My dear the feeling is mutual. I will run for an executive position in NUT in my LGA, Abua/Odual. After attending one of the meetings in my LGA, it was obvious that we really need to take up the union structure if we must survive in this job... darkstan: Dear thirteen thousand newly employed teachers, it is high time we start thinking of advocating for our welfare as far as this job is concerned. Whether we like it or not, for now we are teachers and are paid based on Teachers Salary Scale (TSS) irrespective of our qualifications. As far as I am concerned, the Rivers State Wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) are not representing our collective interests.
(1) Our salaries are deducted without notifying us of what the deductions are for. (2) National Housing Fund (NHF) contributions are deducted from our salaries monthly yet our employer has not given us NHF registration forms to fill and submit to the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. How can our contributions be remitted by our employer to Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria when we don't even have accounts with them. (3) Income tax is deducted from our salaries monthly yet our employer has not given us tax returns forms to fill and submit to Rivers State Internal Revenue Service. How do we know that our employer is remitting our tax returns? (4) Contributory pension is deducted from our salaries monthly yet our employer has not paid their own half of the monthly Contributory pension. (5) Since we were employed in 2013 till date, our step has not increased.
In spite of all the above listed shortcomings, Rivers State Wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers collects union dues monthly from our salaries. They are not concerned about our welfare and conditions of service. They are only concerned about sharing the rebate given to them when our monthly union dues are deducted from our salaries. This is a clarion call for the way forward. It is high time we have our representation in the next executives of NUT. We can only achieve this by actively mobilizing and participating in the next NUT elections at both State Wing and LGA levels. We have the majority population to vote in any of our colleagues who contests for any position. The way forward is to unite and have a common front. Thanks for taking time to read this clarion call. More updates loading soon........ |

Iadokiariye: Please on the monthly pay slip all deductions from your salary are there, even the total amount credited to your account is there. Meanwhile the TRCN was responsible for the 3000 naira deduction, hence the officer I collected the payslip from when questioned said Former Governor accredited the 13,000 teachers into a scheme which involves automatic registration with TRCN. Thereby we are expected to request from TRCN to issue us our Registration Certificate and license because they are expected to deduct 6000 nsira from our salaries each year as renewal/dues. God help us. So where is the TRCN office so we could go and request for the certificate and license |

(2) Degama PPSB. (3) Ogu/Bolo UBE (4) Omuma UBE (5) ONELGA PPSB. (6) KELGA PPSB. (7) Akuku Toru UBE. (8 ) Khana UBE. (9) Andoni UBE. (10) Eleme UBE. In all, 18 out of 23 LGA were affected.
They only paid five L.G.A complete, and one board out of two board in 10 L.G.A. They are:
1. PHLGA PPSB/UBE 2. Obiakpor PPSB/UBE 3. Opobo/Nkoro PPSB/UBE 4. Bonny PPSB/UBE 5. Abua/Odua PPSB/UBE. One board out of two board in 10 L.G.A that was paid, were as follow; 1. Emuoha UBE 2. Pls does anyone know where the state NLC and NUT offices are? We need to start preparing for a showdown with the govt if our salaries are not paid b4 school resumes on the 12th of Sept. We have been talking too much on this platform, we need to start preparing ourselves to express our grievances to these unions, the media and all Rivers people. I miss ALUTA days, all teachers who have received salaries should stay away from schools in solidarity with their unpaid colleagues (in the event that the salaries are not paid b4 12th sept). Let us look out for ourselves, the govt can't try this rubbish with doctors or affiliate unions like neupeng. If we don't take our fate in our hands and demand for our right, nobody will speak for us. An injury to one is an injury to all...spread the news |

I was waiting at the SSSB yesterday for info from the director of payroll, as a fallout of the meeting they had with the ministry of finance concerning the delayed salaries. He said the people who are yet to receive their salaries particularly those who filled the incidence form have other issues. He explained that there are no amount figures in their pay column and as such that prevented their payment even as their colleagues in other schools or those who did not fill the incidence form have been paid. He further said, the ICT department is compiling the incidence form people's list to send to the ministry of finance for them to input salary amount figures and then forward it to the Governor for approval before it will return for onward processing to the banks and then payment. I strongly suggest that all those people who filled the incidence forms should proceed to the ministry of finance latest Monday next week as a group or by schools to mount pressure and follow up on the process so u don't get paid with the pensioners in 3 months time. Avoid stories that touch... |

NeilOssai: ...WELL SAID!!....... going to school does not mean one is learned....Some exhibit illiteracy by their writing, some by their actions, some by their attitude.. Apologies to you Mr neilossai, sorry if my utterances hurt you. But I still think that haven waited these 5 months and finally captured, I don't have to wait till July ends and then give wike extra one month before I start complaining about my unpaid salaries. Also, the commissioner is claiming that all who have been captured have been paid all arrears, while the truth is no SSSB teacher has been paid even after completing the biometric exercise. If we don't talk and let the world know that we haven't paid, they will term us as ghost workers and subsequently disengage people without pay. So folks try and listen to radio programmes, our salary issue is always talked about, call in and contribute. Nigerian info 92.3, Today FM 95.1, Wazobia FM 94.1, etc |

With all these things that are happening to teachers, the NUT is not saying or doing anything to help us get our pay even after weeks of biometrics. I think soon we would have to form our own NUT to protect our interest or we run for NUT elections and replace those officers that are non-chalant about our plight. They take almost N2000 monthly from our salaries as union dues yet they can't stand up for us |
