The Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case in Lagos State, Nigeria. The case, which was confirmed on the 27th of February 2020, is the first case to be reported in Nigeria since the beginning of the outbreak in China in January 2020.



The case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria on the 25th of February 2020. He was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.



The Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Health has been strengthening measures to ensure an outbreak in Nigeria is controlled and contained quickly. The multi-sectoral Coronavirus Preparedness Group led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has immediately activated its national Emergency Operations Centre and will work closely with Lagos State Health authorities to respond to this case and implement firm control measures.



I wish to assure all Nigerians that have we have been beefing up our preparedness capabilities since the first confirmation of cases in China, and we will use all the resources made available by the government to respond to this case.



We have already started working to identify all the contacts of the patient, since he entered Nigeria. Please be reminded that most people who become infected may experience only mild illness and recover easily, but it can be more severe in others, particularly the elderly and persons with other underlying chronic illnesses. All Nigerians should take care of their health and maintain hand and respiratory hygiene to protect themselves and others, including their own families.

Odion Ighalo becomes the first Nigerian to wear the Manchester United badge and also the first player to score for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men in a Europa League win against Belgian side, Club Brugge (5-0) at Old Trafford.

It was the forwards’s debut start for the Red Devils following his last minute loan transfer from Shanghai Shenhua as a successor for injured attacker, Marcus Rashford.

Ighalo made a shocking return to England following a brief career with Watford, but has had to be calm in a process to score his first goal for the Red Devils.

An Igbosere High Court in Lagos, Nigeria gives the “Kukere” crooner, Iyanya bail of N20million over claimed and supposed car robbery.

Justice Mobolanle Okikiolu-Ighile, on Thursday, February 27, 2020 directed Iyanya Mbuk to make known a guarantor in the like sum, who should also owned landed property in Lagos with a document of tenancy.

The judge also issues warning to Iyanya that the bail shall be reversed if not polished up between seven days.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile said:

“I have perused the affidavit and the counter-affidavit of the parties; there is a prima facie case of criminal conversion against him.”

“However, there is nothing to show that the defendant will interfere with the proceedings of this case and nothing to show that he will jump bail if granted bail.”

“Bail is therefore granted to the defendant in the sum of N20 million with one surety in the like sum.”

The judge adjourned the hearing till May 27, 2020 and May 28, 2020 for trial.

Back in March 15, 2019, the police indexed the one-count charge marked LD/9024c/2019 in opposition to the singer. Nevertheless, he didn’t appear in court for arraignment, despite supposedly being presented with the charge and perceiving notice. As the case may be, the arraignment was adjourned six times.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile warned to use the ability of the court to make sure that Kukere singer’s attendance to take his appeal.

Eventually, the singer was in attendance before the judge on February 4, 2020, following which the charge was stated out to him.

Prosecution counsel, Mr. Chukwu Agwu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), claimed that Iyanya carrried out the crime back in September 2018.

The court listened that the accused dishonestly changed to his use or of another person, a Black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) marked MAVINIY, with Chassis and Engine numbers JTEBX7FJ7EK165480 and 2TR1385954.

Agwu told the court that the Temple Management Company Ltd owned that said vehicle, represented by a lawyer, Ayodeji Olomojobi.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, was contrary to Sections 278(1) (b), 279(1)(2) and punishable under Section 285(10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The singer pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Agwu begged the court to keep the defendant in the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) custody, pending the hearing and inducement of his bail application, The Nation reports.

But Iyanya’s counsel, Mr Williams A.,objected to him. He begged the court to set free the singer to him and will be responsible to bring him in court on the next court hearing time.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile granted the defence counsel’s plea and freed him to his counsel.

From first glance, this particular topic (Technology promotes loneliness) raises eyebrows. This is because, in today’s age (commonly referred to as “digital” or “jet age) technological advancements have been pivotal in terms of making life easier and works faster to undertake. The technology of this day and age is one that hither to made the world a global village. That is not to say that from time past there had not been any kind of technology. In fact the very word “technology” refers to the organization of knowledge for practical purpose or better yet, the practical application of knowledge through mental or physical efforts to achieve some form of value. These definitions are spot on.

