Dogalmighty17: California is the 4th largest economy in the world. California is wealthier than all the countries in Africa combined. Yet the governor of California, Gavin Newsom's convoy is just 2 cars.
Nigeria, with its brain dead president and this woman that calls herself a pastor, leaders of a country that has to borrow to survive because of the terrible economic policies of the APC, has one of the largest presidential convoys on earth. Aisha Buhari never did something as stupid as this. What powers does the wife of the president have to be driven in such a large convoy? Don’t be too emotional about things. Fine all of us want better Nigeria that was damaged long ago but not by condemning everything you are well acquitted with. When vip politicians are around like her husband are around for events, not only Lagos state governor will be in the convoy, neighboring states governors too will be in the convoy, so also other politicians too will be there with their convoys. I dislike wastages but the truth must be told, let’s stop being emotional because of politics. |

quickly: The title of Alaafin later was for a men like Sango who in those days were like Army General/ Leader of Warriors.
It’s like Ooni is president and Alaafin is Chief of Army.
Back then Alaafin was a strong man while Ooni was the throne of his grandfather. I quite love your analogy, that is the reason why he gives the tittle of Aare onaKakanfo, which is like the military general and Ooni don’t even question that due to the analogy you just used. It’s quite exhausting why some folks can’t use their heads to understand simple logic issues. |

Amalekki: Ife was unstable due to several forces at play. Oranmiyan the powerful warrior king left his most powerful offspring in Oyo to stabilize the house of commotion at Ife as leader. He was not Ooni, he was Olofin. His presence brought stability and he had no concern about the might of his house at Oyo.
Fathers can leave a throne completely in the hands of who they see as competent. The father of the current Ooni of Ife is alive.
About 150 years ago when Ooni of Ife and the people of Ife were chased out of Ife by Modakekes, Oranmiyan's offspring at Oyo got the Bashorun, now at Ibadan, to ensure the return of Ife people after almost 13 years in the nearby bushes.
They are still connected, Oranmiyan's most powerful offsprings from the days of his youth are the Oyos. Not again! Who told you this blatant lies abi is it from your imagination being an Oyo abi modakeke indigene. I’m tired replying you and your Oyo folks How dare modekeke that was accommodated after being displaced by fulanis and became wanderers in the forest. Was there fight between ife and modakeke? YES, when they wanted to over step their boundaries. But they never, never chase ife out. What even happened is that their brothers in Oyo help them to fight ife in latest fights between the two that is when even Sunday Igboho also fought Ile-ife and believe you me no one not even all you Oyos can overcome ile-ife. Even Sunday Igboho and rest of them that supported Modakeke have come to begged and seek forgiveness. |

History make us known that alaafin of oyo throne is higher than oba of benin throne.. if u make research yourself my typing in Google first class obas in yourba land you will see it Yoruba.. Probably you goggled first class Obas in Yorubaland and not how traditional rulers are placed in Nigeria. For instance when Prince Charles, now king of England visited Nigeria, Aalafin couldn’t even make it to see him and take photographs of first class kings in Nigeria with him. The reasons i don’t know because I thought he suppose to be there but right now the protocol says that Oba of Benin kingdom is regarded above Aalafin. Morenikeji090: Oba of Benin is 3rd position coz Benin throne belong to Yoruba… oni of Ile ife and Alaafin of oyo are superior to him… I don’t think so, presently the protocol is that Oba of Benin is ranked higher than the Aalafin traditionally. Maybe because Oranmiyan founded Benin before Oyo. After Ooni and Sultan who are the permanent co chairmen of Traditional ruler council of Nigeria the next is Oba of Benin. Though I stand to be corrected. |

seunmsg: Please stop the misinformation. The title of the thread is a gross misrepresentation of the story you posted and a figment of your imagination. You can’t withdraw a title you did not confer so kindly change your title and stop the misrepresentation.
To start with, Ooni never at any time conferred Okanlomo of Yoruba land on anyone. The title in contention is Okanlomo of Oodua so it’s wrong to claim the title was withdrawn. Nothing like that happened.
Secondly, Alaafin has no such power to confer any title that goes beyond Oyo Atiba not to talk of Oyo state. Anyone claiming he has a title that covers the entire Yoruba land is just a joker. No such title exists. I’m from Ekiti and we don’t recognize any title from any Alaafin.
Again, Yoruba people never came together to confer on Alaafin the power to rule over Yoruba land or confer titles that covers the region. Yes, Alaafin through military conquest once ruled over a significant part of Yoruba land but not all. Even at that, that Oyo empire is dead and buried. And yes, it lost the military power it once held with the complete destruction of Oyo Ile at Katunga.
The Oyo at Ago Oja is not the same Oyo that ruled over an empire. It is a modern creation at Ago Oja with no military might. In fact, this Oyo owe its existence to the benevolence of Ibadan warriors. So, you can’t transfer the powers of a dead empire to small town that was only created to preserve history. It is not a power that is inherent. The powers of the Roman Empire died with the Roman Empire. Please help me that young man again o, he is misinforming people and even lack knowledge as regards the subject matter. I don’t know what is wrong with our young folks without so much knowledge about something they rush to social media with misinformation. |

