Business / Christmas Budget: How To Avoid Going Broke by kunlebeat: 8:35am On Dec 23, 2019
What is your Christmas budget looking like? You don’t want to go broke after the festivities are over because January is almost around the corner + it’s a long month. If you get the drift. There’s school fees, house rent and many other responsibilities waiting for you and watching you in 3D. Fun is such a good thing; but unfortunately, the fun can be expensive. So, if you don’t want to go broke in the New Year, please draw up a Christmas budget and check out the tips below:

MAKE A CHRISTMAS BUDGET
The first step to having your bank account not bleed in the name of Christmas is to make a budget, that will give you clarity on how much you can/want to spend. Do this before you start going through your kid’s Christmas lists and before you head out to the market. You can begin by making a comprehensive list of all the expenses you need to make, and then moving on to eliminate all the ones the house can survive without. The key to making a sustainable budget is making it a realistic-one that you will be able to stick to.

STICK TO YOUR BUDGET
Planning a Christmas budget is good, but conditioning yourself to stick to it is the only assurance that the aim is accomplished. Once you’ve drawn up your realistic budget, stay resolute to not spend a cent outside of it no matter how tempted you get. Keep track of all your expenses and never spend on anything that is not budgeted for. ................

Health / Raising Children: 6 Things Mums Should Do Daily by kunlebeat: 8:11am On Dec 20, 2019
When raising children, you have to be super intentional as a mum.

Thanks to our busy schedules, it has become increasingly difficult to skip those activities that build the mother-child bond.

Making and maintaining deep connections with our kids’ so important. Surprisingly, the simplest of things, when done consistently, is the way to reach this and achieve the sort of relationship we long for with our children.

No matter how challenging your schedule might be, below are 6 things Moms ought to do for their kids’ everyday.

MAKE TIME
Part of being a good mum when raising children is being a great friend.

Make time and conscious efforts to really connect with your kids. Spend at least an hour of each day with them. Show interest in all that concerns them. Ask about their day in school. If they liked their breakfast. Create time to gist with them and hear their opinions of matters, relevant or not. Have pillow fights, mimic cartoon characters; sit down and let them crawl onto your lap, and kiss your kids on the cheek as you tuck them into bed.

LAVISH ATTENTION ON THEM
Learn to put down your phone, stop doing the dishes and be present when your children are seeking attention. It may be to ask for an item they can get themselves or to report another sibling, but it matters a lot to them, the feeling that is taken seriously and being heard; for which we need to be fully present and display that they have our full attention.

BE KIND
There is no doubt we love our children, but love without kindness doesn’t feel very loving. As much as is possible, let your words and actions always portray kindness...................

#MamadorBreakfastSeries: Healthy Breakfast, And the Mamador Light Fat Spread Con

After going for at least 7 hours (the period you were asleep), without food, I believe it is safe to say that breakfast is something that should not be toyed with, it should be taken seriously. Even though you were asleep for most of the time, it does not change the fact that you went without food and after a while, breaking that fast is important.

99% of the healthiest breakfast food is lightweight. Now not only do they satisfy you, they do not impede your daily performance but rather, help you perform better.

Studies have shown that kids and young adults who go to school without breakfast tend to have a less than impressive performance in school work. Same goes for an adult in their.............

Effective natural home remedies for cough, cold and catarrh

Cough, cold catarrh are symptoms that go hand in and, several times, cough and cold occur as a result of cold. These are not strange symptoms and many households have had to battle them at one time or the other, especially for children.

Relying on medicines or conventional ways to treat cough, cold and catarrh is not a bad idea but there are better ways of going about the treatment. The best treat is the natural treatment which means using homemade and natural remedies.

When cough and catarrh affect little children, their parents also undergo stress, if the child is a toddler and is yet to speak, ties can become worse. Even as adults, cough, and catarrh are not symptoms that people embrace, everyone hates them because.........................

Good morning cheese lovers! This particular Grilled Cheese Sandwich breakfast recipe is very intriguing because we will be using three (2) different types of spread for this sandwich. For those that would like to go on a foodventure, this is for you

Ingredients:

2 slices bread

Butter

Mayonnaise

Cheese (the quantity depends on the size of bread)

Directions:

Heat a heavy pan over medium-low heat.

Thinly spread one side of each bread slice with butter. Spread the other side of each slice with mayonnaise and place the bread, mayonnaise-side-down, in the pan.

Divide the cheese evenly on top of the buttered slices. Adjust the heat so the bread sizzles gently.

