Many of you Nairalanders call me Zulu to insult me, which defeats the purpose because I'm Sotho. So, I often laugh at you.

I am a MoSotho and I speak SeSotho. We make up roughly 8% of South Africa's population and historically originate from the snowy mountain kingdom of Lesotho which is ruled by King Letsie III, and is completely surrounded by South Africa, and our national animal is the horse.

The iconic elements of the BaSotho culture are our blankets and hats (which are featured in the Wakanda movie), as well as the horse and snowy landscapes.

It is interesting to know that there are more Basotho people in SA than in Lesotho which has a population of 2.3 million people, compared to almost 5 million in South Africa.

Most Sotho people in SA are concentrated in Lesotho's neighbouring SA provinces of the Free State, Gauteng, North West and the Eastern Cape.

The Sotho people are most related to the Tswana people of Botswana and BaPedi people found in the northern-most province of Limpopo in South Africa. The 3 groups belong to the so-called Sotho languages.

Contrary to the insults on Nairaland, Zulus belong to the Nguni group made up of other tribes including the Xhosa, Swatis from Eswatini and Ndebele from Zimbabwe.

So hope next time you're tempted to call me Zulu - you'll notice how i just don't give a dang.

Shalom.

Enjoy the pics of my Sotho people.

Let's do a quick historical analysis of NIGERIAS ROLE IN MAKING YOU

Nigeria’s Role in Ending Apartheid in South Afrika

In March 1960, 69 black people were massacred in Sharpeville, South Africa, by the white apartheid police. That same year, Nigeria successfully liberated itself from 160-year British occupation. The new Nigeria’s leaders’ reaction to the Sharpeville massacre has changed everything in South Africa from then on. Here is a letter Nigeria’s Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa sent to the African National Congress

Immediately after sending the letter, Sir Balewa lobbied for the effective expulsion of South Africa from the Commonwealth in 1961. Beyond political support, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was the first leader to provide a direct financial aid to the ANC from the early 1960s. At the height of the liberation movement in the 1970s, Nigeria alone provided $5-million annual subvention to the ANC and the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) annually.

In 1976, Nigeria set up the Southern Africa Relief Fund (SAFR) destined to bring relief to the victims of the apartheid regime in South Africa, provide educational opportunities to them and promote general welfare. The military administration of General Obasanjo contributed $3.7 million to the fund. Moreover, General Obasanjo made a personal donation of $3,000, while each member of his cabinet also made personal contributions of $1,500 each. All Nigeria’s civil servants and public officers made a 2% donation from their monthly salary to the SAFR. Students skipped their lunch to make donations, and just in 6 months, in June 1977, the popular contribution to the fund reached $10.5 million.

The donations to the SAFR were widely known in Nigeria as the “Mandela tax”. As a result of the fund’s work, a first group of 86 South African students arrived in Nigeria in 1976, following the disruption of the education system in South Africa. It happened after the massacre of 700 students by the white police while the former were protesting against the decision by the apartheid regime to change their education language to Afrikaans.

Hundreds of South African students have benefited from the fund’s activity having come to study in Nigeria for free. Beyond welcoming students and exiles, Nigeria had also welcomed many renowned South Africans like Thabo Mbeki (former South African president from 1999 to 2008). He had spent 7 years in Nigeria, from 1977 to 1984, before he left to the ANC headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia.

For South Africans, who could not travel abroad because the apartheid regime had withdrawn their passports, Nigeria’s government issued more than 300 passports. Along with fellow African countries Nigeria lobbied for the creation of the United Nations Special Committee against Apartheid and chaired it for 30 years, longer than any other country. Between 1973 and 1978, Nigeria contributed $39,040 to the UN Educational and Training Programme for Southern Africa, a voluntary trust fund promoting education of the black South African elite.

As for trade, Nigeria had refused to sell oil to South Africa for decades in protest against the white minority rule. Nigeria had lost approximately $41 billion during that period. Above all, Nigeria was the only nation worldwide to set up the National Committee Against Apartheid (NACAP) as early as in 1960. The committee’s mission was to disseminate the evils of the apartheid regime to all Nigerians from primary schools to universities, in public media and in markets, through posters and billboards messages. The NACAP was also responsible for the coordination of Nigeria’s government and civil society joint anti-apartheid actions and advising of policy makers on anti-apartheid decisions.

For over three decades the NACAP had successfully built alliances with labor movement, student groups, progressive elements and other international grassroots organizations within Nigeria for effective anti-apartheid activities. In fact, until 1960s, the ANC fight against the apartheid regime in South Africa was yielding very small results. The whole world was quite indifferent to the suffering of the black South Africans. Moreover, western countries strongly supported the apartheid regime providing it with technologies, intelligence and favorable trade agreements. Things started changing dramatically only after African countries became independent in the 1960s.

