These animals can be very entertaining. Watching sometimes is a whole drama episode. Especially ducks.

So something funny happened recently...

Two hens started brooding at the same time, and hatched their eggs the same day. One had 5 chicks the other had 8 chicks. The last chick to hatch from the 8 was very weak, and the mother kind of abandoned it. The mother with 5 chicks started taking care of it for a few days, till it got strong, and then it kind of went back to its original mother. So now, the chick moves between two families...sometimes, it would be with it's original mother, and then at other times, it would be with the mother that made sure it didn't die.

Yes, but it defeats the purpose of what they are raised for. They are raised mainly for their free range nature, and for being hardy.
Thank you

Top passive income earner

I must confess, these vegetables in this season is indeed a gold mine. Farming vegetables is veeeeeeeeeery profitable during the dry seasons. Every bed harvested gave me twice the normal rainy seasons prices. For me, the Tete was my top earning vegetables (well, the Soko most times were dapping off), next to the Ewedu(s) grin. Yoruba no dey use ewedu play oooo!!! Lastly, the Soko was fair though.

Overall sales was very very profitable.
Quite a neat farm you've got. Thanks for sharing your experience with these local veges. Is it too late to make good money from them?

The Feeding:

I got them some broilers started pelleted feed (Name withheld, no free adverts grin). Both the turkeys and duck responded well to the feeds so I guess I will stick to it for now.

Qasa is a wild one hahahaha I must confess. You need to see her round around with pellets in her mouth evading the turkeys who don't even recognize her presence. cheesy cheesy cheesy grin
😄

When they were younger (without the waterproof feathers) I didn't allow them outside their pens. But since after letting them out it was always work to get them back in their pen in the evening. They prefer to stay outdoors and when it rains they are so excited and play about in the rain. You will see them glide in the rain runoff water. They love the rain.

Concerning the source I will need to search here on nairaland again which you can also do.
Thank you

How do the Fulani chickens fare on free range during the rainy season? Year before last I experimented with female local chickens, local turkey and noiler on semi-free range. They were in a fenced area and provided feed. I sold the local chicken eggs while using the local chickens to hatch the noiler eggs and turkey eggs. Initially they were doing well and the noiler birds multiplied from about 10 to 60+ or so. But during the rainy season I lost many birds and got discouraged. Looks like free ranging during the rainy season is challenging for chickens.

Last year I started experimenting with pekin ducks. So far It seems they don't have problem with rainy season. I can't conclude yet since I had just 5, now 4 (1 entered pot). And they lay lots of eggs.
Please where did you get your Pekin ducks? I rear Muscovy ducks and the younger ones (less than four months) don't fare well under the rain. They haven't developed their waterproof feathers by then. Even the older ones like to take shelter from very heavy rains. Do well to provide some shelter for them.

Also, have you ever come across a plantain variety that fruits 2 bunches on the same tree? I am looking for the sucker of such plantain like a lost wife. I will appreciate a direction to where i can get them to buy.

My elder brother has this variety in his compound, maybe about 20 stands or so. The beauty of it is that, each bunch usually have about 50 to 55 big fingers, i have talked to them at IITA but they don't seem to know the variety.

If i see someone who can mass produce the suckers from the ones my bro has, i won't mind paying the person.
You can contact @Jidestroud @jidestroud. I think he has the suckers. Look for his thread on plantains.

Thank you for the reply. I stay in sango but I really don’t mind anywhere in Lagos, if it’s close that’s a plus if not it’s fine as long as it’s a well stocked store that I can get anything agricultural.
Do you know Lusada? It's Ogun state though. From Sango-Atan-Lusada/Igbesa road. Just after the Lusada bridge on your way to Agbara. There's a farmercare outlet. You can't miss it. Brightly painted complex on your left. They have a relatively well-stocked shop. Initially an animal farming store, they delved into crop farming supplies about a year ago. You need to know what you want though as the current staff are still learning the ropes with respect to crop farming inputs.
