Politics / I Do Not Fear Buhari, Osinbajo Is My Main Problem – President Jonathan by kediG: 9:21pm On Jan 20, 2015

Ruffled by the momentum generated by the nomination of Pastor Yemi Osinbajo as General Mohamadu Buhari’s running mate, President Goodluck Jonathan is asking a group of Pentecostal pastors to help him avert what he fears could be an impending loss in next month’s presidential polls.
Bishop David Oyedepo led the Pentecostal pastors to the meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan ,Osinbajo, a prominent cleric with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, law professor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN emerged APC’s presidential running mate last month giving President Jonathan and the ruling party, PDP, what is being described as sleepless nights, by sources.
Specifically last Thursday, the President held a meeting in Abuja, with a number of Pentecostal pastors led by Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, with the main agenda being how to fashion out ways to solve the “Osinbajo” problem.
Sources at the meeting confirmed that President Jonathan confessed in a rather rattled and humbling manner that “Osinbajo is my problem.”
According to those at the meeting, the President added that “everything was okay until APC picked Osinbajo.”
This is coming against the background of wild speculations that APC is an Islamist party and that General Buhari is a religious fundamentalist-which has become one of the main planks of the PDP presidential campaign. While PDP chieftains and supporters have continued to characterize APC as an Islamist party, APC leaders have consistently dismissed such as unfounded, baseless and a scare tactic by the PDP.
Many observers say the nomination of a prominent Pentecostal pastor from the fastest growing church in Africa by the APC may have effectively doused such speculations and the attempt to label the party as one with an islamization agenda.
There has been a rather conscious attempt to make next month’s presidential polls a religious one especially in the Southern part of the country where there is a much larger Christian population, observers say.
At the meeting organized by the Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) John Kennedy Okpara, President Jonathan poured out his mind that running against a leading Pastor of the RCCG, who is also known to be very close to the much reverred General Overseer of the church, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, is an uphill task.
Sources at the meeting, said Jonathan was ruffled and much distracted as he confessed to the challenge to him, of the APC naming such a person as Osinbajo as General Buhari’s running mate.

Before the meeting with the President, sources said the pastors held a meeting on the same day to strategize and agree on how and what they would present to the president.
At that pre-meeting, some Pentecostal pastors suggested that they use the opportunity of the meeting afforded by the President to express their genuine fears on growing insecurity in the North with Boko Haram killing and attacking Christians and other innocent Nigerians.
But Bishop David Oyedepo, the most influential pastor at the meeting interrupted the idea, insisting that the meeting was to encourage and strengthen President Jonathan ahead of the elections and not to discuss compelling national issues of concern to majority of Nigerians.

Nairaland / General / Opportunity! Linda Ikeji’s ‘i’d Rather Be Self-made’ N10million Grant Beging by kediG: 6:47am On Jan 19, 2015

In 2013, I told y’all that I’m going to start something called ‘I’d Rather Be Self-made’… where I will personally mentor young girls with dreams and aspirations and help some of them start up small scale businesses. I’ve been procrastinating for over a year & a half and now I am finally ready to do this.
‘I’d Rather Be Self-made’ is not a foundation, or an organization (I can’t handle that – blogging takes too much of my time), it’s just me and some young ladies meeting whenever we can, inspire each other, exchange business ideas, and if I feel someone has a great business idea and it’s not going to cost too much to start the business, I will personally finance it. Not as a loan, it’s 100% to the person. I’m looking at N250k to N1million per person, depending on how great the business idea is. If you need less, you will get the money faster…:-). I’ll also use LIB to promote your businesses. All I want in return is for you to work hard, make a success of your business and pay it forward…i.e help others. And if you ever see me on the street after you make it, you can say hello or give me a hug…:-)
What prompted me to think of doing this is my own story and the lifestyle of some young girls. It’s quite unfortunate and sad. I went to University of Lagos, I was once a model and a model manager, so I have seen some things girls do for money and it breaks my heart. Some, if I told you, you will never believe. And now that I can afford to help a few girls, I am willing to help with my own money. The aim of ‘I’d Rather Be Self-made’ is to reduce ‘Aristorism’ by at least 1%…:-). Please continue…
So I’m putting aside N10million for this – to start with – and release more money if everything goes well.
If you’re between 18 and 26, female (sorry guys – want to concentrate on the women for now), you are looking for inspiration, you want to start a business and need financing or already have a business but need more money to expand, or you just need business advice, then come and let’s do this.

Obviously, I can’t help everyone. It’s not possible. But I will help as many young women as I can – this is something I plan to do for as long as I can – so hopefully, many of you will benefit.
I’m interested in girls who have vowed not to sell their bodies to make it in life (because you really don’t. All that ‘I don’t have a choice’ is BS. Trust me, I’ve tasted poverty like some of you will never know and I never did). I’m also interested in girls who are living that lifestyle right now but would rather not, and want out desperately.
You’re going to personally meet with me and other inspiring Nigerian women who made it on their own without ever having to lie on their backs. Trust me, there are many of us. You can be one too, so let’s do this.
We are going to meet this weekend for the first time. So if you’re interested, please call 07051229040. But let me repeat this. I can’t help everyone. It’s not possible. But I promise to help as many as I can. I definitely want to do this because I want to give back…God doesn’t bless you for you alone or your family, he gives us so we can pay forward and touch as many lives as we can with his blessings. That’s my belief, so I’m really excited to do this.

Nairaland / General / Woman Dies Hours After Giving Birth To Quadruplets by kediG: 8:44am On Jan 18, 2015

A 36 year old woman named Erica Morales (pictured) died hours after giving birth on Thursday Jan. 15th to quadruplets in a Phoenix hospital.
Erica Morales was about seven months pregnant when she delivered the babies — three girls and a boy — at Banner Good Samaritan hospital, Nicole Todman, a family friend, told the news organization.
But she died before ever getting a chance to see the babies she and her husband had long hoped for, Todman said.
Morales initially went to the hospital for high blood pressure, according to Todman, who added she was unsure of how exactly her friend died.
The hospital would not provide that information, the AP reported.

In the wake of Morales’ death, Todman has started a GoFundMe to raise money for the family.
She said on the page that Morales and her husband, Carlos, had tried for year to have a baby. Morales finally became pregnant last year with the help of doctors.
The goal of the GoFundMe page, according to Todman, was to ease the financial worries for the family and to give Carlos “all the help he can get.”
All donations would go “to provide for the beautiful babies Erica fought so hard to have and in the end gave her life for,” she wrote.

