Márquez given green light to play

Rafa Márquez has been given the green light to start playing again four months after he last played in an official encounter.

The Mexican central defender has been training with the rest of the squad in recent days, but it was not until he came through Thursday evening’s session unscathed that the club’s medics announced that he could be chosen for the squad to face Getafe this weekend.

Barcelona Livewire Andres Iniesta Declared Fit After 100 Days

Andres Iniesta has been given the green light to return to action after spending the entire summer recuperating from an injury.

Barcelona medics told the midfielder that he was fully fit after a round of tests on Wednesday morning saw him come through without any problems.

On May 10, Iniesta suffered a small tear in his thigh but he played through the pain to help the Blaugrana win the Champions League in Rome later that same month.

That encounter saw his condition worsen slightly and the Barca favourite has had to forego his summer holidays in order to regain his fitness.

As well as missing out on pre-season training, Iniesta was also unable to play for Spain in the Confederations Cup in June or the World Cup qualifiers that are taking place this week.

Barca have also been busy without their star as they have won the Supercopa de Espana against Athletic Club and claimed the UEFA Super Cup last month with victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in Monaco.

Iniesta will be named in Pep Guardiola's squad for the game against Getafe at the weekend, but it is unlikely that he will start.

Piqué, scores and Xavi Puyol and Busquets all start

The four Barca players in Vicente Del Bosque’s Spanish squad, Piqué, Puyol, Busquets and Xavi,
all started in Spain’s 5-0 hammering of Belgium and Pique was also one of the goalscorers.

Spain virtually booked their place in South Africa with the win in La Coruña and all the Barca players in the squad played their part in the convincing victory. As well as Pique, Villa and Silva both scored twice in the 5-0 win.

Ibrahimovic gets the points for Sweden

https://www.fcbarcelona.com/web/Imatges/2009-2010/futbol/noticies/jugadors_seleccions/ungsve485.jpg
Sweden needed a win against Hungary to keep their hopes of making the World Cup finals alive, but when Hustzi equalised Mehlberg’s earlier goal for the visitors it looked as if they’d have to settle for a draw before Ibrahimovic, playing despite suffering knee problems all week, popped up in injury time to give the Swedes the points. Sweden are third in Group 1, just a point behind Hungary, with Denmark top and virtually guaranteed winning the group.

Henry goal earns France a point

France were held to a 1-1 draw in Paris against Rumania thanks to a Thierry Henry goal and it looks as if they will have to settle for second place in their group and a place in the play offs. France are 4 points behind leaders Serbia and 4 ahead of third placed Austria with three games left to play.

Touré on target for Ivory Coast

Touré Yaya was on the score sheet in Ivory Coast’s 5-0 win over Burkina Faso, with Didier Drogba also grabbing a brace. The result puts Ivory Coast top of their group and looking good for South Africa.

Easy win for Ukraine

Barca’s latest signing Dmitry Chygrynsky played the full 90 minutes in Ukraine’s easy 5-0 win over Andorra. Ukraine lie third in Group 6, three points behind Croatia and seven adrift of leaders England.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Manchester United Under Scanner For Paul Pogba Signing by khanye(op): 12:33pm On Sep 04, 2009
After the ban imposed on Chelsea, the Red Devils are reportedly under the spotlight for the signing of a different youngster. . . . . .

Manchester United have come under the spotlight for the signing of Paul Pogba from French club Le Havre just hours after Chelsea were banned from making any signings until 2011 by FIFA for the illegal acquisition of Gael Kakuta from Racing Club de Lens.

A statement issued by Ligue 2 club Le Havre reads, "United offered very high sums of money to the parents with the aim of obtaining the transfer of their son.

"At a time when parties are speaking out against the 'trading of minors', Manchester United did not hesitate to uproot a 16-year-old kid."

The Red Devils have maintained that Pogba was not under contract with the club when he was signed, though the French club have stated otherwise.

Le Havre director Alain Belsoeur has proclaimed that the club will pursue their case with FIFA.

"We are still pursuing our case," Belsoeur told The Daily Mail.

"It is a very serious case. We are confident that we'll win because it is in the best interests not just of our club but of sport.

"We spend €5 million [£4.3m] on our academy every year out of a turnover of €12m [£10.5m]. It is a huge investment.

"We do that to give a chance to our players to develop for our first team, not to be an academy for others. What is the point of investing in an academy if the players leave at 16?

"This [ban on Chelsea] is clearly a message from FIFA to protect the education system."

Meanwhile, United have outrightly denied the allegations made by the French outfit. A club spokesman has said, "It is complete nonsense.

"Everything has been done within FIFA guidelines."

Maxwell returns to training

Maxwell returned to full training on Wednesday morning having been given the green light by doctors after they examined the injury that he sustained against Sporting de Gijón in the first game of the league season.

In a week when their has been an exodus of players due to the international call-ups, the Brazilian full-back was able to train again after suffering a thigh strain in the match on Monday. He was joined by only four other first-team regulars with José Manuel Pinto, Rafael Márquez, Pedro and Andrés Iniesta. Before the session began Maxwell underwent a thorough examination by the club's medics.

Víctor Valdés stayed inside the complex to do some specific training and Bojan Krkic continued with his recuperation programme after he tore a muscle in his left thigh.

Albert Dalmau, Sergi Robert and Sergi Espinosa were called up from the B side, Barça Atlètic, to make up the numbers for training.
