A young mother-of-five has died allegedly after she was beaten by her husband over a loaf of bread.



The deceased, identified as Ogochukwu Anene, from Umuokpu village in Awka, Anambra State, was married to one Mr Ndubisi Wilson Uwadiegwu from Enugu state and their union was blessed with four sons and a daughter.



However, the union was allegedly plagued by domestic violence.



On the fateful day Ogochukwu died, she reportedly asked her husband to buy bread for the family and he said he had no money.



She then used her money to buy bread for the family. Subsequently, Ndubuisi allegedly went into the kitchen and finished the whole bread.



When she confronted him for finishing the bread without keeping any for their children, he allegedly beat her up with his fists and a mirror.



She collapsed during the beating and died a few hours later.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has fixed dates for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards PVCs.



INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, December 2.



“'The Commission has fixed Monday 12 December 2022 to Sunday 22 January 2023 as the dates for the collection of PVCs in all the 774 Local Government Offices of the Commission throughout the Federation” he said



The Commission also resolved to devolve PVC collection to the 8,809 Registration Areas/Wards from Friday 6th to Sunday 15th January 2023.



According to him, those who are unable to collect their PVCs at the Local Government Offices of the Commission can do so at the Registration Areas/Electoral Wards. He said after 15th January 2023, the exercise will revert to the Local Government Offices of the Commission until 22nd January 2023.



“All eligible and valid registrants can collect their PVCs from 9.00am to 3.00pm daily, including Saturdays and Sundays.

All the RECs and Electoral Officers (EOs) have been directed to convene a meeting with the critical stakeholders in their States and Local Government Areas, including traditional and religious leaders, civil society groups, community-based organisations and the media to brief them on the modalities for the collection of the PVCs in order to sensitise the public and ensure seamless exercise.

Similarly, RECs and EOs have also been directed to set up help desks to assist registrants with complaints about their PVCs or with the PVC collection procedure for immediate redress.

The Commission appreciates the patience and understanding of Nigerians, especially those who registered as voters or applied for transfer/replacement of their cards from January to July 2022. In making the cards available for collection, the Commission is also working to ensure that the process is simple and hitch-free for Nigerians” Okoye said

The former priest of Adoration ministry Enugu Father Ejike Mbaka has warned his followers whom have decided to protest over his transfer.

Mbaka discloses this while notifying the church members of his transfer to Monastery ,not to indulge in any form of protests rather they should pray for him.

Mbaka ministry was closed by the district Bishop of Enugu ,Bishop Callistus Onaga over the priests negligence by turning the the church into a podium for discussions of all sorts of political activities happening in the country.



Mbaka announced his transfer to the monastery, following a directive from Callistus Onaga, the bishop of Enugu diocese, while another priest, Anthony Amadi, was appointed to take charge of AMEN.

The transfer led to protests by members of the ministry, causing the Catholic church to clarify that the cleric was only taking time away.

Mbaka says: I do not want to hear that there is any protest done to express anger towards my journey to the monastery,”.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to complete the Mambilla hydro power project, if given the mandate in the 2023 general election.

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has barred Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) from sending gifts to Retirement Savings Account (RSA) holders.

This may not be unconnected to a series of complaints from several quarters against such practice and the need to discourage unhealthy competition among the PFAs.

According to Punch, this order was given by PenCom in a new directive to the PFAs by PenCom, who acknowledged that the practice was getting out of hand.
