Adequate and accurate publicity for women has been advocated for, even at the instance of gender discrimination, religious bigotry, cultural and traditional factors among other factors militating against them in the society. This was the submision at a two day media training for political reporters organized by the Women Radio with support from United Nations Women and the Government of Canada held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Thursday. According to the CEO Women Radio, Toun Okewale Sonaiya, female politicians and leaders are not given the adequate media coverage as their male counterparts. Okewale Sonaiya who spoke on “The 50:50 Strategy: An Inclusive, Responsive and Balanced Reporting ” highlighted the importance of fair and balanced reportage of women in politics especially as we draw nearer to the 2023 elections. She said: “the media remains a powerful tool in shaping public perception and has a bigger role in emphasising gender-based political issues and as such participation of women in politics through the media should be an integral part of editorials and features” . Sonaiya further emphasised on the need for the powerful Nigerian media to “embrace and practice gender equity and social inclusion for a sustainable media environment”. Participants include journalists with disabilities from Print, Radio, Television and Digital media. In his lecture, a media expert and CEO of MODISULT Media Concept, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, noted that women are key players in the society either as mothers, wives and daughters in the homes. Citing reasons why women should be supported for political offices, Arowona said women are honest, trustworthy, authentic, supportive and empathetic. Such are the attribute of good leaders who should hold political offices and can deliver good governance to the masses. In her presentation, Hajia Binta Abubakar Mora, explained gender disparity, as women are disadvantage in access to resources in comparison to men. Mora charged media to encourage women with positive reportage, even as 2023 elections draw close. According to her, “As of October 2017, out of 193 UN countries, 11 had a woman serving as head of state and 12 had a woman as head of government. Only ion nomadic countries are close to equal representation within parliaments with women making up to 41 per cent of their single -house parliament. “Current trend in Nigerian politics shows that men are dominating the place of authority, with women relegated to the background. We need to make a difference by supporting women both from men and women.” The founder of Women Communications Centre, an Ilorin-based Non-Governmental Organization, Hajia Nimota Goroso Giwa, said women are part of the struggles in the society in terms of pursuing sustainable Development Goals and are making positive impact in the society. She thanked the organisers for the deep thoughts and commitments towards ensuring that the voice of women can be heard as well as projecting images of women in leadership positions in Nigeria. https://royalnews.com.ng/women-deserve-enough-publicity-in-society-women-radio-ceo-sonaiya/

Insecurity: Group canvasses for national debate on Pre-Shipment Inspection cancellation https://www.fellowpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/ob_2f11a4_pre-shipment-inspection-market12.jpg The federal government has been urged to embark on research on the need to combat insecurity in the nation by revisiting the lacuna in ports across the country. A Non-Governmental Organization, the Social Integrity Network, (SIN) in a statement issued at the weekend, attributed the cancellation of the Pre-Shipment Inspection to the reason why the fight against insurgency is still failing. Spokesperson of the group, Mallam Ibrahim Issah, noted that there is need for a public debate to address the merit or demerit of the action as approved by the Nigeria Customs Service some years back. "If the federal government is really after the protection of lives and property of Nigerians, there is need for President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse the policy with immediate effect and also probe further the damages done so far onnthe Nigeria's economy. "This is reason why the huge sums of money voted to combat insecurity is yet to manifest while many Nigerians are dying on daily basis. " We think it is worthwhile that a national debate be organised for experts to give their opinions on the Pre-Shipment Inspection cancellation while we urge the leadership of the 9th National Assembly to quickly investigate this action before it collapses Nigeria’s economy. "It is saddening to note that the Pre-Shipment Inspection that was cancelled during the tenure of the former Comptroller of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Inde Abdullahi, has further paved ways for bandwagon effects. We want to categorically ask that, was the cancellation approval granted by the President and Commander-In-Chief, by the leadership of the National Assembly, by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice or by their personal