Interesting how both teams that had a foot on the semis from last week turned around to lose the tie😂
I knew the Athletico & Dortmund would be dicy but I expected Barca to go through even if they've been poor all season, we could blame it on the red card. It changed the complexity of the game completed. I feel bad for Xavi.🥲
Araujo should be slapped till he turns deaf

11 vs 11, PSG stands no chance.

Whoever wins at the Ethiad tomorrow carries the cup.

Barca were undisciplined in this match and played with the wrong mentality

We have filed a series of cases. We have a case whereby N1bn in April last year (2023) was removed from government coffers under the allocation of renovating 30 roads in the metropolis, and it was taken away and sent to Bureau de Change.
Same stupid Zombies who have been shouting sell your dollars now and blaming state govs for converting allocation to dollars will come and defend this now

Bias could be feeding into the report as it's not definitive as some posters have already mentioned. It's just the writer making a guess. In addition, the report title itself does not match the thread topic.

It was written for Bloomberg Africa by one Anthony Osae Brown and Emele Onu. That sounds like a Nigerian name to me.

At best, it's an opinion article.
Guess? Definitive? The writer made a statistical fact as the fulcrum of his article and you're still casting long doubts.
You need to rethink man

Lagging effect of clearing up the backlog could also be one of the reason for the appreciation. Like I said earlier. It's too simplistic to conclude like the OP because the foreign reserved was depleted by $1.5B.

We can also see that the parrallel market and the official rate are converging, what's your explanation for that?

Ps: It's pointless going back and forth with people that are already sworn to be anti- Nigerian government, anti-good news, and anti-progress all because their candidate lost the election. cheesy
1. Can you explain in cogent terms how clearing backlogs will make naira appreciate?

2. Official and parallel converged because CBN is selling directly to BDCs who make up the bulk of activities in parallel markets with strict instructions not to trade beyond 1.5% of CBN price. In other words, they are not at liberty to sell at their preferred price.

3. What is the relationship between economic discussions and election loss. Is naira value APC or PDP?

Freestuff did not get his maths and his dates correct. The depletion us 5.6%. Freestuffs is claiming $7bn backlog. The dates don't tally as well.

Bottomline is, there's no policy that's a sure solution to fix forex palaver. Anyone thinking forex issues is just a matter of policy will run into the confusion Zombies are battling with now.
The solution is to jump-start the economy to be productive, plug leakages and corrupt tendencies and ensure that govt business is done in a straightforward and accountable manner instead of rent- seeking.
If all that is on ground, whether you fix o or you float o, the naira will be alright.
Any other thing is chasing the wind.

Even if it turns out to be true since this report is still based on guess work and zero evidence , isn't that what you people want i.e. for naira to return to it's previous rate of exchange? They float you complain, they return to previous government style of subsidizing the dollars, you still complain.

Business / Re: Naira Is "World's Best Performing Currency" In April - Bloomberg by Kukutenla: 11:03am On Apr 16
@Legendhero, I have taken my time in the interest of fairness to lay my hands on oil data for 1999 to 2005. This is because while I still believe using crude production as an excuse for poor management of the economy is lazy and peurile as it is a case of a workman blaming his tools, I am very certain that head to head, APC has had more dollars to play with from oil than PDP did.
I was able to get the data from NBS website as I suggested to you. Curiously, it stopped at 2014! However, since the overlapping values largely tallies with those from CBN, I think it is ok to go with it. You can access the data from this link: https://nigerianstat.gov.ng/elibrary/read/627
Some points to note.
1. Since the data stops at 2014, and APC has only ruled for full 8 years, I decided it is only fair to compare APC and PDP in terms of their first 8 years. Note that PDP met official naira exchange to dollar at N22 in 1999 and left it at N125 in 2007 which is a differential of N103 at an average of N12 loss in value per year. APC took it from N199 in 2015 to N900 at the end of 2023. This is a differential of N701 at an average of N87 per year.

2. Again you showed yourself poor at maths. The calculations you gave was based on average monthly production. To get the full picture, you have to multiply the average by the number of days in a month and then the average price given by the CBN report to get total revenue for that month. If you do that, rather than the funny $23bn you got in 9 years for PDP and $10bn in 9 years for APC, which are definitely unrealistic, you will get $348bn for APC as at 2023 Dec and $285bn for PDP as at 2007 Dec. With these figures, it is clear to everyone who had more dollars to play with in their first 8 years.

3. Note that I still insist that crude production cannot be a veritable metric because it is within the control of the govt in power so you cannot in all fairness use their laxity and incompetence at crude production as an excuse for their failures.

Thank you.

And the APC Jokes will come and say ...HE IS NOT PAYING SUBSIDY.

There has been a subsidy since October last year, otherwise fuel would have been costing N1000 or more. The government wants to stay in power, which is why they keep the subsidy.

The funny thing is there are people who oppose tinubu, blast him for wasting money on subsidy, and lying about it, and then turn around to support the same subsidy.

If the subsidy had gone in 1993, by now we would have had more than six working refineries, and a ton of exports of petrochemicals. But Nigerians WANT CHEAP THINGS.
