Since Alvaro Morata last scored for Chelsea FC, the man he came in to replace, Diego Costa has been on mad form.

Costa has knocked out Arsenal in the Europa League en route to winning the competition before then having an impressive World Cup despite Spain’s shock defeat to hosts Russia in the round of 16.

With Morata not named in Spain’s squad, Costa led the line and netted three goals in the tournament. Then, he started the club campaign with a bang by netting twice, including one just 49 seconds in, in the thrilling 4-2 UEFA Super Cup win over arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Most people who know anything about football will acknowledge that Chelsea replacing Diego Costa with Alvaro Morata has to go down as one of the worst decisions in recent memory.

A quite remarkable downgrade. Morata gets a lot of unnecessary flak but he just doesn’t have that big-game aura that Costa brings with him – as we saw last night when he bullied Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen this evening kidnapped a Methodist Presbyter in Osun State, Very Rev Kayode Akande, and two other church leaders along the Iwo-Osogbo Road.

One of the clerics in the church told newsmen that the priest and two others were forcefully taken away by the suspected Fulani herdsmen around 7pm.

The source also said the abducted persons were coming in company with others from a meeting held at Ile Ogbo when the criminals stopped their vehicles and took them away. He said;

"They were returning to Osogbo from Ile Ogbo when suspected Fulani herdsmen abducted them. They went for a meeting in respect of Father’s Day and they were on their way back to Osogbo when the incident happened.

"The criminals released others and the two cars in which they were traveling and took away the three of them. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, was contacted and he acted promptly.

"In fact, policemen have been deployed in the road immediately and they have been combing the bushes and I just pray they would get these people quickly. We are all praying to God so that these hoodlums would not harm these people.”

The Bishop of Methodist Church, Osogbo Diocese, Most Rev. Amos Ogunrinde, when contacted confirmed the incident to our correspondent. He said;

“Some suspected armed Fulani herdsmen abducted three of our people this evening. They were coming from Ile Ogbo and they were abducted at a town called Telemu

“I think these people are not genuine herders but criminals. I don’t think they are those herdsmen killing but they are armed robbers and that was why they didn’t kill them but took them away.

“They were eight coming together, the criminals took away three of them and released five of them. They are criminals. They have not got in touch with the families of the three persons. I just returned from the wife of one of the victims now and I was not told of anything like that.”

Ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup tournament in Russia, Econet Media has extended the reach of its pan-African media company, Kwesé, by launching its pay-television operation in Liberia, and its digital service, Kwesé iflix, in Zimbabwe.

The launch of Kwesé TV in Liberia comes through a partnership with Orange™, which will serve as the official distributor of the platform in the West African country. Kwesé’s free-to-air channel, Kwesé Free Sports was launched in Liberia last year and sports fans in the country will now have access to the full service.

The launch comes ahead of national team football tournament the 2018 Fifa World Cup, which Kwesé TV holds pay-television rights to. Liberian football fans will now be able to watch African nations -Nigeria, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco compete in Russia.
Liberian audiences will be familiar with Kwesé’s free-to-air channel (FTA)

The broadcaster will unveil its full-suite of top-shelf content which encompasses all programming genres namely sports, music, movies, series, kids, lifestyle, faith, news programming and so much more.

Commenting on the distribution partnership with Econet Media, Mr Mamadou Coulibaly, Orange Liberia CEO said, “This is a great day for Liberia and for Orange. Our customers will be able to enjoy a whole new experience with Kwesé TV. We are really proud to be distributing Kwesé TV satellite service in our shops and to provide access to the content on our superfast 4G LTE mobile network.”

“This is the first time customers will enjoy a multi-screen experience in Liberia; seamlessly accessing their favourite programs at home on their TV or on the go with their mobile phone. We believe there are more innovative content services to enjoy and we will carry on to work hard with Econet Media to deliver them to Liberians.”

Orange Liberia’s Corporate Communications Strategist Dr Kimmie Weeks termed the new offer as the first major breakthrough between a telecommunications company and a major satellite-based telecommunications network.

“The new partnership with Kwesé TV comes just ahead of the start of the 2018 World Cup, and Kwesé TV has acquired the rights to broadcast all the 64 games. This launch is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that all Liberians have an affordable access to this global phenomenon everywhere in the country since Kwesé TV is a satellite service available absolutely everywhere in Liberia,” Dr Weeks said.

Similarly, Kwesé iflix – a joint venture between Econet Media and online streaming service iflix – has launched in Zimbabwe.
Kwesé iflix will also offer live coverage of the World Cup, alongside other sporting content including certain games from North American basketball league in the NBA.

