This is actually what happened. No deal has been signed. The government should be more careful about what information they provide to the public.
There are morons in the media who are ready to spin this and use it to attack the government.
Who spinned it? The govt cooked up $600m out of the blue and went to town with it but your blaming the media for doing their job?
Plsss man

Una go open mouth waaa! Do you know how much MTN pays as tax to government from the profit they made? If they are making a loss, how much do you think they will pay as tax?

Loss = no tax

30% of profit is paid as company income tax for big companies like MTN.
Thanx for educating the dumb dude

Imagine making it seem as if the profits they made previously must fell on them from the sky and they never worked for it.
A company loses 500bn due to no fault of theirs and his response is to mock them. If they decide to kick their wound by sacking staff, folks like him will still come out to call them names.

Revenue increased very significantly which proves that there business is still booming in Nigeria. This is forex devaluation challenges because most of the inputs are imported.

They should look at possibility of import substitution and govt can please give them some incentives on such import substitution.

There is now stability in the forex market so MTN should feel reduced pressure from forex volatility in subsequent quarters.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!
You are right that revenue increased but what is depressing is such massive revenue not worth more than tissue paper because of naira depreciation. The enemies of Nigeria need to lose fast fast o

One more thing....it does not matter at the end what happens in other countries....NIgerian power sector needs to be run profitably to supply us with power 24/7. If it means high tarrif, so be it. You can yell at me and call me liar, but this one is true.

Well, VIetnam is a state run concern. And they have a lower populaton than we do. Nigeria has privatised power since 2013...and the right thing should have been to let them set their prices...but no.

As for examples..let's use Ivory coast. It used to be like Nigeria with even grid collapsing...until 1993, when they privatised power, and even additionally let the sector set its prices.

NO power cuts since 1993, no problems with grid collapse.

As for Vietnam

SO, issues

Must you tell lies? Even during afcon, Cote D'Ivoire had power outage

When someone dives into the realm of unprovoked insults, it is an indication of his own personal limitations and an admission that he sees the person he is insulting as superior to him. Hardly will a person insult someone he feels he is superior to, except it is a response to a direct insult.

I will not insult you because you are not worth us exchanging insults. But just to correct some notions. I am not in competition with anyone over who is more qualified or "holier than thou" to criticize anyone. I leave such things to people like you.

If you have any minister you want to call out, call him out. The sky is big enough to accommodate all birds.
Where did I insult you? Exposing your hypocrisy is an insult?
I insist you're an hypocrite for attempt to divert attention from the crux of Suswam's message to Suswam himself in contradiction of your earlier admonition to call wrong for what it is regardless of who is at the receiving end.

Sorry for quoting you again.

Telephony is an expensive thing. When GSM came here, it was expensive. Very much so. MY first sim in 2004, and it took me two years to make the plunge...cost me N7000. Ntel. I did not even get MTN till 2007..when the price had dropped to make it make sense.

Yet because government let there be free market, it made sense for investment to flow into GSM, and for us to go into a point where phones went from being for the very rich...to even poor people having phones.

That is how the free market works.
Why has free markets not brought down the price of fuel in Ghana and Niger republic? Why has more investments and jobs not flown into those countries? Last I checked, Niger still has a single refinery with a capacity not even close to that of Dangote.
You people run to gsm whenever you want to make case for free market but run away from diesel and kerosene that have been deregulated since 2011 yet no investment or jobs in that sector. How com? Tell us about that too

You can take a look at this thread and see what I said about underperforming ministers:

https://www.nairaland.com/8076360/tinubu-may-sack-replace-some

You can also call out any minister you want to call out and explain his limitations or proffer suggestions on improvement.

There is no you versus me, but as citizens, our common interest ought to be the advancement of our country. You also have a voice: use it. If it is not loud enough, we come together to amplify it so the message gets to those it should.

Why I called Suswam out is that he had his chance as governor and blew it. Even Peter Obi had his chance and blew it. Also Atiku had his chance as vice president. What is the verdict? So when I hear them pontificating emergency political morality as latter-day saints of probity in leadership, it is irksome.

Elections are over. Time to proffer solutions if we have them. If the country fails, it would affect all of us. If it succeeds, it is our collective success.

Guess what? Those who worked really hard to deliver for their people as politicians offer solutions in the quiet of their networks.
Are you now saying it's only those who have never "blew their chance" that can call out wrong? Are you saying you're more qualified than Suswam, Obi or Atiku to criticise, appraise or advice govt appointees? Can you explain what makes you better your Holiness?
I also find your hypocrisy amazing. On the thread where you pontificated on the need to call out wrong, you never laid a proviso probably because it did not suit your particular bias then. But here on this thread, you have adopted the "He who is without sin" posture. Double-faced hypocrisy!!
Lastly, the minister that most deserves to be called out, condemned and asked to resign is the minister of petroleum under whose supervision, we have had about the lowest oil output, failed subsidy removal, stalled refinery rehabilitation and now fuel scarcity. That's the worst performing minister of this administration and deserves an outright sack and be kept far away from any govt circle!!

Wow, you remember what I said!

I am saying Suswam must spread his tentacles and also admit his own incompetence. I stand by my earlier stance that you must call wrong wrong even if your father (or yourself) does it.
Oya call wrong wrong in the case of the ministers and stop diverting to Suswam who is not a minister.
The Minister of Petroleum for example is quiet in the face of the biting fuel scarcity!! Call him out and stop being an hypocrite!!

Are you not an hypocrite like this?
