One of the ways to know a true Christian is by what he or she says. When I see Christians talk about what they want to do or what they have done without any reference to the grace of God, I wonder how strong their relationship with the Lord is. John 15:5 says: ...for without me ye can do nothing. Grace is a gift from God that can also be summarily described as Gods help. You need to understand that without grace – Gods help, you can do nothing. Even waking up in the morning is by the grace of God. You would therefore be taking the grace of God for granted when you begin to boast about the things you have done or that you plan to do without acknowledging the grace of God, which empowers you. In Luke 12:16-21, Jesus told the story of a rich man who had gathered a great harvest. In all that this man said, he did not acknowledge God who made that harvest possible. At the end of the day, all his boastings came to nought because he died that very night. Beloved, please don’t take God’s grace for granted; it is only by His grace that you are alive today. It is only by His grace that you are where you are, what you are and have what you have. It does not matter how intelligent, strong or connected you are; if God were to withdraw His grace from you, you would soon realise that you can do nothing without Him. Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. Psalms 127:1 From 1 Corinthians 3:6, we see that human efforts without God’s grace cannot yield results. Paul can plant, Apollos can water the plant, but the increase only comes from God. 1 Corinthians 3:7 says specifically: So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. When you want to talk about something you did, always say, I did so and so by the grace of God. When talking about something you plan to do, say, I will do so and so by the grace of God. Always acknowledge the grace of God in all you do and plan to do. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye |
One of the major things I have come to learn in my decades of walking with Christ is that there is no hopeless situation with God. It does not matter how bad the circumstances are, my God can reverse the seemingly irreversible. In 2 Kings 4:1-7, the Bible tells us of a woman who was so poor and deep in debt that her creditors only hope of recovering their money was to sell her sons. However, in just one day, God turned her story around and she not only had enough to pay off her debt, she also had money to live on for the rest of her life. It doesn’t matter how poor you are now; I decree: God will prosper you, in Jesus name. Your problem may be one of sickness. There is no one so sick that God cannot heal. I was in Ireland a few years ago when a Pastor brought a handkerchief to me to pray on. The lady he wanted to lay the handkerchief on was in the hospital and the doctors had said that she only had a 0.01% chance of surviving. I prayed on the handkerchief and the Pastor took it to her. My God then took the 0.01% chance of survival the doctor had mentioned and used it to give her a 100% healing. Beloved, it does not matter what report the doctors have given concerning you; as long as you can read this or listen to someone else read it to you, I decree that you are healed in Jesus name. In the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we have witnessed several miraculous conceptions and childbirths. In some cases, the women were over sixty years old and some had been declared by medical doctors as unfit to conceive and deliver children. Sarah was 90 years old when she had Isaac. It doesn’t matter how old you are now, those who called you barren will soon be attending the naming ceremony of your children, in Jesus name. God says in Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me? The question is Do you believe that He can do it? James 1:5-7 says whoever comes to ask God for anything without having faith should not expect that he will receive answers to his prayers. A song writer once sang; don’t give up on God because He won’t give up on you. There is hope that all things will turn around for your good if you keep your faith active and live according to Gods will. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
1. Father, I thank You for my life. I thank You for how far You have brought me and where You are taking me to. Thank You, Lord, for all Your protection and provision. I am grateful Lord. 2. Father, please help me to love You more. Help me to do Your will and grow in grace with You more than ever before, in Jesus name. 3. Lord, 3 John 2 says You wish above all things that I prosper; Lord, let me prosper greatly. Give me series of breakthroughs that will bring me into all round prosperity, in Jesus name. 4. Father, if there is anything in my life that does not glorify You, please remove it this moment in Jesus name. If I am holding on to it too tightly, please take it from me by force, in Jesus name. 5. Father, I want to reign with You at the end of time; please don’t let me miss heaven in Jesus name. If there is anything or anyone that can make me miss heaven, please take the thing or person far away from me, in Jesus name. 6. Father, I welcome You into every aspect of my life; Lord, take total control. With You in control of my life, all will be well with me. Please Lord, take total control of my life, in Jesus name. 7. Father, help me to fulfil that purpose for which You created me. I want to fulfl destiny, Lord. I don’t want to come into this world without making significant impact. Lord, please help me to fulfil my destiny in Jesus name. 8. Father, I pray for all my friends and family members, that You will protect them. Let them dwell under Your shadow continually and let no evil befall them, in Jesus name. 9. I cover myself with the blood of Jesus. If death sees the blood, it will pass over; and so death and all its agents will pass over me and all my loved ones, in Jesus name. 10. (Put your hand on your head and prophesy): I will be very great, nothing will be impossible for me. My enemies have become my footstools; everywhere the soles of my feet shall touch shall be an inheritance unto me, in Jesus name. 11. Father, put Your fire on my tongue so that whatever I decree will come to pass. Please give me spiritual authority to command things and see them come to pass, in Jesus name. 12. Your personal prayer request for yourself. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
We discussed fruitfulness as proof of dominion yesterday. Today we shall look at various means by which we can be fruitful and have dominion. Hard work is one of the major means of fruitfulness. The Bible says, "The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want" (Proverbs 21:5 ). Laziness is not a Christian virtue. As a matter of fact, the Bible says "...this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Diligence is so potent that it can be rightly said that nothing shall be impossible for the diligent. Dominion through diligence destroyed the yoke of Jacob on the neck of his careless brother, Esau. Even after he had lost his blessing to Jacob, Esau insisted that the father should give him the leftover of the blessings which his brother took from him. On Jacobs return journey to his father’s house, he was met with Esau who already had dominion. It is interesting to read that the man who got the blessing through crooked means was trembling before the one he had cheated of it. And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. Genesis 33:3-4 The wives and children of Jacob came in succession to greet and bow before Esau. When Jacob tried to bribe his way into having peace with his brother the second time, the brother said he did not need Jacobs wealth. This is because he himself was already blessed to the extent that he had a personal army of four hundred men. (Genesis 33:1, 8-11). Esau told Jacob he had enough; this was from a leftover blessing. Diligence indeed leads to greatness, which in turn leads to dominion. Commit to being diligent in all you do (Ecclesiastes 9:10) and you will indeed have dominion. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