However the definition of technology in this context relies on it’s usage. Therefore we can say that technology refers to how machines and devices are used to solve man’s immediate problems. This means that this technology is deviced to make life easier, faster and in this era, smarter.

Technology has broken grounds in terms of innovation, solution providing, communication etc and as it goes along we’ve become reliant on these machines that makes work so much easier to do. This over dependency on technology, particularly telecommunication devices like smart phone, laptops, television etc, has inadvertently resulted into a series of emotional distress, anxiety, materialism and heightened crime, all stemming from one source; loneliness.

The real question now is “Does technology promote loneliness?” Permit me to use these words… “Hell yeah!” Humans are social beings and as a result, communication is essential in human life and interaction. The advent of technology proved important especially with nifty gadgets introduced to make communications with people at long distances faster. However just like any form of emotional stimulant, these gadgets become highly addictive and something one cannot necessary do without easily. Statistics show that 3.5 billion people (which is 45.12% of the world population) use a smartphone. Now these smart phones are supposed to be tools to aid in the ease in communication.


However, these gadgets have become the very source of loneliness in the world today as people are said to disassociate themselves from human interaction whilst being engrossed in this world of fantasy where anybody can be anybody. Because of lack of interaction with the real world, these individuals who have become so preoccupied with these technological devices, once it’s taken away, they lose a sense of touch with reality ultimately leading to loneliness.

Loneliness further leads to addiction to drugs, alcoholism, and other social vices. Mind you, loneliness has been regarded as the world’s number one cause of psychological trauma and depression. This is because frequent isolation from your natural environment to a digital or erstwhile virtual reality. That alone pretty much messes with the mind and turns out to be a major cause of psychological defect.

Social media hype is one other cause of loneliness. The way at which some people fall for the gimmicks and the antiques of celebrity lifestyle and trying to imitate their celebrity Idols often ends up in failure. To this end, it leaves a mark of trauma on their psyche and they begin to feel dejected and build an inferiority complex when they do not meet up with this social trend. The end product thus is loneliness.

Technology has bettered our lives in ways too numerous to explain. However, whatever has a pro also has a con and in this case, loneliness is a major effect on the inordinate use of this technological devices. If not properly controlled, it (technology) can spiral beyond control.

Therefore, there has to be a balance between how long you make use of your devices and your interaction with the real world so as to maintain a sane an less complicated thought process.

The NBA All-Star MVP award has been officially and permanently changed to The Kobe Bryant MVP Award in honour of the late basketball legend, Kobe Bryant.

This was made known by Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner, yesterday been Saturday, 15th February, 2020. This is what he said;

“Kobe Bryant is synonymous with NBA All-Star and embodies the spirit of this global celebration of our game,” Silver said. “He always relished the opportunity to compete with the best of the best and perform at the highest level for millions of fans around the world.”

The Kobe Bryant MVP Award will be conferred on 16th February, 2020 at the closing stage of the 2020 All-Star Game in Chicago. The both basketball teams will be captained/represented by LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Team Giannis will all wear the jersey No. 24 and Team LeBron will wear the jersey No. 2, the jersey numbers worn and embraced by late basketball legend, Kobe Bryant and his beautiful daughter, Gianna Bryant respectively.

Kobe Bryant has played for a record 18-time in All-Star and has won a joint-record four All-Star Game MVP Awards, the NBA disclosed. He won the All-Star Game MVP Awards in 2002, 2007, 2009 and 2011. Kobe Bryant was also the youngest ever player to participate in an All-Star Game at just the age of 19 back in 1998.

The basketball legend, Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, lost their lives tragically along with seven others in his private helicopter crash on Sunday, 26th January, 2020 before 10am.
