The Olori (also known as the supreme leader) of the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity, Otunba Francis Meshioye, has said the organisation has been wrongly labelled a secret cult by members of the society who lack the patience to examine their teachings. He stated this at a recent unveiling of the fraternity’s centenary celebration in Ikeja, Lagos. According to him, the ROF fulfils its obligations to relevant government agencies like other incorporated entities, files returns at the Corporate Affairs Commission, conducts meetings in public places and teaches members to imbibe high moral standards and be law-abiding. He added, “The biggest challenge that many fraternities have is the impatience of those who are not their members to examine their purposes with open minds and without prejudice. A pure and investigative mind that is searching for unbiased understanding should possess these qualities. “Many people create mental stereotypes on what the fraternity should be or how its members should or must look like.” Meshioye said some intending members had withdrawn their applications on the knowledge of the high moral standards they were expected to comply with. “Many believe that they can perpetrate criminality when they become our members, they are also disappointed when they are informed of the need to uphold high morals and to be obedient to every law in the country they live,” he said. The leader said members would not engage in unnecessary debates to change what he described as public misconception about them but would conquer “the unfairness with pure thoughts, good words and honourable deeds”. He described the spread of the organisation and the growth of membership as the greatest achievement of ROF in the past 100 years. Meshioye said the fraternity had grown from the six initiates that started it on December 18, 1914 to its current 1.5 million members, fostering unity and love among people of diverse religions, political affiliations, professions and race. The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has said that God will not allow Nigeria to break up in 2015. He said that regardless of the political tension, insecurity and predictions that Nigeria would break up in 2015, the country would not be dismembered. He spoke on Tuesday during a media briefing for the commencement of the Deeper Life Bible Church three-day crusade at Eiyenkorin in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. He advised against utterances and acts that could divide the country, saying that God’s purpose is for Nigeria to remain united. He stated that there would be life transforming encounters with God, adding that God would lift the burden of people during the crusade. Kumuyi said, “Sometimes people misunderstood the power of prophecy and there are people who will make negative pronouncements. Pronouncements are not necessarily prophecies. Every utterance on Nigeria breaking up is a pronouncement made from observations and not prophecies. “I believe those who made those pronouncements based on some things they see or feel should say ‘they feel Nigeria may break up’ and not that God said that. Because if God could hear the voice of only Moses and spared Israel and they still exist over 3,000 years after, then God loves Nigeria and would not allow it to break up. “God has a purpose for Nigeria. When people talk of division, the truth is that once you start the process, it never ends. Once you say, ‘people in the North, go your way and those in the South, go your way,’ there are other people who will also rise up to say they too want to go their own way even within you. You know what happened in the 1960s; several sides will begin to be asked to go away but I know that God has a purpose for bringing Nigeria together and we shall remain one.” Kumuyi also advised the electorate to elect leaders based on competence rather than on sentimental considerations. He added that leaders should not be elected necessarily because of their religious or ethnic cleavages but should be elected based on their ability to deliver dividends of democracy and good governance to the people. He urged the electorate to evaluate the manifestoes of political parties and politicians and vote wisely and rightly. He also called on Nigerians to be committed to nation building, adding that the Federal Government and the security agencies should continue in their efforts to address insecurity and other violent crimes in the country. He also urged Nigerians and clerics to continue to pray to God to intervene and bring an end to insecurity in the country. The cleric also advised Nigerians to avoid destructive criticisms, adding that people should appreciate the positive impacts of their leaders and offer constructive criticisms. Hmm.. One of the most glaring truth. Buhari might be a 'SAVIOUR', but he's association with bandits and vile men seems like he's downfall. He clearly isn't a politician. Read in another article where Atiku said something about visiting most delegates. In as much as buhari has a good plan, the odds are clearly stacked against him. You do need the people's vote to win the election, but it's the delegates vote that decide if you get the chance to go 4 the election. And its quite obvious that the back-stabbing tinubu and Atiku wouldn't mind doing it again to him. |