​Popular singer, Folarin Falana, popularly called Falz has called for the restructuring of the Nigeria Police over security issues in the country.

Falz stated this while addressing his highly debated ‘This is Nigeria’ video which touches on many issues including the Nigeria police ,corruption and online fraud, also known as ‘yahoo yahoo’.

In an interview with CNBC, the singer cum actor explained that he was inspired to tell the Nigerian story through his music over his disappointment in how ills are being celebrated and normalized in the country.

“I feel like we need to stay at a heightened level of social consciousness and political awareness out here because everyone is seemingly distracted by entertainment… that we sort of forget we’re facing a lot of struggles as a country.

“At the end of the day, money is very important. People need to make money, even I need to make money. But I feel like at every interval we need to stop and think. We need to pause and look around. Are we becoming too insensitive?”

“It’s very appalling and it’s very disturbing that the irregular has become regularised and more people now look at things that should be frowned upon as normal.

“Oh you know it’s just hustle, they’re just trying to make ends meet meanwhile that is blatantly a crime, that is blatantly wrong.

“I didn’t feel any need to take back what I said about Yahoo boys and I still stood by what I said. I readdressed the point in my ‘This is Nigeria’ video.”

Falz, further addressed insecurity issue in the country, adding that the police are not protecting lives and needs revamp.

“The serious insecurity issue that we have right now, nobody is secure.

“The police force that is supposed to be enforcing law and order aren’t really doing that if we’re going to be honest. In my opinion, the entire police force needs a complete revamp.

“People constantly in the north being killed, being kidnapped. It’s really disturbing. And that what I said earlier about insensitivity.

“We’re all carried away by everything that is going on. We’re forgetting that everyday little girls, little children are being kidnapped, being killed and it’s just not right,” Falz added.

​Opeyemi Bamidele, a former house of representatives member, has been moved to Lagos for post-surgery treatment, says Ahmed Salami, his media aide.

Salami said there are no equipment and personnel to treat his principal in Ekiti.

Bamidele was hit by bullets on Friday when a policeman released sporadic gunshots at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.

The incident took place on the campaign trail of Kayode Fayemi, the party’s candidate for the July 14 governorship election.

According to his aide, Bamidele was immediately taken to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) and was reported to be responding to treatment.

But in a statement on Sunday, Salami said Bamidele had to be relocated for follow-up treatment.

“Let me put on record that his being taken to Lagos was caused by gross dearth of equipment and personnel at EKSUTH,” he said.

“As much as we salute the proficiency and commitments of the doctors in the hospital, let me also add that many of the consultants and equipment used in performing the surgery were hired from other hospitals.

“To forestall a situation whereby we have to rely on bringing equipment that were readily available in other hospitals down to Ekiti to treat him, we decided to shift him to such hospital to fast-track his recuperation.”

Salami said Bamidele, who was hit in the stomach and legs, was flown to Lagos in an ambulance chopper Sunday evening.

“Though Bamidele’s health has stabilised appreciably, but there was a need for him to go for post-surgery treatments to ensure quick convalescence for him to be able to join Dr Fayemi’s campaign train, of which he has been playing a pivotal role,” he added.

The police on Saturday said a politician conspired with a mobile policeman to carry out the disruption at the party secretariat.

According to Caleb Ikechukwu, police spokesman in Ekiti, both the policeman and the politician have been arrested.

Meanwhile, the APC in Ekiti has announced the suspension of its gubernatorial campaign.

Jide Awe, APC chairman in Ekiti, said the suspension will remain in place until the police can guarantee the safety of its gubernatorial candidate and other members of the party.

Awe said the shooting was an attempt to take the life of Fayemi.

​The Department of State Services (DSS) on Sunday recalled half of its operatives officially allocated to Senate President Bukola Saraki and the speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

This is coming ahead of Monday’s talks between Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and the nPDP team to be led by Dogara.

Saraki is also a member of nPDP, the faction that broke away from the PDP in 2013 to team up with APC for the 2015 elections.

Also, the security operatives attached to the two presiding officers of the national assembly were directed to report to the DSS headquarters “with immediate effect”.

No reason was given for the withdrawal, although it is believed to have been at the instance of the presidency.

Reliable sources at the National Assembly have confirmed the recall of the operatives.

The nPDP had recently issued an ultimatum to APC for a meeting, complaining that it had been marginalised by the ruling party after helping them to oust the PDP from power in 2015.