Nigeria unequivocally took over leadership of the anti-apartheid movement worldwide. Despite the volatile nature of Nigeria’s politics and the passage of numerous military and civil leaders, Nigeria has never abandoned its unwavering commitment to the freedom of our brothers and sisters in South Africa. From 1960 to 1995, Nigeria has alone spent over $61 billion to support the end of apartheid, more than any other country in the world, according to the South African Institute of International Affairs.

The country has never let go of any opportunity to denounce apartheid, from the boycott of Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games to the nationalization of British Petroleum assets in 1979.

Unfortunately, our brothers and sisters in South Africa have not been grateful to Nigeria. When Mandela passed away in 2013, Nigeria’s president was not even given the opportunity to speak. At the same time, the representatives of the US and the UK, two countries supporting the apartheid regime, were in the spotlight. Nigerians still need visas to travel to South Africa, while the French, who used to back the apartheid regime, can just buy a ticket and go wherever they want.

Maybe, apartheid has not yet ended in South Africa.

What a drivel. A whole lot of hogwash.
I just told you to embrace education, raise a structured family, stop stabbing fellow Africans and face your white tormentors, and you are here measuring dikcs. Let me tell you a bit of your history; The whole South African military industrial complex is a product of the apartheid regimes. At a point during the apartheid era, South Africa was rumoured to have been armed with nukes! You know why? Because your oppressors, (your new white friends) worried that African countries were planning to attack, just to free the trapped South African blacks from the apartheid bondage.

You talk about black South Africans buildings South Africa, and I'm supposed to listen to this as if i walked into this continent few hours ago? You have new airports and speed rails and all what not, and they're owned and managed by who? Obviously, you are struggling to understand the points i have been repeating here, so i will try to rephrase.

1) South African blacks need to start the process of OWNING their country. You know why? As it stands today, for all your chestbeating, the same whites that oppressed and maimed you for fun in the past decades, own the country. They own the banks, the insurance companies, the steel companies, the mines, the press, the energy companies, the sports teams.., name them. All the major mines are white owned. You are more or else "picking cottons" over there as blacks.

2) If they whites own the economy and still treat you with so much disrespect in your own country, it obviously means that the government is dancing to their whims and caprices, since they are the ones dictating the tunes! And there is no political independence without a corresponding economic independence . The whites are still in control of everything.

As long as they're still in charge and you're doing menial jobs for them, for which they feed you to pigs if you trespass or disobey, you are their slaves. You can't even get back your lands that they stole and you are here forming woke. All of a sudden, the whites and the blacks are now some siamese twins. All loved up in some South African glory. Yet, they will blast off your heads, if you dare enter into any of their neighbourhoods.

3) When i talk about building the BEURIFUL country called South Africa, I'm not talking of the wobbly contributions of a clan of pugnacious peasants quartered in Soweto, who in their hobbesian splendour, were contacted by their apartheid overlords to do some menial jobs. I'm talking about the real builders of the South African economy and state. Those whose finances developed the mines that feeds your tax net. The white governments that laid the basic foundations of the modern South Africa of today. I'm afraid i have to be blunt here; You were never part of that story. Apartheid knocked you down and out, untill we, the rest of Africa, rescued you guys.

4) We have our flaws over here! We would be the first to wail about it. But always remember that Nigerians
own theirshit! The banks. They own their airports, their seaports, refineries.., endless black investments in the oil industry. Warts and all, every single university in this country was built by blacks. These could not have happened, if blacks over here didn't fight for their place within the Nigerian economy. By always prioritising attacks against Africans over your perennial white oppressors, you transfer aggression and stay stagnant. Black Africans are not taking jobs that you can do, they're taking jobs that you are either lazy or not skilled enough to do. Deal with it!

Moreover, you don't project white faces as the magnificient symbols of post apartheid South Africa, all these after being fed to pigs by the same whites, then expect serious minds to take you serious. The same whites that have been tormenting you for eternity were here in Nigeria. We fought them to a standstill during the independence struggles, untill they turned tail and ran. You can't be fawning at the feet of some racists dingbats, who treat you like you are a colony of bonobos, then turn around to mock someone who drove the same whites away from his country as far back in the 60s, as "worshipping the whites". That's rich.

It doesn't work that way. Improve yourself, have proper families, stop reaching for your cudgels at the slightes provocation, then come talk to Nigerians. We have our problems here, but worshipping whites and killing other Africans for fun, is not one of them
Lol. Embrace my education? Dude Compare your literacy rates to ours.. and see who has a long way to go.. Nigeria has the highest rates of out of school children in the world, clearly your message is misdirected here.

