With all due respect to the east, these Senators should be stoned. Can you imagine, all these while, when budget was being prepared, they did not say anything. Even when the issue of Amaechi sneaking or padding in South to North rail project, they were aware and partook in approving it. Now budget is 80% passed and almost ready, you now open your stinking mouth to complain. Come to think of it, what is ekweremadu do there if he can't influence projects like this to his region. I pity people who support these politicians, they are all the same.

For those criticising the government for exchanging prisoners for the girls, it seem you don't know International practice when it comes to war. America and other Western countries do it normally, they don't kill enemies they capture because they might use them as bargaining chip later. Thumbs up to the government for seeing this true

NYSC / Community Development by kessgreen(m): 6:46am On Apr 14, 2017
IT was all smiles on the faces of schoolgirls in Zamfara State, when a youth corps member, Ezugwu Debbie, through her #IMPACTWITHEBUBE campaign, distributed sanitary pads and also provided free eye test and treatment to rural dwellers in Gusau.

In collaboration with NYSC, the Zamfara state government, Nigeria Labour Congress and King Fahad Women and Children Hospital (Eye Clinic), about 500 students, staff and officials were screened, a total of 171 patients were treated for various eye ailments, over 100 sanitary pads were donated to various schools including white chalkboards, drugs, ointment and recommended glasses was provided for both staff, students and rural dwellers in Sarkin, Kudu, Tudu, Wada, all in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.

She said the initiative came when she visited the community and discovered the challenges being faced by the female students whom she tutors in her primary place of assignment. According to her, the poor rural girls did not have access to sanitary pads; they used clothes, rags as makeshift that usually led to accidental leaking which often exposed them to infections. To worsen the situation, the cost of sanitary pad was too expensive for the parents to help regularly provide for them to stay clean and healthy.

The other initiative, #SAVEYOURSIGHT which involves provision of eye screening/test and treatment helped young children who did not know they were visually impaired (short sightedness, longsightedness, refractive error, conjunctivitis etc), educated them on the need for early detection, care and treatment of their eyes.  As a victim who had undergone surgical treatment for Intra ocular pressure on both eyes, she said her ordeal spurred her to sensitise the public on the need for regular eye check-up and treatment.

The initiative was commended by the Chairman; Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Bashir Muhammad Mafara and Representative of Zamfara State Government through the Permanent Secretary; Ministry of local government and Chieftaincy Affair, Alhaji Abubakar Bello Furfuri who said the #IMPACTWITHEBUBE is an initiative worthy of emulation and goes a long way in engendering National growth and integration.

This is not Dasukigate or spurious election tribunals. This is a trial for a man's life and this is the Supreme Court, not a Magistrates. There are convicts in American death row today who have been there before 2006 and America has a healthy and quick judicial system

THE TAMBUWAL PALAVER: DISGRACE? OR WHAT YOU WILL

Thursday, 28 November 2014

I have observed with rapt attention the on goings in the country as we move closer to 2015 elections. As I wrote in my earlier article on GEJ and 2015: to be or not to be. I remarked that 2015 could be much illustrated in the HBO epic series- the game of thrones in which 7 Clans try to do everything possible to out-muscle each other just to emerge as the undisputed king of all the seven Clans. I have chosen to observe these actors play a real life movie this time, and like every excellent movie which consist of intrigues, suspense, complex storyline or characters spiced with huge sense of humour, so far I haven’t been disappointed ( albeit would love quite a positive ending though). From the River state crisis to the Taraba’s Suntai controversy to Sanusi’s $20 billion exposition which eventually led to his ouster yet reinventing himself back in the game as the Emir of Kano much to the chagrin of his haters in GEJ’s cabal, the seeming unending Boko haram problem which has become a reality, Fayose season 2 and now the latest episode - THE TAMBUWAL PALAVER.

It is no longer news that the Speaker of the house of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has finally defected from the people’s Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress, what’s worthy of mention is the aftermath event that transpired at the house of assembly complex in which the world witnessed live; our lawmakers were made to forcibly climb through the gate in order to gain entry into the assembly chambers.

Most people say this act carried out by the members was disgusting, shameful and a disgrace to the image of this nation but it makes me laugh ( because there’s no tears left in me for this Nation, am all out) at such statements because much more shameful events have occurred yet we turned a blind eye to it: a shipping vessel( MT African Pride) whose tanker loaded with 30,000 barrels of crude oil disappeared without trace from the custody of our Navy, a National embarrassment yet we did nothing, Ibori charged to court for countless times in Nigeria for corrupt practices and always discharged and acquitted but just once in a British court(just once) was declared guilty, or is it the John Yusuf (the Police pension fund) case in which he and his accomplices stole $27 billion but were made to pay a fine of only N750,000? Oh wait, that same week a judge in Ogun state gave an order of N10, 000 fine for an individual who stole vegetable in a farm! The Nation watched as 59 male students in Adamawa state got their throat slit for no justifiable reason, yet we did nothing! Oh Christ didn’t we watch live on Television a President and his first lady initially deny that no girl was kidnapped in Chibok? Yet here we are talking of an event which could be described, a mere child’s play compared to real issues given less attention, yet we scream. It is sad to say, Nigerians easily forget, we got this strange shock absorber which makes us react on the spur and excitement of the moment, but after a while, we just forget and everyone goes back to business as usual. I know in a month’s time another event would occur, this event will become stale but before it does, I would love to add my humble opinion.

