Music/Radio / "Bad News" - Did Don Jazzy Really Need To Sub D'banj's G.O.O.D Music Collabo? by kreative: 3:02pm On Sep 14, 2012
Yesterday, we finally got to listen to a G.O.O.D Music collaboration that featured our very own D'Banj. The Kokomaster featured on the Pusha T’s track, along with 2 Chainz, Common, CyHi Da Prince, D’Banj, Kid Cudi & Raekwon.

And as expected, it was a trending topic on social media, especially Twitter. An interesting angle to the whole debate however, was Don Jazzy's tweets, which were posted around the time the issue was hot on Twitter.

"Do something positive with your life today. Stop counting other people's money for them. Especially when u haven't achieved half of what they have," he tweeted in reaction to the acidic comments that trailed the song.

In subsequent tweets, he however seemed to take a swipe at his former business partner and friend. "U'll say Naija aint progressing. How will it progress tho if all u do is wait for bad news that u can join other daft people to laff about?"

He then added: "U send ur man to d moon on a mission and he encounters a little setback. Re u to blow his space shuttle off the sky or pray all goes well?

Well, here's my two naira point of view on those tweets. I honestly feel those messages were what we call 'subs' on Twitter, for D'Banj. The Kokomaster has not exactly been on his A-game, since the two split over differences in ideas and concepts. Most of his songs after the MoHits era, have left a lot to be desired, distinctly missing Don Jazzy's super touch.

But D'Banj wanted the international playing field, while Jazzy insisted on home comfort and familiar territories. That is why that line about "sending your man to the moon" sounds more like "I thought you wanted to achieve the impossible?"

However, the super producer was quick to dismiss the notion. One of his followers, @Dirawn75 tweeted: "Ds Donjazzy sef dey f**k up... Twee'n bou #Badnews #Setback subin D'Banj. #Immaturity @ itz peak!

Don Jazzy replied: "See ur life."

I'm afraid, the only thing I saw, is what I have expressed clearly above. And I, just like (a few) other observers, take sides with @Dirawn75.

No, Don Jazzy didn't need to. I won't go as far as accusing him of immaturity, but I think it will be better if he focused on building the Mavin brand up to what we know he can do. And very quickly too. Most of the songs on the Solar Plexus album, were half-baked, painful to listen to and belittled the genius that we are convinced he is. It is not as if he has exactly been flying (whether to the moon or not), without D'Banj.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Ronaldo Might Be Jealous Because Messi, Rooney, 7 Other Players Earn More by kreative: 4:23pm On Sep 04, 2012
It is no longer news that Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy at Real Madrid. And after the superstar announced this after scoring a brace against Grenada, there have been different school of thoughts, as to why he is sad. Although the Portuguese forward wasn’t specific, a lot of observers have speculated it is because Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta, won the UEFA Best Player ahead of him.

Others think he is sulking for a new deal at the Spanish club. Although his lucrative deal runs for another three years, it might just be possible that it is indeed the reason the former Manchester United player is not happy. There are currently nine players – including fierce rival, Lionel Messi and former team mate, Wayne Rooney, who earn more than the 27-year-old.

These are the players who earn more:

1. Samuel Eto’o [Anzhi] – €20m
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic [PSG] – €14.5m
3. Wayne Rooney [Manchester United] – €13.8m

Literature / Zone/zm Style Out This Week! by kreative: 4:03pm On Feb 17, 2010
This is it. And am talking about that Michael Jackson movie (or is it documentary?). In case you missed those 120 minutes of spellbinding genius and pure brilliance that showed for just two weeks, it basically re-enacted the final rehearsals of arguably the greatest artiste and entertainer of our time. His vocal prowess, his amazing dance routines and above all,an unrivalled dedication to his art. It projected MJ in a different light and emphasised the fact that his music was not just timely but timeless. But that is not my point.

When I say this is it, I am talking about the fifth edition of Zone Magazine, a special issue by all scales! What makes it very different from previous editions is the introduction of ZM Style which is essentially centred around fashion, style and events. In this first ZM, Yemi Sax, who is without doubt a firm favourite at exclusive gatherings graces our front cover. We feature Chocolate City's boss, Audu Maikori and Nollywood front line actress, Adaora Ukoh as the Man and Woman of style respectively. In their short interviews, they reveal what makes their style thick. We profile some of the hottest couples in entertainment - Tunde and Wunmi Obe, Dare and Deola Art Alade, Olu and Joke Jacobs, Charly Boy and Lady Di, etc. Our spotlight also falls on Monsumola Umoru, a 21st century farmer who is directly or indirectly putting food on your tables. There's a focus on motivational speakers and Fela Durotoye, Asiwaju Dayo Israel and Pastor Ugonna Emechebe make the cut. We talk extensively about the newest epidemic in town - the Blackberry fever. You can't miss that one. There's an exclusive Black Book which has witty reviews of the biggest and best red carpet events of 2009. Are you salivating yet?