Yes, we have new infrastructure, new universities, new hospitals, high-speed trains, etc all built by,
owned and managed by the black government boss.. you think the Shaka Zulu airport in Durban of yesterday was built by what? Your beloved whites? who do you think owns public hosipitals , universities, etc? your white gods ? Credit them all you want the fact of thr matter you've barely moved an an inch since your independence and the strides of South Africa since our democracy are the crux of your bitterness. Right now as we speak, load shedding has decreased so much, why? Because of the two new power plants built by the black government , what has Nigerian done to solve its electricity problems? Nothing! Give credit where it's due and stop hiding behind the by now played-out white excuse.

Lol. You supposedly own your country but can't stay put in it.. so what's the point? I'm yet to see a South African drowning in some ocean trying to reach oyinbo country by hook or crook. It's an indictment on the state of your country. Lol,if really If im so called" cotton picker" you're clearly a born refugee, born to flee your country to leech on the sweat of other men in ready made countries lke South Africa.l, whats stopping you from developing your own country? the country you claim you own but live like a pauper while you're corrupt politicians are living it up in Dubai? By virtue of me being a black south African, I enjoy amenities Nigerians are light years away from enjoying and achieving.

And please stop projecting Nigeria like some Pan-African hero here. Your region was once called the "slave coast" for a reason..you sold your own to slavery boss, stop coming here to lie. The Zulus and the Khoi fought European invasion, you sold your own because you were coons then and coons even now. You also "rescued" no one, I don't recall seeing a Nigerian dying for our liberation, we know those we're indebted to, but you are not one of them. Sorry!

You cannot credit a thriving economy now due to what people did then m0r0n. Your beloved whites left the South African state bankrupt! The black government essentially inherited a bankrupt state.. when the economy is up and running.. due to the policies of a black government credit whites again Right? Typical Nigerian line of reasoning.

Nobody kills other Africans for sport here, which is another indication you're clueless of what you're talking about. You should be focusing on your barbaric culture of ritual killings instead of grandstanding

Tourists are not going to Somalia or Afghanistan.
They are coming to South Africa because of the superb infastructures put in place by the WHITE ECONOMY. The catchprase here is "WHITE ECONOMY". Very important for you. Always remember that.

If South Africa was like Sudan or Yemen, folks will rather be migrating out of that place. The only tourists you will be seeing would have been some peace keepers. We need to establish the fact that it was the white economy that set up the present industrial/economic realities in South Africa! You know why it'simportant to do so?

You blacks run your murderous mouths a lot. You are the only set of black Africans that treat other Africans with some sort of congenital levity. You tell Zimbabweans and Nigerians to go and build their countries, more than white South Africans, who actually built South Africa.

So, I'm a little surprised you are trying to preach black brotherhood to me. Why do you guys not remember black brotherhood when you burn them Mozambicans on the streets of Joburg, for all sorts of flimsy reasons?
1. Quote where I tried "preaching brotherhood" to you, We are not brothers, skinfolk is not kinfolk.. .I pointed out that the white excuse is expected from a people wallowing in inferiority and white worship like you Nigerians. Paint SA in a good light, Nigerians will be the first people to come out with guns-blazing attributing everything to whites, you're obsessed with them, we know that by now.

2. Tourists don't go to countries for their infrastructure, there are countries with worse infrastructure than that of South Africa but with thriving tourist industries, so this argument won't fly with me, tourists visit countries for their culture, food, foreign exchange, history, nature, safety etc.. You don't have much of a tourist industry so you won't relate.

3. South Africa was built by the blood and sweat of a black man and continues to do so to this day.. the development continues.. while you remain stagnant, (the crux of your saltiness) if a country's economy is doing well are you telling me it's not the direct results of the government for creating conditions or policies suitable for the economy of the country to thrive? or the main participants themselves (the people) aren't the drivers of their economic prosperity? Your 6% of your beloved white population are? LOL! As I said, you have little grasp of how economics works. just stick to praise-sing of whites, it's literally what you Nigerians do best.

4. illegal Zmbos and Nigerians have to go and improve their own countries instead of flooding us with their criminals and burdening our social systems. I am not going to be apologetic about that.

5"The only set of blacks that treat other Africans akin to congenital levity" Really? And this is coming from someone from the hotbed of tribalism, right? This hypocrisy, victimhood, fake outrage, and fake pan-Africanism won't work with me, unfortunately! We know of your rampant tribalism, your Igbophobia, your disdain for your fellow Yoruba or Igbo.. we know it runs deep in your social fabric, in your politics.. So who are you to lecture us about Xenophobia?

6. You're already emigrating out of that hot mess in numbers, even drowning in oceans doing so...are you insinuating you're already like Yemen and Sudan?

7. Whether you like it or not, the South African government, with all its flaws is better than your government, that's why we get to achieve these type of feats. That's why we have new state-of-the-art airports, universities, roads, hospitals, new power plants, high-speed trains etc..and you have none.. continue attributing everything to the whiteman.. we know it cushions the blow