When the cheese is about halfway melted, use a spatula to flip one slice over on top of the other, and press lightly to melt.

Keep turning the sandwich until both sides are crusty, and the cheese is melted.

Health / Do You Want A Chubby Baby? Then, You Need To Read This by kunlebeat: 12:02pm On Oct 04, 2017
A chubby or chunky baby is the desire of many mums. As much as we long to have a chubby or a well-fed baby, we must also know when to exercise some caution in terms of a baby’s diet. More so, an obese baby faces a life-term of medical problems including obesity, Erb’s Palsy and hypoglycemia.

A baby who is not eating well, or who needs a lot of calories, may experience problems such as the following:

1.Getting tired more easily.

2 Have trouble gaining weight.

3.Weight loss

To gain some weight and have more energy, these babies need to get more calories from what they eat and drink. It can be difficult to get a baby to eat more. But, it is possible to increase the amount of calories in your baby’s meal. This is called energy boosting.

The three major ways to get your baby become chubby and also eat more calories are:

Offer your baby foods that are highest in calories first such as breast milk (if you don’t breastfeed for a good reason, do contact me for an alternative), healthy infant cereals and strained meat.

Offer your baby the lowest in calories meals such as pureed or mashed fruits/vegetables.

Add extra calories to your baby’s food

Here are some ways you can add extra calories to your baby’s food:

Mix infant cereal with expressed breast milk or formula instead of water.
2.Add grounded meat and vegetables to your baby’s cereals

3. Add 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of unsalted or cooking oil to every 1/4 cup (60 ml or 2 oz) of your baby food

4-Add pureed fruit and plain homemade yoghurt to your baby cereals.

If you consciously observe the steps listed above, you would have us to thank for the............

kunlebeat:
A good nanny, though hard to come by, can be likened to an angel. In the light of the recent reports of evil nannies, here are 7 ways to hire a good nanny

1.Referral is key: Hiring a nanny can be very tasking especially when you don’t know how to search for one. It’s very important to note that hiring a nanny based on referrals is advisable for mothers. Close friends, associates can actually help refer you to a reliable source for a nanny instead of searching randomly. Anytime the issue of hiring a nanny comes up in a discussion, the ‘OLX nanny saga’ readily comes to mind. Simply put, the best way to hire a nanny to watch over your precious children and home in your absence is through referrals or from a reliable source.

2.Background Check: Embarking on a fact-finding mission to know the background of the person that will be around your kids shouldn’t be overlooked. Failure to carry out some back checks could cause an irreplaceable damage because you can’t tell what your would-be nanny is capable of or not capable of doing by mere face value. You can ask to meet some of her relatives, speak to guarantors so as to get someone that can actually vouch for her.

3.Health Check: What is the health status of your nanny? Do you know what ailment he or she suffers from? How often does your nanny go for medical check-up? These questions must not be overlooked because they are key at ensuring that your child is safe around your nanny. You must also observe check her personal hygiene and how good she’s faring in that department. Also find out if your nanny is also prone to falling ill frequently.

5.Hire someone that meets your standard: In order to know if your nanny is actually up to your standard, you need to look out for certain comparisons. You must share similar likes. Conduct an interview for your prospective nanny, ask her questions that you...........

Health / Time Saving Tips For Busy Mums by kunlebeat: 4:53pm On Aug 08, 2017
The key to good time management as a busy mum is forward planning. By this, we mean that a day before, plan and write out a list of things you need to do the following day. This saves you time and stress. As you get better at time management, you can begin to plan for a new week ahead of time. Also, don’t procrastinate; don’t wait until you are falling asleep tonight to plan tomorrow morning.

So, right now, as you are reading this begin to think about tomorrow’s plans. Where do you plan on going? Is there anything you need to remember? Please write it down and lock it down in your phone reminder. In the mean time here are a few time management tips that works best for every working mum.

Night Before Prep

While you are probably fagged out at the end of each working day, you can save yourself so much time and stress by planning ahead for the new day the night before. Here are a few ideas:

1.Do you have a school lunchtime table for your children? If you don’t have one, why not? Having a school lunchtime table saves you so many headaches especially when it comes to planning their school lunch. If you don’t, do send us a mail and we will send you a free lunch timetable for free.

2.Another time-saving hack for busy mums, is to prepare your children’s school bag/ backpacks a night before and place them close to the door a night before? That way your children can just grab the bags in the morning and off they go to school. Now you know mums!

