Detectives attached to the Monitoring Unit of the Imo State police command have arrested two General Overseers (GO) for alleged gunrunning. The suspects, Clifford Nmenabu, founder, God Covenant of Christ the King Sabbath Missionary and Festus Daniel Igwe of Zion House of Prayer Sabbath Missionary were alleged to have procured five AK47 rifles for use during the forthcoming general elections. Speaking on how the suspects were busted, the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali told Saturday Sun that the command acted on a tip-off which indicated that the suspects had acquired some firearms. According to him: “On February 13, 2015, policemen led by the officer in charge of the Monitoring Unit, Superintendent of Police, Linus Nwaiwu stormed their churches in Oru East Local Government Area, arrested and recovered all the guns.” CP Ali explained that in the course of investigation, it was discovered that the clerics were contracted by one Mr K. Nnamdi who they claim is based in London. “The two clerics were given an advance cash of N300,000 for 10 pieces of AK 47 rifles and to be given a cash balance of N1.2million as soon as they deliver. The suspects were nabbed when they were about to hand over the five AK47 rifles to a group of persons who claim to be representing Biafra in the church premises of Pastor Igwe.” The police boss also said that his command has declared Nnamdi wanted and would charge the suspects to court at the end of the investigation. One of the suspects, Pastor Nmenabu, 67, said that apart from his ministry, he is dealing in arms. “I am the General Overseer of God Covenant of Christ the King Sabbath Missionary. I have been in the ministry for over 35 years. I am also into buying and selling of arms and ammunition. I was listening to Radio Biafra London when the broadcaster, who introduced himself as Nnamdi, gave out a number through which he can be reached. I called him and he explained that he is the coordinator of the popular Biafra group. “I told him who I am and what I can do for the group. He gave me the contract and I decided to ask my fellow priest, Igwe who has contacts. He offered to pay N1.2 million for 10 AK47 rifles. He gave us N300, 000 as a deposit. We were waiting for the balance when policemen stormed my house and arrested us”, he confessed. The second suspect, High Priest Festus Igwe, 63, said that he is willing to assist the police to track down Nnamdi who is currently on the run. “I am the GO of the Zion House of Prayers Sabbath Mission. I was in the church, when Pastor Nmenabu contacted me that there is a good business on ground. I rushed to his church and gave me the details. Luckily, I still had contact with some arms dealers in Imo state. He also introduced me to Nnamdi who gave us an advance fee of N300,000. “We had delivered the five AK47 rifles and was waiting for Nnamdi to bring the balance when the police arrived. I am very sorry. I am ready to assist the police to track down Nnamdi”, he stated.

It has been observed times without number seeing Lagos people sweating and frowning unnecessarily. Each time I go out without a car I sweat as well within a five minutes walk and I begin to feel uncomfortable. These days I prefer to stay indoor than seeing frowning and sweating people. Could it be as a result of congestion, weather or what? |

The 30 Year-Old Nigerian Mobile Phone Entrepreneur Who Is Challenging Apple In Africa Michael Akindele, a 30 year-old Nigerian, is a director and a co-founder of SOLO Phone, an experience-driven digital content and smartphone company focused on delivering the best content and services on the mobile platform to African consumers. SOLO Phone, which was established in Nigeria in 2012, is an experience-driven mobile device manufacturer which aims to provide the best content and services to the African consumer at an affordable price. The company manufactures smartphones priced at $150, bundled with free music of up to 20 million songs licensed from Sony, Universal and Warner. SOLO also recently launched a Video-On-Demand App available to all Android devices in Nigeria which offers the latest Nollywood and Hollywood movies from global movie studios. I recently had a chat with Akindele where he recounted his entrepreneurial journey and explained why he feels SOLO phones will give other smartphones a run for their money. ........................ While developing The Apprentice Africa, I gained hands on experience on producing TV content for the African market. I recognized the gaps and immediately started developing original content inspired by African culture, music and folklore. I recognized the media market was populated by an influx of content from Western markets with little commercial opportunities left for local content producers. We successfully produced a pilot for an original 3-D animated series titled The O Twins. However,we quickly learned the market for content distribution was very shallow. Outside of the cable TV market there is little to no room left for original content production. The cable TV market is limited to affluent consumers who can afford televisions at home. However, the majority of African consumers are unable to afford this luxury. This presented a challenge I was willing to take on. I knew if someone was able to successfully solve that problem it would create tremendous opportunities not only for the distributors but also for creative professionals across the continent. Today Sub-Saharan Africa is among the world’s fastest growing mobile market in the world, and is the biggest after Asia. The introduction of affordable smartphones, specifically designed for the African market, has improved the market scenario. Mobile broadband connections are now anticipated to quadruple from its 2012 figure to reach 160 million in 2016. This uptrend reflects the gradual change in consumer habits, as they gain their first Internet experience through a mobile device. This is the future of content distribution and value added services. http://www.forbes.com/sites/mfonobongnsehe/2015/03/02/the-30-year-old-nigerian-mobile-phone-entrepreneur-who-is-challenging-apple-in-africa/

In pursuit of its resolve to ease travel within the metropolis, the Lagos State government in conjunction with LAGBUS Asset Management Limited, one of the operators of the Bus Rapid Transport, on Tuesday launched 100 air-conditioned, WIFI Internet-enabled buses. The new buses, which are called Metro Bus, and are expected to ply the Sango-Oshodi, Obalende- Ikorodu, and Island –Epe routes, will hit the road soon. The buses are expected to be increased to 1800 servicing 47 routes within the metropolis and are aimed to provide comfort and safety as well as reduce time spent commuting. LAGBUS has also introduced innovations such as the ability of commuters to check the arrival time of the bus by sending sms to a specialised number. “There would be security camera on board to ensure safety of passengers. The live feeds from the cameras will be made available to security agencies to be able to track any mishap. Customers can also use WIFI on the buses as well as enjoy videos and music on the go”, said Niyi Oguntoyinbo, the managing Director of Metro Bus. The buses are expected to provide 1,500 direct jobs and 5,000 other jobs for agents selling the preloaded cards. Speaking at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority Yard, Oshodi, the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, said the provision of the buses is in line with the multimodal transport system, which include road rail and water, driven by the private sector. “Government did not own the BRT buses; it was private sector that owned them. Our job was to build the roads, the bus shelters to maintain and manage them while they ran their buses but that environment at the time they were borrowing money at One Dollar at 118 Naira and interest rate at 10 per cent has changed completely,” he said. “They agreed and bought the first set of buses. They took loans, paid off the loans, recapitalized but again the environment in which they invested then has changed substantially.” The buses are a welcome development as it would help ease pressure on the overused and mostly rickety BRT buses. who has boarded any of these buses yet? http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/177055-lagos-launches-100-air-conditioned-internet-enabled-buses.html

Seeking your thoughts on how good Sheyman is as a producer (leaving out his musical career). Sincerely speaking I personally have lost count of the hit songs produced by this talent but really surprised he is not rated high as the likes of Don jazzy, Legendary Beatz e.t.c Almost all the hits songs played in the clubs, bars, spots these days would have sonmething like "sheyman mix". How good is Sheyman as a producer and list the tracks you love him produced?
