming the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 1999.

He insisted that anyone calling for the unity of Nigeria does not mean well for the already troubled nation.

His words, “Remember, it was the Igbo man that formed this PDP but they snatched it from him. Then, it was clear that an Igbo man would be the President of Nigeria. But in Jos, it was the Igbo who robbed themselves of that opportunity. The Igbo at that political event in Jos started speaking Hausa.

“The Igbo started sponsoring (Olusegun) Obasanjo against (Alex) Ekwueme; giving N100 million and all that to another tribe to emerge. Let me tell you, the Igbo tribe is the most foolish tribe I have ever seen in the world.

“While the Yoruba embraced unity, the Igbo man was the person speaking Hausa in Jos; the Igbo man was the one donating money against his own brother in Jos to another candidate.

“Is that a wise tribe? Then, who should I apologise to for using the word ‘foolish?’ Then what have we achieved from the PDP? For how many years have the Yoruba people used the PDP? Eight years! Now, when it was the turn of the South-East, they sent it to South-South.”

RomanceI Am Marrying My Son, I Am Pregnant For Him. by kantin(op): 7:03am On Feb 05, 2018
Wonders they say shall never end as a Zimbabwen woman married her own son.
The woman and her son claim to be in love with each other and they decided take their relationship to the next level and got married considering that the mother, Betty Mbereko (from Mwenezi in Masvingo) is now six months pregnant and expecting her son’s child, and her grandchild.
Mrs. Mbereko who is 40 years has been a widow for the past 12 years and has been living with her 23-years-old son Farai Mbereko. She confirmed that she is six months pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.
Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier and that after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.
“Look, I struggled alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong. “Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court council.
The son, Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the lobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents.
According to him, “I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,”. “It is better to publicise what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant.Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.”
But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (This is a bad omen indeed). In the past they would have to be killed but
today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.”
He warned them to immediately break off their marriage or leave his village. They chose the latter and have since left https://www.onlinenigeria.com/site/stories/general/453682-i-am-marrying-my-son-because-i-spent-money-to-train-him-in-school-and-i-am-pregnant-for-him-mother-reveal-shocking-true-life-story-and-secrets.html

Foreign AffairsWhy Did They Kill Gaddafi? by kantin(op): 12:16pm On Feb 02, 2018
"Under Gadaffi

In Libya a home is considered a natural human right, Everyone was given a house to live to call their own.

2. Education and medical treatment were all free

3. All newlyweds in Libya would receive 60,000 Dinar (US$ 50,000 ) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start a family.

4. When Gadaffi came Libyans had a massive shortage of clean water, but he made sure all Libyans had clean water access by creating one of the biggest irrigation projects world has ever seen.

5. Should Libyans want to take up a farming career, they receive farm land, a house, equipment, seed and livestock to kick start their farms –this was all for free.

6. When a Libyan woman gave birth she was given 5000 (US dollars) for herself and the child.

7. Electricity was free, 100% 8. Petrol was dirt cheap, priced in a way anyone can afford it.

8. Before Gadaffi only 25% of Libyans were literate. This figure was brought up to 87% with 25% earning university degrees. Gave so many benefits for Libyans for education.

9. In Libya loans to citizens at 0% percent interest by law and they had no external debt.

10. A portion of Libyan oil sales is or was credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.

11. Libyan Govt was Debt free and $150 billion in cash reserves, compared to that United States is under $19 trillion in debt.

Gold Dinar:

Mystery solved Hilary Clinton's emails shed light on another enigma remarked on by early commentators. Why, within weeks of initiating fighting, did the rebels set up their own central bank? Robert Wenzel wrote in The Economic Policy Journal in 2011:

"This suggests we have a bit more than a rag tag bunch of rebels running around and that there are some pretty sophisticated influences. I have never before heard of a central bank being created in just a matter of weeks out of a popular uprising."

It was all highly suspicious, but as Alex Newman concluded in a November 2011 article:

"Whether salvaging central banking and the corrupt global monetary system were truly among the reasons for Gadhafi's overthrow ... may never be known for certain - at least not publicly."

