Tottenham triumph as Harry Redknapp and Jermain Defoe win Player and Manager of the Month awards

Tottenham Hotspur pair Jermain Defoe and Harry Redknapp have been rewarded for notching four wins from four to open their Premier League campaign by being named the Barclays Player and Manager of the Month for August.

Spurs began the season in blistering form, defeating Liverpool at White Hart Lane thanks to left fullback Benoit Assou-Ekotto's first Tottenham goal and new boy Sebastien Bassong’s second-half winner.

The following week saw England forward Jermain Defoe record a hat-trick away at Hull City, inspiring his resurgent side to a comprehensive 5-1 victory.

Defoe’s scoring form continued as he grabbed the equaliser in the next game, away at West Ham United, with Redknapp’s squad sealing a come-from-behind victory through right-winger Aaron Lennon’s late finish.

The North London club preserved their 100% record in August as Lennon's injury-time goal downed newly promoted Birmingham City 2-1. Peter Crouch opened his account for Spurs before a close-range Lee Bowyer effort set up the dramatic finale.

This is the first time that Defoe has won the award. He is the first Spurs recipient of the honour since forward pair Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov jointly claimed the prize in April 2007.

Redknapp is celebrating his sixth Barclays Manager of the Month honour, a total surpassed only by Sir Alex Ferguson (with 23) and Arsene Wenger (10).

The decision was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.

Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor slams Arsenal fans

https://i.media.goal.com/g/54337_news.jpg

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has criticised Arsenal supporters for the way they treated him during his time with the Gunners.

The Togolese international joined Mark Hughes' Manchester City revolution during the summer for an undisclosed fee following a turbulent 12 months with Arsene Wenger's side.

The 25-year-old endured something of a frustrating season last term and was even booed by sections of the Emirates Stadium crowd for a perceived lack of commitment to the north London club.

However, Adebayor has hit the ground running as a Citizen scoring three goals in as many Premier League games and he has now moved to point a finger of blame at Arsenal supporters.

"What is good at [Manchester] City is the fans. They love you. Arsenal have a lot of fans who are not fans," he told the Daily Telegraph.

"Arsenal have fans from America and Jamaica. Today they are Arsenal fans, tomorrow they will be Liverpool fans, after tomorrow they will be Manchester United fans.

"If you boo your player every weekend, I am very sorry, you are not true fans.

"It hurt me a lot. That was the most difficult moment of my career."

The former Monaco star could be lining up against former team mate Nicklas Bendtner when the Gunners travel to Eastlands today and Adebayor has anything but praise for the Danish attacker.

"Nicklas had a very easy route. He had the chance to be in the Arsenal academy, the chance to be an international for Denmark," he added.

"Football doesn't stop there. You are young, you have to learn. No matter what quality you have, you have to listen to people, let people help you be good.

"If Cristiano Ronaldo had gone to Manchester United and thought 'I'm good', he would not have become the best player in the world.

"He worked with the United players, tried to adapt his style. Those United players made him big, Nicklas just thinks he can make himself big.

"Nicklas showed me the finger [in the Carling Cup against Tottenham last year]. I am sorry, you cannot show your partner the finger."

Ok. Man City "Punked" Barca's first team in an "extremely vital" pre-season friendly. We can live with it. We have 5 trophies in the span of 6 months. Boo fukn hoo.

Tomorrow is the day of reckoning. Arsene Wenger is goin to get his arrogant, stubborn, trophy-less, underachieving ass handed to him. Can't wait to see the look on that pedophile's face when his boys are gettin raped by stallions. grin

I repeat, Adebayor hat trick!! grin Tomorrow might be the day that people will start taking rumors of Wenger gettin fired very very seriously. It is goin to be that bad. cool cool
