First of all God never called perfect people His worshipers we all know that the Israelites weren't perfect people when God declared them as His people in fact that's what led to the death of so many people in Canaan as they failed to read the signs on the walls.

Back in those days people feel any nation or tribe having the most powerful army are worshipers of the true God but then God went to Egypt with two feeble octogenarians to deliver millions of Israelites claiming they are His people yet inhabitants of Canaan thought it's just a coincidence after all the so called God who led the Israelites out of Egypt failed to lead them directly to Canaan as they wandered in the wilderness for 40 solid years. So most inhabitants of Canaan concluded that it's just a coincidence and they can prevent the Israelites from taking over Canaan.

Today there is one sign God promised to give sincere and honest hearted people who wish to know His true worshipers.
