A retired engineer says he has spent £30,000 which is about N12,000,000 of savings on his fight "for justice" over a £100 (N40,000) speeding fine. Richard Keedwell, 71, said a "seriously flawed" legal system meant fighting the fine had taken nearly three years and used up his sons' inheritance money. He claims he was wrongly clocked doing 35mph in a 30mph zone on a day trip to Worcester in 2016. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the case involved a "multiplicity of issues" which added to its length. Mr Keedwell, of Yate in Gloucestershire, claimed he "was certainly not doing more than 30mph" in New Road in November 2016. He said: "I was very surprised when a couple of days later I got the NIP [Notice of Intended Prosecution]. "I really could not believe that I had been speeding. It made a simple day out turn very sour actually." Mr Keedwell claimed he had "no case to answer" and recruited the help of a video and electronics expert who told the court the speed camera may have been triggered by a car in an adjacent lane or have been faulty. However, he said it took four trips to Worcester Magistrates' Court before his appeal was heard. After losing the case, he lost a further crown court appeal in August. Mr Keedwell said he expected the case would be "fairly quick" but had spent "the best part of £30,000", including about £21,000 in barristers' fees and £7,000 in court costs, as well as travel expenses. Mr Keedwell said he felt guilty his family would miss out and said the case had proved "very stressful". "I'm sick and tired at the whole system which is steamrolling ordinary people," he said. "I regret the amount of money. I very simply wanted justice." A CPS spokesman said some issues raised by the defence led to the need for additional hearings and for expert evidence to be obtained. "As the case involved both a lengthy trial at the magistrates' court and subsequent hearings at the crown court to progress an appeal against conviction, the overall length of the case took some time to conclude," they said. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-49641063? |

respect80:thing is i don't know what happened in south kaduna, they probably broke the law of the state, but had he elrufai said kaduna is an islamic state after sacking the traditional christian rulers and replacing them with fulani muslim ones as alleged then we can understand his motive and i will most definitely condenm him, just like I'll not give a f*ck just because wike demolished a mosque because i know you can't just build anything you want everywhere. even kwankwaso demolished many mosques here in kano |
Pentasoft1978:you probably believe earth is flat too and moon landing is a hoax, there is no point arguing with you if you believe what even a 10 year old boy will laugh at if he was told. f*ck off |
APCHaram:give a link to the story . |
APCHaram:here we go, resorting to insults because you are losing the argument. let me give an example that your little brain may probably understand, take saudi arabia thats operated and governed by sharia islamic law and compare it to kano. have you ever heard thief get amputated in kano or a fornicator stoned to death. |
APCHaram:it seems you don't even know what a caliphate or sharia law means. it will be nice if you can put out sentiment in your judgements, you may as well go back to school while you're at it. |
APCHaram:but did he said kaduna is an islamic state? or did he destroy their place of worship? beside can you please give me link to the story. |
APCHaram:1-kano state is not governed by sharia law 2-kano state doesn't operate sharia law 3-Sokoto Chaliphate no longer exist STOP BEING DELUDED. |
APCHaram:just imagine for a second ganduje saying kano state is an islamic state and then demolishing a church after, what do you think will happen? |

Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams has signed a nine-year contract with the Spanish club. Williams, 25, has signed until 2028 and his new deal includes a 135m Euro (£125m) release clause. The contract is one of the longest ever handed to a player but does not surpass the 10-year agreement Real Betis handed Brazilian winger Denilson in 1998. Williams said: "Hopefully great things can come because what I want to make this club bigger, if possible." "This, as you can see, is my house, and all I want, I have it here. The club has always bet on me, it has given me everything, I feel it is my home." Williams, who made his senior debut for Athletic Bilbao in 2014, was linked with a move to Manchester United during the transfer window.

Angry South Korean football fans are seeking compensation after Cristiano Ronaldo failed to take to the pitch during a Juventus pre-season friendly. The superstar was contracted to play 45 minutes when the match against K League All Stars was announced, organisers say, but he stayed on the subs' bench. Fans became angry when he made no sign of lacing up his boots, even chanting the name of his rival Lionel Messi. Some have now reached out to Seoul law firm Myungan to file a lawsuit. They are seeking compensation of 70,000 won (£48.50; $59) per ticket, 1,000 won for the ticket commission fee, and 1m won each for compensation for "mental anguish". "Normally in such cases the plaintiffs will be refunded the price of the tickets, but I put this under a special case since the company, through false advertising, took advantage of the football star's fans," a lawyer from the firm told Reuters. "As for the mental anguish part, I'd like to say some of them are raucous fans, the real avid fans. So for them it is very painful because they love Ronaldo and want to protect him, but they can't, given the situation," he added. "For now we have two plaintiffs who sued the company, but I have been getting a lot of calls today and I assume there will be some 60,000 more." Robin Chang, CEO of The Fasta, the Korean agency which arranged the game, broke down in tears to broadcaster SBS and confirmed that the contract stipulated the Portuguese star appear for 45 minutes. However, Ms Chang said she only found out that the 34- year-old would not be making an appearance 10 minutes into the second half. "When I went to argue with (Pavel) Nedved, the vice president of Juventus, all he said was 'I also wish Ronaldo ran, but he doesn't want to. Sorry, there's nothing I can do.' I was so frustrated," she said. South Korea's professional football governing body, K League, said a letter of protest has been sent to the Italian champions for violating the contract. Many fans have been voicing their anger at Ronaldo on social media. "He betrayed the 60,000 audience and belittled us," a fan who attended the match posted on Instagram. "I'm no longer a Ronaldo fan." |

Mass exodus hits Kano PDP as factional state exco defects to APC Mass exodus of party leaders has hit the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano State as Mas’ud Doguwa-led factional state executives defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. The publicity secretary of the faction, Musa Danbirni, confirmed the defection to DAILY NIGERIAN, saying they will address the press on Monday to state their reasons for dumping the party. gathered that 12 out of the 14 executives and thousands of their supporters, joined Mr Doguwa to dump the party on Sunday. On Saturday, top party leaders including former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Imam Buhari; former member of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Salik; former chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Council, Surajo Marshal; a grassroots mobiliser, Yahaya Bagobiri, among others expressed their resolve to support the re-election bid of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. In September last year, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP ignored a subsisting court order to dissolve Mr Doguwa-led exco and appoint a new exco loyal to a former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso. A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice N S. Umar, had restrained the national and state leadership of the PDP from tampering with the Kano state chapter of the party. Justice Umar in an interim order dated Aug. 28, ordered both the applicants and the respondents to maintain the status quo ante, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. Umar MaiGoro-Rano and four others dragged the national and Kano state leadership of the PDP before Justice Umar challenging the plans to restructure the party’s executive committee. The court ordered the respondents and any other person or persons to restrain from interfering or tampering with the tenure of the existing leadership of PDP in Kano state. “This honourable court restrains any other person or persons from disturbing and or intimidating the administration of the State, Local Government areas or ward officers from doing anything or taking any steps that are likely to interfere with or disturb the officers tenure which are protected under section 47 (1) and section 223(1) (a) of the 1999 constitution”, Justice Umar ruled. mynd44
