The resurgence of the Kenyan textile industry has already attracted new foreign investments. Several top global fashion brands have recently signed production contracts with local textile manufacturers in Kenya. Calvin Klein, Arrow, Izod and Cherokee are among the international labels that have signed with Kenya-based firms, according to officials of the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA). Other brands including Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) started local production in 2014 at Ashton Apparel. Kenya is the second largest producer of garments after Ethiopia according to McKinsey&Co http://www.mckinsey.com/industries/retail/our-insights/east-africa-the-next-hub-for-apparel-sourcingPictures of EPZ industry, Athi River

Unlike Kenya which exports indurstrial products to Tanzania, Tanzania exports to Kenya are mainly unprocessed farm products like vegetables, cereals.... But what worries President Magufuli more is the balance of trade between the two countries, which stood at Sh22 billion at the end of last year in favour of Kenya. In 2016, Kenya exported goods worth Sh34.8 billion to her neighbour while it imported Sh12.8 billion worth of vegetables and such products

Obi1kenobi: I'm not sure how you guys can rehash the same lines over and over again for over 2,000 pages of this thread, and you're still back at the starting point with no resolution in sight. How on earth are you not bored and exhausted?
Let me save you all the trouble: Nigeria is a far bigger economy than Kenya. But Nigeria is also far more populated than Kenya which somewhat renders that difference meaningless. A German has nothing to brag about over a Norwegian or Swiss, just because his country is bigger - neither would any Japanese, South Korean or Taiwanese swap their countries for China. Hence why Taiwan (who are ethnic Han Chinese) have resisted China's attempts to annex it and why Hong Kong has never wanted anything to do with China. Standard of living is higher in Kenya with lower income inequality and lower instances of extreme poverty. It's a more sophisticated economy which captures more citizens in tax collection and generates comparatively high revenue to fund its comparatively high budget. This difference is further exacerbated by the fact Nigeria is the most corrupt nation on the planet (I don't give a shiit what Transparency International says: it's impossible for any country to be more corrupt than Nigeria). If you isolated the core North of Nigeria as a country on its own, it would be the poorest country on the planet bar none. Failed states like Somalia are better off than Nigeria's North East or North West. The more progressive South of the country is saddled with this millstone around our necks and can't make progress while catering to these liabilities. This presents an interesting dilemma in the fact that Nigerians celebrate our massive size (I'm yet to see how that is an asset), even though that massive size is largely contributory to how unwieldy and dysfunctional we are.
Kenya is a more developed country than Nigeria. Some newly wed honeymooning couple from Stockholm or business executive and his family from New York go to Kenya to relax and flex on vacation because it is more developed than Nigeria. Accept it and seek better governance to progress as they have without "oyel" money. And for goodness sakes, shut this damn thread. I try to avoid it, but every day, it's spamming the Politics section front page. You have brains, kudos!! |

Overall, the $25.5 billion worth LAPSSET project includes a new port with 32 berths, new roads, a 1,500km railway line and a pipeline ....According to the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (Lapsset) Corridor Development Authority director general Sylvester Kasuku, the dredging work on the project is well underway. “The construction of the entire port project is at 42% with the first berth out of three in Phase 1 expected to be completed in June 2018,” said Sylvester Kasuku.
Once completed, the new Lamu Port will be able to handle the largest ships in the world with its 500m wide channel and depth of over 18 meters. The port of Durban has a 220m wide channel with a depth of 16 meters....the laziest people are telling us their new u/c 13berth port will be the largest in Africa, ignorance of the highest level

The historic Makupa Causeway that links Mombasa Island to the Kenyan mainland will be demolished and a bridge built in its place, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said Thursday. The causeway between Tudor and Port Reitz creeks was built in 1920s with environmental surveys showing it has had a negative impact on marine life at both creeks.

NairobiWalker: I've been telling them this since time immemorial. Kenya's GDP is a mere $88 billion yet our budget is $30 billion. The budget to GDP ratios of most countries range between 20% to 40%. In Nigeria, they claim their GDP is as high as over $500 billion yet their budget is a mere $27 billion. A country of $500 billion GDP should have a minimum budget of $100 billion and a healthy budget of about $180 billion. Sure all indications proves that GDP is definitely a fake... |