decision?" However, the group also implored the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan to set up committee to instigate the activities of the Standard Organization of Nigeria to defend the many allegations against it by the manufacturers. "There is need for SON to give detail accounts of how substandard roofing sheets are finding their ways into the Nigerian markets despite the MANCAP and SONCAP fees imposed on importers and exporters. "If the Nigeria Custom Service and the Standard Organisation of Nigeria cannot fish out the Smugglers, the Federal Government of Nigeria should command the Department of State, Nigeria Police and the Presidential Committee on Trade Malpractices to join hands together to deploy the machineries in their arsenals to move into the matter and detect those behind the menace of smuggling in Nigeria", he added. https://www.fellowpress.com/news/59746/insecurity-group-canvasses-for-national-debate-on-pre-shipment-inspection-cancellation/ |

This is an illegal action, and will not achieve its aim of derailing the education reforms being implemented by the government. The Kaduna State Government is not available to be blackmailed into knowingly retaining unqualified teachers. Neither would it mortgage the future of two million primary school pupils because failed teachers are shamelessly mobilizing sentiment. At the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Labour, the Kaduna State Government twice met in Abuja with the officials of the NLC and the NUT. The Governor Nasir El-Rufai personally led the Kaduna State delegation to the first meeting. During these interactions, KDSG made it clear that as an employer, it has every right to determine who its employees are or can be, and the minimum qualifications they must possess. The Kaduna State Government wishes to inform the public that it has instructed its Education administrators to open registers in all its schools, starting from Monday, 8th January 2018. Any teacher that is absent from work will be treated with the consequences that pertain to absconding from duty under the Public Service Rules. There can be no doubt that KDSG will take firm and decisive disciplinary action against personnel who absent themselves from duty, including dismissal from service. KDSG recalls that the NUT placed primary school pupils, who are the victims of failing teachers, in danger by pushing them into the streets to demonstrate for the retention of bad teachers. That ruse failed. Some union leaders are also likely to be prosecuted for assault, unlawful procession and destruction of public property when they attacked the State House of Assembly. The children of the poor are the ones that attend public primary schools. We owe them a decent standard of education, and we shall provide it. Editor's note: In this write-up, Aruna Baba, breaks down the discussion President Muhammadu Buhari had with his media adviser, Femi Adesina. He said Buhari was mean to have described as MISCHIEF those concerned about his health. https://www.fellowpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Phone-calls.jpg Around 14:30 on Saturday Nigerian time, President Muhammadu Buhari placed a call to his Media Assistant, Femi Adesina. Unfortunately, this was the first time he would be hearing his boss for more month Buhari departed Nigeria. Read on to see highlight of their discussion: 1. President Buhari's call to Femi Adesina was the known third call he would make to Nigeria last week. First he made calls to Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and and Katsina state governor, Aminu Masari. 2. How could Buhari actually called those concerned about his health status MISCHIEF? That was really demeaning to say the least! It shows that Buhari lack ability to reciprocate good gesture Nigerians have for him. Even if some quarters had spoken ill about him, such statement is unbecoming of a leader. Buhari said: “I am still resting. Thank you for holding out against mischief makers.” Probably Mr President was referring to those questoining his media aide about his whereabout, those who are not 'patient' enough to wait his return, and those not satisfied with pictures of him with top politicians who paid him visit while resting in London, but clamour for video version. 3. Honestly, many just got to know about someone, personal assistant, called Tunde Sabiu. Adesina said: "At exactly 2.43 p.m today, Saturday, February 25, 2017, my phone rang. Who was at the other end? Tunde Sabiu, personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari. “Hold on for Mr President,” Tunde said. And Mr Tunde, we'll remember you each time we hear our president's name or talk about him. 4. Honestly, again, some quarters have borrowed President Buhari's term, labelling Femi Adesina as a mischief man himself. Why? They said he was in defence despite relying on third party information about the health of the President. He was only hearing his voice today for month. Adesina said: "Not once did I ask them to take the phone to him, deliberately so, because I didn’t need to speak with him to validate the fact that he was alive. And since he was on vacation, he had a right to his privacy." Adesina is just doing his work and he applied the required wisdom. Not guilty! 