After about five weeks of break as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the House of Representatives is set to resume plenary on Tuesday.

The Nation gathered the leadership of the House decided to resume to consider the review of the 2020 budget as requested by the President and other emergency requests.

It was gathered that an official statement regarding the resumption will be made public on Monday by the leadership of the House.

The Lower Chambers went on break on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 to allow members go to their constituencies to educate their constituents on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sources close to the leadership confirmed told The Nation on the resumption “you cannot quote me. There will be an official statement to that effect from the leadership”.

Spokesman of the House could not be reached for comment as at the time of this report.

But in a notice to members, the Clerk to the House of Representatives, Patrick Giwa said: ” This is to Inform all Members of the House of Representatives that the House will now resume Plenary Session on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at 10.00 am.

“Members are advised to take note of the new date of resumption, please.

“The Covid-19 Guidelines approved by the Federal Government and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and additional Guidelines developed by the House will be sent to members’ pigeon holes for collection on resumption.

“Staff and members’ Aides are to work from home and be notified when needed in the office for any special assignment.”

On Saturday, news spread that several prominent residents have dropped dead in the last 24 hours.

While some had coronoavirus symptoms, what hit others still remain unknown.

There are speculations of meningitis but residents say they cannot even explain what’s going on in the ancient city.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had shut down in the state on Wednesday and no definite date for resumption.


A list of those that have died released by PRNigeria, has editors, bankers, businessmen, professors, government officials, among others

They include Ibrahim Ayagi; Aliyu Umar Dikko, Abdullahi Lawal; ex-MD of Continental Merchant Bank, Ibrahim Ayagi; Musa Ahmad Tijjani, Editor of Triumph newspapers; Adamu Dal, ex-Chairman State Civil Service Commission.

Others are Nasiru Maikano Bichi; Musa Umar Gwarzo; Ustaz Dahiru Rabiu, ex-Grand Khadi; Salisu Lado; Nene Umma; Garba Sarki Fagge; Salisu Lado; Shamsiyya Mustapha; Nene Umma; Garba Sarki Fagge; Nasiru Maikano Bichi; Rabiu Dambatta; Kabiru Ibrahim Bayero and mother of businessman, Ado Gwanja

This adds to the series of fire outbreaks that have hit key government offices in the country in recent days.

On April 8, fire broke out at the Treasury House, a building housing the Accountant General of the Federation’s office, exactly a week after there was another fire outbreak at the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission, while the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in Abuja also went up in flames days after.