How can we know that someone has dominion? To prove that you have dominion, you must have something to show for it. Kings are known in their domain by their power, wisdom, and more importantly, their possessions. In other words, productivity and fruitfulness are proof of dominion. The story was told of two friends who asked a seer to foretell their future and one was told he would be king while the other was told he would die a pauper. The one who was told that he would become king went home rejoicing and stopped working from that day. Meanwhile, the other man who was told that he would die a pauper went into the jungle and began to cultivate a farm. Some years later, there was a terrible famine in the land and as people were scouting around for food, they stumbled upon the huge farmland of this determined young man. They begged him to give them large supplies of food so that the townspeople would not die of hunger. This man agreed to give them food that would last the period of the famine, on one condition. The condition was that they would make him their king. The people agreed and he was made their king. The proof of his dominion as the king was in his ability to feed the people, even in the midst of the famine. In John 15:16, our Lord Jesus Christ said that the proof of dominion is fruitfulness. He stated clearly that when we bear fruit and our fruits abide, God will give unto us whatsoever we ask for in His name (John 15:16). That is dominion! This is a pointer to the fact that only an achiever could say he or she has dominion. You can only achieve if you have God as your Ally because the Bible says that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders build but in vain (Psalms 127:1). To truly have dominion, connect with the Almighty God today. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Today we shall continue to examine the subject of dominion. This time we are looking at dominion through divine wisdom which is the correct application of divine knowledge. Proverbs 4:7 describes wisdom as the principal thing. Why is wisdom so important and correlated with dominion? The Bible says, "For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it (Ecclesiastes 7:12). The Bible further says Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city (Ecclesiastes 7:19). Furthermore, the Bible says: A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren. Proverbs 17:2 One secret of the choice of Joshua as Moses successor is wisdom, according to Deuteronomy 34:9. How did he acquire this wisdom that gave him dominion? The same text reveals that Joshua's predecessor (Moses) laid his hands upon him. In other words, there was a transfer of anointing for wisdom, from Moses to Joshua. There is a lesson here: Joshua served his master wholeheartedly and he got what even the elders of Israel could not get - wisdom, which earned him dominion as the children of Israel obeyed him. Joshua 1:1 establishes the truth that Joshua indeed served Moses. The problem with modern day followers is that they are not ready to serve wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, scholars and motivational speakers overemphasize principles of leadership only to leave the principle of followership behind. The truth of the matter is that you cannot be a good leader without first being a good follower. Joshua was a good follower, servant and diligent apprentice in the school of leadership; hence, he had dominion. Beloved, if you want to have dominion, you must be full of divine wisdom. This is why the Bible says wisdom is the principal thing. This is possible through a daily study of the Bible. As you study the word of God, the Holy Spirit will reveal wondrous things unto you (Psalms 119:18 ). Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Yesterday we started discussing the subject of dominion and we discovered that it was bestowed upon man at creation but he traded it for the forbidden fruit. Jesus however, came to redeem man and restore dominion unto all those who believe in Him. We will continue with our study today by considering dominion by association – that is, a person can have dominion if the fellow is associated with a powerful personality. An adage in my mother tongue says that a dog can kill a monkey if the dog has the backing of the hunter. In Genesis 13:5 we see Lot having dominion over poverty because of his association with the friend of God – Abraham. However, he lost the dominion when he departed from Abraham in Genesis 13. After a while, when Lot had cut off his association with Abraham, the Bible says that the city in which Lot was living was invaded and because Lot had separated himself from the friend of God, he became a victim of the invasion. Had it not been for the mercy of God and the love of his uncle, he wouldn’t have regained his freedom as we read in Genesis 14:14-16. The Bible says: And he (Abraham) brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people. Genesis 14:16. Who we associate with goes a long way in determining our experiences in life. Proverbs 13:20 says “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” Beloved, may I recommend Someone you can associate yourself with for everlasting dominion? His name is Jesus. The Bible says that His dominion is everlasting. (Psalms 145:13) Why live your life in one form of captivity or the other, when you can operate in dominion over every situation, circumstance, and mountain? Come to Jesus today and have everlasting dominion. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
To the human race, dominion should be a natural phenomenon because it was bestowed upon us at creation. Psalm 8:6 attests to this truth. In other words, one can gain dominion by creation. For example, a buffalo is conceived the same way a lion is conceived. However, dominion is bestowed upon the lion over the buffalo. When David considered the privileged position God placed man in, he could not help asking, "What is man, that thou art mindful of him?" And the son of man, that thou visitest him? (Psalms 8:4 ). The question here is, What should man do to appreciate the One who bestowed this dominion upon him? The answer is not far-fetched; the Bible says: Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, o my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Psalm 103:1-2 Beloved, you should not struggle to have dominion because it has been given to us at creation. Another question then is, "Is this a reality in the life of everyone?" The answer is simply "No" and this is because man sold his dominion for a taste of the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:1-7). This now leads us to the necessity of redemption. It is redemption that can restore this dominion. I remember how I was running helter-skelter, away from wicked people who wanted to use me as their breakfast. I kept on running and suffering until I met Jesus Christ and accepted Him as my personal Lord and Saviour. When a man is redeemed from sin, he is redeemed completely from all other calamities that had dominated him hitherto. He is born again and re-created into the image of God in which he was originally created. This is why Jesus Christ said we must be born again (John 3:3). The Bible also says that whoever is born of God (John 1:12) overcomes the world through faith in the Son of the Living God (1 John 5:4-5). Beloved, you have dominion by virtue of your being a new creature in Jesus Christ. Claim, receive and exercise your dominion. