When I started this story, my plan was to post at least a chapter every day. Sorry I missed posting yesterday, I will try to stick to a chapter a day from now on.

Chapter 5

A week had gone by and he hadn’t heard from the owner of the fast food joint. Although the experience he had at the place was a great one, it was just small success, and he thought something would have happened since then. He was waiting for that magical moment when something would happen to change his entire life, but it hadn’t happen yet and this was already a week to the end of his task.

The Olusho never really gave him the specifics of what would happen, so he couldn’t tell what to look out for. Yea, the ten crates he had sold two weeks ago was something out of the ordinary the way it happened, but he thought he would have experienced something bigger after that; like how it happened in the movies.

“One week to go.” He said out loud even though he was the only one in his 5 bedroom abode. Margaret had stopped calling him. He guessed she had gotten the message that he was no longer interested in getting back with her. As much as he liked spending time with her, and how much he liked the mind blowing sex they had, the time away from her had made him realize that they had very little in common. She liked the fast life, while he liked to take things easy. She loved to club, while he liked staying home watching movies, or making chicken barbecue in his backyard. She was 8 years younger than him, they definitely didn’t want the same things right now.

He turned off the TV and headed out. The news of the Herdsmen killing was getting too redundant he felt like puking any time he heard about it. He stepped out the door, into his compound, and his Alsatian, Susan, came tail wagging to greet him. The paint on the walls of the house was worn out and he focused on it as he took a crouching position to rub his dog’s head. He had plans of refurbishing the whole house, but he had been financially incapable for a while now and the thought of that made him feel bad.

“Woof!” Susan barked and ran off towards the backyard. A couple of rats had been a pain in his ass for a while now, and he guessed Susan had spotted one of them. He was about heading towards the gate to view the expressway when his phone started ringing. He rushed back, and as he was about to enter the house, he stopped for a second to look at Susan chasing something around the back gate.
He reached his phone in time to pick the call before the line went dead. “This one that this man is not picking up, I hope he won’t disappoint us o!” He heard a familiar voice say on the other end of the line when he picked up.
“Hello ma!” He said.
“Ehen! Thank God. I’m the one…”
“I know ma.” He said, cutting her off. It was hard to miss that voice, especially when he had been expecting the call for a while now.
“Oh! Okay. So, the thing is, we need…” She was saying, and then stopped to ask someone beside her how many crates they need, then she came back on with, “We need 50 crates, how soon can you deliver?”
He did a mental calculation before answering with, “About thirty minutes.”
“Okay. Please don’t disappoint us.”
“I won’t ma.”

Smiles, like seriously you need to check that. Already i am getting bored of the story because i check every night and there won't be any update and am quite sure that's the case for some people as well. Why not complete your stories before posting, you can be posting a chapter every night. This will even make the story more interesting. You can write but don't lose fans because of this carelessness.
My half cent though.
You check back every night? You mean this particular story? I stopped posting updates for this last part of the trilogy in 2016..there is a reason I stopped posting, and I can't disclose that, but I am not completing the story here any time soon.

I have 19 complete stories on this platform... 19 totally free, and complete stories.

I am not understanding. Are you posting a story not already completed or why will inspiration needs to fall on you again?
Lol! Yes. I write on the go. With all my stories, I start posting when I have just four chapters down.

Chapter 2

It had been seven days since his visit to the Olusho, and he was still on track with the task. He was at his dining table with a pen and a pad, crosschecking the accounts from yesterday at the poultry farm. His new manager had forwarded it to him last night. He had had to fire the last two managers he had at the poultry, but so far so good, this new one was impressive.

Even though his poultry business was his main source of income, there were days he couldn’t go there because dozens of poultry farms were springing up daily around the Sheshegun area of Ogun state his farm was located in, making competition stiff, and he had to go out to source for more customers. The egg glut of the previous year had really affected his finances, and he hoped never to experience anything like that again.

He was using the calculator on his phone when his phone started ringing. The caller ID showed it was Margaret calling. He automatically wanted to swipe to left, then he remembered what he had to do for thirty days and he the phone down. He watched it till it stopped ringing, and then he picked up the pad in front of me. As he found where he had left off with the accounts, the phone started ringing again.
Maybe she has gotten me a client; he thought to himself and picked up the phone again. He looked at the screen, focusing on the way the call waves expanded on the screen. After a few seconds, he picked up and said, “Hello.”
“Hey babe, how are you?” She said in her raspy voice.
“Fine.” He said and waited.
“I’ve missed you.” She said in a low voice.
“Why did you call?”
“Come on Efe! Why do you have to be so hostile?”
“Margaret, you broke up with me, remember?”
“I know! I know!” She said and the line went quiet for a while before she added, “I was confused.” When he didn’t say anything back she said, “Are you home? I want to come over.”
“Margaret, you can’t come over.” He said quickly.
“Please, I really want to see you.” She said and cleared her throat before adding, “I’ll do that thing you like.” Efe removed the phone from his ear, looked at the screen for a few seconds, and then swiped right. With the way the conversation was going, he didn’t trust himself to resist her request if she persisted. The phone started ringing again, and he pressed the bottom by the side of the phone to mute it, and then put the phone on the table.

