Travel / Re: Seeking Honest Advice: Considering Relocating Abroad - Need Your Thoughts by kingori: 11:28am On Jul 31, 2023
I recollect I was in a similar situation many years back, left a high earning job after my company divested from Nigeria, having worked 15 years across several multinationals with good earnings, I traveled a lot, invested in properties and manufacturing company as a side business. My entrepreneur journey was a nightmare, taxes, unruly employees, ease of doing business doesn't exist in Nigeria. I invested in footwear business, opened an experience store in Lekki, the govt fixed the road for over 14 months making the location inaccessible, online delivery is another sad tales. Tried fish farming but didn't progress for obvious reasons. My N50m investment eroded right in my eyes. I gathered what was left and eventually for Netherlands to study, I started a business while in school subsequently my family joined me after graduation. My spouse got a job solid job after upskilling while I continued growing my business.

It was not rosy starting all over again, going to school, working and juggling family but there was a light in the tunnel especially if determined, focused and hardworking. Give it 3 - 5 years you will build up and settle down with a clear visibility into your future. Your chances are higher when you upskill, reskill or even transit your career. Technology, supply chain, project management, agile, fintech
The Nigeria environment is not enabled for wealth generation and distribution, how many successful small business owners do you know among your friends, family, secondary school mates, church or mosque, neighborhood and other associations you belong too. It is a struggle for everyone, the government keeps widening poverty demography leading to more people unable to apply logic and reasoning to problems since they have been skewed towards survival.

Do not get me wrong, there are people making good money legitimately in Nigeria and I have got network of friends still standing tall however in an environment where nothing is certain, cost of living steadily increases, insecurity and many socioeconomic variables contesting with your strive to succeed. Relocating might be attractive if you have the means and staying back can be a good option if you can withstand our peculiarity.

Good day my fellow nairalanders!

Pls I will be coming to Netherlands to write an exam and I will only be staying for a night.

Please and please, anyone in Amsterdam? That's where the exam is going to be held.

Just for one night pls. Help pls!

Thanks...

What date are you coming in?
Without pre-empting anyone I doubt you will see someone with such offer without knowing you. You know the way it is with us Naija, however if you check AirBnB or shared hostels like http://urbanroomie.com/ you can get a cheap room.

All the best in your exams.

Thank you for this message, King. May I please ask how much the school requires you to have in your account in other to issue you an MVV.

First of all, You must have paid part or full school fees, in addition, you should have €10,000-€11,000 in your blocked account.

Please would love to know more about the Netherlands as regards admission process.
So quickly when given admission you pay your school fees and then the bank statements thing.
Is it to show, or you actually pay into the school account.
I also heard bank statements should 10k euro...
Please how true.
Lastly the visa process will the school assist or it's a do by yourself model.
Thanks..

You pay your school fees before presenting your account statement, your statement must show that you have the capacity to support yourself at 10k-11k euro for a year.
The school will apply for your MVV, if approved (typically you did get it) they will send a copy to you which you will take to the embassy in Ghana or Benin for the visa.

It seems you are an agent.....please stop misinforming the public just for your selfish and greedy interest...

I am currently in the Netherlands...
Firstly let me correct your statement.

For Non-Eu students, they are permitted to work for just 16hours a week

Unlike Germany their student visa/residence permit does not entitles them outrightly to work just like that..

They need a work permit which takes over 6weeks when applied for and can only applied on behalf of them by their employers which makes getting a job in the Netherlands very difficult..

Because most of the time many employers need employees to start work immediately and would not have the patience and time to apply for a work permit on your behalf...

Amidst all the cost of living here is very very high when compared to Germany.. things are so expensive In the Netherlands

Please don't be deceived by that guy's sweet mouth..
I intend leaving the Netherlands this year...it is a nice country tho,the people are friendly and helpful..
If you are still hell bent on leaving Nigeria to come and see things for yourself ...you are always welcome..

But remember say when you see fine fine building finish...you go know say no be fine fine building dy put money for pocket

You said selfish & greedy interest and I misinformed people, common!!! stop throwing baseless accusations. I have not solicited for business from you or anyone yet you label me sweet mouth. The information I shared is verifiable on their web site which I referenced, I also said it is not a walk in a pack, didn’t you see the hard work mention.

How we adapt and explore life in Netherlands is different, you can be searching for jobs while I start a business. Regardless students get jobs.
Hey, let talk about the opportunities, enabling environments, great people, fair law, support etc available in Netherlands, create awareness and inform people of the beautiful country.
If you planning on coming to Netherlands for study, pls push it, research more. It a worthy investment.

can you give more info about this

It is not all university that can guarantee your MVV visa (temp residence permit). If you get admission into such schools, you face the challenge of MVV visa. Some universities will process your MVV for you and all you do is to book an appointment and head to their embassy with your passport for the MVV visa sticker.
On there web site, there is a list of organizations that guarantees your MVV, higher institutions inclusive.

Your MVV will be converted to study residence permit when you land & register at municipal, you are allowed to work 20 hours a week, or full time in summer, nevertheless you can work 24-7 on your start up business.

After your study, you will be given an orientation year visa to search for job in one year, if you get a job you continue your good life, it is rare not too find job in a country with unemployment rate less than 5% but it is not a walk in the park. If you continue your small business then you re fine. Regardless only Hard work& Hardwork separate you from your dreams.

Netherlands school requirement and visa processing is not as tedious as Canada, USA or UK, yet they offer quality education.

I hope I shared sufficient information.

I can help you. I am a MBA student in Netherlands. 3rd class OAU. There re opportunities in Amsterdam, you can work while studying, you can start a business as well. Enabling environment with opportunities to succeed with hard work.

Some school gives admission directly while others go through the education system.
Some schools can guarantee you residence permit while some can’t.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: High Paying Contract Job Or State Civil Service: Which Should I Choose? by kingori: 10:49am On Nov 05, 2018
2007 I was in similar situation. I got a job of N30K permanent role and I got another of N70k three months fixed contract with all the benefits you mentioned in your contract opportunity. My Mum of blessed memory encouraged me to go for the higher pay of 3 months with more opportunities and she said life is a risk and you never know what await you if you dont take the risk. Fast forward to 10 years later, it was a good decision, that was the beginning of an exciting & rewarding career. Again I never would have known what await me if I went for the other permanent role.
Go with the exciting & rewarding option and remain positive.

Career / Re: Confused About Contract Job And A Permanent Job by kingori: 12:27pm On Sep 16, 2016
In 2007, I worked as a permanent staff earning 35k montly, a year down the line I got a 3 month renewable contract job 70k monthly. Mum adviced i go for the 70K, she said something which still drives me today, you must take risk, life is a risk but pray about it. That 9 years back, i thank God for that decision, current earning is a lil less than a million. If you willing to dare, take a risk and pray about it, expect & focus on the best regardless.