Politics / Why Are Nigerians Forced To Choose Between Jonathan & Buhari – Says Etcetera by kediG: 2:45pm On Jan 17, 2015

In Nigeria, there are three classes of people: The Masses, The Politicians, and The Rich. The masses are the puppets,
the politicians the hand that controls the puppets and the rich the hand that controls the politicians. The politicians have the system totally rigged in their favour.
They have made it compulsory for the masses to vote from a list selected by them knowing that as blind as the masses are, they may never realise they can actually have a choice. In the upcomingpresidential election, the masses have been given no choice but to choose between two candidates forced upon them by the politicians.
What if Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan are not exactly what the masses want? Are we going to have recourse when they fail as they always do, to honour their promises?
There seems to be a spot in every Nigerian, a soft spot in our consciousness like the one in a baby’s head, which, if
pressed or stroked in the right way, reduces us to giggling children with mouths full of candy. That spot is what I call a “Mumu Button.” And any person that finds and presses that mumu button in Nigerians is on the road to wealth and power. As a youth, my faith in this nation is disappearing like a fart in a wind storm.
I have seen that even the most intelligent and educated Nigerians, when you press their mumu button, they turn into docile drooling puppy dogs, panting happily. Obviously, every politician in this country understands this, but for some reason, the masses don’t. My mumu button has been pressed many times too, but unlike many people, mine has become calloused due to misuse and abuse. But since I realised what the politicians are, they can’t press my mumu button anymore.
I see politicians as conmen, I see them like those Ebonyi State boys trying to sell fake wrist watches to me in traffic, I see them like pastors. They are always too eager to sell their plans and schemes, to convince us that their government will bring “change,” and if we support their candidates, we will be led out of the darkness into light. And somehow in every election, an amazing number of us fall for it. We keep buying the scam over and over.

With Buhari and Jonathan, we have again swallowed the same con hook, line, sinker, rod, reel, creel, boat, motor, and even the river, down our throats like a starving dog would gulp a piece of rotten meat without sniffing it first. Why does Buhari want to be president so badly? Who is really financing Goodluck Jonathan’s N21 billion campaign and at what cost to the nation if he gets reelected? When will the masses pull their numbers on the streets and demand for the simple things of life?
Are we ever going to stop rolling over our backs with our legs wide open like a prostitute waiting for her customer? With everything we see in the media, to be a successful politician depends on talk, or more precisely, smooth talk. The masses love smooth talk. It lulls us into some kind of euphoric state. With smooth talks, they have convinced most Nigerians that night is day, bad is good, and most recently, stealing is not the same as corruption.

Sports / Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks-up With Russian Model Girlfriend, Irina Shayk by kediG: 10:21am On Jan 16, 2015

Since they started dating back in 2010, it used to be a culture that the pair attend the Ballon D’Or event together or any other major get-together with where the Real Madrid star was to attend.
Irina Shayk was with Ronaldo last year when he won the FIFA Player of the Year, she celebrated with him on the stage and through Social Media but the Russian model was conspicuously missing from the award night on Monday.
Specualtions were that they had broken up but her camp said that she was not available due to‘work commitments’, however, Ms Shayk was said to be on a holiday in the Maldives and even posted Instagram photos on the day of the Ballon D’Or awards.

“[The Ballon d’Or] didn’t fit in with her schedule – it was because of work commitments. We have no further comment to make,”her PR company said.
Ronaldo’s camp is yet to say anything about the pending matter but the story may not be far from the truth with emerging reports that the Model fell out with Ronaldo’s mother during the Christmas period over plans on how to spend the season with the family.
There’ve been no words of congratulations from the model since Monday when Ronaldo won the FIF

Politics / Don’t Come To Bayelsa, Bayelsa Youths Tell Patience Jonathan by kediG: 8:38am On Jan 16, 2015

Some concerned youths in Bayelsa State, under the auspices of the Bayelsa Youth Vanguard, have threatened to disrupt the Peoples Democratic Party presidential rally if President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience, comes with her husband for the campaign.
From Punch
The rally is slated for February 5 at the state capital, Yenagoa.
The organisation therefore warned Patience not to accompany her husband to the presidential campaign.
It accused her of causing crisis in the state and warned her to desist from that or face the consequences.
The warning, the group said, was sequel to what it described as attempts by the President’s wife to destabilise the state and fuel needless crisis and political tension in the state.
The spokesperson for the BYV, Precious Ebi Johnson, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, said that Patience would only be allowed to come to the state “unless she retraced her steps or otherwise we will mobilise against the President’s rally.”
The statement read in part, “We are constrained to issue this statement to bar the President’s wife from accompanying President Goodluck Jonathan to Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, for the presidential rally on February 5.
“Our action is well informed by the various steps and activities of the President’s wife in recent times which portend clear danger for the good health of our dear state.

“We note with regret the various attempts by the President’s wife to create crisis in the state through subterfuge or using surrogates.
“As things are, we want to make it very clear to her that she has to change this attitude or we go against her coming to Yenagoa with the President for the presidential campaign.
“Indeed, we may be forced to mobilise against the entire rally.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we want to state clearly that we love our dear president. President Goodluck Jonathan is our own even when we have to add that we have not really benefited from his administration as expected.
“We dare say the President should not come to Bayelsa with his wife if she continues to fuel crisis and destabilise the state for no just reason except for selfish reasons. This is not Rivers State and we won’t allow it to happen.”
He said that the youths of Bayelsa would not allow Patience to step her foot into Bayelsa soil unless she retraced her steps.
Johnson said it would be wrong to assume that they were sponsored by anyone to issue the warning.
The statement added, “We want to further state that we are not sponsored by anybody but certainly cannot just stand by and allow our peaceful state to be dragged to the mud, as she did in Rivers State.
“We are no fools. The President’s wife cannot come to our state to dictate to us who to support and vote for.
“We are matured enough to know what is good for us. Nobody should come and bribe our poor mothers and women with expired bags of rice and some money in the name of politics to mislead our people.”

Politics / My Generation Has Failed Nigerians – Jonathan by kediG: 6:43am On Jan 09, 2015

