I have never seen a people so confused as the Ikwerres that hate Igbos passionately yet bear Igbo names, speak Igbo language and practice Igbo culture.

What I choose to believe is what the Ogbakor Ikwerre leader, Eze Godspower Onuekwa, said that any Ikwerre man that accepts to be Ohanaeze President is an enemy of the Ikwerre people. He said this on a video that has long gone viral

I understand where Onuekwa is coming from, he wants Ikwerre to be recognised as a seperate ethnic group. What he does not realise, or does not want to accept, is that some Ikwerres have looked at those called Igbos, saw no difference, and concluded that they are one and the same. Onuekwa should respect the wishes of the Ikwerre that willingly accept they are Igbo, same way he would want Igbos to respect the wishes of Ikwerre that don't accept to be Igbo. We Igbos may believe that the Ikwerre are part of us, but never can we physically force anyone to be part of us. Those that have done that are the Sokoto empire, Bini empire and Oyo empire. This is in response to Gidgidy's thread were he claimed that there was an agreement entered by the NPC and NCNC to hand over to Ironsi.


At no time were the senior NPC party members consulted by the NCNC leadership to handover to Ironsi.

There's also no legal or constitutional provisions that saw to the Ibo leadership in the NCNC headed by Orizu to hand over power to the military.

The NCNC , thus gave legitimacy to a change in power without recourse to wide consultation not only with the senior NPC MPs or that of the minority opposition AG.


What transpired on Jan 15 was a purely civilian coup by the NCNC led by Zik. The coupists just did their dirty wet works in getting rid of the leaders of other regions and from there Zik activated Orizu to ensure power transmitted to Ironsi.


This video below proves what I am ascertaining here because we can see Zik giving legitimacy to a military take over even though there was no provision in our constitution for that.

Even Zik's countenance and eagerness for Ironsi to take over in this BBC interview shows he knew before hand of the coup. And why was Zik so sure the PM was dead even though he was still officially "missing"? Zik knew that Belewa had been murdered and that's why he wanted powers to go to Ironsi instead of the next most senior party member of the NPC - a northerner.

For those who will say Zik had informed the PM, Sarduna and Akintola of an imminent coup, they fail to state that the Nigerian police E-Branch (Espionage branch) had already hinted the PM. The Sarduna also had an inclination of what was to happen after noticing troop movements around his house days before Nzeagwu stormed his house and murdered him. The Sarduna had complained to the Police about the unusual troop movements around his residence to which the police investigated and told him that the military was carrying out a "training excercise". The Sarduna didn't buy it. As for Akintola he knew very well a coup was imminent and had prepared adequately to fight to the very bitter end by arming himself and his guards.
