Car Talk / Re: 4-cylinder Engine Vs 6-cylinder Engine by Kay999(m): 1:29pm On May 20, 2011 |
I don't think one engine type is better than the other. I think one's choice of engine type should be based on personal circumstances. For example, if you are living in Lagos mainland, say somewhere in Ogba and you work in Victoria Island (9-5 job). Your situation typically will be that you are driving at least one hour in slow traffic in the morning and another one hour in traffic in the evening. During the week, you may never get to accelerate to more than 80KM/h. In this kind of situation a Toyota Corolla with 4 cylinders and 1.8 litre engine will definitely be a smarter choice than any car with a V6 engine. On the other if you are business man and you do a lot of interstate travelling and rarely drive in rush hour traffic, then a V6 engine may be a better choice for you. That's my opinion. 2 Likes |
Car Talk / Re: BMW X5 Vs Mercedes-Benz ML - Which Would You Choose? by Kay999(m): 8:33pm On Apr 30, 2010 |
@Siena Let me first say i'm impressed by your wealth of knowledge about cars, i hope u'll continue to share your knowledge and experience on this forum. I believe when you started this thread, u wanted people to choose based on their personal preference and/or experience with either of the cars. But it seems some people are choosing based on sentiments, which has led to some petty arguments and name calling. In order to make the poll more of objective, can i suggest that u specify some criteria to judge the cars by. E.g. Overall driving experience, off-road capability, aesthetics, maintainability, performance, etc. Personally, I'll take the beemer anyday. I think they go the extra mile in making their cars more enjoyable for the driver. |

Ranks007: According to BMW, X5 is more of a Sports Activity Vehicle than a regular SUV. It is optimized for on-road (pavement) rather than off-road driving. I'd like to see a test with the same lineup of SUVs on a race track. I bet the X5 will beat them all hands down. |

Hello German007, I think you are a very good business man, you always take time to patiently address every poster's issue. Great work. Keep it up. I'm going to change my car sometime this year, i had been thinking of bringing in something from America, but after following this thread, i'm having 2nd thoughts. I have 2 questions for you. Is it really cheaper to bring in cars from Europe (assume same model and year in America). Secondly the issue of overheating is very important, I currently use a honda accord and i can do 2 hours in stand still traffic with ac on and no overheating. This wasnt the case with the BMW 325i I used before. But I am a BMW fan, and I would love to drive another one, if the overheating problem is not there. Are there mechanics in Lagos that can do a great job of "climatizing" the european cars. That said, can you give pricing (to my door in Lagos) for the following cars from Europe (if possible with pix): Benz C-Class, Auto, AC, Low Mileage, 2000-2003 models BMW 5 series Auto, AC, Low Mileage, 2000-2003 models Thanks. |
Investment / Re: Stock Issues- Help! by Kay999(m): 8:46pm On Jan 26, 2010 |
@sonate One problem without us Nigerians is that we dont often try seek redress for infractions, thereby allowing the perpetrators of injustice to continue operating. Do you know that there is a special department in the Stock Exchange that is setup for handling issues such as yours. Do you know that by reporting him to this department, you can get him barred from trading on the floor until he has paid you back to the last kobo. This department is called the compliance department. Just walk into the stock exchange building on customs street and ask for the compliance department, when you get there, tell them you want to make a complaint against a broker. It is a very simple and strightforward process. Good luck. |

The solution i mentioned was a full accounting system consisting of: General Ledger AR AP Fixed Assets Budget With an inbuilt workflow system. It also had a Government accounting module. I've also developed other solutions to interface with ERP systems like SAP business one. |
Business / Successfull Software Development Business by Kay999(m): 11:08am On Oct 12, 2009 |
Hi Nairalanders, I find this forum to be very informative and useful and i'm impressed by the effort people commit to providing answers to enquries. How can one run a successfull software development business in Nigeria. When i try to secure software projects directly, i have challenges because most people want to deal with established names (even if the established names end up subcontracting to companies like mine). They either underprice or pass the project to a bigger company. How can a small firm ( i have 2 guys i use for my projects on contract basis) like mine break into the big league. |