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday described the blame game embarked upon by past leaders of the country about its under-development as a cheap escape route, saying the truth of the matter is that his generation has failed the country. Jonathan who spoke at the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign flag-off held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, challenged the ex- rulers of the country to explain what they did with the defence budgets when they were power. The president, whose address dwelt mainly on reactions to allegations against his government, said he was only concerned about younger Nigerians who, he said, were being fed with lies peddled by the ex-leaders he did not mention their names. He said the ex-leaders lacked the moral rectitude to accuse his government of corruption when, during their tenures, they frittered away money meant for procurement of arms for the armed forces without buying a single gun. Flanked by the chairman of the party Aliyu Mua’zu, Vice President Sambo Namadi, Senate President David Mark, deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, serving PDP governors, and aspirants that got their party flags for the forthcoming elections, amongst other prominent chieftains of the party, said Nigeria’s leadership is no longer for old and senile people lacking in vibrant ideas. “I want to address people who are voting for the first time this year, those of you who attained 18 this year. I don’t want to address old people like me because we are spent. I am going to address political gatherings in 37 places and I am going to dwell on three major things; whatever I say, when you get back home, call your parents, aunties, uncles that are at least 60 years old and confirm what you heard. “2015 elections is about the young people; either you vote for the young Nigerians to be relevant in Nigeria political history or you vote for you to be irrelevant. I want to dwell on three things because those who say they want to take over power from the PDP have been telling a lot of lies; they have hired people from all over the world to tell all sorts of lies on the social media, painting all kinds of colour and giving me all kinds of bait they cannot defend. “I will address insecurity, corruption and insinuations of weak government. On voter cards, I have directed INEC that all Nigerians – not 99.9 per cent – must vote. Before 2011, no Nigerian complained that he had no voter card, but we came and insisted that every Nigerian must express themselves at the polls; since then voter cards became relevant. The president fired an apparent salvo at the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) which was two days ago accused by the DSS of trying to fake the voter cards. Jonathan continued: “Already, some people are cloning cards so that your voter cards will not be relevant; is that the kind of people you want to take over government? They want to take us back to the old days where nobody sees voter cards but results were announced. They want to take us back to the old days where ballot papers will be in South Africa and results will be announced in Nigeria.” On insecurity, the president accused past leaders, including his direct opponent Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), of weakening the country’s armed forces by starving them of the necessary arms despite funds provided for that. “They talked about insecurity – that they will fight insecurity; are our armed forces weak? If we have a problem, what is the cause? It’s equipment. They don’t have the platform. Somebody will wake up and tell young people of 23-year-old that he wants to fight insecurity; ask him, when he was the head of government, did he buy one rifle for the Nigerian soldier? “They refused to equip the military; they didn’t buy anything, no helicopter, nothing. Ask them what they did with their defence budget the whole time that they were in office; they didn’t equip. No country equips armed forces overnight because their equipment is quite expensive. Armed forces are built over the years; the capacity is built over a period of time. They refused to build the capacity. They instigated crisis and now they are coming to tell us they will solve the problem. Ask them and they will answer.” On the charge that his government was soft on corruption, Jonathan said that more people have been quizzed over the offence of corruption than he is given credit. He said: “I addressed the anti-corruption agencies yesterday (Wednesday) and I told them that people are deceiving young Nigerians, but they must tell Nigerians what the government is doing. “We have arrested more people within this period. We have done more convictions within this period, but every day they tell us lies. If they had succeeded in fighting corruption, it won’t be with us today. There is no corruption in the fertilizer industry again because of the electronic wallet technique that we developed.” “If anyone says the best way to fight corruption is to come and arrest your uncle and father and present them on television, you don’t stop corruption that way; you even encourage it that way. We must set up institutions, strengthen them to prevent people from even touching the money. You don’t test people with money, don’t even allow them to touch it. That is what we are working on, and we are succeeding. “They said the military is corrupt, but when this insecurity came up, we had nothing (no arms). So, to get these things quickly, we used vendors to get these procurements, but now what we are doing is government-to-government. Any new procurement for the Navy, Army, Air Force, is government-to-government.” Okah was hired to kill me -President Jonathan also used the occasion to disclose that the leader of Movement For Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) Henry Okah was hired by certain individuals to kill him. He said, “ I read in one newspaper headline that MEND dumped Jonathan? Did you read it ? I am from the Niger Delta, the leader of MEND is one Okah . Okah is in South African prison. Why is Okah in South African prison because it is not in Nigeria if it was in Nigeria they will say the president manipulated it. “Okah is in South African prison because 1st October , 2010 during the celebration of Nigeria 50th year independent. Okah was procured by someone in Nigeria to assassinate me and Okah bombed Abuja. The South African intelligent system and Nigeria intelligent system roped him in that plan to assassinate me and he is now in jail in South Africa.

Politics / Henry Okah Was Paid To Kill Me – Jonathan Says by kediG: 6:31am On Jan 09, 2015

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday stated that the estranged leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) Henry Okah was paid to assassinate him when he masterminded bomb attacks within the premises where Nigeria was celebrating its 50 years independence anniversary.
The President stated this at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos in a PDP rally where he predicated his statement on a headline he read in a national daily which read that MEND dumps Jonathan.
According to him, the leader of MEND was one Okah who is currently imprisoned alongside his wife in South Africa. He said his trial was in South Africa and not in Nigeria where one can say it is manipulated by the President. ”Now the same Okah who is in jail abroad is now endorsing some people through his group,” Jonathan said.

Jonathan then asked; ”Is this the kind of Nigeria you want where a group like MEND will be endorsing party candidates?” To this, the crowd he was addressing yelled: ” No!”
DAILY POST however recalls that at the time when the 2010 bombing happened at the precincts of Eagles Square Abuja while the 50th anniversary was underway, President Jonathan wasted no time in absolving MEND from any complicity in the attack.
He had also been reported to have stated in several fora that the main rights group in Nigeria’s Niger Delta had been disbanded.

Nairaland / General / How 22yr Old Nigerian Student Died In Police Custody In The US by kediG: 6:00am On Jan 09, 2015

22yr old Nigerian college student Matthew Ajibade, (pictured) died in police custody and his family wants to know more about what led to his jail death.
CNN reports…
Matthew died in an isolation cell, after he “became combative during the booking process,” according to a release from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office in Savannah, Georgia. During the altercation, officials say, three deputies were injured, including a female sergeant who suffered a concussion and broken nose.

That doesn’t square with family members’ description of the 22-year-old, whom they described as a much-loved “geeky kid.”The Nigeria native was in Savannah studying computer science.
Ajibade’s family has hired Mark O’Mara, a CNN legal analyst who once represented George Zimmerman in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. The attorney hopes to see “discourse of all available information as soon as possible,” he told CNN on Tuesday.
Ajibade was diagnosed with bipolar disorder three years ago and was having a medical emergency at the time of his arrest and confinement, O’Mara said.
Savannah police arrested Ajibade on January 1 after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance.
When police arrived, they witnessed Ajibade holding a woman under a blanket, according to an incident report. Police uncovered the two and noticed that the woman’s “face was bruised, and her nose was bleeding,” the report says.
Officers ordered Ajibade to release the woman, but he did not comply, the report says, adding that when police tried to arrest Ajibade he proceeded to “resist apprehension in a violent manner.”
He was accused of domestic violence act, battery and obstruction of an officer. “The sergeant is still on medical leave. The other two remain on duty status,” said Chief Deputy Roy Harris.
A woman who he identified as his girlfriend tried to inform police of his mental health issues, O’Mara said.
“She also gave police a bottle of his medication,” the attorney told CNN.
The police report notes that officers received a prescription bottle from the alleged victim, but the name of the prescription has been redacted.
Once at the jail, officials say, Ajibade had to be restrained, during which he injured the three officers. He was then moved to an isolation cell due to his “dangerous behavior,” a police news release says.

