Hardware The phone comes with a 2250 mAh battery, which is slightly less than expected. I guess the rationale is that the 64-bit Cortex-A53 is more power efficient than the 32-bit Cortex-A7. Once you factor in a 5” 720p display, rather than a larger full HD display, then the battery should be OK. I tested the battery on moderate usage for the first 24hrs after purchasing the device and my verdict puts battery performance as quite impressive. The battery will last all day (from morning to evening) but it will be running out of juice when you go to bed. After receiving the phone from the courier in computer village at about 11:30am I fired the battery up to 100% charge and eventually got around 22 to 23 hours of battery life with around 4 and a half hours of screen on time. The HAMMER comes with 2GB of RAM, which is excellent for a phone in this price range. In terms of internal storage, the device comes with 16GB of flash and has a micro-SD card slot which can accept cards up to 64GB. Thankfully, unlike other MediaTek based devices, the internal storage isn’t divided up, you get access to the whole lot, which is around 12GB – once you leave space for the Android OS etc.

Display The 5 inch display on the HAMMER is very good considering, the price point of this device. It is a HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 by 720. That works out to 294 dpi. Overall the color reproduction is good and the definition is great, as are the viewing angles. Some people like full HD displays for 5 inch devices, however for a budget device, 720p is more than adequate. Performance At the heart of the HAMMER is the MediaTek MT6732. It has a quad-core Cortex-A53 based processor which is coupled with a Mali-T760 GPU and the performance is overall very impressive. During 2015 this kind of CPU/GPU combination will become the norm for low- and mid-range phones. The Cortex-A53 is ARM’s super power efficient variant from its first generation of 64-bit processors. The MT6732 uses four Cortex-A53 cores all clocked at 1.5GHz. It is generally thought that the MT6732 is 20% faster than MediaTek’s Octacore Cortex-A7 based processors, and with 30% less battery consumption. My experience of using the HAMMER is that the processor package is fast. The UI is smooth and rapid; in fact it offers the fastest UI that I have personally seen on a Chinese OEM phone. In terms of benchmarks, the HAMMER managed to chalk up a little over 31,800 score on the Antutu Benchmark. The score is pretty impressive and slightly above my wife’s Innjoo One 3G HD with a MT6592 Octacore processor with an Antutu Benchmark score of 31,134.

Specs In short, the UMi HAMMER is powered by a quad-core Cortex-A53 based processor, has a 5 inch, 720p display, and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Here are the full specs: Display 5” 720p HD IPS 720 x 1280 pixels Processor 1.5 GHz, quad-core MediaTek MTK6732, 64-bit, Cortex-A53 GPU ARM MALI-T760 RAM 2GB Storage 16GB, microSD card slot, up to 64GB Camera 13 Megapixel Rear Camera, 3.2MP Front Camera Battery 2250 mAh Connectivity GPS, microUSB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth Networks GSM, 3G, 4G LTE Software Android 4.4.4 with Google Play. (Hardware supports upgrade to Android 5.0). Dimensions 144 x 71.6 x 7.9 mm, 145g SIM slots Dual-SIM: 1 Mini SIM and 1 Micro SIM Design UMi promise the Hammer to be a durable, hard-hitting phone suitable for active people enjoying life. A strong alloy chassis forms the foundation of the device, while a “double glass” screens with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection keeps the display safe (there are videos online where the Hammer was used to smash open walnuts and also to drive nail into wood). These combinations give the device a premium look obtainable in flagship devices from Samsung and other A-list mobile device manufacturers. Currently the Hammer has Android 4.4.4 Kit-Kat out of the box which isn’t really optimized for a 64bit chipset. Hopefully UMi’s development team are working on an Android 5.0 Lollipop update which should eke out a little more performance, and bring with it all those lovely Lollipop transitions and animations (see http://umidigi.com/forums/topic/lollipop-for-umi-hammer/).

It is HAMMER time!!!! 64-bit processors are on the verge of becoming main-stream on Android devices, and the HAMMER is one of the first smartphones from an Asian OEM that uses such a processor. The HAMMER is Umi’s first ever 4G device and also their first release for 2015. It is a 5 inch device with a quad-core 64-bit Cortex-A53 based processor. See unboxing pictures below (pics were taken with my LG L90 phone)

Hi Mr. Elijahdre, we spoke this morning. My budget is 40k. kindly advise on the best device to go for amongst the ranges you've introduce us to over the months i.e. P6000, P3000s, K3 Note, F2, Vibe X. I am most particular about the following features; RAM (at least 2GB), ROM (at least 16GB), Gorilla Glass/tempered glass, HD display (at least 720p), 13MP Primary camera, 5MP Secondary, thickness of 8mm or less. DG900a or Umi Zero will have fit perfectly but the 45k and 49k price tags. You may wish to suggest any other devices I could consider that I have not already mentioned here. |
Choi!!! The prices don sky-rocket o!!!! ![]() Lastly, Please assist with current price for P3000s. Remember I mentioned what my budget is? I want to be able to make the best of the best choice coz I don't intend to buy another phone this year o. Thankz Boss. |
Oga Elijahdre, seems you are still on Easter holiday abi. Sent you an sms requesting for a quote for 3 devices i.e. Doogee DG900, Elephone P6000 and Umi Zero. No reply yet. |

