In reference to Seal, DavidDylan, I doubt Seal started out his life as a multimillionaire singer. I'm not sure of the origin of his scars, but if he got them before his career, then that's even more of a reason for people to not complain. We live in a world, and age, where people understand that others can contribute regardless of what's on their face, what's in their hearts, or what they look like. I don't mean to be rude, but if you have tribal marks, then I'm sorry, but it's too late for you. If you do not like them, then just don't give your children tribal marks, that is, if you intend on having children. It's really that simple. If you don't have tribal marks and you don't like the practice, then just take the initiative to help educate others about modernization and necessity. It's really that simple.

No offense meant to anyone.
Seal's marks were from an autoimmune disease and they appeared when he was in his early 20's and unknown but it never stopped him from building a music career.

going by nairaland one would think tribal marks are as common as garri, in the western part of Nigeria.

Never mind the fact that I DO NOT know anyone among my dad's contemporaries who has tribal marks. In spite of the fact that most of them had parents who werent educated.

But thanks to nairaland, I now know tribal marks are the norm among the Yoruba, and Yorubas without tribal marks are extremely rare. They're the exception and they're viewed as being abnormal.

when I was younger, I had one teacher with tribal marks. She was also happily married to a rich guy, by the way. Since then, I've seen people with tribal marks here and there (maybe up to 8 over the past 16 years), but never as commonly as one would think going by nairaland. I don't know sha, there may be people who only meet tribally marked Yorubas- it depends I guess.

@ OP: post a picture of your tribal marks, if you can get one on the web.
If it was such that a state placed a ban on it and proposed punishment for parents who do it to their kids.It must not be that rare.

NYSCRe: Should Female Corpers Be Banned From Serving In Banks? by Kweenisha(op): 2:18am On Dec 06, 2008
lawyer:
I did my Nysc some years back in Oyo state and during the 3 weeks  camp period, i realised that most of the girls themselves actually wanted to be posted to Ibadan town to work in main stream banks during their youth service year. You could see chicks with HND yoruba and Islamic studies jostling to jack GMAT exams so as to be called for an interview in a bank. Some of them were already trying to befriend the bankers who came to scout for potential corpers for the bank so as to just get a call up letter posting them to a bank.

At first, it seemed okay that they needed the bank jobs for their corper financial security but it later dawned on me that they cherished the marketing priviledges and perks that come with it. No body forced them and despite the hidden rumours in camp that working for a bank could be extremely stressful for corper women, they werent bothered.

i remember these 3 beautiful chicks that were posted out of Ibadan to a remote town Igbo-ara in Oyo State. They complained profusely about their posting and some way managed to come to ibadan to change their primary assignment location. These chicks were friends of a colleague in law school who was also serving with me. Immediately they highlighted from the bus, one of them was whispering that she had gotten the contact with one of the branch managers in Unity Bank in Dugbe and urged the other 2 to follow her. Later in the night, they came back to my friend's crib to spend the night, i saw 2 them dressing up in a very lascivious manner. Obviously i thought they were going for a party but one of the girls was just in a regular jeans frowning. My friend asked her whats up and she refused to tell him.

A car later drove into the house and picked the 2 chicks while the other one stayed alone in another room till the next morning. The following day, those 2 girls came back and were boasting that they wouldnt have to go back to igbo ara because apparently the branch manager had given them notes to the state coordinator that they were to resume in Unity bank after 3 weeks.

What made that single chick angry was that she later confided in my friend that their previous outting that day led to the branch manager inviting them for a sexual romp in a popular hotel in Ibadan with some of his friends and if they wanted the job, they would acceed to their requests and if they didnt, well, nothing fruitful will come out for the defaulting party. She stated that her friends tried to coerce her to go with them and since they werent indigenes of the town, they will need that extra security and financial gain to survive that corps year.

She bluntly refused and for her punishment, the 2 girls refused to chip in a good word for her and she ultimately had to return to Igbo ara to finish her service while the 2 girls stayed in Ibadan and worked with Unity bank despite the fact that they werent qualified to become bankers or were really any good as marketers.

The point i am driving at here is that despite what the local govt chairman said in respect of banning corper women from serving in banks, most chicks will go the extra mile to force themselves into banks either for sexual, financial or security gains. That L.G chairman is a lone wolf in the jungle and so many girls right now, will be scoffing at his statements and probably hating me for revealing such a damning fact!
I can bet you there are girls out there who have done the exact same thing to get jobs at NEPA and water works sef.
Should women be banned from the workforce or should there be laws in place to protect them from exploitation?