Politics / Femi Fani-kayode Comes For Buhari… by kediG: 9:48pm On Jan 03, 2015

Chief Femi fani-Kayode posted a message on his facebook page taunting the presidential aspirant of the APC and give another portion to the party. Recently the battle of words has been reinforced and each time these two parties, of course FFK is GEJ/PDP’s aid (for now).
In his statement he said, “Asking Muhammadu Buhari to preside over the affairs of Nigeria is like asking Count Dracula to watch over the maiden. It is like asking the wolf to protect little red riding hood. It is like asking the tiger to watch over the lamb. It is like asking the snake to protect the child. This nation is moving forward and not backwards.”

Crime / Moment Girl Gang Beat Up Man’s Girlfriend, Humiliate And Shaved Her Head by kediG: 9:32pm On Jan 03, 2015

A teen in Ohio says she was ambushed by six women who took turns brutally beating her on Christmas Eve — then spread photos and videos of the attack on social media to humiliate her.
Cheyanne Willis, 19, says she was pulling into the parking lot of a suburban Cincinnati mall with her then boyfriend, Quincy Gardner, when he parked and pulled her out of the car. A group of six women, including two she knows, was waiting for her and allegedly took turns kicking and beating Willis, slamming her face on a car hood and shaving her head…
Online footage shows Cheyanne Willis being visciously attacked by a group of women on Christmas Eve …below…

Willis is heard pleading and crying in a video of the incident while others in the group shout angrily, according to the station.
The attackers wrote ‘I got my a** whopped’ on her forehead with eyeliner and signed their names, the video shows.

Politics / I’m Coming Up With Anti-corruption Plan – President Jonathan Says by kediG: 9:39pm On Jan 02, 2015

Speaking during a special New Year service at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre, in Abuja yesterday January 1st, President Jonathan said his administration is coming up with plans and programmes to fight corruption in Nigeria. What he said below…
“There are two main problems confronting us as a nation: The issue of insecurity in the North where we have the Boko Haram terrorists and in the South where we have commercial kidnapping. The next thing that people worry about after security is the issue of corruption. We are coming out with programmes and plans to clean up. These are things that you don’t just use a magical wand to wave off, otherwise even before I became the President, there wouldn’t have been corruption in Nigeria.

“It is not just about shouting corruption. It is not about looking at one person, arrest the person and show him on television. It is about strengthening institutions and coming up with credible plans to make sure that anybody who gets involved with corruption, the system must have a way of detecting him and punishing him.
“Until you put such a system on ground, you cannot talk about eradicating corruption, you will just be celebrating corruption. You would have noticed that from Christmas to New Year, at least, it has been calm. It did not happen by accident.
“It happened because you have been praying for this country and the government has also been doing something. We do not need to announce what we are doing. With your prayers, we will surely get there. We will continue to come up with programmes that will help the ordinary people.
“The same way we won the war against Ebola, we shall win the terror war. 2015 is a turning point because of the elections. Some people will not mind if half of the country get burnt because of their ambition.
“I always say that we must have a country first, we must have a people first before talking about ambition. We must pray that God should give us the wisdom to do things with some decorum and we should not compromise the lives of the people for ambition.
“I always say that my ambition and the ambition of any politician for that matter, is not worth the blood of the smallest Nigerian.”

Politics / Maku Insists Governorship Ambition In 2015 Intact by kediG: 9:27pm On Jan 01, 2015

Mr Labaran Maku, the immediate past Minister of Information, on Thursday, said that his ambition to contest in the 2015 governorship election in Nasarawa State is intact.
The former minister said this while delivering his New Year Message at St. Williams Cathedral, Lafia.
Maku said that in spite of what happened recently at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election, he was still moving on with his ambition to contest in the 2015 governorship election.
He disclosed that the Appeal Panel had yet to respond to the petition he submitted to it on the outcome of the state’s governorship primaries conducted by the PDP.

“I want to assure my supporters that no amount of conspiracy by a few people will stop me from contesting the 2015 general elections”, he said.
He advised the electorate not to vote for candidates on religious or ethnic basis, but to choose those with dispositions to tackle the challenges confronting the state.
He urged all his supporters to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, even though he might not contest on the platform of PDP.
The former minister said Jonathan deserved a second term because of what he had done in transforming all the sectors of the nation’s economy.
Maku said “Jonathan is the best President this country has ever produced”.
While calling on his supporters to remain law abiding, he said he would, in a matter of days, unveil his new platform to the public. (NAN)

Politics / A New Year Message To Nigeria’s Youth From Buhari by kediG: 10:00pm On Dec 31, 2014

…and here’s Gen. Buhari’s New Year message to Nigerian youths…
As we welcome the year 2015, I have shared a message to Nigerians in general, but I find it crucial to send another message directly to Nigeria’s youth, who are the major stakeholders of this enterprise. The year 2014 was a challenging one for most citizens of our dear country.
We remember our compatriots who were brutishly killed or maimed by evil terrorists in 2014. I remember with a still broken heart that 219 of our children from Chibok are yet missing, let down by a country that should protect them. I remember that, even as I speak, some of our towns and villages are yet under the occupation of Boko Haram.
Yes, it is enough for you to despair. It is enough for you to wonder if your country cares about you and can protect you. But do not despair.
2015 has arrived at a time of great discomfort; but the beauty of the New Year is that we can look forward with renewed hope and the knowledge that things can and will change.
In Nigeria’s case, we can truly look forward to the change that the elections can, and will, bring. Our country will be secure again. Our country will prosper again.
I have faith that 2015 is the year we shall begin to write a new story – a story of our youth creating jobs and expanding the frontiers of innovation and creativity everywhere from Mavin Records to the Co-Creation Hub; a story of genuine investment in our children and students be they in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka or in the Delta State University, Abraka; a country that finally makes a permanent shift from our debilitating dependence on the free-falling price of crude oil.
I have unshakeable faith that 2015 will be the year of change.
Now some of you have asked me: what exactly does ‘change’ mean?
I have taken time to explain this at different opportunities, but on this special day, let me remind you in five short statements.

Change means:
A country that you can be proud of at anytime and anywhere: where corruption is tackled, where your leaders are disciplined and lead with vision and clarity; where the stories that emerge to the world from us are full of hope and progress.
A Nigeria in which neither yourselves, nor your parents, families or friends will have to fear for your safety, or for theirs.
A Nigeria where citizens get the basics that any country should provide: infrastructure that works, healthcare that is affordable, even free; respect for the environment and sustainable development, education that is competitive and outcome-oriented in a knowledge-economy.
A country that provides jobs for its young people, reducing unemployment to the lowest of single digits and providing safety nets so that no one is left behind.
A Nigeria where entrepreneurship thrives, enterprise flourishes and the government gets out of your way so that you can create value, build the economy and aggressively expand wealth.
Are these things truly possible? Of course. That is the essence and outcome of leadership, and that is what my party and I promise you as we get into 2015.
My dear friends, this New Year, more than ever before, I am hopeful about Nigeria.
Yes, you are disappointed and you are angry, as you are entitled to, but you must never give in to the temptation to feel so weighed down by those who have failed you that you lose your hope and your energy and your passion to see change. You must never give up on Nigeria.
Together, we can build a nation that is secure, prosperous and gives everyone a fair chance.
This is the promise that 2015 holds. That is the promise that change will bring. That is the promise that I bring to you.
Once again, I wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.
Thank you and God bless Nigeria.

