Agriculture / Yam by kollymore1(m): 12:49pm On Mar 22, 2016
YAM Dioscorea spp.

This one of the most important staple foods in the west African sub region where over 70% of annual world production comes from.
Nigeria is ranked the largest producer of yam in the world followed by Ivory coast, Cameroon and Ghana in that order but surprisingly Ghana is responsible for over 90% of yam exports on the continent.
This is another means through which we could earn export proceeds(in foreign currencies) as farmers/business men and improve on our economy as a nation.

Let's go back to the farm, we can grow together.
Agriculture / Worth Sharing by kollymore1(m): 5:11pm On Feb 26, 2016
Majority of the farmers are getting ready for the new planting season all because they depend only on rain for their activities especially in this part of the country.
It is not a bad idea but it is time we begin to look at alternative source of water for our farms.
Irrigation will not only prevent drought as experienced last year but will guaranty all year round activities on the farm thereby making us self suffient in food production.

Let's go back to the farm, we can grow together.

Agriculture / EU Ban On Nigeria' S Beans, Sesame Seeds, Palm Oil And Melon Seeds by kollymore1(m): 12:44pm On Aug 03, 2015
As farmers a caption as this ordinarily will make our heart skip a bit, get us discouraged and ultimately kill the morale of the not so strong hearted players.

News like this carries a lot of weight given the sitiation of our economy especially our emerging Agricultural sector.
It is enough to set us back but we rather should use it as motivating factor to improve on our activities.

But is the EU wrong to have imposed this ban on us? Guess we can discuss this question further.

And let the people with sharp practices turn a new leave so that together we can better our lots.

We can grow together

There will always be an alternative to oil for energy globally but there can never be alternative to food.

The time is now for us to embrace AGRICULTURE not only for food production but to also redifine and reposition our economy.

Agriculture / Farmers Are Kings (AGBE LOBA) by kollymore1(m): 5:16pm On Jul 01, 2015
In the past, Agriculture was the main thing in Nigeria. As a nation we earned all our income from commodities trading, made so much from exporting cocoa among other crops. The farmers were doing well and our economy was doing so great that our naira fared better than the pounds and dollars.

When we discovered oil, Agriculture became relegated to the background and our economy became majorly oil dependent.
I could still remember my primary school days when we were taught about the groundnut pyramid in the north, Timber from sapele, cocoa from the west among others but all long gone.
Imagine, we are the largest producer of Shea butter but Ghana is the largest exporter of same in Africa.

And despite all the income we have realised since the oil boom era till date, we have little or nothing to show for it. "Few people dey chop bigi money the rest dey hungry". But the poor farmers have been feeding the nation all along from north to south.

Now that the reign of oil is gradually taking a downward trend with oil price hitting its lowest in a long time, I believe commodity trading is on its way to its rightful place (the top) and our farmers can be proud of their chosen carrier once again.

It is time to go back to the FARM, there is more potentials in AGRIBUSINESS.

'Agbe loba'

Just like venturing into any ideal business, Agriculture requires highest level of skills and up to date information.

If you want to rely on the practices of yesteryear you should be expecting the yield of yesteryears.

If you must move forward then you must look forward

This is not praise singing but an encouragement for fellow agrarian.
I read about Mr Sola Adeniyi known as world1 on this forum today in the Nation news paper. His investement and contributions to agricultural estates is a pointer to the fact that agriculture surely is taking its rightful place in the economy of our grate nation.
If you can conceive it then you can achieve it.

If you sow sparingly you will reap sparingly; your level of involvement in agriculture will determine your returns therefore, if you want to do well in this sector invest your resources but be wise in doing do.

@mrvitalis, employing locals to manage your investment in agriculture might not be an advisable thing.
Most of the locals are already frustrated as a result of their own mistakes or lack of inovstion and over reliant on government inputs that some of them never benefited in their life time.

Investors can take advantage of our agro-innovation where we are bringing people together for agriculture. Buy land and we take care of it for you. Inspection of the land opens next week.

This issue is very disheartening so i implore every right minded member of this forum to come together and fight the monsters in the name of Doctor ISA or whatever he calls himself and His agent of darkness parading themselves as farmers on this platform.

DoctorIsa or nobody, When you were signing and collecting his(kenny) money does it not occur to you that you are not only farming for him but also you own him a duty to secure his investment?

When there came crisis you told your client there is nothing you can do about it but were quick to take his cash. This statement is a pointer to the fact that ab initio, your plans have been to eat his funds.

At this point I advice everyone whose name came up in this thread (if on this platform) to come out and defend their positions.

Kenny, you too are not helping matters. You said there are hidden things that you can't divulge here. It means you are part of the conspiracy.
Dont just be disgruntled tell us everything that you know about this ugly transaction, make it opened. You have his real name, phone number, office/farm or house address.

If there are other people who have experienced the same thing please speak out now so we can kill this issue appropriately.

Nigeria is a land of many opportunities and one of such is Agriculture. But do not venture into it because your friends/people around you are doing it or because you heard it has tendency of making you a millionaire in few months.

Rather, do it because you derives joy in it. Like any other business there are times of turbulence and challenges and it could be really bad. Your interest and likeness for the 'profession' will keep you going when there is down time.

Case study:

My first experience with farming was a disaster. Contrary to the forecast of ROI, it was a colossal loss. I did not realize half of my investment not to talk of profit.

What happened?
No proper guidance and adequate information was lacking.
I relied on somebody based on what he said he was; it turned out to be waste of time and resources. That sour/bitter experience discouraged my partner and he vowed never to come near farming again.

But my interest had kept me going with the help of God.

Farming is good and promising but it could also become a curse if not done the right way.
Are you thinking of farming? First you must love it not because of money but see it ad your own way of lifting/helping mankind. Get equipped with adequate knowledge of your choice crop/animal. If you can afford it, pay for trainings, prepare yourself for the challenges ahead and get a mentor that you can always call.

Most importantly don't venture into agriculture on impulse.

May God bless the works of your hands.

Agriculture / Agriculture: My View, My Advice. by kollymore1(m): 5:57pm On Jun 13, 2015
As a professional in the field of Agriculture, I've been a silent member of this forum since January 2015 taking my time to read virtually what is being posted here by different writers.
Some good and truthful while some are worse than lies.

Agriculture, like any other legitimate business is a worthwhile venture given that who ever is into it is willing and ready to follow the required GAP (good agricultural practices)
The basic truth is that there is no magic in it neither is it a get rich quick avenue.
Whatever you plough into is what determines what comes out to you.

I once met a guy who said one can make millions within few months and I laughed.
Of course it is possible but are we ready to pay the price?
Most times they tell us what we want to hear and not what we must hear to succeed in this line as a profession.

If you must succeed in agriculture, you must be ready to pay the price; learn, be mentored, spend morning, follow instruction and pay attention to details. Then the God of increase will smile and crown your efforts.

Keep a date with me, let's grow together.
