Ahead of today’s meeting by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with lawmakers-elect for the 8th National Assembly, there are pressures by some party big shots for one of the contenders for the speaker of the 8th House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara to run as deputy speaker under Femi Gbajabiamila, it was learnt in Abuja yesterday.
The APC had earlier scheduled the meeting for Thursday, but due to intense pressure and disagreement among major stakeholders, including some state governors who feared that a mock primary would be conducted at the meeting, which might bring about division, it was postponed to today.
Initially, there were more than five aspirants for the position, but three namely Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Pally Iriase and Yussuf Lasun, stepped down for Gbajabiamila, while Abdulmumin Jibrin withdrew for Dogara.
It was learnt that some outgoing principal officers of the 7th Assembly are now at the forefront to have Dogara as deputy speaker because he has been in the race since after the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections, but that they feared he might lose out completely.
Already, Gbajabiamila has picked one of the earliest aspirants for the speaker’s seat, Monguno, from Borno State. The duo have since sealed a deal as their campaign posters are seen everywhere together. Besides, Gbajabiamila, it was gathered, is not ready to work with Dogara as deputy as that would be in breach of the agreement he had with Monguno, who had stepped down for him last week.

Senator Deacon Alaba Obende Domingo who is a senator representing the people of Edo North in Edo State and hails from Igarra, was as clueless as the word 'clueless' in the sense that during the military regime,he was a close pal to former head of state,Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar and he couldn't by virtue of his relationship to the General attract any benefit to the people of Igarra as a unit in Akoko Edo.
Considering the fact that he was a wealthy man before he had any political ambition,he made us believe he can only affect his people by a political office and not the money alone,to our greatest dismay he was elected in 2011 as a senator this time not to only represent the people of Igarra or Akoko Edo people but the entire Edo North only to see him built an un-equipped deserted 300-seater civic hall,sunk boreholes with sub-standard materials and they are now a shadow of themselves and giving jobs to non-existing individuals on paper.
Meanwhile individuals without any political ambition have provided social amenities which the people of Igarra are enjoying.
Rumours has it that most of the roads tarred in Gov Adams Oshiomole(His god-father)own district in Edo North,Etsako were strongly financed by this so-called senator thereby completely neglecting his own unit(Akoko-Edo) just to secure political favour from the Governor and he promised to perform in his second term as a senator.
If I may ask my fellow nairalanders,when has 2nd term becomes a birth-right?
Now Gov Oshiomole has dumped him that he couldn't even win his primaries owing to the fact that that it's Oshiomole's constituency and that he may want to pick a senatorial ticket after the expiration of his tenure.
Oshiomole knowing fully well that if Domingo had clinched a second tenure,he will be too hard to crack come 2019 when he may be vying for such political position.
Now Sen Domingo and Akoko Edo are left with nothing whereas Etsako(Oshiomole's district) Is the cynosure of all eyes in the whole of Edo State.
Tell me why Oshiomole will not be the david of Etsako and Senator Domingo,the black sheep and a judas to Akoko-Edo.
So I'm embarking on this Trek to finally bid cluelessness in Akoko-Edo BYE BYE...

Pandemonium broke out is Sagamu,Saturday, when some unknown gunmen stormed some polling units and snatched some ballot boxes.
The action, Sunday Vanguard gathered disrupted the election process for a while before some soldiers intercepted the gang and retrieved the stolen ballot boxes from them.
It was gathered that, the intervention of the soldiers saved snatching of ballot boxes in Sagamu local government area, as voting was still on-going as at 9.00pm when the incident occurred.
A source told our correspondent that, the incident happened at Itunsokun Ward in the council area and had caused delay in voting proceeding for several hours.
The Chairman of the council area, Funmilayo Ewuape who spoke with newsmen on phone described the development as shocking, saying “the daring gang stormed the complex and started shooting sporadically. They succeed in carting the boxes.


“But, when I got the information, I immediately contacted the Soldiers to go after the gang and got them. They retrieved the boxes, and we have started voting now at Itunsokun (9.05pm).
She was silent over whether the soldiers made any arrest or not.
Further findings have shown that, the gang making sighted men of Nigerian Army took to their heels and abandoned the boxes.