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Healing is good but wholeness is awesome. When you experience healing, you must not stop at that - you must proceed to the level of wholeness in good health. There is a secret way to wholeness and that is the way of thanksgiving, praise and worship. Unfortunately, some people don’t know this way. They are incurable request-makers. All they do is issue commands in the place of prayer. They issue commands without expressing any form of gratitude to the Almighty Owner of the heavens and the earth! In Luke 17:12-19, we read about how ten lepers confronted our Lord Jesus Christ with a request for healing. Jesus obliged them and asked them to go and show themselves to the priests. On the way, they all became healed. It however, remained one more step for them to get to the level of wholeness. A typical example of wholeness is what Naaman experienced in 2 Kings 5:14. Naaman experienced wholeness – not mere healing, as there was no trace of leprosy on him after his encounter with the God of Israel. Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, he was clean. 2 Kings 5:14 When the tenth leper saw that he was healed, he returned to Jesus to thank, praise and worship Him. Beloved, look around you and see the things God has already done for you, not just those you are seeking for Him to do. Jesus was so impressed with this thankful man that He decreed his wholeness. The Bible says, And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?…And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole (Luke 17:17, 19). Give glory to God, praise Him, avoid evil, so that you would not only be healed but made whole, too. Beloved, cultivate the habit of praise, worship and adoration of the Most High God. Live holy, and you will continue to enjoy divine wholeness. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Yokes represent bondage and they are of different kinds. The yoke of sickness is a terrible one for anyone to bear and it must be completely destroyed. This is why you need divine anointing to destroy the yoke of sickness. This was a yoke that kept a man bound for thirty-eight years at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:2-9). The yoke of sickness wasted thirty-eight years of his life but he got his deliverance from that bondage when he encountered the anointing upon Jesus Christ. No child of God should be bound by the yoke of sickness since His anointing is available for us as we see in James 5:14. A Church that is void of Gods anointing is not worth attending because the Church is the last hope of the sick, especially for ailments described by orthodox medical practitioners as incurable or terminal. Testimonies of divine healings in our Church programmes confirm the importance of Gods anointing, particularly when it comes to the destruction of yokes of sickness. One case that readily comes to mind is that of a sister who a doctor had said would die within hours. Her husband left her in the hospital, only to invite his mistress to come and spend the night with him in their home. "What about your wife?" The mistress asked. "She has only a few hours to live before she dies in the hospital" the unfaithful husband said, thinking the wife had reached the end of her life. To the glory of God, that same night, the anointing destroyed the yoke of sickness in the sister’s life; she discharged herself and went straight home, only to meet her husband with the mistress. Handkerchiefs that carry divine anointing have destroyed yokes of sickness, times without number. The anointing also serves as a defensive weapon against the onslaught of the enemy. Psalms 105:15 says, ..touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. Beloved, as you seek the anointing of the Almighty God, every problematic situation you are faced with will be resolved to His glory, in the mighty name of Jesus. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Many people do not know how important the anointing is and so they despise it. I have seen situations in which some brethren refused to be ordained because they ignorantly thought that refusing the anointing that comes with ordination is a sign of humility. They could not be further from the truth. Exodus 30:25 says, “And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil”. From the Scripture above, we can safely deduce that there are different kinds of anointing. Today, we will be discussing divine anointing which is holy and can only be gotten from God. This is the kind of anointing everyone should thirst and yearn for. One of the reasons for divine anointing is service, according to Exodus 28:41. God commanded Moses to anoint Aaron and his children “that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office” (Exodus 28:41). Divine anointing seals promotion, as found in (1 Samuel 10:1). This is the case of Saul after he was divinely chosen to be the first king of Israel. Promotion, particularly in spiritual assignments, takes greater responsibility which requires divine backing. In the RCCG, we ordain people in stages as they assume greater spiritual responsibility. As we see in our memory verse today, divine anointing breaks yokes! Divine anointing makes the impossible possible. Classic examples of divine anointing are when Samson tore a lion into two with his bare hands (Judges 14:5-6), and in (1 Samuel 17:33-36) that relates the exploits of David under divine anointing. He killed a lion and a bear after he had been anointed by Samuel. There is nothing a man under God’s anointing cannot do. I therefore urge you to seek the anointing of the Holy Spirit today. “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; Joel 2:1 The very last day of this present age is the day of rapture. That day will be a day of rejoicing for some and a day of sorrow for many. Those who are living holy now will rejoice because they will be caught up with Jesus Christ in the skies and will go to heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:17). The rest however will cry because they would have missed the rapture. In which group will you be? From Zephaniah 1:14, we see that on that day, even mighty men will cry bitterly. Money and connections will not get anyone to heaven; in fact, the Bible says that the love of money will derail many from the faith (1 Timothy 6:10). All your wealth will not help you that day; it is only Jesus Christ that can save you. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:38-39 Jesus said that day will be like in the days of Noah. Everything seemed okay and people were marrying before that day just like they are doing now, but when the trumpet sounds, only those in the family of God will gain entrance into the ark. The One who will open the ark of salvation to us is Jesus Christ. He cannot be bribed or deceived, so those who are pretending to be living holy now will not enter the ark. After we who are in the family of God have been saved, then the flood of tribulations will start and the Bible says woe unto the inhabitants of the earth at that time (Revelation 12:12). Nobody knows when Jesus will return for His saints. If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, I plead with you to do so now, before it is too late. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
“Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Matthew 24:40-41 On that very last day, many will lose their friends. Husbands will be separated from their wives. Some mothers will be separated from their children. One will go to heaven while the other will remain. That fellow who has been preaching to you to live a holy life will no longer be there to preach to you, he or she would have been raptured. I also will no longer be here and that year will be the last year that this Open Heavens Devotional will be published. Beloved, surrender your life to Christ now and live holy so that you will not be left behind on that day. From that day on, all these things that you chase money, houses, cars, fame, marriage and so on will be of no relevance. The only thing that will matter is whether you are in heaven with Christ or on earth with the Anti-Christ. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. “And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. Isaiah 13:11 For those of us who will go to heaven, weeping will end permanently that day (Revelation 21:4). The world may be mocking us for living holy now. They may seem to be enjoying life now, but that very last day is coming when the sorrows of everyone who had not surrendered to the Lordship of Christ will begin. On that day, in the parts of the world where it will be daytime, the sun will not shine its light. Where it is night, the moon will be darkened. The punishment of sinners would then start. Oh, I hope you will not be around to experience the punishment that will come after rapture. I can assure you that you would wish you had given your life to Christ. Put aside all the cares of this world that are hindering you from living holy now; they will no longer matter on that day. I pray you make it to heaven, in Jesus name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
On the first of January 2018, I announced when sharing the prophecies for the year that God said the countdown to the end had begun that year. Jesus Christ is coming back really soon. In Matthew 24:3-14, He gave us the signs to know that His coming is near – famines, earthquakes and pestilences in diverse places, saying that all these would be the beginning of sorrows. In the original Greek language, the word translated ‘sorrow’ there actually means ‘labour pains’. In other words, the world would be going through labour pains in order to give birth to the new world which is the New Jerusalem. When a pregnant woman is about to give birth, she would start having pains, but as she gets closer to delivery, the pains would increase and come more frequently than before. If you check the statistics, you would see that the things Jesus said would be the beginning of labour pains have been happening more intensely and frequently in the last couple of years, than ever before. The earthquakes are more serious and widespread; even places that had never experienced earthquakes before are also having their share. The pestilences are spreading much faster around the world. These should tell you that the end is almost here. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come. Matthew 24:14 As Jesus said, the gospel of the kingdom of God will be preached in all the world and when this happens, then the end shall come. If you look around the world, you will see more and more countries opening their boarders and allowing the gospel to be preached in their nations. I believe that all we are waiting for is for everyone to hear the gospel, so as to have a chance to give their lives to Christ and then, rapture will take place. No one knows the date or the hour when Jesus Christ will come to take His children, so if you are not one of His children now, you will be left behind when He comes. If, however, you have already surrendered your life to Jesus, please hold on to Him to the very end (Matthew 24:13). We are in the last days already, are you ready for rapture? Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Romans 10:1 The above passage is Paul’s heart’s desire for his country. What is the desire of your heart for your country? Are you happy seeing the people of your country on their way to hell? Are you happy seeing the youths become more and more perverse by the day? If not, then you should do something about it. If you really love the people of your country, then you would not keep salvation to yourself rather, you would preach to them and lead them to Christ. Start from your village. When I became born again, the first major assignment I did for God was to establish a Church in my village. I did it because my desire was to see my kindred getting to know the Lord Jesus Christ. I wanted them all to also enjoy the peace and joy that I now had. I couldn’t bear to watch them on their way to hell. If you take note, you will see that just as Paul described the people of Israel in Romans 10:1-14, your people also have a desire to know God. They yearn to connect with that Supreme Being who is in control of all things, but they are often ignorant as to the identity of the one true God and how to connect with Him. Believe me, when you preach to them, they will be very grateful to you for showing them the narrow path to God. Don’t deprive them of that knowledge and the opportunity to spend eternity in heaven rather than hell. Even if it is only one soul that you are able to lead to Christ amongst your people, that one soul will be eternally grateful to you when he or she gets to heaven. All the effort to win that one soul would have been well worth it. Your people need God, they want to call on Him, but they cannot do so except they know Him. They cannot know Him except someone preaches to them. Why don’t you make yourself available as the bridge between them and God today? Imagine you bringing Jesus Christ to your village. Imagine people coming to your village to receive healings and miracles just because of you. Imagine how much God can do in and for your country just because you preached the gospel there. Don’t deny your people of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
The implication of Caleb’s request in Joshua 14:12-14 is that he was asking for a new responsibility and assignment. It should be recalled that though the Lord had declared that the promised land belonged to the children of Israel, they still had the responsibility of acquiring it. The original settlers would not give up the land they had occupied from time immemorial, hence the need for the Israelites to fight to take what had been divinely declared to be theirs. One of the most difficult types of lands to acquire is a mountain, yet Caleb told Joshua, “Give me this mountain”. The Lord had assured Caleb that He would give that part of the land to him for his good report of faith. This faith persisted even into his old age; he still believed in the faithfulness of God to give him the mountain part of the promised land. In Joshua 14:12-14, we learn that, “Lord, give me this mountain” means, “Give me this assignment and by Your grace, I shall accomplish it”. For example, when you pray that God should make you His minister, you are asking for a great task but I can assure you that His grace will be sufficient for you, according to (1 Timothy 3:1) which says, “If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work”. “Give me this mountain” could also mean, “Make me a missionary and I shall win the world for You” or “Make me Your disciple and I shall do greater works for You”. Desiring to work for God is the best thing that can happen to a child of God. However, it is a great responsibility. For example, in (1 Timothy 3:2) the Bible says, “A bishop then must be blameless…” among other qualifications. In other words, living a sinless life is part of the price of doing God’s work. In (2 Timothy 2:20-21) we read that only those who purge themselves of the impurities of life can carry out divine assignments successfully. Isaiah 6:8 reveals God’s search of vessels unto honour, for which Isaiah volunteered. This was preceded by a process of purification after admitting his unworthiness (Isaiah 6:5-7). Beloved, for you to be used by God to successfully execute divine assignments, you must undergo spiritual purification through a new birth and sanctification by the blood of Jesus Christ (1 John 1:8-9). Today, we