Well I had my interview in lagos on the 7th and all thanks to God,I got my visa also.
My interview lasted for just 2mins 30sec and basically,I would say,God is faithful.
Pls listen house my observations include:
1.Look str8 into their eyes and pay rapt attenstion
2.Make sure the 1st 2 sentences u make hits the question before u can further explain if necessary.
3.Please without being biased,don't apply to community schools in the usa,u would harly get a visa.in ma presence,more than 10 students were rejected.
4.Pray well.
5.Ansa ur ques confidently,dat will attract the VO's attention.
In addition,please dress smart.
Oh! Almost forgot.
Pls don't ever get nervous,it's just like u wana write an exam,whether u get nervous or not,u will still write the exam,so why get nervous in the 1st place?
I would also like to find out from the gurus in the oil and gas field,
I got 2 admissions,texas A n M-kingsville to study chemical and natural gas engineering and university of southern california to study petroleum engineering.
Now as an average texas total fees-21k wit som scholarship given to me
California is abou 65k ...
Which should I take,given a consideration to the future

Was around d embassy throughout but i later enter around 9:50. I queued Fø̲̣̣я̅ over 2 hours before we were ushered in 2 d embassy. A lot of hurdles as I have 2 g̲̅ø̲̣̣̥ back outside twice before entering d main building. Despite all these, I decided not 2 D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ nervous. I sha later enter and waited Fø̲̣̣я̅ anoda 1 hour plus before I was called 4 biometrics. Come D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ wait 4 M̶̲̥̅Ɣ interview after that. I D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ try reason dose windows †̥ know abt d VOs. Window 1 guy D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ try reason a lot and give anybody wey fit reason wit A̶̲̥̅♏, nobody 4 window 2 and 3, window 4 guy D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ give visa if You sabi wetin Ʊ wan g̲̅ø̲̣̣̥ do 4 US wella, window 5 a black american lady D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ unpredicable, 6 ₪ǻ wr dem D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ do biometrics and window 7 wc initially M̶̲̥̅ƺ I think say ₪ǻ d dreadest VO coz he too D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ ask question, check almost all doc and yet not too good in giving visa. I jst D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ pray make I •̸№ fall 4 d̶̲̥̅̊i̶̲̥̅̊$ man hand ₪ǻ him I see M̶̲̥̅Ɣ guy King_001 being called by d̶̲̥̅̊i̶̲̥̅̊$ man. As I sit down D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ watch d interview, I saw dat M̶̲̥̅Ɣ guy self don D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ over loaded and prepare 4 d interview coz he just D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ flow ωΐт̃ђ the guy wit gesticulations..infact I D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ envy him dat time coz I knew 4 sure he Ȋ̝̊̅§ gonna get it. He was later handed d green ticket and I still D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣ wait 4 M̶̲̥̅Ɣ turn. 30 mins after, window 1 guy show M̶̲̥̅Ɣ number. I walked 2 him and it goes thus

Me: how are Ʊ doing
VO: fine ( I quickly passd M̶̲̥̅Ɣ docs b4 he asked 4 it)

VO: Good morning can i have you documents?
Me: I handed them over to him
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: For undergraduate studies
VO: Undergraduate studies huh
Me: Yes
VO: What school did you apply to?
ME: XYZ UNIVERSITY
VO: You say you are going for Undergraduate studies?
Me: Yes. I have a three year degree from xyz university, i had applied for postgraduate studies but I was advised by the school to transfer my credit to undergraduate and top up to a four year degree before moving on to masters studies.
VO: What course are you going for?
Me: Biomedical science
VO: Tell me about it
Me: The course is designed to give the student a very good foundation in the biology of the body amongst other things, it also has and undergraduate research program that allows me to participate in a research lab of my choice
Vo: Typing quickly
Me: Praying inwardly
Vo: Tore the green ticket, held it and asked "Tell me about you three year program"
Me: I studied biotechnology, it gave me a very good understanding of the application of living things to ethical and social purposes. and so on
Vo: OK, we are going to issue. Pick up you visa on Thursday.

Let me just point out that even if you are on the older side you can go for undergrad studies if you can explain what you have been doing. Also, you do not have to wait for the VO to ask you some specific questions in order to answer, If you feel the need to thoroughly explain please do so. Another important thing, just spake clean and correct English in you usual accent no need to start forming accent for the white VOs they live in Nigeria, they know how Nigerians talk. And most importantly, PRAY! and have FAITH! I was scared cos my i 20 had said my course duration was 4 years but i knew my course duration was much lass since i was only going upgrade my undergrad and move to Masters so i wrote the correct length of studies in my ds 160 form. I prayed to God that the VO would be blind to this irregularity and God answered. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this thread. Best of luck to everyone that is yet to go for the interview

Dat bolded part is possibly the cause of his denial coz VO asked this to be sure if he really qualify 2 gain addmission into his own country. In his mind he will think like 'so if u are nt even qualify in ur own country, y will u go 2 d US? Dats y u've nt gain admissn for long' and u've being doing is nt convincing enough... do you understand my view?

Good Answers: My elder brother / Nobody [whatever is true]. You should not mention cousins or uncles. Only mention direct relations, eg, Parents, Siblings, Spouse, as per the visa questionnaire.
Bad Answer: My second cousin and his friend live in USA.


5. What are your future plans?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to your own country.
Good Answer: Work in my country as….
Bad Answers: Work in USA/ I have not thought. [You are perhaps lying, but truth will lead to certain rejection - Sorry, this is how the system is designed]
Above is the only example where we advise to tell what is expected answer, not necessarily the truth. VO is legally bound to reject the visa if you say I want to work in the USA. They know that most people do not come back.