I trust you are. But there is still more in the regular Zone. The front page is a double delight with the newest sensation, Da Grin and fast rising Mo'Cheddah. We also feature the indefatigable Mister incredible, M.I Abaga, G.I Joe, Danny Young, Jimi (Beat FM), Oluwe and Kevin who won the Big Brother Africa 4. We serve you a new recipe you need to try out in the kitchen, reviews of books, movies and albums and sizzling gists as compiled by Reporter Snoopy. There are a couple of events we covered too including our very own Independence Waves, The Finbarrian Reunion, Bold and Green Awards, E- Grad awards, parties etc. There is also a free mix tape with this edition and we offer tips to people visiting Lagos. We have a cocktail of interesting write-ups:Unseen Voices, Stranger than Fiction, Did you know? and Of overkillin' and beef where we critically examine Djinee's track and Kelly Hansome's stand off with the Mo'hits crew.

You will be getting all of that and lots more for just N500! Isn't that simply a bargain??! Needless to say, grab a copy fast. It will be available in stores from this week and will be sold in and around Lagos, OSU, BABCOCK, BELLS, Uyo, Awka, Calabar, Nnewi, etc. And you better hurry cos the copies will fly off the shelves. You can see a preview of what the magazine looks like by copying and pasting this link:Ifreke Inyang's Photos | Facebook

In the mean time,we at Zone Media will have a little get together, pat our backs, gloat over what we've achieved despite the challenges and share some great food and fine wine.

It doesn't mean we have arrived yet. Infact,we are setting new targets for ourselves. And we are sure that with you supporting us all the way, we are destined for unlimited possibilties in 2010!

Cheers!

Pat Utomi, Abike Dabiri, Ben Bruce, others speak at The Future Pre-Awards Conference! REGISTER NOW!

Registration has begun for the second edition of the annual The Future Pre-Awards “Do Something” Conference. It holds on Saturday, 6 February 2009, a day before the awards night.

“We will be giving young people the rare opportunity to meet some of the highest achieving young Nigerians you can find,” Chude Jideonwo, the event’s creative director said. “The conference was an idea that started last year as an extension of our plans to use The Future Awards to develop more practical programmes that can give young people access to knowledge skills and experience that can move them forward. As usual, the focus of our efforts is on role modelling, and this follows that trend.”

The Future conference is different from other conferences because the young people are not sitting down and listening to lectures. “We don’t want that – there is enough of that and we don’t think it’s particularly effective, especially given how broken down our structures are in this country,” Jideonwo said. “At this point, we believe that Nigeria needs to listen to young people to know their issues and how to engage them. Therefore, the format is that these young people are free to ask these role models any questions they have. It’s no holds barred!”

The conference, which has the payoff, “Stop watching. Stop waiting. Stop wanting. Do something!”, holds at the main hall of the popular Welcome Centre, International Airport Road , Ikeja at 10am. The gate fee for the conference is, as usual, highly subsidised at N500, and participants can register at the venue of the event by 8am, or they can register on the website www.thefuturenigeria.com before then to get confirmed seats.

“We are very excited about the speakers that we have. These are Nigerians at the highest levels. The chairman and MD of Shell, Mutiu Sunmonu; the chairman of the Silverbird Group, Ben Bruce; Hon. Abike Dabiri and others,” Jideonwo said. “The conference is broken into three parts: the first generation has Mr. Sunmonu, Mr. Gbenga Oyebode who is chairman of Access Bank and others, the second generation has Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, Mo Abudu, Fela Durotoye, Tonye Cole of Sahara Energy and others, and then the third generation with Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Gbenga Sesan, singer MI, our Business Owner of the Year Mosunmola Umoru, and others.”

More information on the conference and the awards are on www.thefuturenigeria.com. Interested participants can also call Eyitayo on 08022226712.

The Ultimate Search is Back!

Nigerians can’t get enough of the country’s biggest and boldest reality TV show… and so after five brilliant years searching for men and women with intellect, determination and guts: it’s time for the Gulder Ultimate Search 6!

It started at the mysterious Snake Island, and then moved to the meandering cold hills of Obudu. It was also NIFOR, at the very humid forest that houses the Oil palm research institute before we progressed to Shere hills in Jos Plateau State. Last year, the search was for the lost chronicles in Agwu Hills, Mmaku. This year’s search will be set within the undulating plains of the Omodo Forest in Ada, Osun State, and will to stretch man to the very limit of his endurance.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet,” the producers said at the press conference announcing the show last week.

They will be searching for the HORN OF VALOUR hidden in the hands of the beautiful guardian of the forest. It is believed that the secret message on the horn is the only solution that can change the world’s destiny. To find it, these men will battle nature and the wild… is Nigeria ready for this?!

Entry to the Search is free and the selection process will be rigorous and have a national spread. The application form is available on www.gulderultimatesearch.tv

Closing date is 11 June 2009, so register now via the website http://www.gulderultimatesearch.tv; but if you just want all that juicy detail on this year’s show; the website is still the place to go.

The Ultimate Man/Woman who finds the Horn of Valour will exchange it for a cash prize of N7million (seven million Naira), a wardrobe allowance of =N=500,000 and a Brand New SUV. Other searchers will receive cash reward from 500, 000 upwards. And the last woman standing still gets the big N1, 000, 000 reward!