shall continue with the study we commenced yesterday on the work of grace in the life of man. In Luke 9:57-62 we are assured that there is someone who can deliver the lawful captive. However, this is only achievable through grace. When darkness envelopes an individual, the fellow’s life becomes meaningless. The power of darkness is from the devil. Those whose lives are engulfed in darkness can never experience peace, joy and abundant life. There is however, good news in Colossians 1:12-15 which tells us that our God has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His Son. This kingdom is the Kingdom of light because the Bible says concerning Jesus Christ: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12 Beloved, in what areas of your life have you been experiencing the devastating influence of the power of darkness? Seek the grace that brought salvation to all men according to Titus 2:11-12 which says, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world”. The lessons from this Scripture are many. The grace of God brings salvation – all-round salvation for that matter. This grace is equally teaching and empowering us to shun a sinful life and worldliness. This is why, when Jesus Christ saw the man who was healed of what hitherto had been described as an incurable disease, later in the temple, He told him, “..Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more lest a worse thing come unto thee” (John 5:14). As freely as the work of grace flows towards us, we must never take it for granted. May the work of grace flow freely in your life, in the mighty name of Jesus. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Every sinner belongs to the Devil (1 John 3: and is a servant of sin (Romans 6:16). A servant in this context is like a prisoner who has lost his or her freedom. For us to be free, we need grace and this can only be found in the truth of the word of God according to John 8:31-32. The difference between a sinner and a saint is that the saint hears the truth and embraces it while the sinner hears but ignores it. For example, the Bible says: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9. The above Scripture contains the truth that set me free some decades ago. Coming from a highly disciplined family, I grew up as a moralist and so thought that I was far better than many people. I did not think I was in any serious sin that could warrant my need for a Saviour. However, the grace of God beamed upon my soul and when I saw my filthy life of hypocrisy, I cried out for salvation. It is the grace of God that brings salvation to humanity (Titus 2:11); however, anyone who trivializes the grace of God is dead already. Noah found grace before God (Genesis 6: , and this led to his salvation. If, however, Noah had toyed with the grace, he would have perished as well.Indeed, it is by grace that we are saved and we must never deny it’s importance in performing all God-given assignments as we see in 2 Corinthians 9:8: And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. Beloved, the Lord has already made His grace abound towards you by giving His only begotten Son – Jesus Christ as a ransom for your soul (John 3:16). Forsake your sins today and access this divine provision by surrendering your life to Jesus Christ. It is the only way to escape the eternal damnation that awaits everyone who rejects the grace of God (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Situations in the world today can make any child of God backslide if he or she is not well-grounded in His word. Knowing this, Jesus Christ told the disciples in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that In me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. Just after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, Peter decided to return to his former trade of fishing along with some other disciples (John 21:3). Many things could have been responsible for their decision to abandon their calling in Christ as evangelists to go back to fishing. Peter and the other disciples that followed him must have felt the future was bleak since their expectation of Jesus as the political Messiah was dashed at His crucifixion. They may also have been disappointed over the fact that, upon His resurrection, Jesus Christ did not restore the sovereignty of Israel as a nation, as expected. This made them ask, “..Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6). Beloved, what may cause you to contemplate going back into the world? Is it joblessness, a troublesome spouse, a failed business, yet-to-be-fulfilled dreams, betrayal from friends or loved ones?. Take a cue from Paul – an apostle of Christ, when he asked rhetorically: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or unclothedness, or peril, or sword?…Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:35, 37. Jesus Christ in our memory verse today warns us against going back when He says that, having decided to work for the Lord, anyone who goes back to the world is not fit for the kingdom (Luke 9:62). Therefore beloved, going back because of what you are passing through is not an option because the Bible says that we should hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering (Hebrews 10:23). The good news is that glory is waiting ahead of you if only you can hold on to Christ and never go back to the world (Colossians 1:27, Psalm 30:5). Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Shining in darkness is one thing but to shine in broad daylight is something else entirely. It is extraordinary The only way to shine in broad daylight is to surrender your life to Christ - the Bright and Morning Star. You cannot shine without Him because you have no light of your own. You must become a disciple of Jesus Christ if you want to shine like Him and to achieve this you must obey His word and continue in it (John 8:31-32). You can only shine when you reflect the light of the Bright and Morning star. When the Bright and Morning Star takes over one's life, many pleasant things begin to happen to that person. For example, Jesus the Bright and Morning Star deliberately came to this world poor, so that through His poverty, we might become rich, according to 2 Corinthians 8:9 which says: For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. Flourishing when the economy of nations and the world in general is struggling is an example of shining as the Bright and Morning Star. Being perfectly whole in the midst of a pandemic is another great example since you have already been healed by the stripes of the Bright and Morning Star (1 Peter 2:24). One of the fastest ways of shining like the Bright and Morning Star is to continue to do what He came to do, what He has also commissioned us His followers, to do: soul-winning. 2 Peter 1:19 says that we His followers shall be wise and shine like the sun; that when we win souls, we shall shine like the stars. Proverbs 11:30 tells us that those who win souls are wise. To shine like the Bright and Morning Star, we must therefore be wise - we must win souls. It is an open secret that I began to shine the moment I made up my mind to win souls into the Kingdom of God. You also can become a star today. Accept Jesus as your Lord, begin to win souls for Him and you will shine forever. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Jesus Christ introduced Himself as the Bright and Morning Star in Revelation 22:12-16 before making some important declarations concerning His expectations from us as well as our promised reward. He was very clear about His expectations because not only does He want us to be like Him, He also wants us to perform greater works (John 12:14). To become shining stars like our Lord Jesus, we must ensure that we do two things. One, we must acknowledge that we were filthy sinners before we encountered Jesus (1 John 1:7-9, Romans 3:23). This knowledge will take us to Calvary where the Bright and Morning Star bled and died for us to access forgiveness and cleansing. This is when we confess and repent of our sins. Two, we must live strictly by His standards. Many people want to benefit from the innumerable blessings of the Bright and Morning Star including shining in the darkness of this world, but they are not ready to surrender completely to His Lordship. If Adam and Eve had known whom they belonged to, they would never have succumbed to the deceit of the devil which suddenly turned their day into night. What are the characteristics of the Bright and Morning Star? He never sinned; hence, to shine like Him we too must live a sin-free life. Many may claim that this is impossible, but it is possible because the Bible says those who are born of God do not sin; indeed, they cannot sin because the seed of God is within them (1 John 3:9). How? John 1:11-12 says that as many as believe Jesus, He gives power to become children of God. The Bright and Morning Star has never been overwhelmed by darkness; even in the day, He still shines brightly to the whole world. The Bible says, “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:5). Sickness is a form of darkness and Jesus Christ was never sick. I therefore declare that the Bright and Morning Star will make sickness history in your life. Do you want to shine like the Bright and Morning Star? Give your life to Him first, and then begin to live strictly by His commandments. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Yesterday we started to discuss numbering our days and we discovered that there are a lot of lessons in counting our days if we do it properly. Today we shall see one profound example of a person who did not achieve all that God asked him to do within the time given to him – Joshua. When Joshua had grown quite old the Lord gave him his performance scorecard and this is food for thought for all of us today. Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed. Joshua 13:1 This was a divine assessment. This is because the Righteous Judge was the One giving the verdict. To what extent have you achieved those goals you set for yourself when you newly became born again? The Lord reminded Joshua that his days of departure were near and yet, there was much land yet to be possessed. You may or may not be a pastor, but there are many souls around you yet unsaved. “Oh, I am not called to be an evangelist” you may Say, but read what the Bible is saying to an early Church bishop and now to you today: But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:5 You were planted in the Body of Christ for a specific assignment and it is taking you a very long time to start, not to talk of accomplishing it. You think you have the whole eternity to perform it? No. I appeal to you to settle down and execute your divinely ordained assignment. It may not be a pulpit assignment, but it is a divine assignment, nevertheless. That business given to you may be so as to give God a befitting sanctuary in your local assembly, yet even five years running, the building is still at the lintel level, whereas you are multiplying the number of your factories all over the place. Remember, do the work of the Lord now whilst it is still day because, When the night comes – when you are old and not as strong as you used to be, it would be too late to work (John 9:4). There are many lessons we can learn when we number our days – in other words, when we put a tally on our days in order to evaluate how we are faring. Numbering our days in whatever form such as birthdays, anniversaries of special events and so on can teach us great lessons and wisdom according to Psalm 90:12. Why should we number our days? Job 14:1-2 gives us an answer. Man, born of a woman is of few days and even these few days are full of trouble. The Scripture likened man to a flower that blossoms then gets cut down and as a shadow that eventually disappears. These clearly show that man’s time on earth is short and hence must not be wasted. We can count our days effectively by evaluating our lives, asking such questions as, “Do I have a goal at all?” “What are my goals?” “To what extent have I achieved my goals?” “Since I have a few days and these few days are full of challenges within and without, what am I doing in preparation for eternity?” We can also number our days effectively by counting our blessings like the Psalmist did when he penned Psalm 103 – particularly verses 1 to 5. This will give us a sense of gratitude to God who has blessed us with multiple blessings even within our short stay here on earth. The Bible says: For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Hebrews 13:14-15 Another important reason we should number our days is the evaluation of how much work we have done for the Lord. When we consider the Great Commission (Mark 16:15) and remember that we have limited time on earth, it compels us to work harder and faster as the work of the Master demands urgency (John 9:4). May the Almighty God help us to make excellent use of our time here on earth, in the mighty name of Jesus. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
The responsibilities of both the husband and wife are spelt out in the Bible, and made very simple. The responsibility of the wife is to submit, while that of the husband is to love. Many homes are in jeopardy because this order is not being followed. These two words – submit and love – are not difficult to understand. We all know what it means to submit and what it means to love. When both parties act on this order, there will be joy in the marriage. Therefore, if there is a home where joy is missing you can be certain that obedience to this instruction from God is missing. A woman who is loved by her husband will blossom. A man whose wife submits to him will always be happy, and at the end of the day, their marriage will succeed. If you are a child of God, this instruction to submit to your husband or to love your wife isn’t a suggestion; it is a commandment from God. If you have not been experiencing joy in your marriage, you may need to check again to be sure you truly love your wife or submit to your husband. A certain woman was always coming to ask me to pray concerning her husband’s behaviour. One day I said to her, “When you get home today, serve your husband’s dinner, then invite him to the table, saying, “My lord”. She responded, “Whose lord?” I continued, “When he gets to the table, kneel and serve him”. She said, “Over my dead body!”. You see, this woman and her husband were both professors and she saw no reason to stoop that low for him. She had given her life to Christ, but her husband was yet to do the same and she really wanted him to. She was quiet for a while then agreed to do as I had instructed. When she got home and did as I asked, her husband said, “Tell the witch doctor who did this charm for you that it will not work on me”. She said “It is not a witch doctor; it is Pastor Adeboye who told me to do this’. He responded, “Really? Is that what they teach you in that Church? I will go there with you, then”. By the time I saw her the next month, her husband had given his life to Christ and joy filled their home. Wife, it does not matter if you are older than your husband, more educated or wealthier than he. As long as he is your husband, the Bible says you must submit. Husband, you must also love your wife unconditionally as Christ loves the Church. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