Nairaland / General / Read What Mother Of The Transgender Teen Who Killed Herself Wrote On Facebook by kediG: 9:34pm On Dec 31, 2014

17 year old Leelah (Josh) Alcorn committed suicide on Sunday December 28th by walking in front of a tractor trailer and left a suicide note before he died. But when her mum reacted to her death on Facebook, she wrote something that many folks in the gay/transgender world are very upset about. First the mother said she was 16 when Leelah wrote she was 17. Carla called her Joshua instead of the name she’d given herself, Leelah and she also refused to acknowledge that Leelah had committed suicide instead she wrote that she was hit by a trailer. Meaning that she still doesn’t accept who Leelah was as a person even after she committed suicide. After the backlash, Carla deleted the post and removed herself from Facebook. Leelah Alcorn blamed his suicide on his Christian parents…

Politics / Ex-icpc Boss Said About Jonathan And Corruption by kediG: 8:21am On Dec 31, 2014

A former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Justice Mustapha Akanbi and the Chairman, Anti-Corruption Commission, Nigerian Bar Association, Mallam Yusuf Ali (SAN) have said that the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration is not serious in the fight against corruption.
The two decried the increasing rate of corruption in the country, saying nothing tangible and substantial was being done to address the trend.
They spoke in interviews with journalists on the sidelines of the public lecture on “Corruption – the bane of our society,” organised by the Amicus International Club in Ilorin , the
Kwara State captal, on Tuesday.
According to PUNCH, Akanbi, who is a former President of the Court of Appeal said corruption, kidnapping and other societal ills were on the increase in the country and that government institutions and the judiciary were not helping in curbing corruption.
Akanbi said, “Honestly, I do not see what is being done about corruption now. I ask myself these questions: Does it mean that all the governors are corruption-free? Does it mean all the legislators are corruption-free? Does it mean the judiciary is corruption free?
We know that it is happening but people are not being arrested, no action is being taken and the end result is that people accept bribe with impunity now.

“At least, if they had taken few people to court, we would have known that something is being done. There is a general lull and the fight against corruption has gone down completely.
“Now, when you look at many people wanting to be
governors, is it because they want to serve their people or that they want to go and chop?
It is apparent that many of them want to enrich themselves because they know that when you go there you make money and become wealthy, ditto going to the legislature. Yet people are suffering; there is no development. Corruption, kidnapping and other ills of the society have gone on the ascendency.
“Honestly, in case of the governors, who have been
arrested?
We know about Oduahgate and the billions of naira that Sanusi alleged was missing. The terrible thing is that the judiciary is not helping.
“The indices are that the moments are dark, the clouds have thickened, corruption is escalating.”
Ali said that Jonathan’s administration was not fighting corruption at all and urged Nigerians to know that corruption makes all the citizens poorer in the short and long run.
He said, “I have said this long time ago, there is no drive against corruption by the current government and that is quite obvious because the President believes that there is no corruption in Nigeria. He believes that what is going on is petty stealing.
Hev continued; “So, if he doesn’t believe there is corruption, you can’t hold him for not driving any anti-corruption war. If somebody doesn’t believe there is a problem then he would not be obliged to look for solution.”

