Good afternoon here. Visa approved today at the US consulate in Abuja this morning. Here's my transcript

ME: Good morning ma'am (with a wry smile)
VO: passport and 1-20 please.

VO: why USM
ME: It is classified as a R1 institution by the Carnegie foundation. And the Biological Science department has a diverse approach to their graduate program where researches provide solutions to problems affecting one health

VO: number of schools applied to
ME: 3. I named them.

VO: Why the choice of USM
ME: Aside from the fact that I got a GA, there's also am ongoing research in the lab of Prof **** which is in line with my background as a veterinarian.(not sure I mentioned the scope of the research)

VO; Do you have a letter from the school indicating the funding offered.
ME: YES. Gave it to her

VO: What similarities are there between your background as a vet and molecular biology
ME: As a practicing Vet, an added Knowledge of molecular biology will not only help me better diagnose animal diseases but also develop preventive and curative approaches to the disease, with emphasis on zoonotic diseases.

VO: Plan after graduation
ME: Upon completion of the MSC, I'll have acquired adequate research knowledge, and practical exposure as to enable me pick up a faculty position made available to best graduating students like me from my alma matter upon my return to Nigeria.

VO: Travelled out of the country before.
ME: No I've had no reason to go out of Nigeria

VO: Do you have any relatives or siblings in the US
ME: no I don't

VO: Congratulations, I'll be approving your visa

Things I ensured
1. I ensured I cleared my mind of the interview worried the previous day and assured myself it's not a do or die affair

2. I practiced multiple times in front of the mirror and also with individuals. As a fast speaker, I ensured I learnt the art of clearly stating my statements

3. Upon arrival at the venue, I interacted with people and get to know few.

4. As previously advised(dont know how true), applicants are been monitored upon entrance into the premises for appearance, posture and gestures that could make them look not confident or jittery. So I ensured I maintained a bossy outlook (even when I'm not), ensured my hands were at akimbo and also did not lower my gaze.

5. It's advised to find a way of putting one's strongest point very early in the interview process. As in my case, the VO did not even bother to check for any information on my 1-20 nor did she ask if I got funding until I made mention of it.

6. Lastly as it has been mentioned here, do not forget the GOD factor.

I hope this helps someone.

Congratulation bro...happy for you.
and i tap to this testimony IJN.

Please house, I need your opinion on this, if a school issued me a language training/program i20 because I didn't meet the criteria for their English language requirements, can this affect my chances of getting my visa during my interview. Please I need your opinion..

I think out of my own experience i can be able to answer this question, please dont try taking language training(ESL) to the embassy why because i have been in this same type of situation some time around july this year and i was denied visa, i took ESL to the embassy after i was been advice here by some great minds such as Boss Lagosismyhome and imperiouxx...not that i did not listen to their advice but at that time i just felt maybe it will turn out positive for me but the reverse was the case...so please obey every advice from this thread and you will be fine, you can as well seat for any standardized test to meet their requirements but please Do not take ESL to the embassy...why do you want to spend so much money for language training when you can as well do that here in Nigeria at a very low cost? this just my opinion im still a novice here anyways.

Visa Approved by 6:30am today.
I arrived the consulate at 5:10am and was able to be among the first 12 people to be attended to. The guy at window 4 interviewed me.

V.O: Good morning
ME: Good morning

(Pass me your passport and i-20)

V.O: Why are you going to the U.S
ME: I am going for my masters in computer science and quantitative methods with concentration in mathematical finance at the Austin Peay State University Clarksville, TN

V.O: Why this course?
Me: Having acquired a bachelor's degree in Industrial Mathematics. A master's degree in computer science and quantitative methods with concentration in mathematical finance will help me achieve my career goal of being a quantitative analyst in the investment banking and financial services industry in Nigeria.

V.O: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 3 schools

V.O: Name them?
ME: Austin Peay State University, Florida state University, North Carolina State University.

V.O: Why this school?
ME: I was offered a graduate assistantship and most importantly, the research conducted by Prof Sam Jator who happens to be the chair of the department of mathematics and statistics aligns with my area of interest which is to consider methods for testing option pricing models including the black scholes model, constant elasticity of variance model, stochastic volatility model and the jump diffusion model. I also discovered from my research that majority of the faculty major in applied mathematics. I will like to work in such a department.

V.O: Are you married?
ME: No, I am not

V.O: Do you have kids?
ME: No, I don't

V.O: Have you travelled out before?
ME: No, i have had no reason to

V.O: How will you go about sponsoring your studies?
ME: I was offered a graduate assistantship which includes tuition waiver and monthly stipends. The remaining cost will be taken care of by my uncle.

V.O: What does he do?
ME: He is a member of the board of directors of an asset management firm (**** asset management Ltd) which is a member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

V.O: Do you have his bank statement?
ME: Yes (I then pass the SOA to him)

V.O: Your Visa is approved. You can go to the circled location on the white paper after 3 days to collect your passport. Kindly focus on your studies.
ME: Thank you

P.S: In all of these, i can say "IT CAN ONLY BE GOD".
Prepare as if God does not exist and Pray as if your preparations is Nothing.

Thanks to @Falana who helped to correct my transcript and helped with numerous mock interviews. My God bless you plenty.

Thanks to @Ubah1 who also helped in going through my proposed transcripts before the actual interview.

Thanks to the Queen of USA visa thread @lagosismyhome for always pointing out errors in people's transcripts. That really helped me a whole lot.

Thanks to the Nairaland Family. Preparing to meet TRUMP.
Congrats man really happy for you cool

If I can understand you well, you were saying you were admitted for ESL because you don't have any english proficient test? Also you don't have a waec result yet. This your case is weak at the embassy. By the time you go for your interview, your highest degree/certificate would be primary school leaving certificate. Question, what course do you plan to study after esl? Since you've not finished your high school, why not slow down, get your waec certificate in hand, get your toefl and sat done and apply for a bs degree, even if it's going to be in the same school? ESL doesn't cut it.
I like this....I plan to study Mechanical Engineering after ESL though the school who admitted me said I can use my scores for ESL after taking a test to apply my course of choice...I'm done with high school and probably my waec result will be out this week.

Why not wait and graduate secondary school and then write SAT and TOEFL

You can go on with your visa interview. It won't hurt, your TOEFL result would be out before the interview so you can use that. Your graduation date from high school has nothing to do with your interview. You'd tell the VO you finished from high school this year. Standardized test? Yes, TOEFL.

thanks so much olalekank I really do appreciate it.
