Neighbours discover decomposing bodies of family of six presumably killed by generator fumes

Neighbours of a family of six living at Rumuomosi , in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area, of Rivers State, yesterday discovered their decomposing bodies in the sitting room.

They were suspected to have been killed of the fumes emitted by their generator. The decomposing bodies were found, at their residence on Salvation Street by concerned neighbours who had gone in search of them when they realized that not one of them had been seen since last Friday.

The discovery has thrown the residents in a mourning mood. The family is made up of the father, mother, and four children. The ages of the children were said to be 6, 4, 3 and 2. The police evacuated the bodies on Monday afternoon.

According to the landlord, who asked for anonymity because the police was investigating the matter said he saw the family last on Friday morning. The landlord told journalists that “Their generator was on when I returned home on Friday evening and I presumed they were inside the house. .

I didn’t see them on Saturday. I also did not see any of them on Sunday. My junior brother called me this afternoon while I was at work to intimate me that something was happening at my house, so I rushed down here. I am in shock.”

One of the neighbour who saw the bodies when the police arrived to evacuate them said they were lying down on the floor which suggested that the family might have been watching television and perhaps slept off in the process, leaving the television and generator on.

The Police Public Relations Officer, of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said the Police had evacuated the bodies and taken them to the mortuary for post morten examination.

The police image maker said: “The speculation is that the family may have died from carbon monoxide which emanated from their generator. But that has not been scientifically proven. So, we are waiting for the autopsy report to make our findings.”

Okechukwu Brown, a father of three, was on Monday in Lagos sentenced to three years imprisonment for defrauding an American of $3,650 in an online romance scam. .

Justice Josephine Oyefeso of an Ikeja High Court handed down the verdict after Brown pleaded guilty to the charge. Brown was sentenced after entering into a plea bargain with the EFCC.
As part of the terms of the agreement, he pleaded guilty to a one-count amended charge of obtaining money by false pretences. .

The convict obtained 3,650 dollars online from Mr Thomas Nublin of the United States of America. The Lagos office of the EFCC in July 2014, received a petition from the U.S. Army alleging that some persons traced to Nigeria defrauded some members of the U.S. Army of over 13,000 dollars in a romance scam.

The EFFC investigated and was able to trace some of the funds amounting to 3,650 dollars to EcoBank Plc via Moneygram which was received by the convict. The convict, in the course of the investigation, refunded to authorities, the said sum of 3,650 dollars.

We gathered that a pastor from Zimbabwe reportedly stole a goat to buy musical instruments for his church members.

According to reports, Pastor Stephen Moyo of the Zion Christian Church, is facing charges of theft.

Early 2017, Pastor Moyo reportedly stole livestock from a man identified as Tawanda Machaya, he was said to have sold the goat afterwards.

However, Pastor Moyo was caught after he reportedly sold the goat to buy musical instruments for his church. The goat was later returned to Tawanda.

Pastor Moyo was quoted as saying that he needed the goat for the instruments to make his church members happy. He had pleaded guilty to stealing the goat and was later asked to serve a 1-year jail term.

The sentence was later reduced to 10 months and was eventually terminated, while the pastor was asked to do community service instead.

The community expressed their shock for the actions of the pastor, saying they are slowly losing their trust in him.