Shocking eye witness accounts of what happened…culled from UK Daily Mail

At first, the children thought it was just a drill. Then the screaming began. As the pupils poring over their books realised the bangs they could hear were the sounds of guns fired in anger, panic spread.
As Pakistani special forces engaged the attackers, harrowing eyewitness accounts of the massacre emerged from survivors.
By 10.15, at least 60 pupils were already dead as hundreds of Pakistani soldiers poured from lorries to seal off the area and take the battle to the Taliban fighters, all of whom were wearing suicide vests.
One 15-year-old student Shahrukh Khan, who was shot in both legs, told how he hid under a bench and played dead to avoid being killed by the insurgents.
Speaking from his bed in the trauma ward of the city’s Lady Reading Hospital, the teenager told how he even shoved a tie in his mouth to stop him from screaming out in fear of the gunmen.
Khan described how, after they burst in shouting ‘Allah-o-Akbar’ – which means ‘God is greatest’ – one of them shouted: ‘There are so many children beneath the benches, go and get them’.
He said: ‘I saw a pair of big black boots coming towards me, this guy was probably hunting for students hiding beneath the benches.’
Khan said he felt searing pain as he was shot in both his legs just below the knee.
He decided to play dead, adding: ‘I folded my tie and pushed it into my mouth so that I wouldn’t scream.
‘The man with big boots kept on looking for students and pumping bullets into their bodies. I lay as still as I could and closed my eyes, waiting to get shot again.
‘My body was shivering. I saw death so close and I will never forget the black boots approaching me — I felt as though it was death that was approaching me.’
Khan told how he tried to get up, but fell because of his injuries. Desperate to escape to safety, he crawled into the next room, where he the body of the school’s office assistant body on fire.
He said: ‘She was sitting on the chair with blood dripping from her body as she burned.’
Khan, who said he also saw the body of a soldier who worked at the school, then crawled behind a door to hide, where he lost consciousness.
He added: ‘One of my teachers was crying, she was shot in the hand and she was crying in pain.
‘One terrorist then walked up to her and started shooting her until she stopped making any sound. All around me my friends were lying injured and dead.’
A 10-year-old boy caught up in the massacre also spoke of his dramatic escape from Taliban gunmen as bullets whizzed past his head – having seen two of his classmates shot dead in front of him.
Irfan Shah told how he was sitting in his class at 10:30 when he heard the sound of firing outside.
Shah told MailOnline: ‘It was our social studies period. Our teacher first told us that some kind of drill was going on and that we do not need to worry. It was very intense firing. Then the sound came closer. Then we heard cries. One of our friends open the window of the class.
‘He started weeping as there were several school fellows lying on the ground outside the class.
‘Everybody was in panic. Two of our class fellows ran outside class in panic. They were shot in front of us.’
He said that the teacher asked the children, part of a class of 33, to run towards the back gate of the school.
He said: ‘I heard about it around 11 at my college. Then my uncle gave me a call and asked me to reach the school to check the whereabouts of my young cousins. One is seven and other is nine. It took me more than 45 minutes to reach the spot as army closed down all the roads and streets leading to school.’
He said that went to the main gate of the school around 12:30.
He continued: ‘I saw a few soldiers trying to encircle a young man who was wearing a similar uniform to them. When soldiers tried to approach him, there was a huge blast. The other guy was one of the terrorists. This was such a horrible scene.
‘For a few moments, I couldn’t understand what was going on. I saw his body parts flying in the air after the blast. One of the soldiers was badly injured.’
Khan also saw terrorists firing indiscriminately in the class rooms on the second floor of the building.
He said: ‘It is a huge double story building. I saw a terrorist getting into a classroom and firing like anything. Then I heard the cries and most of those crying became silent after a few minutes which means either they died or fainted.’
A soldier told him that the kids who had successfully managed to get out of school were in a nearby park.
He added: ‘I went there but couldn’t find my cousins among those kids. A soldier on told me that they might have died in the attack. I could not even imagine that. After, a few minutes I saw the elder one coming towards the park. I was never so happy and relieved to see him. He was weeping and shivering with fear. I held him to my chest. It was great feeling.
‘Five minutes after him, my younger cousin also appeared. I lost my senses in happiness after seeing him. Our family is blessed. I saw mothers and fathers crying like mad at the gate of the school. I do not believe that we are so blessed.’
Mohammad Muneeb told how his 14-year-old brother Muhammad Shaheer was shot dead in front of him as 200 children sat in an auditorium, getting training in first aid.
‘Two guards were there, sitting on the desk at the front, when four people wearing black uniform ran in. They just started firing. First they targeted the brigadier and his guards, the two guards were killed.
‘The brigadier managed to get away safely and they started firing at the students.
‘I saw my own brother die, he was shot in the throat.’
A school volunteer who did not want to be named described the auditorium shooting: ‘I was working with the other organisations. What I saw was indescribable. I was in the auditorium when they burst in, it was 1030 when they broke in to the school. There was a function in the auditorium, they just opened fire on everyone. They just started firing and shooting violently with AK47s.
‘There was around 200 children in the auditorium, all boys.’
Father Muhammad Dahir, a computer engineer, said: ‘I am so sad, I cannot explain my feelings. I cannot speak. There are dead bodies everywhere. This city is filled with dead bodies. I cannot explain my feelings. What kind of horror are we involved in? We are in the frontline here. Everyone is pushing us, the Americans, our own government.’
Pharmacist Ahmed Salman, whose 15-year-old son was killed, said: ‘I took my son to school this morning and I was at work when someone told me there was firing in the school. I went there and saw children being taken out in ambulances. I was searching but I could not find him. My younger brother called me and told me that Ahmed’s body was lying in the mortuary of the military hospital.
‘He had a bullet in his lungs.’
Mudassar Abbas, a physics laboratory assistant at the school, said some students were celebrating at a party when the attack began.
‘I saw six or seven people walking class-to-class and opening fire on children,’ he said.
Mudassir Awan, an employee at the school, said he saw at least six people scaling the walls of the building, but initially thought little of it.
‘We thought it must be the children playing some game. But then we saw a lot of firearms with them,’ he said.
‘As soon as the firing started, we ran to our classrooms. They were entering every class and they were killing the children,’ he added.
One of the wounded students, Abdullah Jamal, said he was with a group of 8th, 9th and 10th graders who were getting first-aid instructions and training with a team of Pakistani army medics when the attack began.
When the shooting started, Mr Jamal, who was shot in the leg, said nobody knew what was going on in the first few seconds.
‘Then I saw children falling down who were crying and screaming. I also fell down. I learned later that I have got a bullet,’ he said, speaking from his hospital bed.
‘All the children had bullet wounds. All the children were bleeding,’ he added.
Akhtar Ali, who works out for the UN, was weeping outside the school.
He told MailOnline: ‘My 14-year-old niece Afaq is inside the school. I don’t know if she is alive or dead. I am desperate. I am just waiting in hope. It is agony. ‘
‘My son was in uniform in the morning. He is in a casket now,’ wailed one parent, Tahir Ali, as he came to the hospital to collect the body of his 14-year-old son, Abdullah.
‘My son was my dream. My dream has been killed.’

Politics / Why Goodluck Jonathan Will Win In 2015 Election – By Reno Omokri by kediG: 10:13am On Dec 16, 2014

The Special Assistant to President Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri writes on why he believes the president will win in 2015. Read below and tell us what you think…
My dear brothers and sisters, a number of you have asked me, particularly on Social Media, why I think President Goodluck Jonathan deserves your vote. I will use this space to answer that question headlong and unequivocally, because I believe with every fiber of my being that reelecting President Jonathan is the best course of action that Nigerians can take if we do not want to go back to the old ways in which the government dictated to us rather than related to us.
Everything about the emergence of President Jonathan as the candidate of the PDP shows his party and it’s candidate as the only truly national candidate. The National Convention in the Federal Capital Territory, which is known as the ‘Center of Unity’ was auspicious and befitting as the PDP is the only political party that projects one united and indivisible Nigeria.
Nigerians can take pride in the PDP and its pan Nigerian credentials. The party does not have regional bases. The whole nation is its base.
The ruling has a unique ability to unite as a party that goes on to unite Nigeria as a nation.
The PDP is the largest party in Africa and under this banner, we have grown our economy to the point where it is now the largest economy in Africa proving that as the PDP grows stronger, Nigeria grows stronger.
And with all due respect, the choice between the PDP’s candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan and the opposition’s candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari is clear.

