Anambra State capital is not pronounced Awka but Ọka in Igbo. Awka is a colonial etymology because the place and word existed before the colonialists arrived but is mispronounced.

How do you know what he pronounced by spelling? Have you seen any Igbo call the capital of Imo State, Owerri (Owerī)? It's always Owere hence you can't know by reading unless by speech.

Ibo is a colonialist pronunciation same with Owerri. The correct spelling and pronunciation are Igbo and Owere. While Owerri is forced to sound same as Owere, Ibo is different in sound and spelling.