When God comes visiting you, you can be sure you are in for pleasant surprises. As I have preached on several occasions concerning the issue of divine visitation, when God visits an individual, because He is a benevolent God, He does not come empty-handed as we see in Joel 2:28 and Genesis 18:1-14. My prayer right now is that God will visit you with mercy and favour today, in Jesus’ name. When Abraham was entertaining the three travellers as we see in Genesis 18:1-14, little did he know that they were messengers of the benevolent God he had encountered in Genesis 12. The story of Abraham teaches us that we must be hospitable if we would experience divine visitation. God visits those who share the same attribute of generosity with Him because He is generous. He is so generous that He gave His only begotten Son as a ransom for our sins (John 3:16), thus becoming the Father of millions of people who were once disobedient creatures. When expressing generosity or hospitality, you must do it willingly, not as if you are being forced to do it. The angelic visitors would not have waited had they noticed any unwillingness in Abraham, his wife and the men who dressed a whole calf with speed. One of the important benefits of a divine encounter is that you will begin to hear from God and His verdict on your enemies shall be made known to you as seen in (Exodus 14:1-4), (1 Samuel 16:11-13) and (1 Samuel 17:37). When you have a divine encounter, obscurity shall be terminated immediately and you will be launched into the limelight (John 9:1-7). A divine encounter usually leads to accelerated promotion, according to Exodus 7:1. Your mockers will bow to you as seen in (2 Kings 2:1-15). Most importantly, a divine encounter motivates people towards a closer walk with God in holiness and righteousness, empowering them to become a terror to the kingdom of darkness. Furthermore, a divine encounter makes people more productive and fruitful in the vineyard of God. May the Lord grant you a divine encounter today, in the mighty name of Jesus. In Acts 12:1-12, we read that King Herod killed James the brother of John. On sensing that his wicked act pleased the Jews who were opposed to the disciples of Jesus Christ, Herod went further to arrest Peter for the purpose of executing him as well but prayer was made without ceasing by the Church unto God for him (Acts 12:5). The result of this intercessory act of the Church was heart-warming. The Lord heard the prayers of the Church and sent an angel to rescue Peter from the prison and also from being executed by Herod the king. “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands". Acts 12:7. Beloved, we deprive ourselves the privilege of experiencing great testimonies whenever we do not go to God in prayers. The lyrics of a popular hymn captions this error brilliantly as follows, O What peace we often forfeit, "O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry, Everything to God in prayer". In Acts 12:1-12, we see how beneficial it is to intercede for one another. It is unfortunate that instead of interceding, for example, for a brother or sister undergoing a siege of sin or trial of faith, some people prefer to gossip about them. Many Christian brethren prefer to bury a wounded soldier instead of helping him to bounce back on his feet so that he could continue the fight of faith. The Church interceded for Peter and he was rescued. The Church will always triumph if we can give ourselves to intercession and earnest prayer, one for another. This is the reason even Apostle Paul requested that the Christians should pray for him and the leadership of the early Church (2 Thessalonians 3:1). Prior to this time, this same Paul, together with Silas, prayed and sang praises to God in prison, leading to their mighty deliverance (Acts 16:25-30). The Body of Christ is in serious need of intercession. Will you commit to intercede for your brethren more? Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
We would continue with the discussion we started yesterday on the benefits of intercessions. In 1 Timothy 2:1-8, we are exhorted expressly to engage in intercessions for all men and specifically for our leaders. In this text we see some important benefits of interceding for our leaders. The Bible says our intercession for our leaders will cause us to lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty. This is very important because living under an ungodly leader will promote corruption, as well as a departure from the faith. The Bible says, When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn (Proverbs 29:2). In order not to mourn therefore, we must intercede for our leaders spiritual, political and so on. Believers must therefore not join the world in cursing our leaders but rather pray for them so we can lead a peaceful and godly life. Intercession can also bring about a positive transformation in the life of the intercessor. In Job 42:10 we see that the Lord turned around the captivity of Job after he prayed for his friends. We should also note that Job prayed for his friends while he was still in distress and under intense attack from the enemy. This tells us that God expects us to engage in intercession irrespective of the situation we may be faced with and He will reward our labour of love. Another benefit of intercession is revealed in the effect it has on unbelievers. When we intercede for sinners that they may be saved, our society will be safe for us to live in. As a matter of fact, law enforcement agents may eventually go on holidays when people are converted from criminal tendencies as a result of our intercession. In addition, our intercessory efforts would complement the work of our Great Intercessor – Jesus Christ, who is presently at the right hand of God, interceding for us. As followers of Christ, we must emulate Him and commit to a lifestyle of interceding for all men. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
Intercession can be simply described as the act of saying a prayer or making a statement on behalf of another person or group of persons. The ministry of intercession is as old as human history itself and it can come in different forms. For example, in Genesis 4:15 we see God ‘interceding’ for Cain – a murderer: And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. In Numbers 11:1-3, we see God’s representative (Moses), interceding for Israel when the judgment of God came upon them. The anger of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel because they misbehaved. They cried to God’s representative in their midst who then cried to the Lord, and the result was highly rewarding. There are many lessons from this story, pointing to the benefits of intercession. One, it is a blessing to have a man that God listens to on your side. This tells us the type of Church leader we should choose for ourselves. Two, it is one thing to have a leader that God listens to and yet another to be able to approach such a person with your problems. The children of Israel cried to Moses and he in turn cried to God. The third lesson we should learn here is that the children of Israel chose to cry to God through Moses because they knew their sin would prevent God from hearing them. Isaiah 59:1-2 says that iniquity would make God hide His face and not hear sinners. The fourth lesson is that we should live the life that will make us have direct access to our Father in heaven. The Bible says, “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus” – (Hebrews 10:19). With Jesus in our lives, we can effectively intercede and gain God’s attention and favour. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