There the matter would have remained - suspicious but unverified like so many stories of fraud and corruption - but for the publication of Hillary Clinton's emails after an FBI probe. They add substantial weight to Newman's suspicions: violent intervention was not chiefly about the security of the people.

It was about the security of global banking, money and oil.”

Crime‘e-money’ Killed In Gun Duel With Police by kantin(op): 4:23am On Feb 01, 2018
Collins Ezenwa, also known as ‘E-Money’, has been shot dead by the operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad during a shootout with kidnap kingpins in Imo State. He was gunned down on Sunday, January 28, 2018
Collins who was said to have had a lavish wedding last November had gone underground with the pretext that he traveled to Malaysia for greener pastures.
According to a Facebook post, “E-Money” returned in December, 2017 with loads of cash making a lot of people green with envy over his new found wealth.
Andrew Enwerem, the Imo State Police public relations officer confirmed that “E-Money” was killed along with two others. Three other members of his gang were arrested.
“E-Money” was allegedly so rich that he bought and gave out cars to people during the last Yuletide.
Also, another member of the kidnap syndicate, Chinwendu Sylvester, 24, from Olori Amaraku in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, who allegedly operated as the driver, said that he took to kidnapping after Governor Rochas Okorocha demolished his business at Ekeonunwa Market, Owerri.
Chinwendu said that his clothing shop was demolished and he approached a friend who introduced him to the syndicate, where he operated as the driver.
According to him, he has spent three years at the Owerri Prisons for robbery related offences.
He said: “When a job pays, he pays us according to the role we played. One of our victims paid N2million and he gave me about N380,000. From December till date, he gave me above N600,000 in all the operations.”
A police source told newsmen that the gang leader accumulated millions via the crime, saying that “it is unfortunate that we could not capture him alive. He was a multi-millionaire, he bought cars and gave out some to communities where he received chieftaincy tittles.

CrimeNigerian ‘human Trafficker’ Held In Libya by kantin(op): 8:05am On Jan 15, 2018
Following an understanding with Federal Government delegation, the Libyan government has detained a top Nigerian female human trafficker Maria Oda.
Oda, known in Tripoli as Hajiya Aisha, is believed to have trafficked more than 80 ladies and girls to the North African country.
Yesterday a returnee said many Nigerians remain are imprisoned at a Libyan town from where people connect to Europe through Italy.
Mr Paul Eke, one of the 560 returnees from Libya said in Port Harcourt yesterday that the federal government should “do more by rescuing some Nigerians who are still trapped in some interior parts of Libya.”
He said: “I stayed in Zawe Superata, this place is like an exit point to Italy and so many Nigerians are still being imprisoned there.” He thanked the federal government for ensuring a smooth return of migrants, adding that it showed the government’s commitment to its citizens.
Intelligence report indicated that Maria Oda was a “notorious” member of a syndicate recruiting young girls for prostitution, slavery, menial jobs and exodus to Libya, Spain and Italy.
According to a top source, Maria is expected to be tried in Tripoli.
The source said: “After being trailed for many months, she was arrested. Her profile showed that she is from Akwa Ibom. She is using the fake name Hajiya Aisha.
“She runs a human trafficking ring in Tripoli and she has remained in the business for many years. She had up to 80 girls under her control. She is detained in Tajoura Detention Centre in Tripoli.
“The Libyan government has lined up three of her victims as witnesses during her trial. Immediately the affected girls complete their testimony, they will be evacuated to Nigeria.
“The Federal Government delegation was briefed about the nefarious activities of Maria Oda.
“I think if the agreement between Libya and the Federal Government is firmed up, the suspect may serve her jail term in a Nigerian prison.”
The Federal Government has been working in collaboration with Libyan authorities to track down those behind trafficking to the Arab country through Niger Republic.”
A member of the government delegation: “We are aware of the arrest of the suspect, we have been told. We are awaiting the outcome of her trial.” http://thenationonlineng.net/nigerian-human-trafficker-held-libya/

