Aston Villa Agree £6m Deal With Manchester City For Richard Dunne – Report Aston Villa have agreed a £6 million fee with Manchester City for Republic of Ireland centre-back Richard Dunne, according to reports in The Daily Mail.
The City skipper would appear to be on the fringes of the team following the arrival of Joleon Lescott and is seeking a move away from Eastlands in search of first team football.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill had seemed set to land Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin but has now seemingly switched his attention to Dunne.
O'Neill has been keen to sign a central defender all summer following the departure of Zat Knight to Bolton Wanderers and, perhaps more crucially, the retirement of Martin Laursen through injury.
Dunne was a regular for the Citizens throughout last season but had an indifferent campaign as City leaked goals on a frequent basis.
The defender's arrival would be Villa's fourth signing of the summer, following the captures of Stewart Downing, Habib Beye and Fabian Delph.
Steven Warnock, though, is unlikely to be a fifth signing for the Villans, with Blackburn Rovers insistent on a £10m price tag for the left-back. http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2009/08/26/1462108/aston-villa-agree-6m-deal-with-manchester-city-for-richard-dunne- |

Sports › Nigeria Coach Shuaibu Amodu Not Keen On 'slow' Christian Obodo by khanye(op): 3:45pm On Aug 25, 2009 |
Nigeria coach, Shuaibu Amodu, has revealed that he has not considered a recall for Udinese midfielder Christian Obodo because he is slow and cannot fit into his team.
"Obodo is a very creative player, but the problem is that he is too slow for my team," Amodu told Soccer Star newspaper.
There has been a clamour for Amodu to play creative players in the midfield, so much so that there was a recent suggestion for former skipper Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha to come out of retirement and feature for the Super Eagles again.
"I don't think the issue of not being creative in the midfield should be much of a problem because we have been able to manage that to get to where we are," he added.
"We will continue to make use of our strong departments to cover up where we are lacking. We have to use our strengths."
Amodu also disclosed that victory is top priority for Nigeria in a make-or-break World Cup qualifier against Tunisia on September 6 in Abuja.
"The important thing is to win and get the three points that will give us the leadership of our group," he said.
After three rounds of matches, Nigeria are two points behind leaders Tunisia in Group Two of the qualifying series. Only the overall winner of the group will qualify for next year's World Cup in South Africa. http://www.goal.com/en/news/89/africa/2009/08/25/1460469/nigeria-coach-shuaibu-amodu-not-keen-on-slow-christian-obodo |

Jonas Gutierrez Could Sign For Barcelona In The Following Hours Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez could reinforce Barcelona in the next few hours, if negotiations between both clubs prosper.
Gutierrez, 26, has been looking for a move away from Newcastle United, in order to improve his chances of participating in the 2010 World Cup with Argentina. The Argentine admitted that he would be overjoyed to sign for Barca.
"The truth is they are a great team. They already demonstrated this last season by winning everything. For one, to be part of a great team is always a dream, to play with great players. But, right now it is something I try not to think about. I'm only thinking of Newcastle. But obviously, to play there is a dream for any player," said Gutierrez.
"They are a club who are doing things very well, they have great players and any player would like to play for this team," he insisted.
Gutierrez, who is a starter with the Argentine national team, believes he is a versatile player who can adapt to any kind of circumstances, and whether he remains at Newcastle or moves to the Catalans isn't of great concern to him.
"One tries to accommodate himself to what he needs, or to the coach, or to the team, or at the team where one plays. If I am asked to play as a side-back, one tries to do the best possible, always trying to progress. They are two positions that aren't too different to one another," affirmed the player.
In recent weeks Diego Maradona stated that playing at Newcastle United won't affect Gutierrez's position in the national team, if of course, he continues to play at a high level. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1706/barcelona/2009/08/21/1453526/jonas-gutierrez-could-sign-for-barcelona-in-the-following |

Sports › Yakubu And Obafemi Martins Not Picked By Nigeria For Tunisia World Cup Clash by khanye(op): 3:00pm On Aug 21, 2009 |
Nigeria will be without Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Obafemi Martins of Wolfsburg for next month’s crunch World Cup qualifier against Tunisia in Abuja.
Nigeria coach, Shuaibu Amodu, who announced a 21-man squad for the Group Two qualifier on September 6, said he left out both strikers because they are yet to attain full match fitness after recovering from injuries.
Yakubu was out with a long-term Achilles tendon injury, while Martins underwent surgery on a hernia in the summer.
However, Amodu has recalled Hoffenheim forward Chinedu Obasi for the Tunisia clash. He said he was delighted Obasi has recovered from an injury which prevented him from being part of the team in June.
Tunisa lead Group Two with seven points from three matches, two points more than closest rivals Nigeria.

IFELEKE: yeah i saw the goal. . .powerful effort. . .but eto'o is gone and Ibra is here let's not make the mistake of comparing him with eto'o. He is a great player who is under intense pressure to perform. . .I hope he does that on sunday and if he doesn't, we have people who will do the job fine till he gets his groove on. We did'nt pay him £66M to come and do big boy, I want Goals from him He needs to prove me wrong he's better than Eto'o Why should he be under pressure to perform? he needs to play his normal game. |