5. Well, President Buhari did not speak with Adesina alone, the extended his greetings to the Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and the media team as a whole, except his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Garba Shehu who wasn't around. Shehu was later compesated with an SMS from the president though. He expressed his loyalty and love for Mr President. “I had an SMS from him thereafter because I missed my call! I humbly join them to say thank you, Baba Buhari!! We are together with other Nigerians of all faiths, in praying for his safe return. “Even if he hadn’t done so, he would have remained my president, my leader, my man. Any day", he said. Contrary to the time the online ponzi scheme, MMM, vowed to resume operation by January 14, 2017 the website is fully operational today 13th. The statement which reads on its site, welcomes participant with "We are now open!!!". MMM Nigeria froze all participants money on January 13, 2016, stating the system was experiencing heavy workload, which might lead system crash landing. Hence pause or freeze of all mavros (name for participants investment). The welcoming message on the website reads: Dear members, The holidays are over, and we''re now open. Just as promised. (You might have already noticed that we always stick to our promises. :-)) Actually, we promised to be open on January 14, but we''re open now, January 13, as you can see, which is a day earlier. (Well, I hope, the members of the System will forgive us for that. :-)) It''s related to the hysteria raised by the authorities and the mass media around MMM. By joining forces, they''ve managed to nearly give the members of the System a heart attack and have frightened them out of their wits. Poor souls don''t know what to expect. Will we open again or not? :-)) This is why we''ve decided, considering the situation, to reach out to the members, reassure and cheer them up by opening a little earlier. After all, Together We Can Change The World! :-)) Here we go. 1. As of this notice, MMM resumes its usual operation. You can now create your GH-requests. 2. However, it''s obvious that panic will reign in the first few days after the re-opening of the System. We’re likely to be deluged by GH-requests. Therefore, we''re going to make gradual paybacks by setting internal output limits. In other words, we will only pay a certain amount per day. Please, be prepared to wait for a couple of days. We are certain things will then calm down, and the System operation will return to normal. We''re the ones setting the limits, so it''s completely under our control, and we are not expecting any emergencies in principle. Have no fear and go on about your business as usual. :-)) As the System is socially oriented, we will make paybacks to the poor and the economically disadvantaged in the first place: it means to the members with small PH amounts. The richer can wait. Moreover, we''ve warned you repeatedly to only provide help with amounts that are not critical for you. Therefore, if these large amounts are not critical for them (the richer), they can wait a few days. No need to be tragic about it. :-)) This is the way it''s going to be. Hoping for your kind understanding, Sergey Mavrodi. We Change The World! P. S. I''d like again to call on the authorities and the mass media: Please, leave us alone! Have mercy on people. http://www.fellowpress.com/2017/01/13/breaking-mmm-nigeria-resumes-operation/ |

The interaction broke between Saraki and a Twitter user, who urged the Senate President to drop his official mansion in a bid to relieve the country of expenses in this recessionary situation. But the response of the number 3 citizen of the country was quite shocking as Saraki, the former governor of Kwara state, clarified that he still lives in his old house. The Tweeter user, Akin Akingbesote with handle @shogbo 1, had asked Saraki to support the sale of the “Sir @bukolasaraki, could you kindly support the sale of the mansions for our Senate President #sellnationalassets to save our economy.” Of which Saraki responded by saying “As part of cost saving measures, I stay in the same house I have been way before I became Senate President. We will continue to do more.” The social media user, Akingbesote, who did not stop at that proceeds to queried President Muhammadu Buhari to sell Aso Rock and Presidential jets. “Sir @MBuhari , could you kindly sell Aso Rock and Presidential jets. #SellNationalAssets to save our economy.” The subject of National Assets disposal has been one of the major topical issues making rounds recently. When asked about his interest in buying any of the government properties, Dangote was quoted as saying he dare not buy any of them even if he was asked to buy on credit. Prominent among the assets is Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Company. Source: http://www.fellowpress.com/2016/10/04/recession-to-save-cost-i-still-live-in-my-old-house-saraki/ |
