Politics › APC To Voters: Ignore IGP On Voting Directives by kurt09(op): 10:37pm On Mar 20, 2015
The All Progressives
Congress (APC) has told voters to ignore the order of the Inspector- General of Police, Suleiman Abba that they go home after
casting their ballots
during the forthcoming
elections.
The party in a
statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity
Secretary, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed said the
electorate should
rather listen to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru
Jega, who said the
electoral law does not state anywhere that voters cannot or should not wait to watch and ensure that their votes are counted. The party therefore
urged the electorate to make sure they stayed behind to protect their votes after casting their
ballots, as was the case in 2011.
APC said contrary to
the suspicious directive by the IGP, INEC encourages voters to stay behind and watch their votes counted,
saying the law expects such voters to stay behind but to conduct themselves in an orderly manner.
”According to Jega, who appeared on Channels TV on Friday morning, the electoral law says anyone that has no business with the electoral process at the polling booths but desires to monitor events should stay at least some metres away from the polling agents and completely away from the ballot
box after casting their votes. ”The INEC Chairman further clarified that all registered voters have businesses with the process and can
therefore not be classified as people that don’t have businesses at polling units.
”Therefore, the IGP has no constitutional right or powers under the constitution or Police
Act to rewrite the
electoral law. The role of the police is to maintain law and order or such other assistance as may be sought from
the police by INEC,” the party said.
It also called on
Nigerians to ignore the so-called public service announcement
concerning the show of force by government
security agencies,
saying it is part of
efforts to intimidate the electorate and pave the way for the PDP to rig the elections.
APC also asked
Nigerians to ignore the SMS being sent around by the agents of the
PDP, asking them to
send their names and the last five digits of their VIN (Voter Identification Number) to certain numbers.
”These and other
messages are being
sent out by the PDP to steal people’s PVCs, intimidate voters and manipulate the
elections. Nigerians
should never allow that to happen,” the party said. www.newtelegraphonline.com/apc-to-voters-ignore-igp-on-voting-directives/

Politics › Lagos State House Of Assembly Grant Themselves Lifetime Benefits. by kurt09(op): 6:11pm On Mar 05, 2015
SaharaReporters has
learned about a bill
recently introduced inthe Lagos State House
of Assembly to
approve luxurious lifelong benefits to the legislative body’s
speaker and deputy
speaker. The bill proposes to
grant the two officials, who are members of the All Progressives
Congress (APC),
pensions that amount to 100 percent of their
annual basic salary forlife , after their tenure as leaders in the state assembly expires. The bill also proposes
such additional benefits as a free house anywhere in Lagos State and a free vehicle paid for from state funds. In a move that two APC
insiders criticized for
being corrupt and
selfish, the two
legislative officials are also meant to receive unlimited allowance for
furnishing their free
homes, security
personnel for life, and free medical treatment
for the officials and their families for life.
Other obscene benefits include additional
allowances for housing
maintenance, vehicle
maintenance, and entertainment—each category calculated at
10 percent of the
officials’ base salary.
The officials’ utility
allowance is at 20 percent of their base
salary. In addition, the bill stipulates that the state governor and
deputy governor as
well as their families
would receive free medical treatment for life. All designated
members of the state leadership would have
pensionable drivers for life as well. The scandalous bill is
cited as “the Public
Office Holder (Payment
of Pension) Law 2007 (Amendment) Law 2015.” “This bill is a slap on the
faces of the hapless
residents of Lagos
State who pay through their noses for amenities that are mostly inadequate or
absent,” said a critic of the bill, an APC member. He added, “This is a senseless war by some
decadent APC leaders against the public interest.” A member of the state
assembly, who said he found the bill shocking, said the proposed bill was introduced at a
time Nigeria’s public attention was focused squarely on national elections, the counterinsurgency
against Boko Haram in the north.

Politics › Re: APC Raises Alarm Over Withdrawal Of Customs, Immigration Personnel From Border by kurt09(m): 3:27pm On Feb 16, 2015
I don't believe this. A man termed clueless can't give this order
Anasko:
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over a strange directive ordering the withdrawal of Customs, Immigration and other security personnel from the country’s border posts in Kebbi and Katsina States, wondering what purpose such a directive was meant to serve.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the verbal directive led to the total withdrawal of the stated personnel from the border posts in the two states, leaving the posts unmanned.
It wondered who gave the order and for what purpose, and asked the Federal Government to immediately tell Nigerians what happened.
”It will not be enough for the government to tell Nigerians that it is not aware of such a development, because that will be more egregious than what happened in the first instance, and will amount to the government not being able to secure the country’s borders.
”It is also necessary to tell Nigerians how many states were affected by such orders. We were only made aware of two, but there is the possibility that the directive could have been more widespread,” APC said.
The party said with no one left to man the borders in the affected areas for as long as the directive lasted, which is yet to be determined, anything could have happened.
”Who gave the verbal order? Was the order given verbally so that there will be no evidence of it? Were the Customs, Immigration and other security personnel ordered away to allow the free entry of contraband goods, election materials, weapons, terrorists or what?
”Even with our borders manned, Boko Haram terrorists have been marauding freely along the border areas. Will this illegal order not worsen the security situation, at a time the government is giving Nigerians the assurance that it will deal Boko Haram a mortal blow within six weeks?” it queried.
APC said the development, coming a day after leaflets were distributed in Gombe asking people to stay away from polling booths on election days, raises more fears over the ongoing scheming by the Jonathan Administration and the PDP to ensure the rescheduled elections do not hold.
”In pursuit of this objective, these band of desperate people will do anything, including threatening the very existence of the country. Nigerians must not allow them,” the party said.