He tried to go back to work, but he couldn’t concentrate any longer. Margaret’s naked body kept flashing through his mind; her petite but shapely body; her spotless smooth skin; the way her naked brown skin shines in the darkness; her full youthful breasts; her sexy eyes. He looked at the phone screen again and just then, a message came in. He picked up the black Wiko android phone, punched in 1926 to unlock it, clicked on the message, and it read, ‘Why would you cut the line on me? I’m coming over right now.’

Efe’s heart started beating fast as he thought of his next line of action. He hit reply on the touch screen phone, typed, ‘I’m not home’ and hit send. He held the phone up, with his eyes on the screen for a few seconds. When he didn’t get a reply back from her, he grabbed his car keys from the table and rushed out of his house.

Chapter 1

He couldn’t see smoke anywhere, but the burning incense smell was fresh in the air. He guessed it was coming from the inner room, or maybe the church had been previously purified before they got in. It was early Monday morning, and the whole place had a serene feel to it.

Efe was seated on a white plastic chair at the space between the church benches and the pulpit. Beside him was his Aunt, Ejiro, and directly opposite her was the Olusho of the church, who looked more like an Iman with his beard. He had a mix of black and grey unattractive goatee, brown teeth, and his charcoal black complexion made the wrinkles on his face appear very ugly.

The old man was saying something in Yoruba. Although Efe understood enough Yoruba to know what the conversation was about, the low and tired voice the man was speaking in made it hard to follow him. Also, Efe’s mind was on the middle aged lady he had seen with her head shaved, throwing up by the wall when he walked into the church premises a few minutes ago. He had looked into her eyes, and it was empty, like her soul had left her body.

Never would he have thought he would come to a place like this, but he had only agreed to this because it was a church thing. And also because since his parents died in a car accident seven years ago, his aunt Ejiro had become like a mother to him. She had been on his neck for months; he only agreed to her request yesterday morning, and she quickly fixed an appointment with the Olusho for this morning.
‘Efe, you are not getting younger o! Remember that.’ He remembered his aunt always repeating every time they spoke on the phone. Over the years, every time he was about to get a big break with whatever business he was into, something always happened to mess it up. His last birthday was his 29th, and he had thought that by now he would have at least settled down and started family. He had a three thousand capacity poultry house, but he was barely breaking even in the business.

He saw the man’s gaze shift to him, and he quickly looked up. “Se o ngbo mi?” The man asked in Yoruba if Efe was listening to what he was saying and chuckled. His aunt nudged him. Efe said, “Yes sir,” sat up, and added, “Be ni sir” Repeating himself in Yoruba. The man went on talking with a smile on his face as his laps made a funny continuous movement of coming together and moving apart, making the lower part of the white Sutana he had on to move like ocean waves.

The Olusho told them they won’t be need for him to conduct fasting or consult the spirit realm to check Efe’s destiny, as he could see it shining so bright right now. That statement made Efe focus more on what the man was saying. He went on to say the work was in Efe’s hands, and that there was just one thing he had to do differently. Then he looked at Efe for a few seconds before saying in Yoruba that all Efe had to do was abstain from sex for thirty days.

“O gbodo ni asepo pelu obinrin fun Ogbon ojo.” The man repeated the instructions again, focusing on Efe all the while, and making sure to know if Efe understood what he was saying. Efe nodded and smiled. His girlfriend, Margaret had broken up with him last month, and he felt this was going to be a stroll in the park for him.

The meeting was over, and his plump aunt got up from her seat and knelt to greet the man. She said she would come and see him later as she stood up tied the loose end of the brown ankara wrapper on her waist. Efe got up, nodded, and thanked the man in Yoruba. He waited as the man, in his slow talking voice said some more things to his aunt. As he stood there, listening to them talk, he thought of how simple the task was, and how he had initially thought it would involve buying candles, and fasting. The standing fan beside him was at the highest, and it felt like it was going to blow his lanky body out of the shirt and slacks he had on, so he moved his chair to the side and took a few steps back. He looked around the church, and his eyes fell on a portrait of black Jesus on top of the door that the Olusho had walked out from earlier.

“Ogbeni, magbagbe o! Ogbon Ojo.” The man said as he stood up from his seat, stressing the fact that Efe had to go thirty days and thirty nights without sex. Efe nodded once again with a smile on his face.

About this piece being longer, you do know the title is All in One Night, right? There is so much I can squeeze in a 12 hour time-span. Asides from that, I naturally write Novelettes (in between short stories and novellas). I'm happy you like the story, but the only thing that can make me make it longer is if a publishing house pays me to do so. grin. Thanks once again for your comment.

