taurus21:
The Emiratis are a proud lot...you would be too if in less than 50 years you are able to transform a Bedouin Arab desert state into one of the most important trading hubs in the world. In fact, Dubai is second only to Hong Kong in attracting merchants from around the world. One of the things that have made Dubai what it is today is their ambition in conquering the world with contemporary architecture. In order to prove to the world that Dubai is indeed in a class of its own, the city planners together with private companies came up with the tallest building in the world - The Burj Khalifa.

Dubai is second only to Hong Kong in attracting merchants from around the world. One of the things that have made Dubai what it is today is their ambition in conquering the world with contemporary architecture. In order to prove to the world that Dubai is indeed in a class of its own, the city planners together with private companies came up with the tallest building in the world - The Burj Khalifa. Below are a few facts about the skyscraper.

1. At 828 meters (2,716.5 feet) tall, Burj Khalifa is 3 times as tall as Eiffel Tower and twice as tall as the Empire State Building.
2. Burj Khalifa holds the world Records on: tallest freestanding structure in the world, highest number of stories in the world, highest occupied floor in the world, highest outdoor observation deck in the world, elevator with longest travel distance in the world, and tallest service elevator in the world.
3. It is said that the weight of concrete used to build the skyscraper is equivalent to 100,000 elephants and the steel used to construct the frame is equal to that of 5 Airbus 380 aircrafts.
4. The building design takes after the Greek flower, Hymenocallis. The name is translated as Beautiful Membrane in Greek.
5. The building was constructed by a South Korean Company called South Korean company, Samsung Engineering and Construction.
6. Burj Khalifa was built at a cost of $1.5 billion, It is supplied with about 250,000 gallons of water daily, and its electricity needs can go up to 360,000 100-watt bulbs burning at once.
7. During the peak of construction, atleast 12,000 workers worked on the construction site per day.
8. The tip of the sphere of Burj Khalifa can be seen from 95 kilometers away.
9. The tower was to be called Burj Dubai but this was changed at the last minute to honor Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi for bailing out Dubai's bankrupt sovereign wealth fund with a $10 billion in 2009.
10. Burj Khalifa has 54 elevators which have a speed of up to 40 miles per hour.
Burj Khalifa is Dubai's pride. It signifies how far the desert country has come in short 50-years. If you are ever in Dubai, your first point of interest should be the towering tower. From its observation deck, you can see the rest of Dubai...you just need a good pair of binoculars.

My 100 level 1st semester exam back then in the dreaded AAU Ekp.

It was an elective course (ELS 103), so the exam was slated for 11am and the venue was the popular NLT hall which can contain a thousand student. The course was an easy one, but due to my hustling, i didn't have time to read. So i have to use "chukuli or ochuko(helper)."

The exam started, and everything was going smoothly for me until one of the English lecturer popularly called "mallam" walked in. He was feared by many, (those muslims with long beards) and i could remeber a girl telling me to stop, i ignored her. Then i heard "Young man, stand up" before i could say "sir" he tore my answer sheet and then dragged me to the lecturer of the course who was already smilling and giving me the malpractice form to fill, but as a warri boy wen i be, "instead of champaigne to waste, make belle kukumah burst" i hit the hands of the mallam and took off with my ID card.

LiteratureRe: What Is Your Definition Of Success? by KoyZ(m): 4:34am On Jul 17, 2016
Have you thought of this?
Success is not only measured by our capacity to make alot of money from our endeavours or our strenght to make ventures and secure properties. But the real definition of success is the impact we make in people's life. This will leave an indelible us in the lives of such people. Hence, we cannot be easily forgotten. That is success.
Nairaland GeneralPhilosophies Of Life To Be Corrected by KoyZ(op): 4:23am On Jul 17, 2016
1. *"WHATEVER WILL BE, WILL BE"*
Whatever will be will not be; you have to make it be. You have a part to play in what will be in your life, so don't leave it to chance.

2. *"HALF BREAD IS BETTER THAN NONE!"*
Why settle for half bread when you can get a full bread or even own a bakery. This is a limiting belief that positions you to settle for less and it is a mediocre philosophy.

3. *"A FOOL AT FORTY IS A FOOL FOREVER"*
A fool at any age can be a fool forever if he refuses to let go of his foolishness. It is never too late to become wise because the day you wake up and wise up is the day you CHANGE!

4. *"FINGERS ARE NOT EQUAL"*
Yes! Physical fingers in your hands are not equal but that does not make any of them valueless. Lose one and you realise that they are all valuable. You are not even a finger, so why look down on yourself.

5. *"LIFE BEGINS AT FORTY"*
If you are below forty and believe this, I feel so sorry for you because it means you are not yet alive.

6. *"WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN"*
Is your age coming down? Is your wisdom and knowledge coming down? Is the price of goods coming down? Think my friend!

7. *"HE WHO LAUGH LAST, LAUGHS BEST!"*
Why laugh last when you can laugh always and why laugh best when laughter is not a competition. When we programmed ourselves with these strange philosophies, they limit and restrict us.

freecocoa:
I'm someone who has always thought revenge to be a 'bad' thing, believing that when someone hurts you and you also hurt the person in return, then nothing makes you different from that person, because you both are a people, that hurt someone, but is this really true? Can/should it be called hurting someone, if they deserve it?

Now, as I keep growing and dealing with people, I'm starting to think my stance on revenge is flawed.

I think I'm beginning to see revenge for what it really is, justice. We often hear, "leave it to karma" some say "leave it for/to god"(this shouldn't be an option btw) but at the end of the day, we can't really say people get what they deserve, in that, bad things happen to good people and good things to bad people and for all I know, "bad" people seem to have it better than the "good" ones in this nonsense world, so should we fold our arms and let people who wronged us feel fly, while we feel miserable?

Someone will argue that, feeling hurt is more a thing of choice than consequence, asking, how can someone hurt you, if you don't want to be? Talking about how it is our minds that hold on to things, therefore we can condition it to let go or not, but is this really true? Do we have absolute control of what we feel? I think not.

Now if someone hurt me and I'm really feeling it, why shouldn't I validate this feeling by seeking revenge? I mean, don't we have a right to want to feel better? Does revenge make one feel better?

what's your take? Should we seek revenge or not? Lets discuss.
"We are but ordinary men, driven to seek justice in the
name of vengeance. But if justice is vengeance then
that justice will only breed more revenge..and trigger a
cycle of hatred."

From observation, it very easy to control humans, smiley but when the effort fails to do this, hardship, complain, murmur and other negative aspect of human nature is felt among others cry . However, life seems comfortable when amenities so needed by humans are provided for consumption and comfort cool. On this platform, electricity which is an aspect of these amenities serves more function to human. But, when not provided, life seems frustrating, uncomfortable, and confusing. For instance, a recent case in the [b][/Federal University of Technology Owerri] , has it that students in the aforementioned campus haven't experienced electric light for the past two weeks. Obviously, this condition is very frustrating especially in an academic environment that is tasking on the side of students in terms of reading and other factors that so needs electricity. Students risks their lives going around villages about the school lately at night for the sake of charging their mobile phones, reading lanterns, laptops and exposing themselves to extreme cold weather reading under street lights. This calls for a reflection for rescue, because it is said that the object of a superior man is truth. Also the greatest of all inventors is accident, therefore we won't allow ourselves to be harmed before we take a step. preferably, a transformer should be implanted rather than total dependence on electric plants or generators. Conclusively, attention should be given to this ugly scenario below. (students reading under street lights), Inasmuch as these challenges, we still remain the greatest, and greatest FUTOITE.. wink grin