Speaking at a book launch in Lagos on Wednesday, Mr. Fani-Kayode, in a speech titled ”A Date with Destiny,” said the administration of Mr. Jonathan has plunged the country into financial recklessness, bloodbath (apart from during the civil war) and total misrule never before experienced in the country.
On the planned amnesty for the violent insurgent group, Boko Haram, the former minister said it is an “inglorious endeavour” and an “exercise in futility” that will “set a dangerous precedent.”
“4, 400 precious souls cut short and slaughtered like chicken by Boko Haram in the last two years. How can our government sleep well at night with all that innocent blood that has flowed whilst they are at the helm of affairs of our nation?” the former minister said.
“More innocent souls have been killed in the last 2 years by terrorists than at any other time in the history of Nigeria outside the civil war. How does President Jonathan and his”today’s men” feel about winning such a dubious and dishonourable title? Does he still regard Boko Haram as “his siblings” who he “cannot hurt”?
“Why did the President refuse to visit the good people of the northeast for so long despite the fact that hundreds of people are still being slaughtered there by Boko Haram every day?” he added.
He said the government has proved it does not “give a damn” to the suffering of the people and the loss of lives by not visiting the troubled region until politicians from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) did; and the president’s lukewarm and delayed response to the recent massacre of 185 people in Baga.
“He did not visit the place until the APC governors took the initiative, did the right thing, went there boldly and paved the way? It was only after that initiative was taken by the opposition that our President woke up from his deep slumber, remembered that he was the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces and saw fit to go to the north-east. Why did he take so long before doing so?”
“Does the fact that it took our Government two days to even acknowledge that the Baga massacres ever took place and that when they finally did all they said was that they would ”investigate it” not seem rather insensitive? This was after the Sec. Gen. of the U.N. and numerous other world leaders had not only condemned the massacre but had also expressed their condolences to our President, to the Nigerian people and to those that lost their loved ones. Yet to the best of my knowledge not one word of condolence or regret was offered by our President or our Government. Since when have we degenerated to such a point that when our people are killed in such a brazen manner and in such large numbers we don’t even seem to ”give a damn”? Since when have we become a nation of sociopaths that have no feeling and that do not value human life?” he said.
Mr. Fani-Kayode said the Jonathan administration has refused to tackle corruption and therefore has plunged the economy into deeper mire by its wanton display of financial impudence.
“When will our President and his ”today’s men” answer David Cameron, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom’s, question and tell him what they did with the 100 billion USD that they made from oil sales in the last two years? When will they answer Obi Ezekwesili’s question about how they squandered 67 billion USD of our foreign reserves? When will they answer the question that Nasir El Rufai asked sometime back about how they spent over 350 billion naira on security vote in one year alone? When will they answer the many questions that Pat Utomi and many other distinguished and courageous leaders and ”yesterday’s men” have raised about the trillions of naira that have been supposedly spent on oil subsidy payments in the last two years?” he asked.
“When will they implement the findings and recommendations of the Nuhu Ribadu report on the thievery that has gone on in the oil sector? When will they cultivate the guts and find the courage to respond to a call for a public debate to defend their abysmal record? When will these ”today’s men” stop being so reckless with our money? Why would our ”today’s man” FCT Minister budget 5 billion for the ”rehabilitation of prostitutes in the Abuja”? Why would he budget 7.5 billion naira for a new ”FCT city gate”? Why would he budget 4 billion naira for some kind of building or centre for the First Lady? Why would the Federal Government of ”todays men” budget 1 billion naira for food in the Villa? Are these the priorities of ”today’s men”? And all this when Nigeria is back in foreign debt to the tune of 9 billion USD and is still borrowing, when local debt has hit almost 50 billion USD, when 40 per cent of Nigerians are unemployed, when graduate unemployment has hit 80 per cent, when 40 per cent of Nigerians do not have access to good food and are described by the U.N.D.P as being ”hungry” and when 70 per cent of Nigerians are living below the poverty line? Is this the vision of ”today’s men?”