3.As a mum, you must have a cleanup routine, which you carry out every night. So, before you go to bed each night, try as much as you can to put away all the clutters that must have gathered during the day. Examples include your children’s dirty clothes, toys, dirty dishes and even your clothes. By doing this every night, you save yourself so much time when you get the kids ready for school in the mornings. This tip is a must-do if you do not have any live in nanny. You can also include the kids and your...............

Literature / I Married My Wife A Virgin But For Over 4 Years We Are Yet To Concieve by kunlebeat: 2:09pm On Aug 04, 2017
I met my wife, Aramide, during our university days, although we hardly spoke to each other because she was among the female nerds who refused to talk to boys all in the name of been serious with their studies. So many times I tried getting close to her but she always shut me out with no audience at all. So I gave up, but never stopped loving her from a distance.

Fortunately, Aramide and I were posted to Delta state for our NYSC programme and that’s where it all began.

We became very close friends and from there we started dating after I had to prove my love to her in so many ways. Aramide told me how she has always wanted to let me into her life during our school days but couldn’t because she had promised herself to remain a virgin till her wedding night, as that is the best gift she could give to her husband. Hearing her side of her story, I promised myself I would help make her dreams come true because I really loved her.

The night before our NYSC programme was over I and some of my friends had a get-together party and there and then, I proposed to my beloved girlfriend Aramide and she said yes. We travelled together to Lagos to present the good news to our families of our intention to get married soon and both families supported our union. On the 4th of August 2012, I got married to my beloved wife. At first, it was sweet but as years rolled by without kids, we both became worried and trust my mother; she made it a big issue because I’m her only son.

Four years gone and we are yet to conceive, although we have sought medical attention and we found out that my wife has.........

Celebrities / Fabmumng August Cover Star- Kelechi Morah Aka Kelechik by kunlebeat: 1:20pm On Aug 04, 2017
Fabmumng August Cover, Kelechik Morah

Witty, fabulous and engaging are just a few words that best describe our August Cover Personality, Kelechi Morah. Popularly known, as Kelechik on Instagram, this mum-of-one is an interviewer’s delight. In this chat with the FABMUMNG team, Kelechik proves that she is more than just a pretty face. Please read and be inspired.

Kindly tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a wife, mother and an entrepreneur. I am in my early 30s (shhhh I hope I still look 16; I am getting old) I have lived most of my life in Lagos although I was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. I attended Command Secondary School and the University of Lagos where I graduated in 2007 with a 2.1 in History and Strategic studies. I worked for a bit, before I was posted to Abuja for my NYSC in 2008. I have gone on to bag two masters degree from the same university. Yes, I have been told I love book too much lol ). I was in the early stages of starting a PhD when I got pregnant and decided to start a family instead. Hopefully, I would complete my PHD soon. That’s basically all about me in a nutshell.

What do you do for a living?

I am first a housewife (yes that’s work too) but on a serious note, I am a career woman, a fashion entrepreneur and a brand influencer. I recently launched my Ready-to-wear, label called Zuriel Afrique. We focus on easy breezy chic pieces for the every day woman.

Please take us through an average day in your life?

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is pray with my family. Since my son hasn’t started school yet and he isn’t in crèche, he is with me all the time. Amazingly, I don’t have a house-help so I am on my own. This means that I have to get breakfast ready for the family, get my son ready to go out with me and then afterwards, I follow up with the business of the day. If he were going to be a bother at my meetings, his dad would have to step in and look after him for some time. We have an arrangement that works for us at the moment. My business of the day could be meetings with prospective clients, speaking engagements, photo shoots or fabric sourcing for my brand as well as following up with my workers.

You are a wife, mother and a fabmumpreneur. How do you juggle these three roles almost seamlessly?

It is not easy… It’s real work. But when you have a supportive partner and God by your side it would be less stressful.............

FABMUMPRENEUR SERIES: Mmachukwu Omonode of Somma’s Yummies

Mmachukwu Omonode founder of Somma’s Yummies

We are excited to be kicking off the Fabmumpreneur series with the beautiful Mmachukwu Omonode. She is a Baby Food Entrepreneur, Child Nutrition Advisor, aspiring Public Health Specialist, Child Care Blogger and a prolific health writer. She is also the CEO of Mahauty Health Solutions and Founder of Somma’s Yummies-a range of high-energy nutritious baby food products. In this interview, she tells us the story behind Somma’s Yummies as well as her entrepreneurial journey. Somewhere in this article is a freebie from this mumtrionist to our fabulous readers.