Practical nonsense!

I served close to the North, no amount of education or religion can eradicate the nonsense piled up into those nuisances in the north. The same education that has been there over the years, what changes has it made to them? The north are stereotyped into thinking unilaterally. At the least provocation, they are ready to pick their dagger and off they go.

E.g: The most popular car brand of car in the north is the Honda. Even with the vast diversities of cars and knowledge as to how one brand of car differs from another, they are stereotyped into thinking if it is not Honda, they do not have a car yet. With such a stereotype, pray tell me what education or religion in the next ten years can wipe it out of them?
Anyone with a bit of common sense knows that the highlighted part is the main meat of the above post .The example is just what it is,an example.

LG Boss Wants Female Corpers Banned From Serving In Banks

Written by Tony Edike
Friday, December 5, 2008

ENUGU—CHAIRMAN of Awgu Local Government area of Enugu State, Chief Uche Anioke has advocated the ban of female participants in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme from carrying out their primary assignments in banks.

He said that some financial institutions in the country have turned such ladies into “banking prostitutes and cheap labour” even as they are given unrealistic targets that expose them to danger.

Anioke, a former commissioner for youth and sports in the state and NYSC member during the 1984/85 session in Oyo State, regretted that the nation’s commercial banks, especially the new generation ones among them now turns female youth corps members posted to them into “banking prostitutes” saying the ugly development has defeated the objective for which the scheme was established.

He recalled that the NYSC scheme was established by decree No 24 of 22nd May, 1973 by the then General Yakubu Gowon Regime with the objective of inculcating discipline in Nigerian youths by instilling in them a traditional industry at work and of patriotic and loyal service to Nigeria in any situation they may find themselves.

The council boss who spoke with reporters during a welcome party organized by the Local Government for the batch C 2008 corps members posted to the state, frowned at a situation where some banks would pick a female corps member and sent her out for marketing after setting a target of over N20milion for her.

Such actions of the nation’s financial institutions, he noted, has negated the objective of the NYSC, adding that “I don’t think the scheme was set up to serve private organizations, it was established to serve the Nigerian public.

Sisi Kweenisha, you can read. The Bible is Taurah, Sabur (Both the christians consider as OT), and the Gospel, post gospel starting from acts (both the Christians consider as NT). Now watch this; Jesus said that he did not come to "abolish the Laws and the prophets. But to fulfil them." That is making them valid by his rubberstamping them for future generations to come. And because of this rubberstamping, he emphasised by further stating that "whosoever (among people after me, or during my lifetime) do abolish them or encourage any to do so, (such a person and his follower) shall be the least (not the highest) in the Kingdom of God!"

Please know that God will punish in the day of Judgement, if you believe in Judgement day. Hence Paradise is the Highest of his Kingdom for human. Hell is the least in His Kingdom for human.

If Jesus was this careful to honor those Prophets before him, and Christians even call him son of "David, (the King David who killed Goliat, the giant warrior)," then at the same time accused the same David as an adulterer and a cold blooded killer, please know that all that we can conclude is this; either the Christians are disoriented in thoughts, or they just refuse to follow Jesus' instructions. Yet they claim that he is their god. And when you disobey your god, you truly don't pass as a true believer in that god. Or at least you don't have any knowledge of the law that you disobey him on. Either way, if we look again, we see that the Bible accuse Noah, Abraham, Lut, Isaac or Jacob with sexual impropriety, because they slept with some women who were not their wives. Some were harlots, at least one is a slave/servant girl, them others were their own daughters who got them drunk (I wonder where they got wine, just in a nick og time, at the crucial moment?), some male or sons, some a wife of subject, who was hurriedly thereafter sent to war so that he can die!

If you still don't believe that this is from your bible, then read the OT again. I am sure you will disregard it, of handedly, because Jesus' already by Paul's statement has made the laws useless, because they and the prophets were nailed to the cross!