Chapter 12

3:30 am

They had to bribe the guards at the school gate before they could be allowed in. The Benz was in front, and Patrick drove behind in his Space Wagon. Ahmed turned on his car hazard light as he got to the school bookshop junction, slowed down, and navigated to the car park by the bookshop building; Patrick did the same.

Ahmed put the car in park and turned to face her with a smile on his face. He had apologized for what she had to witness earlier, and she had said it was alright, but they hadn’t spoken since then. “So…I really had fun with you tonight.” He said.
“Me too.” She said but it was clear she still had a lot on her mind. She looked up and then smiled before saying. “Your girl is staring at you.” Ahmed laughed lightly before looking to his right and seeing Bimpe’s blank stare on him. “I put two and two together.” Ruth added
“Technically speaking, she is no longer my girl.”
“Well, from the look of things, she definitely doesn’t think that.”
Ahmed looked to the side briefly, and then focused on Ruth before saying, “I’ll be right back.” He left the car running, stepped out, walked over to the driver’s side of the Sienna and before he said anything, Patrick opened the door, got out, and said, “I think I should give you guys a minute to talk.” Ahmed smiled stood still for a few seconds before hoping into the driver’s seat, and shutting the door.
After a prolonged silence, Ahmed said, “I’m sorry Bimpe, I can’t see you the same way again.” She turned her face the other way and tears rolled down her eyes. She saw Patrick getting into Ahmed’s Benz, and immediately he said something, the girl in the car started to laugh. Even as much as she was in pain, a smile started to form on her face.
“I understand Ahmed. I understand.” She said, wiped the tears from her face and smiled. He was shocked and didn’t know how to react. “Friends?” She said and stretched her hand at him.
“Friends.” He said and gave her a hug.
He pulled away and was about to get out of the Sienna when she pulled him back and said, “Wait. What did you say to Yusuf back at the club?”
He smiled before saying, “Let’s just say I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.” He got out of the space wagon, leaned in on the window and said, “Take care Bimpe” before walking off. Bimpe looked into space, wondering what her ex boyfriend meant by that statement. She was still lost in thought when Patrick opened the door and got in. “So, how did it go?” He asked and she shook her head. He looked surprised and added, “Don’t worry, I’ll…”
“No.” She cut him off. “It’s okay. It’s okay this way.”
“Hmm!”
“Patrick.” She was saying and stopped to clear her throat. “Thanks for everything you did for me today.” She added.
“It’s okay.” He said, still looking shocked that at how she was handling the situation.
“I want to make it up to you. Let me take you out for drinks tomorrow.”
“What?”
“All expense on me. I’ll rent an Uber and come pick you up.”
“Bimpe, it really was no biggie. You don’t have to do that.”
“I know. But I want to.” When he didn’t say anything back, she added, “Please give me the opportunity to be nice to someone that was genuinely nice to me.”
“Okay.” He said and her face lit up like a Christmas tree.

……….

When the two vehicles got to the bookshop building junction again, Patrick went left, and Patrick drove right. The Benz made another turn to the left, and drove for a few seconds, before stopping in front of The Queens hall. Ahmed turned off the car, sighed and shifted in his seat to face her. “It’s been one hell of a night.” He said.
“It sure has been.”
“Sorry again for what you had to see…I mean the fight.”
“Oh! That was actually pretty cool.” She said and her face lit up. “You just went, chap! Pow! Bam!” Ahmed laughed at how dramatic she was while describing his earlier fight incidence.
When the car got quiet he said, “Ruth, I’d like to see you again tomorrow. Sorry, later today.”
“Umm! Well…you know what I would like?”
“What?”
“Let me have your phone.” She said and he looked at her for a few seconds, wondering what she was up to. He gently pulled out his phone, unlocked it, and handed it over to her. She navigated through the phone for a few seconds, and then handed it back to him. “My number is no longer on your phone.”
“What?”
“I deleted Abike’s number too.”
“Why? Why would you do that?”
“Just hear me out first.” She said and smiled. “Today was great, but it was also complicated. If you still want me after seven days, then come see me here, the old fashioned way.”
“But…”
“Just seven days.” She said, cutting him off. “I’ll be waiting for you at this spot next week Saturday at 8 am.” She added.
What kind of childish game is she playing, he thought to himself. But he really liked her, so he said, “Okay.”
“Cool. I got to go now; I think the porter is by the gate.” She said and opened the car door. He got out and walked over to her side. “Seven days.” She said in a low voice, and gave him a hug. She was about rushing off when he caught her by the arm, and pulled her back towards him. They were chest to chest now. He looked deep into her eyes, slowly leaned in and kissed her passionately.

When he pulled away, she stood there stunned, looking up at him for a few seconds before turning around and slowly walking off to her hostel gate. She turned around just before stepping in, with a smile on her face, she rose up seven fingers. He smiled back at her and nodded.

The End

Hope I'll be forgiven if I say it was too short considering the fact that we don't know how many months we'll have to wait for the next update?
This is how I write. My chapters are always short (500-700 words), except it is a closing chapter, or in rare occasions.