aisha2:I kinda agree with aisha2 on this. But it doesn't mean the UK guy is the best option too. I don't subscribe to the idea of long distance relationships especially when marriage is being considered. Unless the guy is there for further studies and has plans of return to 9ja immediately after that (hopefully soon). If thats the case, then she should not even be gallivanting around with another guy in Nigeria. My advice to her is that she should be patient and try to find out what exactly these men want from her. Then try comparing that with what she is looking for in a man. But most importantly she should ask God for guidance. |
do your online research. Google search anything and any questions you crave answers for. The internet is an ocean of knowledge. Believe u me you can find and solve almost all problems that need solving online. All the best. |
@poster Thanks for your sample questions, although had only just finished it before I realised that there were no answers at the end . Well, kudos still |
@africhika Coz I fell in love with my girl doesn't mean that I prefer light complexioned girls. Infact I'm more attracted to darker skinned women . But I have always tried to observe people beyond outward appearances. I met her as a wonderful, sweet, easy going and humble fair complexion lady (and she is still great). My wakeup call came after I saw her pics from way back. That was when I realized to what extent she had gone with the use of whitening creams. I actually didn't know much about them until recently (i.e. when I decided to research into it online). I asked her to bring the ones she was using and the containers of the ones that had finished. They all had lightening or whitening cream written on them. She said they don't bleach but maintain skin colour (well, apparently not). So, to you observations (africhika and sunbarbie) about me checking out fairgirls, I believe she should be painting her face black or using charcoal powder to satisfy my colour preference ![]() P.S. I'm crazy about her way beyond her skin colour. I'm only worried about what these cream use can do to her health, help her to discontinue its usage and maybe this thread would also reachout to people facing similar difficulties. |
Thanks a million people. I sincerely appreciate all encouraging comments made by viewers of this thread especially the most recent ones from sunbarbie, toba, africhika and Rosabelle. I now believe it when they say a problem shared is a problem half solved (or how does it go again?) |
@Damoche I'm not suggesting anything but the evidence so far is crying "affair". Obviously, this her ex is just someone she hasn't been able to get over. Which is unfortunate considering that he is now married (or supposedly married). Frolicking with an ex is just not a healthy way to go in a relationship. And now that you are already doubting her faithfulness, it'll be hard for you to trust her in the future. No matter how open minded we ought to be and not suspect our partner's every step in a relationship, such coziness with exes should not be condoned. I would love to read how all these get played out at the end of the day. Best of luck. |
I'm astonished to what extent you ladies know how to care for the skin even all these scientific names of the skin nourising agent in certain products. @chaircover (interesting pseudoname )chaircover:Come to think of it, my girl loves wearing makeup. Like white powder over brown over foundation, eye pencil, maskara, kajal, etc. I guess I would suggest dat to her also. Thanks |
Thanks for breaking it all down ladies, my girl should meet you guys ![]() @oyinda
what do u mean by slightly creamy?
Was looking for a color to qualify her without saying 'yellow' coz she was not. |
@Ebonyeyes Thanks a lot. I'll definitely arrange a visit to a dermatologist. But I guess I can take up as her therapist after that (lol). |
Ebonyeyes:Its not only her skin its detroying, I guess her psyche, her health and self-esteem also. I feel so sad that there is nothing immediate I can do to help her. Someone once told me to threaten to breakup the relationship if she doesn't change her cosmetic line. I didn't use that approach. Instead, I decided change it for her. |
Hi Guys, This might not sound as a big issue but it seems like its getting out of hand. She is now 26 and I recently stumbled on a picture of her when she was 20. Believe you me, she was just slightly creamy then and she was PRETTY!!! She is now white, as in Michael Jackson white. Well, sometimes, red-white ![]() ![]() I now go out of my way to research the internet to find skin healing products because of all the tiger-stripes-like stretch marks and disgusting eczemas she developed from the over-use and over-combination of these creams and soaps. I even bought the ones I could find around e.g. Bio-oil, palmer's stretch mark remover and jergens shea butter skin healing cream. I suspect she is still using the products because they have a perculiar irritating smell and I still perceive it on her and she turns red just after a few minutes expose to direct sunlight. I have come out clear to her that I hate the idea of skin bleaching and outlined the dangers (including skin cancer, leaukamia, mercury poisoning, liver problems, stretch marks eczema, infertility, miscarriages and still births). My major concern is her health and our future when it comes to begin our own family but she is completely clueless. What else can I do to help her? It has obviously become a psychologically compulsive need for her. I know a lot of people are going through similar struggles with cream use and over-use. Its possible people indulge in such for greater acceptance by society. Truth is, Black is Beautiful. What is your take on this issue Guys? |
@finemocha you have strayed out of context here. Who cares if you like him or not. Get a life. @poster I wish u all the best with your relationships. Don't be hasty in decision making and continue to show love to you parents. |
