Politics / Dogara’s Deal, Gbajabiamila’s Gain by KingKonga: 11:11am On Jul 31, 2015
Signs of unity pervaded the atmosphere in the early hours of yesterday morning as members of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the first time sat down as a team to pronounce peace between the one time warring factions.
Dogara and Gbajabiamila
Dogara and Gbajabiamila
“There are no more factions in the House what we have today is a group of lawmakers loyal to the House leadership and our great party,” Speaker Dogara said following his gesture of conciliation towards his one-time rival, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila who he conceded the office of House Leader to.
His words were echoed by Gbajabiamila, the minority leader in the immediate past House who has now been transformed into the majority leader.
In the meeting in House Room 028, members of the two camps openly reconciled and apologised for the harsh words that had been traded and sought to move the House towards achieving their initial objective of coming to the House.
The peace deal between Speaker Dogara and Gbajabiamila was worked out Tuesday afternoon in the office of the clerk while many of the House members were in the chambers at a session presided over by the deputy speaker, Yusuf Lashun from Osun State.
The prospects for peace at the beginning of that Tuesday, however, had not looked promising especially after supporters of Dogara after a meeting resolved to heed the party’s injunction for peace halfway. In their resolution which they adopted as adopting the party’s position as amended, they had resolved that they would take the instructions of the party national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun by returning some of those nominated by the party for the principal offices: Ado Doguwa (Kano) for House Leader, Bala Jibrin (Kogi) for Deputy Leader, Pally Iriase (Edo) for Chief Whip and Chike Okafor (Imo) for Deputy Leader. In adherence to the principle of federal character, the Dogara group at their last caucus meeting which ended sometime around 00.30 hours on Tuesday morning had rejected the plea for Gbajabiamila to become House Leader on the premise that his Southwest zone had already produced the deputy speaker of the House.
However, their will was, however, reportedly broken later in the day upon pressures from the presidency that weighed in for Gbajabiamila to get the position. “From the body language of the president it was obvious he wanted Femi, and we could not go ahead to disparage the wishes of the leader of the party,” a source in the Dogara camp said. The development caught many of Dogara’s supporters unawares, but it was not as if they were offended, especially as the decision on Tuesday immediately punctured the air of bickering that had characterised relationships on the floor since that decisive leadership contest of June 9, 2015, when Dogara defeated Gbajabiamila narrowly for the speakership.
Principal officer
The development, however, left the Southeast with the short-end of the stick as for the first time, one geopolitical zone in the country failed to produce a principal officer in the complement of principal officers of the ruling party. Rep. Austin Chukwukere, APC, Ideato North/South,Imo State was quick to flay the decision saying their people felt abandoned. “We are not happy over our exclusion and the way the party has abandoned us despite what we passed through during the election to ensure that APC has representation in our place. Our constituents have been calling us over this development, and we have not heard from the party why the injustice should be meted on us,”
Following the unity meeting yesterday, Speaker Dogara was, however, quick to reassure the people of the Southeast that they would be adequately compensated saying ““we are already working on that to see how the zone will be adequately compensated”.
Gbajabiamila was equally assuring of a compensation for the people saying “it is not right to play the ethnicity or regional card for now, but they will be adequately compensated”.The Southeast it was learnt may be adequately compensated through juicy committee positions.
The development may also leave the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP caucus in a quandary. The caucus and indeed, the national leadership of the party had been supportive of Dogara and had rejoiced in the wake of the crisis in the party exploiting the division to foster its own political agenda of decimating the new ruling party.
With the assumed unity in the ruling party, the PDP caucus in the House led by Rep. Leo Ogor, one of the most experienced members of the House would now have to ponder new options for political ascendancy.

Politics / Pdp’s Accusation Against DSS Boss Absurd, Frivolous – APC by KingKonga: 1:33pm On Jul 30, 2015
The All Progressives Congress has denied the allegation by the Peoples’ Democratic Party that the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Lawal Daura, is a card-carrying member of the party (APC), calling the accusation absurd
and frivolous

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party challenged the PDP to publish any evidence it may have to confirm the allegation, adding that ”After all, he who alleges must prove.”

”In the absence of that, the PDP must call another press conference to publicly apologise to all Nigerians for engaging in barefaced lies,” it said.

APC expressed shock that the PDP had started exhibiting all the symptoms of hallucination so soon after its gravy train derailed, saying it’s obvious that the party had now started hearing voices.

”We know that the psyche of the PDP has been badly affected by its loss of power at the centre. Even the party itself has admitted that much. That situation has now been compounded by the fact that the party is broke. It is therefore not a surprise that it is no longer able to think straight. The reality of its new situation is just beginning to dawn on it.

