I'm a commercial bus driver that lives in a neighborhood/community like everyone of us here. In this our community, we have food sellers, drinks sellers, beverage sellers and any other family commodities sellers you can think of.
Like for example, in my street where I live I have mama Shukura that sells amala. Mama Chi Chi that sells Igbo foods, aboki that sells all kind of chewables e.t.c.
All these people knows me and some other people on the streets who always patronizes them. I have never gone to buy anything from any of them without paying.
It's maybe sometime I may not have cash and I will buy on credit to pay later which I always pay not more than a day later.

Even the last commodity as pure water #50, you'll have to pay if not they will start telling that's their profit o.
Ok, now as bus driver that I'm and well known in the street. Most of this same people at one time or the other board my bus to their destinations without paying. And the least amount of this destinations is #200 and it stretch to 1k maximum.
Once you collect money from them, you become bad person and they tagged you as being wicked in the streets.
Honestly I don't collect money from anyone that knows me either on my street or anywhere, and I must know the person too o.

So ystday, Mama Chi Chi that sells her plate of swallow #1,200 which was #700 just a month ago, entered my bus from Agbara to CMS which was worth #1,300. She entered without greeting me or exchanging pleasantries like many used to do. I saw her too but kept quiet, normally if I know you and we meet each other, wether you're my senior or junior I always greet first. But that ystday I was on a paranoid mode cuz of the prize I bought fuel.
To cut story short, my conductor started collecting money and when it gets to her turn she told my conductor to wait that the money is far away in her pocket and don't have the chance to bring it out.
Along the way again my conductor asked and she said the same thing. So my conductor left her alone till when she was about to alight.
As she alighted my conductor said madam wey your money, that was when she came to the front side and said "papa jnr" good morning o, how is work?
I responded fine and said work is fine.
My conductor asked me if I know her, I said yes but collect your money. She was shocked on hearing that from me.
And she said ah! Papa jnr na me Mama Chi Chi o, I said yes I know it's you but pls fuel is now costly and this is my first trip so I need you to pay that money.

She reluctantly with anger paid the money and walked away. Me no kukuma send her, I just continued my work. After all I no dey her money for her restaurant nor ever borrowed money from her. When I closed in the evening and got home, I passed by her shop and greeted her but she refused to respond. Thinking she didn't hear me, I got closer and greeted her again. That was when she let out a scream "that why am I greeting her, that I have the guts to collect money from her when she boarded my bus".
I tried to explain but she was hearing none of it and was already creating a scene.
I just have to walk away without saying anything. While I was going, I was hearing her on top of her voice explaining to neighbors how I collected money from her when she boarded my bus, that she sometimes gives me food on credit and all that. Thereby painting me bad in the street.
Though some later came to me to say I shouldn't mind whatever she's saying. But what of the people she might have sold bad seed of me in their heart.
Me I wasn't bothered sha, that is her and the people's cup of tea.
Tmrw or any other day, I will still go to her shop and buy food but, if she refused selling to me, I will stop abruptly and mind my own business.