6. Who is paying for your education?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to see if you can afford the education, else you will work illegally and stick around in USA.
Good Answesrs: Got a RA/ My father will pay out of his savings.
Bad Answers: Bank Loan/Sell property. Any fraud answer.


7. What is your area of research?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your preparedness and focus on studies.
Good Answer: True and simple short answer.
Bad Answers: Vauge answer, Not decided yet, too generic answer, example, I want to do research in Electrical Engineering.


8. Show me your degree certificate?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your authenticity. They sometimes look at the degree across the light, in a way some people check the authenticity of a currency note/bill.
Good Answer: Just show with a smile, make eye contact, no need to talk. Provisional degree is acceptable.
Bad Answers: No degree or even provisional/temporary one. Degree in a non-English language, unless that is very common in your country.


9. Why do you want to go to USA?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to USA.
Good Answers: Top universities in the world, exposure to current developments and research. Opportunity to experience the diverse culture alongwith top quality education.
Bad Answers: Going to USA is a childhood dream. US is a great country, I like USA a lot. I love US Dollars.


10. How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to your own country.
Good Answer: True answer. Never hide existence of siblings wheter they live in your own country or USA.
Bad Answer: Any false answer.

I was not praying for the VO because he was spending a lot of time with applicants and he rejected a lot of applicants.
VO: the sighed me as I was walking across to him. Good morning, pass me your documents pls.
ME: good morning sir, here they are
VO: ok can you bring up your case...
ME: I was like na which one be bring up your case again. I asked him to repeat himself and he said it again. So I got it that he want me to tell him what I am here for. Na so I start by saying, I am going to study Masters in Public Administration at ..... University, then defined Public Administration as a disciplined which broadly deals with good governance, human relations and the society at large and also focuses on the implementation of government policies, programmes and activities for the betterment of the citizens. I choose to study masters in PA because I have a keen interest in good governance in Nigeria.
V0: ok, why this school?
ME: because the university offers excellence career preparation in public administration which a real world learning experience.
VO: Have u travel out of Nigeria before?
ME: no, there has not been a need to.
VO: ok, are u married?
ME: No.
VO: where do u work?
ME: I told him.
VO: who is paying for your fees.
ME: my dad.
VO: what does not dad do?
ME: he is a building contractor and a estate developer.
VO: did you write the GRE?
ME: No, the university does not require it for admission into this programme.
VO: I'm sorry I can not issue you the visa at this time....bla bla

Lesson: I know surely that I was refused on the grounds of GRE. Its painful tho, because the V0 was just looking at me and typing seriously and me maintained eye contacts all through.
Advice: please everyone going as a graduate student should endeavour to write either the GRE or GMAT, even if your school does not require it for admission purpose, like mine did not and plus that I had a $2000 partial scholarship, so I was thinking the GRE won't be an issue since its not part of the admission requirements.

At this point, I want to congratulate everyone who got their visas and those yet to go for their interview, I beg make una no dey entertain unnecessary fear, that interview is not as difficult as it has been projected. Its basically a conversation between 2 people ( you and the VO). Be yourself.

Here is my story and I need to know what ‎​Ɣøû think and advice
I had my interview this М̣̣̥̇̊Ό̲̣̣̣̥Я̩̥̊И̣̣̣̥Ȋ̝̊̅̄И̣̣̣̥G̲̣̣̣̥ at the lagos embassy was interviewed by window 1 a white guy. Interview lasted like 6-7mins asked questions which I answered then he collected my passport, tore the pickup slip and gave M̶̲̥̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ a white form. Told M̶̲̥̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ to pick up my visa on friday and was advicing M̶̲̥̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ to travel early. When I was J̲̣̣̣U̶̲̥̅̊§τ̲̅ abt to leave I think something came up on his screen and he said he might need to collect the form,return my passport held on to my DS-160 and gave M̶̲̥̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ the GREEN PICKUP ticket. Told M̶̲̥̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ dia is a check they still need to run that its most probably nothing bt they have to D̶̲̥̅̊o it.that I should mail my school and inform them I might report late.he said D̶̲̥̅̊ε̲̣̣̣̥γ̲̣̣̥ will contact M̶̲̥̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ via email or phone that they have to carry out additional administrative check/processing
My questions are:
Has anyone held of this before?
What D̶̲̥̅̊o u think might be the Ish?
How long will I have to wait for this process?
What are my chances?

dr_dolittle: Do not be afraid brov. You will get yours too irrespective of the VO interviewing you. Just be composed, know what you are going for, get your docs complete and pray to God for his favour. Trust me...the visa is all yours.

walex57: Guy...i'm also a graduate of unilorin and i went for my interview some weeks ago...we'll there's nothing wrong with your profile here and i can say you're good to go...just have your confidence...i also got admission into a UK school and another institution in Nigeria and i must tell you it was a strong point 'cos it shows you're a serious student and not desperate...if asked why you chose CCSU just tell the VO that was the school that offered you admission in the area of your interest...know your area of interest and about the school and you're good to go...your mum being your sponsor is also a great point on your side...don't bother about the sevis receipt, they understand that nigerians cannot pay from here...the address on mine was cotonou cos that was where i paid...if asked how many universities you appled to...tell the VO that CCSU, the two schools in UK and OAU in ife...that'll do...there's no need to panic or lie ok...the VO may not even to see a single document...if you can write to the school to get you a waiver letter on your GRE, please do and if you cannot...just go with your confidence...wish you all the best and come share your testimony also...cheers