Biodun556: Yoruba land title belongs to Alaafin. Oodua and Ile ife titles belongs to Ooni
While Ife is the cradle of the Yorubas, Ife never had administrative and military control over Yoruba land. Oyo did.
Unification and naming of Yoruba tribe is Oyo legacy
If not for Oyo, Fulani would have invade every parts of Yoruba land.
The supremacy issue was one of the reasons why Osun state was calved out of Oyo state so that the two most supreme Yoruba kings won't clash. So why would Ooni go to Ibadan and give someone Yoruba land title ? Ohhh u be Oyo indigene abi na supporters club u be No wonder you came with a wrong tittle and explanation that is difficult to comprehend . No wonder! Please do yourself a favour even though you are Oyo abi Oyo ile indigene to acquit yourself with the true story or history of Yoruba land as regards Ooni and Aalafin. |

Your title is WRONG.
Nothing is being withdrawn
Okanlomo Oodua is what was actually given to the man, Dotun Sanusi.
This is even beyond Yorubaland only, oodua spreads across south west, south south and even north central like kogi and kwara state.
Let’s be factual with our reportage. |
Culture › Re: Okanlomo Title: Nigerians Await Alaafin’s Next Move As 48-hour ‘royal Ultimatum’ by Kindledlight(m): 5:02pm On Aug 21, 2025 |
yemmit90: From the book of history, Alaafin of Oyo empire is the real son of Oduduwa with first hand access to his dynasty. Oranmiyan being the last son of Okanbi, after his other six brothers has left Ile-ife, appointed Adimula as a place holder when he was about to leave.
Oranmiyan eventually settle at present Oyo empire and became first Alaafin. It was learnt that all Yoruba King's were used to pay homages to only Alaafin as supreme king in Yoruba land. The Ooni title/ rulling houses in Ile-Ife Town of today are lineage of Placeholder Adimula.
If we are to judge by history, Ile-Ife is ancestral home of Yoruba, and Alaafin of Oyo is the head of Oduduwa (the founder of Yoruba ethnic) dynasty. Therefore, he is the one in right position to appoint Yoruba cultural leaders.
But in another instance, if Oranmiyan 6 other brothers could not return to claim their father's throne, Alaafin too should not be poking noses on what is going on in his ancestral home. If he is to claim right, he should simply fight for his father throne and become Ooni, even in far away Oyo empire.
Maybe someone who know better can enlighten me on this. You quoted a history written or told by an Oyo indigene many of which are supporting their king selected by Seyi Makinde. Believe you me this not the true story of what Yoruba history as concern Ooni and Aalafin. |

As Chief priest and occupier of the seat of Oduduwa, tradition puts Ooni first and as projeny of the ruler of the old Oyo empire, one of the most politically important kingdoms in Western Africa, politics puts Alaafin first. Politics don’t even put Alaafin first as of today even Oba of Benin is superior to him when recognizing first class traditional rulers in Nigeria. Brenbentondiaz: The Ooni is the true traditional leader, as he was the first ruler based on Ife being taken as the origin of the Yorubas. The Alaafin was a powerful monarch that oversaw the expansion of Yoruba territory via the Oyo Empire. So, traditionally the Ooni is superior, while the Alaafin is more important military wise. franchasofficia: Ooni of Ife - Chief Priest of Yoruba land
Alaafin of Oyo - Chief of Army Staff of Yoruba land
Who then is the Commander in Chief of both? Could it be Olubadan, Awujale of Ijebu land abi Alake of Egba land? You think so ?? But you are wrong, see Oduduwa, is the progenitor of Yoruba race who founded ile-ife, the cradle of Yoruba race and automatically the first Ooni of ile-ife. Now Oranmiyan who after leaving Benin left for Oyo is the son of Oduduwa (the first Ooni of ile-ife). Now tell me can a son be said to more powerful or above his father because he was powerful to establish an empire of which doesn’t exist any longer FYI the crown worn by Oduwawa called Ade Are is still in ile-ife, worn by successive Ooni, until Alaafin start wearing that crown before I believe he is the arole oduduwa, the successor of the progenitor of Yoruba race. |

Unfortunately, in this age, the traditional monarchical authorities are under the control of elected politicians who now have the powers to enthrone and dethrone.
The current nationally recognised preeminence of Ooni of Ife cannot be removed by this gra gra by the new Alaafin. Yes, the history books have the enviable tales of the rise and fall of great OYO EMPIRE but we are in a different period now. He needs to be less confrontational as he is painting himself more of a THUG on the throne than a royal father. You are very apt with your comments.