BusinessNigeria Is One Of The Top Four Leading Voices In Public Private Partnershipin. by kantin(op): 7:14am On Jan 01, 2018
Nigeria is one of the top four leading voices in Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in the 2017 ranking of the World Bank Group (WBG).
Communications Officer for Infrastructure, PPPs and Guarantees Group of the WBG Ms Yelena Osipova-Stocker, stated this yesterday.
She described 2017 as a busy year in the world of infrastructure and public-private partnerships at the World Bank Group:
Yelena said Nigeria’s Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) came top four in the Leading voices in the field category .
She said Nigeria was recognised for being the first country to launch the PPP Contracts Disclosure Web Portal.
Acting Director-General, ICRC, Mr Chidi Izuwah, said the portal had improved investor confidence in the country.
He said within the first 100 days of President Muhammadu Buhari’s
administration, he stressed his commitment to attracting the private capital and expertise needed to address Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit.
He said the president’s commitment led to a renewed engagement between the World Bank Group and Nigeria to enhance the attractiveness of PPP in the country.
Izuwah said the portal helped to fulfill President Buhari’s goals
of fostering transparency and accountability in PPPs, to attract
the much-needed foreign capital and expertise.
He said this would help scale up Nigeria’s infrastructure development through PPPs and promote sustainable growth and development.
“One major PPP transparency initiative is the study conducted by the World Bank Group’s PPP team between September 2016 and April 2017, using the Framework for Disclosure in PPPs.
” The team came up with a PPP Disclosure Diagnostic Report for Nigeria that examined the political, legal and institutional environment for disclosure of PPPs,” he said.
Izuwah said that the report made specific recommendations to improve disclosure in Nigeria by creating an enhanced framework for the scheme, applicable to all Federal Government PPP contracts.
On Sept. 22, 2017, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo launched the portal, sponsored by the World Bank and the ICRC.
The portal encourages proactive disclosure of contract agreement between the government and its contractors on PPP projects.
It was expected to provide information to citizens and relevant stakeholders such as contract title, supervising government agency, name of private concessionaire, contract sum and regular progress report on projects.
It is part of measures introduced by the present administration to ensure greater transparency and openness in all areas of governance in Nigeria.
PoliticsBuhari Okays Action On Audit Reports On 400 Niger Delta Projects by kantin(op): 5:26am On Dec 22, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that action be taken on the Technical Audit Report on all projects awarded between 2009 to 2015 by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs. This is to ensure that there is value for the over N450 billion so far released for projects in the nine oil producing states.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Usani Uguru Usani, who stated this in Abuja at a news conference to review the activities of his ministry in the past two years, said the audit report not only provided first-hand information on the over 400 projects but convinced the President to approve the supervision of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by the Ministry to avoid duplication of duties.

Usani who did not give details of the actions the government would take against contractors who collected various sums of money but failed to deliver, said it was regrettable that the percentage of job done on the projects stand at only 12 per cent.

He said: “The Ministry may not have got it right at inception in terms of pursuing the agenda of government of transforming the region, we are nonetheless committed to changing the narratives by addressing the core needs of the people.

He explained that between 2016 and 2017 about 214 women and youths from the nine states of the Niger/Delta were trained in Ibadan, Oyo state in fisheries, poultry and Information Communication Technology and empowered with sums ranging from 300,000-500,000 naira (107 million naira) as start-up capital for business.

The Minister said 130 youths were earlier trained in Isreal in poultry, aquaculture and crop production and were given one million naira each to begin a life of productivity, stating that the funds were disbursed through the Bank of Agriculture and the Nigerian Agriculture Insurance Corporation.

The minister said one million non-militant youths and women have been trained in various fields of human endeavours, while seven cassava processing plants were being established in the region to make life easy for the citizens.

He said the ministry had facilitated the required 30 per cent counterpart funding to access European Union (EU) 2.4billion naira grant for a water project in five Niger/Delta states of Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Rivers and Akwa Ibom under the Niger/Delta Support Programme.

Usani added that the ministry is constructing housing estates in the nine states of the region, while work was at advanced stage in the skill acquisition centres being constructed by the Ministry in the affected states. He added that the Skill Centre in Otuoke had been completed and handed over to the Federal University, Otuoke to manage.