”But we warned the PDP earlier on that being in opposition is not a walk in the park. We warned that while the party was used to eating its bread with butter on both sides, it will now be lucky to even have bread to eat,” the party said.

It warned the PDP to spend more time in patching its tattered and battered umbrella than acting as a cog in the wheel of progress of the new Administration.

Politics / Individual Efforts Can’t End Terrorism -buhari by KingKonga: 12:24pm On Jul 30, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has said efforts being made by individual countries are not capable of tackling terrorism.

He said Nigeria and neighbouring countries must come together and join forces if the dream of defeating Boko Haram terrorists in the sub-region must come to pass.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement on Thursday quoted Buhari as speaking at a state dinner held in his honour at the Unity Palace in Yaounde, as part of activities lined up for his two-day working visit to Cameroon.

He further quoted the President as saying that countries in the sub-region cannot afford to falter in their resolve to get rid of the evils of terrorists.

“We recognise that none of us can succeed alone. In order to win this war, we need the collective efforts of each other, standing together as a formidable force for good, to defeat and end these acts of terror against our people,” the President reportedly said.

Adesina added that Buhari told guests at the dinner hosted by President Paul Biya that the security situation in the region presented an opportunity for Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin to work together for their common security, peace and socio-economic development.

” Let me assure all of my relentless pursuit of all possible means to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, protect the lives and property of our citizens as well as my commitment to continue to collaborate with Cameroon and our neighbours, within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

“The Federal government of Nigeria is committed to respecting international norms to resolve this matter and to restore normalcy to all the affected areas as soon as possible,” the President added.

The President, who had earlier on his arrival on Wednesday held a closed-door session with his host, thanked Biya for providing refuge to Nigerians who had fled their homes because of the insurgents.

He also commended Cameroon for its support to Nigerian military and security personnel in the fight against terrorism and offered his condolences to the families of the victims of terror in both countries.

He also announced Nigeria’s willingness to expand economic partnerships with Cameroon, through increased joint ventures in infrastructure development, transport and commerce, among others.

He welcomed the achievements so far recorded by the Nigeria-Cameroon Joint Commission and all the landmark agreements signed between both countries.

The President, who described the relationship between both countries as excellent, recognised the roles played by past and present leaders and Nigerian citizens in sustaining friendly relations with Cameroon.

In his remarks, Biya while congratulating Buhari on his successful inauguration into office, said his electoral victory has provided an opportunity for him to preside over the “destiny of Nigeria.”

“Mr President, a dark cloud is looming over our countries even as we welcome you; we are facing the same threat, which may rock the foundation of our two nations.

“This danger bears the name of Boko Haram, its atrocities and crimes are jeopardising peace around Lake Chad and especially in our two countries.

“The number of dead and victims are rising, economic activities have been crippled in affected areas, the number of refugees and displaced persons are ever increasing.

“We cannot allow this cancer to spread, we must pool our resources and forces and share our experiences,” he said.

Biya, who reaffirmed Cameroon’s commitment in the fight against terror, welcomed the “fresh push” on economic ties between both countries through easing of trade.

“I strongly believe in your readiness to work towards that goal and your visit to Cameroon as well as the discussions we have had, have strengthened my conviction,” he said.

Romance / Dad Is Having An Affair With My Aunt by KingKonga: 1:32pm On Jul 29, 2015
Dear Bunmi,
Dad’s always had the reputation of being a Jack, the lad and has had open affairs the family knew about. Now I have this conviction he is having an affair with my aunt. I’m a guy of 32 and my parents have been married for over 35 years. I thought his philandering days were over but recently, I helped him get on-line and now he seems to be constantly checking his e-mails.
He’s also started going out more, saying he is pursuing his hobby of playing golf. One day, I followed him and saw his car parked outside my aunt’s – my mum’s sister – for three hours. My gut instinct told me something is going-on. I had suffered in silence all these years, the thought of her sister sleeping with her husband would definitely devastate her.