If you believe that Jesus statement about the laws and the prophets are still valid, then, it is either that what these prophets did, when it comes to sleeping with those people I had mentioned above, are still valid, or that the actions of these men are wrongly recorded in the Bible. For example, will King David knowingly seek the wife of another, when women were throwing themselves at him, and he restrained himself? He was a king of modest means compared to Solomon. David's voice was beloved to his Creator. Wouldn't he be protected by his Creator who loved him so much from all kind of filths, including adultery? Abraham is known as friend of God. What less should a friend do for another friend, except to protect him from evil? God is th only One who could protect any and all from evil. Would it be impossible that Abraham did not commit a sexual act with a woman he did not married? If both of my statements are correct then, we are certain more than uncertain that the recorded stories in the Bible about these noble men are at least incorrect about their sexual history.

If I am incorrect, then we should ask, when did the punishment by stoning became a law among the nations of the Children of Israel, regarding adultery? I used Abraham's condition to illustrate the pre-Moses' OT era, while David for the era after Moses.  If Jesus was extracating the "adulteress woman" by his famous "throw the first stone," statement, we know that King David's era was before Jesus. David must have been under the condition of that sexual law. Or did the children of Israel feared his royalty and could not confront him, too? But wait, God would not be afraid of him. And I remember somebody (maybe Pilgrim1), said in the past that even God was "trying (trying?)" to kill Moses, whom He ha sent an errant. Yet he had not completed his mission. (How could you send somebody to deliver a message and you waylay him so that you can make it impossible for your own message to be delivered?).  The same God would have instituted a plan so that David could be stoned to death.

In view of the above, it is very clear to me that the Christians need to reexamine their Bible. If you don't follow the OT, then take it off. If there is a claim that the NT abrogates it, then I need explanation of the Jesus' "I do not come to abrogate the laws and the prophets, "!
In all your verbosity, you are yet to give me a single verse of the scripture that condones fornication and adultery.
Have you forgotten that was your claim, that Christianity allows looseness, remember?
I gave you a challenge to quote that scripture and you are paddling in circles

Kweenisha, while the legislations of Islam was being carried out, many things now prohibited were permissable at one point or the other. First, even now, if an Igbo man becomes a muslim, I will not discourage him to stop wearing his wrapper. It happens to be Islamic. We call it Izar. I wear them, too. Yet, I will not tell him before he becomes a muslim not to be involved in his libation or drinking his Ogogoro/apeteshi. Please note that I am using a culture that you are familiar with. I could use Yoruba, but it will be not as intimate as Igbo to you.

While I will not allow him to take the declaration if I dictect the smell of palm wine in his breath, I will only encourage him to come to congregational prayers as often as he can. And cultivate new friends, who are muslims. In time we will begin to leave his Igbo culture parts that are unacceptable to Islam. This is the case with the ahadiths that you have quoted above. Before I talk about this ahadith, pay attention to the honesty of Islam. All events that occurred, even if they were abrogated, are still left in recorded history for later generations. Just imagine a tribe somewhee in the jungle who are fighting each other. Then one of them became muslim, and got hold of ahadith. As they read about earlier Islamic life, they may participate in this act, instead of killing the people, as they used to do.

They would have done a good act, because they now preserve lives. When they understand Islam better and become cultured people, full of piety, they will know that there is abrogation of "temporary marriage, or sex outside marriage."

Now to the ahadith: Allah commands muslims not to go "near" illicit sex. Further He commands by verse 25 of surah Nisaa, that even slave girl should be married in order to avoid any sexual illegality. Muhammad (AS), who is the prophet and messenger that knows the meaning of Qur'aan more than any human declares all kind of Muta; both that of home and journey illegal and not allowed. What then you do not understand?

Is it impossible for you to process the fact that "rome was not built in a day," hence the laws in Islam, like all its tenets came in piecemeal? In Makka, Muhammad (AS) and his companion used to pray. Then in Makka, the manners of prayer and how many prayers per day were given, including in the event of Isra wa Miraj (the Night journey to heaven).

Yet, in all of these, it was until they arrived in Madina that daily salah was made obligatory on them. Then later Fasting was made obligatory. Drinking was cancelled in statges until completely. Now apply the same system to "sex with captive women." Considering that these women, and girls probably would have lost eligible men and their husbands from their tribes because of the wars, should they also be deprieved of womanly need, too? doesit make any sense for a 30 year old woman who is a slave be deprieved of what they crave, like a thirsty person craves cold drink to quench the thirst?

Would captive of war stop having sexual urge, because of their status in the society? Would slave suddenly becomes a person who can feel any biological stimulus, like hunger, thirst, sexuality, etc? Have you forgotten the experience of White women towards their families' black male slaves? If these white women lust after them, and find ways of putting themselves under these men, can you imagine how previleged a captive women in the "early Islamic era" was that she was not "killed," or "raped" by these civilized men? Even in recent human history, American aristocrats, like Jefferson, even Washington, they all had their 'secret flings with black women.' You remember the late old as dirt "Thurmond", the senator from south carolina? Even as he fought against integration, he secretly had sex and fathered a "black daughter!" The early muslims did not do that!

Now Kweenisha, let just imagine that there is a war, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places. These people lost the war. Obviously, there will be a lot of men killed, while the ratio of woman/men will now increase, significantly. You see how readily the women of Iraq marry American, etc men? You see that prostitution isnow common, which was at least under wrap, before?

Just imagine, if the igbos were to defeat the Yorubas. Would igbo men leave the yoruba women alone to rot without husband and oh, sex? Remember that you are christian, and for the most part, you have indicated that igbo people prided themselves in good quality. PLease tell me, the Igbo men will be blind, because of their Christianity wo the beautiful Iyabos, Shalewas, Abekes, etc, even Tpias and KarmoMods and Pilgrim1s? If you say yes, you do not know about igbo men. I mean it, in the religious and not the tribal sense. Nothing in the Bible will make them not refer to the OT when they see yoruba pretty women.

If its Islam, of today, all the marriage age women who desired to be married will be married. There will not be a single women, within sharia guideline that will be left to "fornicate."
Is this an explanation to my claim that Islam allows men to sleep with women they are not married to i.e slave women under them married or single. I gave you several hadiths were Mohammed and his warriors slept with women captured at war and verses in the Koran were Allah says specifically that your wives and your slave girls are Ok to sleep with. This whole tale above doesn't deny that so who is the loose one sexually based on the teachings of their holy book?
You are sir.
There is a big difference between a woman one is married to and a slave girl and the Koran makes that dsictinction.See one of the verses again.
allah even makes a decree of it

FROM THE QURAN - 4:24

"And all married women are forbidden unto you save those captives whom your right hand possess. It is a decree of Allah for you. (Muhammad
Pickthall's English translation of the Quran).

By the way, I asked you if Muhammad (AS) slept with anyonewho he was not married to; slave or otherwise?
A big YES

Mohammed allowed his companions to sleep with slave girls captured in war and he did it himself including a woman whose husband and father he had just murdered.Don't tell me there's any woman anywhere on earth that would  fall in love and marry the killer of her husband  and father a couple of hours later and sleep with them. It's either the woman was insane or she was forced.Don't give me that politically correct Islam.

You started off about to admit to the truth that you know and ended up with a lie.
The early Muslims not only slept with the slave girls,Allah himself decreed it was OK.
Why are we arguing?

The very statement of Jesus that brought the OT as relevance is an endictment and a proof. Did Jesus abrogate the OT? No. Did he say that anyone can? No. Did he talk about the great qualities of the laws and the prophets? Yes. You you christians lump this prophets as illigal sexual perveyors? Yes. Therefore illicit sex is acceptable, and was not cancelled, because Noah did it. Abraham did it. Lot did it. Isaac, or Jacob did it. Some other guys spilled their seeds so that their late brother's wife would not have a child for the dead brother! Terrible culture, if you ask me. How do you get somebody pregnant and they assign the baby to somebody else?
If this is an attempt to paint Christianity with the same brush as Islam, you are failing woefully.
I gave you a verse where allah decreed you could sleep with your house girls.

Again I ask you, show me a verse in the Bible one in the OT and another specifically after the coming of my Lord and saviour Jesus that condones sex outside of marriage

They'll probably need an income etc which you don't have. They may need a letter from your host saying that they're housing you and taking care of you.I'll advice that you go to a health center that caters to mainly low income Hispanic immigrants which every large city has.
The visits may just cost $20 or less if you qualify and they usually have programs where uninsured pregnant women can apply for medicaid that'll cover just the birth of the baby
.
I know some specific hospitals in some places that I've lived in who have this sort of program.
email me on babyosisi@hotmail.com and I'll give you the names in case you have relatives there.

If you just plan on coming and being rushed to the emergency room at labour, note that the names of all foreigners who abscond without paying their bills are reported to immigration and you could never ever get a visa to re-enter.
