So I figured a lot of people were clueless as to what’s really going on in the Nigerian economy. I mean its easier to blame someone when business isn’t “moving” or when there are layoffs at your workplace but how about we make informed decisions. When there’s an economic crisis, here’s what’s really happening… As we all know, Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa. Also, 90% of our revenue is from oil, in other news, we depend on oil revenue to a large extent to sustain our economy. Now here lies our dilemma, other nations have started to discover and produce oil in large quantities (this implies excess supply) and this means since oil is becoming less scarce and easily accessible, countries are importing (demanding) less of it and what does this imply? Eighty two workers of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, were yesterday sacked by the management of the state-owned institution. The development, Daily Sun gathered, was in line with government’s policy to restructure tertiary institutions in the state. It was also gathered that the affected workers were members of the non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the college. Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of the college, Segun Onifade, confirmed the development to newsmen in Osogbo yesterday. According to him, the sacked workers were contract staff. Onifade also disclosed that some of the sacked workers had spent six years before the authorities decided to relieve them of their jobs. Chairman of the college’s Governing Council, Niyi Akande, when contacted on phone, however, said he was not aware of the sack. He said: “I am not aware of that. I have not been told that anybody has been sacked. I am in Abuja.” |

Eniola and Tomiwa were the only ones that could make the Saturday date. They met his friends: Seun, Dan, Ben, Nelly and others. Other girls too were part of the group but they are girlfriends to the guys around excluding Akin and Nelly. “Boy, won’t you find yourself a girl now?” Dan asked. This suggested to Tomiwa and Eniola that he is not the girl type unlike his friends. On hearing that, Akin shot Enny a look but she didn’t look at him because she suspected he might do that. Later as they chatted on, the guys started leaving with their respective girl one after the other. Only Nelly, Tomiwa, Enny and Akin were seated at the table. “I’m so happy we made it” Akin said holding her tight “Thanks to God” she replied routinely. A part of her is still as confused as it used to be in her teenage years, watching Hindi movies.