Lagosians who are today escaping Lagos traffic via the air conditioned Goodluck train must be under no illusion that this service just appeared from nowhere. No. It came about via a visionary long term plan whose ultimate goal when fully implanted will see a Lagos-Ibadan High Speed metro line that will enable people live in Ibadan and work in Lagos. The contract was signed in August 2012 for $1.5 billion and the management of the Chinese Firm CCECC has mobilized to site.
The project itself, being part of the Interstate Rail Project, has been listed by KPMG as one of the world’s top 100 infrastructure projects!
This is a fulfillment of the idea that Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande had way back in 1982-3 but which was delayed when the military thought they had murdered that idea by canceling the project. But that project has been given new life today by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration because as Thomas Sankara said “you cannot kill ideas”.
Some people erroneously think that President Jonathan will not do well in the 2015 election in Katsina State, but the people of Katsina will vote for President Jonathan because he built the only Federal University in Katsina state as well as the only 6 Almajiri schools in that state. Before the ascension of the President to power, Katsina and 11 other states had no Federal Universities.!
The 2015 election is about records. The President has his record and the opposition have theirs.
The days of selling a candidate based on his ethnicity, region and religion must go forever. 2015 must be about issues, records and ideas!
I, Reno Omokri, am proud to say that President Jonathan has never publicly or privately called for violence or bloodshed.
President Jonathan’s has bequeathed a good Human Right Record to Nigeria. No political Prisoners exist in Nigeria. No one is imprisoned for their views under President Jonathan. What is the opposition’s Human Right record?
When President Jonathan took office in 2010, it used to take an average of 7-8 hours to go from Benin to Lagos. Today, after the reconstruction. (Not repair) of the Benin-Ore road, that same journey can be done in 3 hours and the President sent the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to undertake the journey and verify the Estimated Travel Time on that road.
Some people say the opposition is coming to fight corruption and I ask them if they have seen the latest Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International 2 weeks ago?
Under President Jonathan, Nigeria progressed 8 points upward in the scale proving that the President is tackling corruption headlong.
The major progress Nigeria made in the 2014 Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International are the result of the clinical surgical incision made by President Jonathan at the root of corruption in Nigeria.
Gone are the show trials that glorify style over substance with media prosecutions that do not lead to convictions. Under Jonathan, Nigeria has had more corruption convictions than at any other time and Transparency International noticed.
Remember that the Fertilizer Procurement and Distribution sub sector of the Agricultural sector was a veritable channel of corruption. Billions of dollars went into private pockets as middlemen inflated costs and supplied adulterated products to farmers. But under President Jonathan’s watch, 14 million farmers were registered by the Ministry of Agriculture who connected them directly to the product through an e-wallet system by which the Agriculture ministry send texts to farmers to go and pick up their fertilizer and seeds direct from their locality.
What greater anti corruption credential can you have than to weed out 50,000 ghost workers from the Federal Civil service saving Nigeria almost 350 billion Naira per annum?
As I speak to you, the Abuja-Kaduna Rail project has been completed, under budget and under the time frame for which this administration promised which is as a result of the new efficiency of the Federal Civil Service which, through the Federal Ministry of Works, had been able to supervise the contractors efficiently because no kickbacks exchanged hands.
My brothers and sisters, as I unveil my candidate to you, I am confident not only that he will win the 2015 Presidential elections based on his record, I will further call on you and other well meaning Nigerians, that If you value human life, please urge INEC to make candidates take an oath not to incite violence when they lose in 2015.
I sometimes wonder if the opposition think that President Jonathan is a time traveller. Why do I say so? When the opposition says Nigeria’s problem is Jonathan perhaps they should explain why we had problems when some of them where in power. Is it that President Jonathan travelled back into the past to create the problems they faced?
They say that President Jonathan has not achieved anything.
In that case is it that President Jonathan bribed the UN to say that Nigeria’s average Life Expectancy rose from 47 to 52 years under his administration, or he bribed the International Monetary Fund, IMF, to promote Nigeria to a Middle Income Nation in 2013 from a Low Income Nation before that? Or he bribed KPMG to list our interstate High Speed Rail project as one of the world’s top 100 infrastructure projects? Did he compromise the International Food Policy Research Institute to say that hunger has reduced in Nigeria under Jonathan from 16% to 14.1%?
I am not saying that Nigeria’s problems are all solved. How could they be? It took us 50 years to get to the point we were before President Jonathan became president in 2010. Surely it will take us more than four years to get out of the problems we faced for half a century.’
But one thing I can say is that we are making progress under President Jonathan. Elections are now free and fair and we have bade farewell to do or die elections.
People can say what they like and be assured of freedom of speech and freedom after the speech.
The era of politically motivated assassinations are gone.
Our railways have been revived, our major highways have either been revived or are in a state of being revived.
All those 12 states that did not have universities prior to Jonathan’s ascension now have universities.
In today’s Nigeria, you cannot name a state in Nigeria where Jonathan has not built either a brand new university, a secondary school, a hospital or a new road!
President Jonathan knows that a mind is a terrible thing to waste thus Jonathan built 150 schools for Almajiri. And then some say that he has only scratched the surface. My response to them is that if previous administrations had likewise scratched the surface, we won’t have 12 million children out of the formal education system in Nigeria!
President Jonathan is building schools in every state because if disadvantaged kids had schools in the 80s they would not have grown up into adults that believe that books are haram!
Those regions that did not have international airports before Jonathan now have.
Today, Hyundai, Kia and Nissan have opened up vehicle manufacturing/assembly plants in Nigeria even as the government, most especially the Presidency, is patronizing Innoson cars as official cars.
Nigerians want stability in their leader. You won’t marry a person who jumps from relationship to relationship, so why support a Presidential aspirant who jumps from party to party?
From 1999 till today, President Goodluck Jonathan has remained in one party come rain come shine. Who in the opposition can make such a claim?
Nigerians want to know what a candidate will do for them. They do not want to listen to candidates bicker like motor park touts. Even those that do not support the President or the PDP have at least heard of the Transformation Agenda. Have you heard of the opposition’s agenda?
As elections approach, expect more panic attacks from a party that spent its time insulting and criticizing the President instead of selling its ideas to Nigerians.
They say that they will form a parallel government if they lose in 2015. Under Jonathan, elections held in Edo, Anambra, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun. Which of them were rigged? Why is APC rejecting 2015 elections in 2014?
My brother and sisters, never allow those who swore that they were determined to make some parts of Nigeria “ungovernable” shake you and turn your focus from the verifiable progress Nigeria is making under President Goodluck Jonathan. I can assure that just as he said when he declared his interest to contest the 2015 Presidential elections, under President Jonathan’s leadership, Nigeria “will never go back to the old ways”!

Politics / Human Rights Group Drags Buhari To ICC Over Alleged Crimes by kediG: 7:46am On Dec 16, 2014

A Nigerian human rights group, the Northern Coalition for Democracy and Justice (NCDJ), on Monday, askedthe International Criminal Court (ICC) to bring charges against Muhammadu Buhari, for post-election violence in 2011.The group said in a statement that Buhari should face justice over the violence, which claimed 800 people’s lives and destroyed many churches and schools.

The ICC has been looking into possible war crimes in Nigeria since 2010.The NCDJ alleged that the violence included murder, torture and rape systematically directed at perceived non-supporters of Buhari.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that, the NCDJ had previously referred Buhari to the ICC in 2011, but said it decided to submit more evidence after the former military ruler emerged as the main candidate for February’s presidential elections.

“We have a lot of very strong evidences we are submitting to the prosecutor,” said Goran Sluiter, a Dutch law professor acting for the NCDJ, adding he wanted to ensure Buhari did not escape justice by winning political office.

Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) party denied the claims, saying they were politically-motivated.