Crime / Why We Blew-up NPDC Oil Pipeline – Suspects by KingKonga: 1:16pm On Jul 29, 2015
THE two suspects arrested by security agents in connection with the explosion that rocked an oil pipeline belonging to the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC at Ighwrenene community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, have stated that they blew up the pipeline in a bid to coax NPDC into awarding them a pipeline surveillance contract.
The suspects identified as Dennis Oneya aka ‘General Touch’ and Emmanuel Joseph aka Ajegunle, both of Uduere and Afiesere communities respectively, told newsmen at the 222 Battalion headquarters, Agbarha-Otor that they embarked on the mission having being promised job slots by their sponsors when awarded the contract.
Speaking on their modus operandi, while Dennis Oneya admitted digging the spot on the pipeline to be bombed in company of others, Emmanuel Joseph described himself as an expert in handling of dynamites used in the explosion as well as other similar blasts.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, JTF spokesman, Lt. Col. Isa Ado explained that the suspects have confessed to the crime and would be handed over for prosecution to the appropriate authorities after investigation has been concluded.
Ado further stated that the suspects also hinted that the explosion was the outcome of a meeting at an undisclosed hotel in Ughelli were it was agreed that they should embark on the act to hasten the approval of the said contract by NPDC.
He noted that while efforts are on to arrest fleeing members of the gang, a Toyota Hilux vehicle and one pump action gun with 77 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

Politics / Okorocha Reads Riot Act, To Sack Imo Striking Workers by KingKonga: 11:51am On Jul 29, 2015
Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has ordered the striking civil servants to resume work immediately or risk being summarily sacked.

The Governor read the rio act while addressing some youths, who paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Owerri.

While accusing the workers of reneging on the recent agreement it freely entered with the state government, Governor Okorocha also described the current strike as “illegal and would not be tolerated next time”.

It was the considered opinion of the Governor that “the strike was politically motivated and principally aimed at rubbishing the good reputation of his administration”.

He wondered why civil servants should embark on strike “because of just months of unpaid salaries” owed by his administration.

Okorocha was particularly irked that no other state went on strike over non-payment of salaries, considering the economic meltdown facing the country.

“I do not know of any other state whose workers went on strike as a result of unpaid salaries. Imo workers treated me unjustly by embarking on the current industrial action”, Okorocha said.

Explaining why he took the decision to sack the striking workers if they fail to resume, the Governor said a lot of youths in the state are in need of employment.

Meanwhile, labour leaders in the state have advised civil servants to ignore the threat issued by the Governor, stressing that labour may completely shut down the state if government fail to pay their unpaid salaries.

Labour also ordered pensioners not to appear before any verification team set up by the state government, stressing this verification had been conducted several times by the present administration, without paying the pensions

Sports / Mikel Can Be Chelsea’s Captain — Mourinho by KingKonga: 4:21pm On Jul 28, 2015
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has listed Super Eagles’s midfielder John Obi Mikel among the leaders in his squad, owing to the number of years he has spent at the Stamford Bridge.
John Terry is the captain and Branislav Ivanovic is the Vice-Captain but after the departure of Petr Cech and Didier Drogba, there is the need for other leaders in the team. When the Portuguese gaffer was asked of other leaders in his star-studded team, he replied:
“In this moment the two captains, if I can say captain, captain, captain, the same way last year we had Drogba, Petr and John, this season I would say this year we have John and Ivanovic.
Mikel trains with the team in Canada
Mikel trains with the team in Canada
Ivanovic is more than ready to be a big captain too; more than ready: lots of experience, lots of years at Chelsea, his personality, his character, the respect that he has from the other guys. In John and Ivanovic we have two fantastic captains. And after that we have people that come behind. (Gary) Cahill, lots of years at Chelsea, also vice-captain in the England national team. Good personality, good example.
(John Obi) Mikel is, after John, the guy with most years of Chelsea. I think (Cesc) Fabregas has personality for a captain too. Eden is coming with big status now and was voted one of the top 10 players in Europe last year. In my opinion he should be in the top three not in the top 10. Let’s see what is going to happen but we have these people. But let’s say John and Branislav are our captains and the others are ready to come,” he told Dailymail.co.uk.
Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006. Part of his profile on the official Chelsea website reads:
“As a junior Mikel had played as an attacking midfielder, but upon moving to west London Jose Mourinho quickly outlined his desire to play the Nigerian in the holding midfield role, a position he has operated in ever since. A tall, strong player, Mikel is as tactically astute as they come, moving the ball quickly on to his more attacking-minded team-mates, but he is also not afraid to join in further up the field when the timing is right.
Mikel has won a host of honours during his time at the club, but perhaps his finest moment in a Chelsea shirt was the 2012 Champions League final, when he produced an outstanding midfield display as we overcame Bayern Munich in Germany.
Often saving his best performances for the big occasion – the 2012 Champions League final being a case in point – Mikel has won every major honour at club level with the Blues”.
Mikel recently declared that he is willing to stay with the English Champions ending speculations of his departure.
