Even if this is true, this isn't the only issue I raised
It's Sunday. That's why I'm trying to be nice by ignoring your other non-issues.

American Gangster (2007) 8/10

Watching this movie now, you'll be thinking the cast is stacked, until you remember most of the familiar faces weren't even B-listers as at 2007.
A fictionalized tale of Frank Lucas, driver, bodyguard and collector for Bumpy Johnson who sets out to conquer the heroin market in the late 60s to early 70s, profiteering off the Vietnam War.
Densely excels effortlessly along with Russell Crowe and the supporting cast aren't no slouches either.
Whenever a movie passes 2 hours, my biggest concern is about the pacing. American Gangster's near-3 hours breezed by me because of the engaging storytelling and great pacing.

Gmajor:
This is a very reductive way of reviewing a movie- you either like it or you're too stupid to like it.

I wish I could find the review I wrote about this movie on this thread, but e don wey I post am.

I can understand the position of someone who isn't too fond of this movie.

Yes, the acting in the movie is powerful but there are some issue I take with the movie like:

The movie is too long and I think the first and second act go on forever.
The movie doesn't have enough joker in it. He just shows up at the very tail end of the movie.
And also, some fans are wondering where this joker fits into the DCEU. is he supposed to be a replacement for Jared Leto? Why is he so old and Batman so young? Are we supposed to believe that this thoroughly unchacharismatic individual will ever become the joker we know from the movies and comics? Are we supposed to believe that this already old man will pose a problem to Batman when he grows up?

There are other issues someone may take with this movie, these are just the few I can remember now.
So your problems with the movie are because of questions that were answered during it's promotion but for some reason, you totally missed?

I couldn't make it past the first 15 minutes of the movie before I ragequit. That movie is horrible, Artemis isn't the asshole evil genius he's supposed to be in the first book, this guy was surfing in the first scene of the movie.

Butler is played by some fat Nigerian dude and everyone calls him by his first name.

Mulch Diggums is a giant dwarf for some reason so he is human-sized.

They made Commander Root a woman in the movie which is a big deal because in the books Holly Short is supposed to be first female LEPRecon agent apart from Vinyaya who is in secret service. Root is supposed to be incredibly strict towards her because she's supposed to set the standard future female agents.

I must have aged 5 years in those 15 minutes from boning face too much.
Exactly why I described it as a monstrosity masquerading as an Artemis Fowl movie. It's almost as if they put all their energy to making sure that it bore no semblance to the books at all.

I've finished the first book and just started the second. I'm just going to watch the movie as an original, not as an adaptation of the books.

Small lie? The inaccuracies in the trailers alone pass small lie. But I still plan to watch the movie, so till then.

My bad! But check out the first book and see if it's a series you'd like to get into.

P.S: If you do get into it, be sure to never watch a monstrosity masquerading as an Artemis Fowl movie produced by Disney.

It is the dearth of sensible movies this year due to the pandemic that is making that trash look appealing to you.
Lol. This would be viable, if I was out of things to watch. The movie is, indeed, OK.

Same sentiments here....
I also couldn't understand the hate.
It's not as if it is unwatchable. Most were yapping about it's plotholes like The monsters releasing atomic particles/radiation and the humans which were very close to them hardly being affected by it. grin
Some were even complaining about it's CGI. grin grin
To me it was decent compared to the nonsensical movies that came out last year.
I swear. I don make coffee wey I go use chase sleep grin To my surprise, movie just grab my attention for 2hrs+.

Too much bias and sentiment on my part to rate it objectively. Instinctively, I'll place it at a 5.5/10

the producers need to give us daylight fight scenes abeg, the fight scenes between Godzilla and Ghidora should have been in daylight.
Maybe just one scene. Rendering a CG fight of that magnitude in daylight is a technical nightmare, hence why they gave Ghidora that tropical storm hax.

So guys, I just dislocated my knee and won't be mobile for a while. Can I get some manga/manhwa recommendations to pass the time?
Sorry about that, fam. Can't even imagine the pain.
Well, I haven't gotten into manga/manhwa yet. (I've only so much time on my hands, currently.) But if you're into novels, I'ld like to recommend

The Last Don by Mario Puzo
The Last Wish (The Witcher series) by Andrzej Sapkowski
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

The Old Guard (2020) 6.5/10

I just came for the action and ended up finding the plot even more interesting than I thought I would. (Saw Booker's betrayal coming from a mile away, down to his reasons for doing it.) The "Why" uncovered in the third act seems really weak to me and left me with even more questions than answers. So while I find the plot even more interesting than I expected, the execution still came off as sub-par to me.
Charlize still slays her roles, effortlessly, and having a decent cast helped her to not develop any back pain from having to carry the entire movie on her shoulders.

P.S: Someone here said that with Andy and company being immortal removed any stakes from the movie. That person obviously did not watch the movie. Not uncommon around here, sha.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

I honestly don't understand why this movie got such a bad rap. Sure, it's not going to be in contention for any awards or anything but it wasn't really as bad as people painted it to be. Yes, the plot could have been better but at least, it wasn't nonsensical.
This movie reaffirms my convictions to see movies I originally set out to see, irrespective of what everyone else is saying about it. I thought it was going to be a laborous task to see it through but it was actually mildly entertaining.

You know. Cross the rivers of flashbacks and forests of trash talk just to get to the action. Good times.

Netflix's numbering for the seasons are wrong. Season 2 is Season 3 on Netflix. So what your friend watched was actually Season 3, not 4.