“They will not stop at anything to try to derail Buhari,” said the party’s spokesman, Lai Mohammed.“I can see the hands of the government behind it,”

Nairaland / General / “why We Could Not Defeat Boko Haram”- Army Commander Writes A Letter To Jonathan by kediG: 9:16pm On Dec 15, 2014
\

President Goodluck Jonathan
In a desperate letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President David Mark leaked to SaharaReporters this past weekend, a commanding officer stationed in Nigeria’s northeast details several troubling issues plaguing troops combatting Islamist terror group Boko Haram in the region.
The officer stated that, corruption, maladministration, lack of resources and troops motivation has militated against a successful campaign to end Boko Haram’s deadly reign of terror in the northeast.
The officer’s lengthy complaint which he claims would lead to a threat to his life forewarns that if his pleas continue to be ignored by the country’s leadership that both the Nigerian Army and the country will crumble under the insurgency.
“If all issues raised in this letter are not urgently addressed, the Nigerian Army will soon be history and by implication there will be no country called Nigeria,” the officer gravely states. “No country without a strong army will survive.”
Below is the full text of the officer’s letter addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan
PLEASE MR PRESIDENT SAVE THE MILITARY AND NIGERIA FROM COLLAPSING
1. Sir, I am constrain to write you this letter which I consider it a matter of more than great importance for me to inform you and put to record issues that are happening in the North East (Operation Zaman Lafiya). I choose this medium to write you this open letter because I have written similar letter but no action was taking which I believe some forces have blocked it are now after my life. Sir I have served in 7 Division as staff officer and presently I am the commanding officer of 103Bn in the field. My combined wealth of experience as a staff officer and now commanding officer are the disturbing fact that necessitated me to write you this letter. While as a staff officer, I was among those who believed that the commanders in the field are not doing well. But presently, as a commander in the field, I found out that it is not the fault of any commander that the defeat of the so called BOKO HARAM (BH) has not been achieved.
2. First and foremost sir, the Nigerian Army is poorly equipped in the North East, if all the battalions are well-equipped as required; it will not take the Army more than two weeks to flush out the BH. Presently there are four units in my location here in KONDUGA including 21 Armoured Brigade HQ. If all the units are provided with all their requirements, we can advance and flush out BH out of North East. Mr. President sir, the Nigerian Army is well-trained and capable of defending our nation. It has demonstrated the capacity to even successfully enforce peace in other nations. Why not in our own country Nigeria?
3. The fact about NE operation is that we are poorly equipped, understaffed, high corruption from Army Headquarters down to battalion level. Commanders see it as opportunity to make money. My predecessor has complained of the same problem. Instead of ASA addressing the issue raised by him, the army authorities decided to Court Martialled him. All the units in NE are understaffed, but on payroll their strength are complete just to collect more allowances than what each unit is supposed to. The commanders see it as a personal money making venture rather than taking care of men and equipment. This ugly trend led to loss of many officers and soldiers and thereby having adverse effect on the moral (sic) of troops. Majority of soldiers in the operation area wear mufti (civil cloths) under their military uniforms in case there is an attack and the troops cannot withstand the BH, they found it easy to disguise as civilians to enable them escape. This is not the traditional practice in the NA. Though it is lack of adequate equipment and poor administration from the higher authority that resulted to this ugly trend by our troops

4. Sir, another bad and unprofessional act is that soldiers don’t take to orders from their superior officers because they have lost confidence/trust from them. The case of former General Officer Commanding 7 Division Major General A. Mohammed is enough evidence to show that all is not well in the Nigerian Army. It will interest you to note that worse cases has been recorded before that of the former GOC and more are still happening, but nobody is ready to investigate the root cause of problems facing the troops in the field.
5. This brings me to a recent occurrence which is my main purpose of writing this letter. As I mentioned earlier, due to the failure of the authority to address issues that I made mentioned, when a unit is attacked and overran by the BH not because the soldiers are unable to fight, but lack of weapons, ammunitions and communications equipment, the soldiers on many occasions will ran away, and a commander cannot stand and fight alone as a result of this. Presently seventy percent of commanders in the NE are facing Court Martial due to the reasons mentioned. We the commanding officers are very worried over this development. This is because we many soon find our self as victims of this maladministration from our higher authorities.
6. There is no sincerity in this operation; this is because the present acting GOC has never visited any location outside Maiduguri town not to talk of principal staff officers in Army Headquarters or even the COAS. But we keep on hearing all sorts of lies that Generals are leading the fight against BH. These are facts that can be confirmed from officers and soldiers in this operation including those in the 7 Division Headquarters. The GOC is so afraid that even with the Divisional Headquarters; he doesn’t go out and always locked himself inside his office. Infact it is a common knowledge among officers and soldiers in this operation that the acting GOC is here to make his money and earn his promotion to the detriment of the operation. The completion of his mansion at No 8 Gwamna Road in Kaduna which the GOC ignorantly disclosed that when he completed it, will be among the best houses in Kaduna, has turned to be a subject of discussion among troops.
7. The former 21 Armored Brigade commander is facing Court Martial today because the acting GOC does not want to see him and his garrision in Maiduguri town simply because of the huge monthly allocations from the Borno State government to the brigade garrision. He wanted to be collecting his money by using 7 Div Garrison, but in reality 7 Div Garrision does not have troops to claim such money. It is worthy to note that the GOC received 33,000litres of AGO and PMS each, 600 bags of rice monthly from Borno State government. All these items are diverted for his personal use.
8. Recently the newly appointed 21 Brigade commander lead 3 units to flush out the BH, that operation was successful, almost 300 BH were killed, weapons and vehicles were recovered from them, in the process the troops exhausted their ammunitions from the Div, the GOC simply replied that there was no ammunition this made all the troops to withdraw back to KONDUGA.

Politics / I Stand With Jonathan, Buhari Represents Darkness – Fani-kayode by kediG: 11:04am On Dec 15, 2014

A former minister of Aviation, Chief Femi-Fani Kayode has described the 2015 presidential elections between President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a battle between forces of light and darkness.
FFK, as he’s also known, in a Facebook post shortly after Buhari was declared winner of the APC primaries, openly kicked against the emergence of the former head of state, who he alleged is a Muslim fanatic and does not want the progress of the nation, Nigeria.
His message reads thus: “Major General Mohammadu Buhari has emerged as the APC flagbearer and President Goodluck Jonathan has emerged for the PDP. Now the battle for the soul and future of our nation begins. The forces of light shall surely prevail over the forces of darkness and God’s counsel alone shall stand over Nigeria. I stand with Jonathan. Let’s get it on.
“Jihadi groups killed more than 5,000 people last month, with Iraq topping the league table of deaths, followed by Nigeria, Afghanistan and Syria.

“After Iraq, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Syria, Yemen was fifth in the deadly league table, tying with Somalia, with 37 incidents each”- DORO ADEBENTLEY 11 December, Facebook.
“All these and some people still say they want Buhari as President? A man who said, only last year, that ‘an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the north”? A man who said, in 2001, that he wants to ‘spread sharia throughout the federation’? A man who said, in 2001, that ‘Muslims should only vote for Muslims’? A man who said, in 2001, that ‘why should Christians be concerned when Muslims cut off their limbs under sharia’? A man who said, in 2001, that ‘after all the limbs that are being cut off are Muslim ones and not Christians, so why should the Christians bother about it’?