Can you please tell us the inspiration behind your Somma’s Yummies?

I have a cute daughter named Somma Marmara Omonode who I exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of her life. When it was time to start her on solid foods, I didn’t like the idea of feeding her commercially made cereals full of preservatives and artificial ingredients. I wanted to feed her healthy, wholesome and nutritious meals that are savoury as well. I couldn’t find any baby food brand that met this need on the shelf of any of any Nigerian market and supermarket. So, I started researching, experimenting and developing recipes with locally available staples. Overtime, I came up with mind-blowing recipes that will satisfy her stomach, appeal to her taste bud but also meet her daily nutrient requirements.

Practical Tips for a Flatter Belly – How to deal with the ‘Mummy Pouch’

By Mosope Idowu

The biggest complaint that most women have is about belly fat – often referred to that the “mummy pouch”. While some women are naturally blessed with flat bellies and seem to have no problem with the “snap back” after baring children, the vast majority of us actually have to do some work in order to achieve and/or maintain a flat belly.

Now before we go any further let me address the fact that growing and birthing a child is no walk in park and it does change our bodies. Looking back at old photos of yourself before you had kids and wishing for that same body again could be a sure way to set yourself up for disappointment. I am in the best shape of my life- in my thirties, after 2 children -but my skin is not quite what it used to be – I have stretchmarks and lose skin – and it’s OK!As mums it’s important for us to be REALISTIC with our goals. Expecting to have chiseled abs like those we see on social media and in magazines is not a bad thing, but it may not be realistic. On the other hand, constantly obsessing over belly fat will not make it go away either. Many have turned to drinking flat tummy teas”, wearing waist trainers and even starvation as a means of losing belly fat – but still don’t see results.The truth of the matter is that the best way to deal with the unwanted “mummy pouch” is cultivate habits that are HEALTHY, PRACTICAL AND SUSTAINABLE for our busy lives as, mothers, wives, employers, business owners etc. Weather you have just recently had a baby, or you have been struggling with the ‘mummy pouch” for several years, here are some practical tips that can help you achieve a flatter belly;
Clean up Your Diet – It’s true what they say, “Abs are made in the kitchen” – so this is be best place to start! Eating poorly results in weight gain, bloating, and excess water retention – all of which contribute to an increased waistline.

Practical ways to clean up your diet include;
Trading processed carbs like white rice and white bread for their whole wheat versions.
Eating plenty of lean protein – such as skinless chicken or turkey, fish, eggs, beans & lentils, nuts and seeds.
Consuming healthy fats like avocados, nuts and fish.
Avoiding high sugar foods
Watching salt intake

Reduce Your Portions – The reality is that most of us eat much more food than we need and it slows down or impedes progress. Even if what you are eating is healthy you still need to manage your portions because too much “healthy” food is still too much food and will not help you towards achieving your goals.

Some practical ways to do this are;
Use a smaller plate – this will help train you to eat less
Use this as a general guide for what your plate should look like ¼ Carbs, ¼ protein, ½ vegetables.
Don’t go back for seconds! Drink some water first and wait a little while, you’ll likely find that you aren’t actually hungry – probably just bored!

Do Cardio – Cardio burns calories; calories burning equal fat burning, so doing cardio is essential to ensuring that the extra pounds and inches are falling off. Try to incorporate ~ 30 minutes of cardio a day into your routine.

Good cardio options include;
Brisk walking/jogging/running
Cycling or swimming
Skipping of climbing the stairs
HIIT (High intensity interval training)

Strength Train – You need to build muscle to increase your fat burning ability. So strength training is very important. You don’t have to lift heavy weights or even enter a gym in order to get the benefits of strength training, but you do need to add sufficient resistance to achieve desirable results.

Some easy ways to add resistance are;
Holding weights while you do exercises like squats and lunges
Using resistance bands
Increasing the amount of time you hold a certain exercise for
Increasing the number of repetitions you do of a certain exercise

Manage Stress – This one is not so simple, but could be the most important factor affecting your health. The truth is that as mums we have to deal with varying levels of stress daily. Stress causes an increase in stress hormone “cortisol “ in the body which causes fat to store in areas that are more susceptible – like the belly. Another side effect of not managing your stress is that you could get overwhelmed or fall into depression and these could cause you to either overeat or stop eating all together – both of which are not good for your health.

Some practical ways to manage stress include;
Daily Prayer & medication
Regular (scheduled) de-stress and self-care time
Exercising
Journaling

and most importantly…
ASKING FOR HELP
