If you had married before you spouse applied for visa to travel and its included in his/her application then it will be easier, because there is a space for the name of the spouse if you are married, and the person will be asked if the spouse intend to join him/her anytime after. It also depend on the kind of permit the person has, if the person here in south africa is here for a PhD programme then they have no choice than to give the spouse the visa. You can apply at the vfs center, ask them for accompany visa form and they will give u a form to fill, then you have to attach the passport data page of your spouse, the permit, letter of invitation and sponsorship, his/her bank account statement and proof of address, your police certificate, medical certificate, radiological certificate, yellow card and application letter.

The Visa will still be valid so far the name of the institution is written on it, you may apply for extension if the duration of your visa wont meet up with you programme when you have started it.

i have lots of people that have been turned back by the lagos embassy, the time I even applied for my own permit was in June, and lagos had stopped accepting applications even by then, we were told to go to Abuja for submission. Abuja also stopped accepting by july 16th, both centers will start accepting by november for january admission process. That is as far as i know...

As much as I would have loved to ignore your post, I just have to comment so that you will not mislead others. I know that lagos has stopped accepting all applications on study permit and they will start accepting applications again by November, even abuja center has also stopped. You might want to clarify your post, if your course of study is less than 3 months you will not be issued a study permit. So, which type of visa did you apply for, and its for which institution in South Africa?

There is no easy job anywhere, so dont plan your finances on the job you may or not get over here. Cost of living is high, house rent can be up to 70k in Naira per month if you are living in a self contained apartment but u can share with someone to make it cheaper.

I am currently studying at the University of Pretoria. You will have to pay application fee, international levy fee and the tuition fee. Then you have to pay for each registered module, hw many courses u registered for will determine how much you will have to pay eventually. You cannot get an exact amount to pay here. But as international postgraduate student you are eligible to apply for UP postgraduate bursary which can be used to cover your tuition fees.

Yes, till november. But u can make sure u get alll the documents required necessary in order to be among the first set of people to submit.

On this forum we strongly advice doing it yourself. An agent can pack unverifiable documents with your application which may delay it unnecessarily. If you realy submit authentic documents by yourself am sure your visa will be issued without delay

Sammie, thats what the embassy came up with o, I dont know why either. But if you can get someone to give you an invitation letter so that you can apply for visit visa, and when you get there you can apply for your study permit immediately.
Depending on the course, SAQA requirement does not apply to all cases and you might be in the exemption zone. i think you also need an unconditional admission letter for the study permit application

Yes, he can sponsor you. The person will have to write a sponsorship letter for you and attach his ID card with bank statement.

The consular will tell you at the point of submission whether to pay immediately or not.

She cannot register for any programme exceeding 3 months duration with visiting or tourist visa, or else she goes to SA on a visiting or tourist visa then applies for admission at the school and when the admission is granted she will then apply for study permit. but I will advice that she just do everything from here, so when she gets admitted to some course she can then apply for the study permit at lagos or abuja SA high commission. There is no problem being a first timer so far her documents are complete and authentic.
As per the amount and everything, school fees for schools differ. U can search the internet to get all the details you want. Embassy will charge 18k for study permit application and 110k for repatriation fee.

Study permit is a type of visa that is issued for applicants that want to study in SA for a duration of more than 3 months. Its a type of temporary residence permit.

Yes, you can get the forms at the nearest south african high commission close to you, lagos or abuja. then fill and submit at abuja. The forms are also available on the internet but there might be slight variation compared with the one that will be given to you at the high commission.

To let you know, I also got all the information i needed to make a successful application for my study permit here in nigeria through this forum. Various discussions and updates on this thread ministers invaluable help to prospective applicants. I just submitted my application last week wednesday at abuja and I gave you all the info necessary to apply. Abuja centre accepts applications 11am - 12pm monday to wednesdays and they will stop accepting study permit applications by next month ending, so its advisable for you to hurry with what you want to do in order not to lose out.

Yes, u can do the medicals at any recognized government hospital. Long term visas, like study permits are applied for directly at the embassy.

The medical clearance should be done at any government hospital. As per the forms, its available on the internet. U can drop ur email and I will forward it to you.
