I understand bro. The first thing you need is to know what you have a passion for. Like I mentioned earlier, you just can't jump all over the place - you have to chose an area you like because IT is so broad. What you like may be different from what your neighbor likes, yet both of you are IT guys speaking in different languages.

For me personally, I started with SAP Security and GRC. Because I knew to learn SAP Security, you need to understand at least one module of SAP. So I learnt SAP Sales and Distribution (SD)and SAP Material Management (MM).

After learning at least one of those, learning SAP Security will be easy. You can search for an SAP Security class there on Udemy, or if you prefer a class a simple Google search can help

After learning SAP Security, learning SAP GRC is easier.

Just know the path SAP ERP > SAP Security > SAP GRC

That's if you like SAP at all, but SAP is the most used ERP application in the world and the biggest corporations in the world need SAP Experts.

If you prefer Oracle, there is a learning path as well. Business intelligence does have its own learning path as well, it's just up to you to know what you like to do.

It's doesnt matter what your background is. To get into IT only requires basic comprehension skills, which I believe you do. Just be tailored in your approach and not jump from all over the place. If you like programming, focus your efforts around programming trainings and get certified in the languages you like. Same applies to networking, project management, business analysis etc.
Just choose an area you like and build your skills around it.

For me, I like security and have worked several years around applications Security (Oracle and SAP), Compliance applications (GRC for Oracle and SAP), Business Intelligence (OBIEE, Spargo BI, Tableau, Microstrategy, Power BI and Cognos), Network Security (Juniper, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Checkpoint) and recently on Cyber Security/ Ethical Hacking. Some folks prefer other (boring to me) areas like project management, analysis etc. So what I like might be different from what you have strengths in.

I've seen folks with degrees in architecture, accounting, English, religious studies etc from Nigerian universities/polytechnic delve into IT here in the US, earning certifications as they build their portfolios. So, don't let your college major hold you down. The IT opportunities are indeed too much, but that's if you like that area to begin with. As long as you can think and learn, nothing is stopping you.

Bro, no need to kneel down and beg anybody. You can learn anything you want all by yourself. It all starts with you and whatever you have a passion for. Based on what I've read so far, I think the area he was talking about is either networking or network security.

If that's what you like to do, do this few things....
1. Go to www.udemy.com and open an account
2. Search for CCNA, CCNP, Cisco ASA, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Checkpoint courses. Wait. Don't buy them yet. Read the next steps.
3. Some of these courses will cost $200 and above, but let's get them cheap
Go to www.retailmenot.com, and search for 'udemy'. You will find coupons that will only make you pay $10 to learn each one of the classes.
4.You have to learn these stuff in a certain order. Your understanding of CCNA will make the rest easy for you to comprehend, so I'd recommend you focusing ur efforts on that initially as that's the basics for the rest.
5. If what you want is Network Engineering, after learning CCNA concepts and possibly getting a certification in it, an additional Certification in CCNP will make you stand out amongst your peers.
6. If what you want is Network Security, after learning CCNA concepts, learn Fortinet, Checkpoint and Palo Alto. If you're good with command lines, add Cisco ASA. Then you are good. You don't need nothing more.
All of them are same concepts, but different technologies. So it's easy to start with the easiest of them all - Fortinet. Don't jump all over the place, stay focused on one technology at a time, else u will get confused jumping from one to the other.
7. Afterwards, draft out your resume stating your skills and watch how you're flooded with calls. Mind you, you're only investing about $70 for all these courses. In the US network security professional make from $110,000 per annum, in other words you'd make more than your initial investment within your first hour on the job. You can make yourself 'badder' by adding Citrix Netscaler to your skillsets and start earning nothing less that $150,000 per annum.
Not sure what the rates are in Nigeria, it might be less.But these skills will always remain your skills anywhere you go in the world.
8. After getting that dream job, don't stay put. Start thinking of starting something of your own.
9. Thank me later.

i totally disagree with you; though parent's grooming of their children will go along way to determine how they will act tomorrow, it is not always the case. You can not bring a child to this world and tell him/her how to live; people change. haven't you witnessed a scenerio where the two parents and all their children except one is wicked; why did he/she no follow the footsteps of his/her parent. What really determines how we will act at any given time is US, that entails WE knowing ourselves. Even Orphans lead a good life without coaching from anybody but life.
