Education / Strike: Again, Federal Govt, ASUU Meets Today by Kazeem330: 3:22pm On Aug 17, 2022
As the federal government and leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) meet today, the union has expressed the hope of calling off the strike if the government meets its demands.

ASUU president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this when he appeared as a guest on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Osodeke said the issues of IPPIS and UTAS had been put to rest and insisted that the government has the capacity to meet the union’s demands.
LEADERSHIP reports that ASUU strike has entered six months without headway so far.
The lecturers in the nation’s public universities embarked on the strike on February 14, 2022 and extended several times because their demands were not met.
The ASUU president also lamented lack of commitment on the part of the government towards ending the strike which has kept students out of school for six months, and said the union’s platform, UTAS, was ready for application.
He said, “When they came with this IPPIS we told them that it cannot accommodate universities and that time the accountant general then, and the person in charge of IPPIS, when we met and finish the discussion and we found out the weakness in IPPIS, they agreed we should have a different solution.
“UTAS is ready and is the best. My happiness today about this strike is that for the first time they have tested IPPIS. It came in 2006 and it was never tested; they have been using it untested.
“I’m Happy that the Minister of communication and digital economy has been able to come out and say that there were multiple errors in IPPIS. Let them release the results it will tell us, UTAS came first in all the payment platforms.

Most students believe that examinations are not necessary, especially the exams they find difficult. This belief is very wrong.

India has the highest number of most difficult examinations in the World. 7 out of the top 20 toughest examinations in the world are conducted in India.

Even though India has a lot of tough exams, South Korea is widely considered the country with the most difficult education system.

South Korea Education System is very stressful and authoritative – Teachers hardly interact with the students, and students are expected to learn everything based on the lectures. Also, admission to college is brutally competitive.

Education / Lowering UTME Cut-off Mark ‘ll Spur Competition, Education Development by Kazeem330: 4:20pm On Aug 10, 2022
Stakeholders in the education sector in the North-East have said that continuous lowering of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) cut-off mark would encourage competition and educational development in the country.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and heads of tertiary institutions of learning and other stakeholders on July 21, adopted 140 cut-off mark for admissions in the 2022/2023 academic session.

The board adopted 140 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education, respectively.

Some of the stakehokders who spoke in Bauchi, Damaturu, Dutse, Gombe, Maiduguri and Yola, described the move as a welcome development, saying it would provide level playing ground for candidates seeking admission into universities and other institutions.

Romance / After The Rock by Kazeem330: 12:22am On Aug 10, 2022
Humans can transform from solid to spirit in about half a second. I just found this out. Just a half-second ago.

I might be shocked if I weren’t so dead.

“Huh,” is all I have to say about it.

“Yep,” my wife agrees, equally shockless.

She is standing beside me along the sun-baked shoulder of a two-lane country highway, and we are both staring down into the drainage ditch. At the bottom are scattered piles of junk — a nasty trail of breadcrumbs — all leading to a battered tomb.

The tomb used to be a car. For a while, it was our car. But that was before the rock.

“How long have we been standing here?” I ask.

“I think…” My wife’s hand becomes a vapor before reforming into fingers. She points at the junk in the ditch. A tire is still spinning.

“…not long.”

Time seems off. I count to five, but can’t tell if five seconds or five hours go by. We point out the broken pieces of what became our soul cocoon, transforming us from flesh into … whatever we are now.