Truth be told, our politicians do not learn from the past, instead they repeat same mistakes over and again. The fact is, this Tambuwal episode had all along been an accident waiting to happen. It all started in 2011 when PDP zoned the speakership position to the south-west. Hon Tambuwal from the North-west broke the zoning cordon even as the emergence of GEJ had previously experienced similar situation. However, if you juxtapose the two events you’ll realize that while GEJ had the blessings of the powers that be, Tambuwal did not. He was left in the cold to seek shelter where ever he could. Fortunately for him, Tinubu’s influential foot soldiers in the house (and his Northern associates too) rallied round him, and finally against all odds, he defeated the anointed candidate of the ‘POWERS THAT BE in PDP’. Since then his ship set sail, he gladly carried the opposition along, albeit not without some bad “belle” in PDP aboard. That is the genesis of this present impeachment crisis, the seed which was sown 2011, is now ripe for the harvest.

However, since the announcement of Tambuwals defection to the APC, there has been a ripple effect as we approach 2015. It has generated several arguments about Tambuwal’s speakership position. One argument which the PDP apologists keep fronting is section 68(1) of the 1999 constitution. The section says: “a member of the senate or of the house of representative shall vacate his seat in the house of which he is a member if (g) being a member was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that house was elected”. Based on this argument one could easily agree they are correct, due process should be followed and Tambuwal should vacate his position. But wait a minute! There is a condition which the PDP did not put into consideration, that section gives a condition which must be justified before a lawmaker could retain his seat after defecting. it further states: “... provided that his membership of the latter political party is not as a result of a division in the political party of which he was previously a member or of a merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored”. This is where the PDP shot itself in the foot because if at one time or the other PDP was factionalised; Tambuwal has a valid argument thus flooring PDP own as contradictory argument (or perhaps hogwash). We are all aware of the so called “New PDP” which was led by Abubakar Baraje (although is no more) the several controversy about some sections of the party calling for Bamanga Tukur’s resignation which he finally obliged, and to prove how much the party has disintegrated, the chairman of the board of trustees on several occasions had to visit aggrieved parties to return to the “umbrella”. Now it is a fact that PDP is factionalised but the question is: who defines and decides if the party is factionalised? Obviously this issue would finally be dragged to the Judiciary.

That said, on the ground of morality of those condemning the lawmakers of climbing the gate of the assembly, let me state unequivocally that that act which the lawmakers partook is wrong on a good sunny day, but was it a good day?. There is a saying in our local parlance, “if cunny man die, na cunny man go bury am”, the crux of the whole issue is that the pro GEJ legislators wanted to play it fast and dirty but Tambuwal’s men proved smarter for their liking. The strategy (which has been consistent with the PDP government) was to gather a handful of PDP legislators into the chambers to “impeach” and install the deputy speaker as “speaker” And to achieve this, first, the police would be used to allow only anti- Tambuwal or rather GEJ legislators into the chambers and afterward bar the gates against pro Tambuwal’s men. When this is achieved, they move to plan B which is, no matter how small the number is, they will go ahead to impeach the Speaker. The next step after the deed has been done, Tambuwal’s men would cry foul, run to the judiciary to save the situation, by the time the court decides who is right or wrong, GEJ’s men would have achieved what they set out for- remove Tambuwal. But just like the Rivers episode, GEJ’s men failed woefully once again. They never imagined Tambuwal’s men would play so dirty as to climb the gates and force their way in. I was shocked seeing them ( on tv) screaming on top their voices, shaking the gates, and finally climbing it but when I carefully observed, the vermin that lay beneath the rock, I realized again- it’s all about 2015.

The truth is, with the recent developments, Tambuwal has proven to be a crafty politician. His charismatic leadership of steering the house of Reps has seen him rise meteorically in his political career. As his popularity increases by the day, GEJ’s men feel more threatened about his growing influence, just like in Bob Marley’s words, “kill them before they grow” has now become their mantra.

The problem with our democracy since we gained independence is that being in the opposition makes you an enemy, therefore you must be crushed with immediate alacrity. We scream when the legislators climbed the gate yet we seem to forget that the right of the legislators was infringed upon. It is saddening that the police whose job is to protect citizen and maintain the peace is being used as a tool to suppress any differing view of the President. This administration has times without number flagrantly abused the constitution just to pursue its own selfish aims. They play hocus pocus with people’s intelligence and manipulate however possible they can, to suppress any opposing view. it’s has gotten so bad to the extent they ‘piss on our heads and they tell us the rain is falling’. Martin Luther king jnr once said: “in the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends”.
least we forget the Chibok girls, they are Nigerian too

During the Rivers episode when Amaechi cried out against the abuse of office of the Presidency (and the first lady), we claimed he (Amaechi) was arrogant and fighting for Vice- Presidential slot (as if it’s not his right), when Sanusi screamed billions of Dollars was missing, we claimed he was lying or perhaps his outcry was in part due to his religious bias towards GEJ, his passport was consequently seized and he was almost arrested but for the timely intervention of the judiciary. Now the Ekiti crisis looms yet we keep our lips sealed- these abuses go on and on. Now it's the turn of the house of Reps, we are busy condemning legitimate owners of assembly (the Reps) yet we turn a blind eye to the reality on ground that someone somewhere has abandoned his responsibility of protecting the lives and sovereignty of Nigeria and he’s stooping low to fight dirty for another tenure. While these are happening, Boko haram is wasting the lives of not only our citizen but that of our armed forces.
We talk about disgrace and shame right? Now this is shame: when our soldiers flee from battlefield to our borders due to inferior arms and ammunition, totally overwhelmed by the Boko Haram terrorist, when a President in full glare say “ordinary stealing is not corruption”, yet an individual steals vegetable worth not less N200, and the judge orders him to pay a fine of 10,000 else risking jail term yet another individual is made to pay fine of N750, 000 from which he stole N27 billion. If these events are not shameful, disgusting and disgraceful enough, then I need schooling once again.