The declaration of our Lord Jesus Christ in John 10:14 calls for deep reflection. In John 10:14 Jesus openly announced, “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine”. Jesus confidently declared Himself a good shepherd based on the three major assignments of a shepherd which are provision, protection, and direction. The Lord proved Himself as Jehovah Jireh – the Great Provider by bringing money out of the mouth of a fish in Matthew 17:27. He quenched the thirst of His people by bringing water out of the rock in Exodus 17:6 and provided Manna to feed the people in Exodus 16:15. God has also proven Himself as Jehovah Nissi – the banner of protection over His people. We have examples of miraculous deliverances from powerful enemies in the Bible. Paul and Silas were singing praises to God. Then the Lord rose on their behalf to deliver them from bondage (Acts 16:25-26). Jehoshaphat appointed singers to praise the beauty of God’s holiness and the Lord destroyed their enemies (2 Chronicles 20:21-23). Also, God has proven Himself to be All-knowing. The book of Daniel 2:22 says, “He revealeth the deep and secret things: He knoweth what is in the darkness, And the light dwelleth with him”. It is a settled matter that Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd. The fact that He knows all His sheep is confirmed in Acts 15:18 that says, “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world”. God knows each of His children by name, He knows how many strands of hair are on their heads, He has the details of their vital statistics, He is fully aware of their family tree from the beginning of creation. One important attribute of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd is that He feeds His sheep. He fed over 5,000 men (not counting women and children) with just two fishes and five barley loaves of bread. He caused the food to multiply so much that even after feeding the multitude, there were twelve baskets of fragments left over (Matthew 14:14-21). Jehovah Jireh can fill you to overflowing. He can meet and even surpass all your needs and expectations (Philippians 4:19). The Lord is inviting you to dine with Him today. Will you accept the invitation? Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
The truth about God’s absolute sovereignty is seen in Daniel 4:34-37. King Nebuchadnezzar declared, “And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me. and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation” (Daniel 4:34). Psalm 115:3 confirms this truth about our God who is in heaven and does as He pleases. These Scriptures are food for thought for those who would want to live a good life here and in the hereafter. One major lesson here is that God is capable of doing and undoing anything. He can kill and He can make alive. Where then, is the bragging of mere mortals who, by a stroke of grace, are placed in privileged positions and begin to behave like the Almighty?. King Nebuchadnezzar learnt his lesson the hard way, however, God was gracious to him and he lived to tell the story of the consequence of his pride. King Herod was not as fortunate as Nebuchadnezzar because in his arrogance, an angel of the Lord struck him and he was eaten up by worms before dying (Acts 12:21-23). One then wonders why those in authority tend to act as if they have the power of life and death. Some even wrongly allow themselves to be addressed as if they are truly sovereign like the Most High God. This is the reason some of them refuse to allow Christ to reign in their domain. They would do everything possible to obstruct the gospel. How ignorant they are!. The Psalmist says, “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision” – (Psalm 2:2-4). I can attest to the absolute sovereignty of God in every area of life and that is why I am determined to serve Him for the rest of my days. It would be best if you did the same. The place of the Bible as the unchangeable and living word of God should be firmly established in our hearts. Apart from the fact that the word is Holy-Ghost inspired, it is also prophetic. That is why Mark 13:31 says, Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away, which is also echoed in Luke 16:17 that says, And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Therefore, the word of God according to the Bible is empowered to work for whosoever believes and acts on it for salvation, healing, deliverance, prosperity, and so on. Having faith in God and the power of His word is vital to successful Christian living. Faith in God is the sure way to be established and experience all-round success in life. Belief in Gods prophets is a sure means to growth and prosperity. Anyone who fails to believe in God may have great parents, be filled with great talents and endowments, have great abilities and strength, be well connected, and even reach celebrity status, yet such a person will not be established or end his or her sojourn on this earth well. Isaiah 7:9 says, .. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established. This brings us to 2 Chronicles 20:20 which shows that our belief in God and His genuine prophets will ensure that we succeed in life. Just like that lord in 2 King 7:1-20, he disbelieved the word of the prophet and it cost him his life while others enjoyed the abundance prophesied. We have numerous examples of how the lives of individuals and even a whole nation were turned around for the better through the intervention of a prophet. Great personalities in the Bible like David, Saul, Rebecca, Jehoshaphat, the widow of Zarephath, Nebuchadnezzar, and others, benefited greatly from the services of prophets, therefore it is necessary to identify genuine prophets of God in order not to trivialize prophetic ministrations to our own disadvantage. We must also avoid falling into the trap of false prophets. The fact is that if God said it, that settles it. By the grace of God, I know from personal experience that the word from the mouth of a genuine prophet of God is one of the most potent weapons on earth. I therefore prophesy to you today that it is well with you, your family, your business and ministry, in Jesus name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |
The Bible is a sacred document provided by God Himself as the approved source of information for man about everything in life. The Bible is called the word of God because it contains all that God has to say about everything in creation, either visible or invisible. We therefore consult the Bible to know the mind of God on issues of life and eternity. For example, Hebrews 9:27 says, and as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Concerning the judgment, 2 Corinthians 5:10 says, For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. We are further told in Matthew 25:41, then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. Mark 9:44 adds, Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. These passages speak of hell – a place where those who do not have faith in Christ are sentenced to suffer forever. It is obvious form the behaviour and lifestyle of many people that they are not conscious of the reality of hell. So was the case in Bible days. Luke 16:23 says, And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. By this time, it was too late for the rich man. He then made a passionate appeal for his relatives in Luke 16:27-28, saying father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. The rich man’s request was flatly refused on the basis that living souls should listen to their prophets and preachers. Hell is real and everything the Bible says about it is true. Psalms 9:17 tells us that the wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Galatians 5:19-21 identified some things that fall under the works of the flesh, things that are sure to take anyone who practices them to hell fire. Beloved, keep away from these sinful acts to escape the agony that awaits all sinners in hell. May the Lord help you to stay blameless, in Jesus name. Written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye. |

and is a servant of sin (Romans 6:16). For example, the Bible says:
