To sink a healthy and long lasting borehole anywhere in Nigeria, contact a qualified HYDRO-GEOPHYSICIST/GEOLOGIST. Prof. Meshida, an aouthority in the field of geoscience has said it all. |

Since the mischievous nature of ICSL has been identified, what is the way forward? We shouldn't just keep whining on their way of doing business but take action. Secondly, who will be on the fore front? The employment and economic situation of the country is too pathetic. The job seeker wants to take any offer available just to earn an income and have something to do. The employer wants to take advantage of the situation to get cheap labour. ICSL has decided to bridge the gap by bringing these two together. The sad thing is that it is the employee who pays the bill for everything since the fees for ICSL are being deducted from his salary. Instead of him to fight so that the employer pays ICSL for the services rendered, the employee prefers to go home with half the loaf of bread. Now who are we to blame? Is it the employer who is looking for cheap labour? Is it the guy/babe who has been at home for years and just wants to get an income at all cost no matter how small? Is it ICSL who has decided to PROVIDE SERVICE to these 2 categories of people at a cost irrespective of who is paying the fee and for how long? Just my opinion |

It's good to have this forum of geoscientists here. OP, you did a good thing. Having gone through 99% of posts, i observe that most of the focus is on the oil/gas industry (seismics, Petrophysics etc) but with little on near surface opportunities (Near surface seismics, geotechnical services, pollution investigation etc). I would suggest that while searching for the bug pay, if you have the opportunity of landing a job or internship with indigenous companies that are into near surface geology/geophysics, grab it. Your experience will start counting from there. I am a postgrad student of geophysics herein Naija but my 1st degree is in physics. I have coursemates who are into geotechnical services and are doing VERY WELL. Talking of petrel, well, i have 2009 and am willing to give anybody free of charge. It's 4 yrs old but you can still do your learning on it. If you can also download the free version of OpendTect, good for you. I am based in Lagos. Are you attending the upcoming NAPE ICE? It could be another opportunity for you to network with industry people |
Underdogg, i also use linkedin and all i can say is that the profile of those who interest you should be of paramount importance. If after adding/ accepting the connection of a stranger, you find out that they don't meet up with your career standards or expectations over a period of time, then feel free to cut them off. I do that often. Ignore the insults and stay focused. 1 LUV |
